Bubonic plague has had a major impact on the history of the world. Caused by the bacterium,
Yersinia pestis, and transmitted by fleas often found on rats, bubonic plague has killed over 50
million people over the centuries. Burrowing rodent populations across the world keep the disease
present in the world today. Outbreaks, though often small, still occur in many places. The use of
antibiotics and increased scientific knowledge first gained in the 1890s have reduced the
destruction of plague outbreaks. In Medieval times, with the unknowing help of humans, bubonic

Bike and Bunk Hostel of West Newton, a quiet place to stay and rest while biking on the Greater
Allegheny Passage. Our hostel features a group bunking room, a room with sinks, showers and

At the age of 45, Sandra Bullock won an Oscar award for the movie The Blind side in the year
2010. Sandra plays the role of Leigh Anne Tuohy, her character s heart is pure of kindness as she
took in Michael Oher, who she knew from the start was full of potential. But due to his skin
color, no one thought to believe it. She plays a middle class, average american mom who
believed in equality and acceptance. As she had a family of her own, she never failed to leave
Michael out of the picture. Her character is very strong and independent, and in my opinion kind
of stubborn but for a good cause. As many doubted Michael, Leigh used the kindness of her heart
to make sure Michael had a clear road to success, since his own birth mom wasn t capable of
doing it herself. This movie was based on a true story which I find astonishing and inspiring.
What filled me with anger though is just seeing how people were discriminated, and how many
did not stand up to be allies. But Leigh really opened up that passage way to equality that most
African American s never really experienced. She put out a clear message that not all white people
are cruel and racist. Fun fact: The real Leigh Anne Tuohydid an interview talking about her
experience and how it really encouraged many to stand up for what s right, and even the little
spontaneous moments can really impact someone s life, in a way you may not understand.
It s mindboggling, the 54 year old mother of three says. We realize we do have a mission. We
have the opportunity to change lives. If that sounds narcissistic, screw it. Racism is alive and
well in this country; we have to learn how to love someone who doesn t look like us. (Tuohy,
2015) She speaks with honesty and confidence, yet many still disagree with equality. Why hate
on someone for the stupidest excuses. Because of skin? Eyes? Hair? People can t help the way
they look. But they can help the way they are treated. If you don t like the way someone is being
treated, be like Leigh Tuohy and stand up. Stop sitting on your butts and speak up. Sandra Bullock
