The team presented on the problem of increasing technology dependence among younger generations, which can lead to more isolated lifestyles. They provided two scenarios where people's routines became centered around their phones and technology. In the first, a man stopped going to his favorite restaurant because it lacked wifi. In the second, a woman got lost after her phone died while out with friends. The team proposed an app called "Cloud Nine" that would analyze user data to suggest new experiences tailored to their interests, in order to encourage breaking routines and experiencing more of life.

2. Problem:
• Our society is becoming severely technology
dependent and arguably less social, resulting in
an increasingly introverted generation that plans
and builds a routine around that dependency.
• Scope: Primarily among the working class and
younger population (ages 15 – 45, possibly older)
– Social Media, Productivity, News
• We chose this problem because we’re concerned
that people are not taking full advantage of life
and opportunities, and are limiting themselves to
a less satisfying life style.

3. Scenario 1
• Jack gets a new smart phone. He becomes aware that
wifi is extremely important for his data plan, so he
decides to use wifi whenever he has the chance. This
search for wifi leads Jack to routinely have lunch at
Starbucks everyday. After a few weeks, Jack realizes he
hasn’t had BBQ pork for lunch since he got his phone,
because the Pork Palace didn’t have wifi. He decides to
go there and realizes that the place has shut down.
Now Jack wishes he would’ve gone before it closed.
• Jack’s routine resulted in Jack excluding any place that
didn’t have wifi, including his favorite restaurant. A
true restaurant wouldn’t close because one customer
changed his routine, but if a large mass decided that
they value wifi over pork, then you can understand the
realness of this possibility.

4. Scenario 2
• Jasmine has plans to go out with her friends. They plan
to meet at a friends house, and then go bar hopping.
None of them know the area well so she uses her
phone for directions. After a while, jasmine’s phone
dies as they instagram endless pics and tweet. Towards
the end of the night, Jasmine realizes she’s separated
from her friends and is now lost. Desperate for a ride
and communication, Jasmine asks Sketchy Joe for help.
Luckily Sketchy Joe is a boy scout is promises to take
her home safely (scout’s honor).
• This scenario is a bit more practical and displays the
dangers of being tech dependent. Jasmine built a
routine around her technology, assuming that her
phone would be charged, and when it wasn’t, Jasmine
had to take risks that could’ve ended up differently.

5. Scenario Solutions
• If Jack had an app that understood his love for
pork and wifi, then that app would’ve told him
that there was a restaurant across town that
has both, and ultimately would’ve satisfied
Jack best.
• If Jasmine had an app that understood her
unfamiliarity in that area and her lack of
battery, it could’ve gave her a list of suggested
places she could buy a charger/charge her
phone.

6. Research
• Researched most effective way to reach out to users – Decided
on apps (FlurryBlog)
• Researched on how where data should be derived from – Based
on where and how users spend their time and money
(nielson.com)

7. Insight
• Decided that the best method should be…
– To create an app that is engineered to feel like a
form of social media, but also provide assistance
like a productivity app (i.e. alarm clock)
– This would appeal to most people, and give users
an experience that is enjoyable, satisfying, and
fluid.

8. Cloud Nine
• An app that utilizes cloud capabilities to gather
and host collective information on a specific
individual (i.e. favorite music, most used apps,
liked pages on facebook, etc.)
• Uses GPS data to determine where users spend
there time, and based off that data determines
new locations or events where users might be
interested in spending their time.
• Gathers data from shopping apps or linked
accounts to understand how a users spend their
money, and determines new items or areas
where a user might be interested in spending
their money.

9. Cloud Nine Goal
• Utilizes user info and then offers users
opportunities that are made specifically towards
their personal interests, routines, and habits.
• An app that understands and analyzes your digital
footprint, to provide you with real world options,
in an attempt to break the routine and
monotonous feeling of everyday life.
• Provided in a Social Media format that allows
users to endorse locations, articles, items, music,
etc. that shows off their own personal “cloud
nine”, without violating user privacy.
