Charles Rennie Mackintosh Charles Rennie Mackintosh has been called Scotland s greatest
architect and designer, in addition to being celebrated as one of the most prominent and influential
figures in modern design and the art Nouveau period. Mackintosh was an architect, furniture
designer, water colorist and ceramicist, and within his wide range of work is a strong element of
refined elegance, inspired by nature and blurring the lines between art, craft and design. According
to Spencer (2005), Mackintosh sees nature as a spiritual, creative force and one which is essential to
human development (p.146), working within this philosophy, Mackintosh inspired ... Show more

During his time at the Glasgow School of Art, Mackintosh was influenced by the philosophies of
Thomas Smith, his architecture professor, Alexander McGibbon, an established draughtsman,
and the schools new director, Francis Newberry, an Englishman who accepted the post a year
into Mackintosh s education. Newberry instituted a new curriculum that had a foundation based
on drawing and encouraged students to express their creativity freely. This approach was based
on the idea that drawing is a direct observation of nature, a representation of apparent reality
rather than a dissected analysis of structure. According to Wilhide (1995), Newberry s stated aim
was to practically supply that which Glasgow at present needs namely a race of designers for her
own creation (p.16). This idea struck a chord with Mackintosh as his own personal beliefs ran
parallel with this teaching approach and he thrived within the school throughout the rest of his
education, winning several prizes for many of his designs. At the age of twenty one Mackintosh
was invited to join the practice of Honeyman and Keppie as a junior draughtsman where he would
later become partner. In 1891, Mackintosh took a leave of absence from Honeyman and Keppie to

Comparing Communism And A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Marxism was founded on the principle of there being two sides to everything in life. From a
socioeconomic standpoint, the masses were categorized into two main categories, the bourgeoisie,
the wealthy business owners, and the proletariat, the poor workers. Moreover, to those whom were
in positions of power, there were those to whom were weak. To truly understand this concept, one
must look back to the early nineteen hundreds, the Russian Revolution, and the subsequent
formation of the Soviet Union.
Karl Marx believed that the bourgeoisie exploited the proletariats in this new found industrial age.
The proletariat masses lived in poverty, while the bourgeoisie lived lavishly, feeding off the labour
intensive work and money made by their workers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their money and power made many feel invincible, superior to the middle and lower class
workers. Without the use of reason or compassion, they took more and more to maintain their
perpetual high. Similarly, A Pair of Silk Stockings s protagonist Mrs. Sommers experienced this
phenomenon during her day of extravagance. The freedom of having fifteen dollars gave her a
feeling of importance, a sense of power, which she uses to indulge herself, not thinking about her
family. She made purchases without consequence and built herself up to create the illusion of
importance, and a sense of belonging with members of the upper class.
As a young woman, Mrs. Sommers frequently catered to her every whim, but this changed when
she got married. She took on the role of homemaker and mother, fulfilling everyone else s wishes
and needs. Her fifteen dollars served as a catalyst in reawakening her own desires. Remembering
how sweet the taste of wealth was compared to her present, impoverished, life, she becomes sad,
wishing she can stay wealthy forever.
Much like the Bourgeoisie, the many purchases made by Mrs. Sommers perpetuated the illusion of
economic stability in her community, but once her money ran out, the illusion faded. This solidifies
the idea that a taste of wealth is a taste of power, as fifteen dollars transformed the protagonist of
this narrative from proletariat to possessing the illusion and tendencies of the

P Vulgaris Lab Report
After precisely conducting the experiment and tabulating the results, data for Paraquat toxicity
upon P. vulgaris plants can be interpreted over several different parameters. The parameters by
which Paraquat toxicity was examined within this experiment involve visual observations, x ray
diffraction, chlorophyll concentrations, protein concentrations, and lastly malondialdehyde (MDA)
concentrations on a per mg of protein basis. As stated before Paraquat is very widely used
herbicide known to produce superoxide anions leading to chloroplast membrane damage and
ultimately a variety of adverse effects upon the host organism, in this case P. vulgaris (Chia et al.,
1982). The initial signs of Paraquat toxicity were immensely noticeable... Show more content on

vulgaris plants, via the formation of a standard curve prepared using varying concentrations of
bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution. Following absorbance readings of the various BSA
solutions, they were plotted against their concentrations providing an indirect measure for
determining protein concentrations of the plant samples within the assay tubes, and through further
calculations the sample protein concentration. The mean protein concentration for the control group
was calculated to be 3.34 В± 1.30 mg/mL, while the mean treated group concentration was 2.01 В±
1.26 mg/mL. These results similarly like the chlorophyll results correlate with the literature articles,
as a reduced protein content within the Paraquat treated plants can be expected to some extent
(Chia et al., 1981). This reduction in protein concentration is the result of those superoxide anions
produced by Paraquat, disrupting the chloroplast membranes and allowing for intracellular
components including some proteins to leak out, hence the decrease in protein concentration in
comparison to the non treated plants (Qian et al., 2009). A slight outlier may exist within the
treated groups protein concentrations as one of the groups provided a negative value for protein
concentration which is not valid, but even after exclusion of that data value, results are still
supportive of the expected outcome. Though these results support the claim of Paraquat toxicity
causing membrane deterioration and leakiness, protein concentration values are rather more
purposeful when used to analyze malondialdehyde (MDA) values on per mg of protein

Symbolism In Big Two Hearted River By Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway became one of the most notorious writers in the 20th century, likely due to
his abnormal style of writing. Hemingway in his writing introduced the new concept of Iceberg
Theory which gives the story a implicit meaning made by the author that should be further
inferred by the reader. In order to achieve this style Hemingway throughout his works used
objects and movements by characters to symbolize emotion, actions and other deeper objects.
Many of Hemingway s symbols reoccur among different stories; one of his most recurring
symbols is a train/tracks which is used in following Big Two Hearted River , Canary ,and Hills
like White Elephants . In the first story Big Two Hearted River the train makes an appearance near

Arabian Nights Argumentative Essay
The Arabian Nights is renowned for its multiple uses of enframed narratives. The layering of
stories adds new meaning to the various tales of The Arabian Nights by bringing up new
questions. In every story one reads, one finds themselves asking why Shahrazad would tell such a
story, what kind of message is this tale giving Shahriar, and why bother telling another story
within an already enframed story. However, The Arabian Nights is not alone in its use of the
enframed story. Works inspired by The Arabian Nights use their own enframing devices in order to
alter how one perceives and understands the stories these offshoots have taken from The Arabian
Nights. The adaptations this paper will look at include Disney s Aladdin film, Pasolini s Arabian...

The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with
similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The
story starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian
Nights 1: 10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a
series of events, three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third
of the merchant s punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons
between these travelers right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler
tells their story, one cannot help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed
romance which is dealt with in some other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party
into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to
romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison about the nature of conflict resolution. In
particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to help Shahriar understand there are a
variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve murdering virgins (The Arabian
Nights 1: 3 10). By using enframed stories as a means of comparison, The Arabian Nights adds
extra depth and meaning to stories in light of the outer narrative and the surrounding stories in
order to produce a far more complex understanding of any one theme or

The Worst Moment Of My Life
The Scariest Moment of My Life I have this fear. It causes my legs to shake. I start to feel dizzy.
And I blab to anyone who is nearby. As thoughts of certain death run through my mind, the world
appears a precious, treasured place. I imagine my own funeral, then shrink back at the
implications of where my thoughts are taking me. I am terrified of deep waters. Of course, it s
not really a fear of the water itself. Rather, it is the feeling I get in the water, the floor of the ocean
or poolbelow me untouchable and no firm grasp of anything surrounding me. My sense of
security is screamingly absent. There are no lifeguards , not as if they ll ease the fear. I can rely
only on my own self assurance that I will live or lack thereof. The creation of my fear happened
many years ago. I somehow found myself upside down underwater, while trying to have a good
time. Most of my family had come along on a week long trip to Dallas , a suburban, sweltering
city in Texas. In the unbearable heat, my mom, aunt, my two cousins and I went to a large
public pool. All around the pool and down the sidewalk a multitude of people were sitting
around enjoying the heat as if they were at the beach sitting in the sand. A few of the members
of my family went first into the cold deep water of the pool. After they left, i was left with only
my mom undoubtedly worried for my safety, warned me about the rules of the pool and that the
sprinkler was safer for a little five year old

Heritable Race Based Slavery And Indentured Servitude Essay
1.Heritable Race Based Slavery Indentured Servitude:
a.Heritable Race Based Slavery:
Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured
servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they
would have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the
condition of the mother. The children of a slave mother are born into slavery. They are born into
slavery and they are going to be a slave because their mother is. It used to be following in the
condition of the father, but what father is a slave? It was rare, especially if you have a mulatto
child. The father would be white. So, to avoid having all these free black children, who should be
slaves ( Follow The Money ) they used the condition of the mother. The mother is always a slave,
so therefore, they make money and get more slaves out of the deal. You have a generation to
generation guaranteed slave, what more could you want?
b.Indentured Slavery:
Indentured Servitude is where you can say it all started. Indentured Servitude was used for 4 7
years to pay off a debt. It could be extended, but there was always a promise that it would end
(you would gain freedom) and that you would get land when it was over and settled with.
Indentured Servitude also had blacks and whites together. They were not separated like they were
with slavery, which was strictly blacks. Indentured Servitude was not passed

Momma Sands Book Report
This book is about a family that lives in Flint, Michigan that traveled to Birmingham, Alabama
where Mrs. Watson grew up. Byron is going to have to stay with her for the whole summer or
until he learns to behave. Which, let s face it, could be indefinitely. Grandma Sands is strict, and
Byron is going to have to leave his culprit, Buphead, behind, so he s not exactly happy about this

Then the family meets Grandma Sands new boyfriend, which Mrs. Watson isn t so pleased
about that because she didn t know. There is a lot of segregation in the south. In the north, not

Are there any advantages to having more than one independent variable in an experimental design?
If so, what are they? What about more than one dependent variable?
Having more than one independent variable could be very beneficial with an experimental

work out with one step? What if the original variable exclude(s) one process within the

Which type of data do you think might be the easiest to collect? Hardest? Why?
Quantitative data would be easiest to collect. I feel this as so, because quantitative data can be
written down and/or express with numbers. Quantitative data is something that you can actually see
or handle. Quantitative data is also easily observed and/or measured. Quantitative data is define.
Now, on the other hand qualitative data is hardest as it can be difficult to measure. Qualitative data
formulates an approximation of something or its characteristics. Qualitative data cannot be seen.
You may see some aspects of it, but it is not definable like the quantitative data. Qualitative data
outlines description without facts.

Analysis of the Decision
Parker s budgeting decision is a good example of an individual acting with bounded rationality. This
term was introduced by Simon in 1957 (as cited in Tolbert Hall, 2008) to argue that normative
models of decision making, which assume fully rational and objective judgement (Teale, Dispenza,
Flynn Currie, 2003), are unrealistic because human rationality is limited. Parker s judgement may
have seemed rational to him, but it was not rational for the organisation, a subtle distinction about
rationality made by Storing (as cited in Tolbert Hall, 2008). Parker s judgement was also not
rational in that he did not have all available knowledge and awareness of risk, which are the
conditions of normative models (Teale et al, 2003) and the official theory of management
(Anthony, as cited in Teale et al, 2003, p. 14). For example, Parker did not know about the
variations in the terrain when he made his decision, and he also assumed that the assistant workers
could work at the same physical rate that he could. Both of these limitations were factors resulting
in a risk to on time task completion.

I ve always had a particular fondness for movies that made me think. I love long, drawn out
movie scripts that include lots of plot twists, where the movies intent and message is not always
clear right up front. This particular reason is why I chose to evaluate the movie American
Hustle. I really enjoy watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the
actors that were cast in this production. The movie, American Hustle, is a comedy drama that is
loosely based on the real life FBI sting, called ABSCAM, that took place in the late 1970 s and
early 1980 s. The movie centers around two con artist named Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian
Bale, and Sydney Prosser, played by Amy Adams,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My favorites were Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The transformation that
Bale put himself through in order to play this role was incredible. He has a history of gaining
and losing weight for various roles but I had never actually seen this for myself until I watched
this movie. Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and
changed his posture by slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a
herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse
herself into any character, bring them to life, and still have pieces of her own personality shine
through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this movie was practically nonexistent, he still
made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a legendary mob boss and casino owner
named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well because he has this serious
demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is sitting down at a pool
table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley Coopers character, and
he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. Coopers character, Richie DiMaso, informs Victor
Tellegio that the Sheikh only speaks Arabic and, unbeknownst to anyone else at the

Moore Vs Hlobo
This essay will explore the contrasts and similarities that can be taken from two drawings. Henry
Moore s, Standing figures of 1940 and Nicholas Hlobo s, Macaleni Iintozomlambo of 2010. It will
discuss the comparisons that can be made about the colour schemes, composition and subject matter
of the pieces. This will also include an evaluation of how the time scales and influences of the
period have affected the final outcomes of the two artists. The two pieces actually share many more
similarities than first hits the eye after deconstructing all of the components listed.
Henry Moore is typically renowned for the many sculptures mused by the human form, typically
the female form. He began his artistic venture in 1919 where he attended Leeds School of art,
here he met Barbra Hepworth and was inspired greatly by her. He then received many
scholarships leading to the opportunity to travel around the world, it was early Mexican and
Aztec that mostly inspired his work. His first commissioned piece was in 1928 and named West
Wind. In order to create his pieces he did however create unfinished drawing plans of organic
compositions that he could imagine creating to a much larger scale. These were often many

Isolation Of Holden Caulfield
Imagine being a depressed teenager who just got expelled from boarding school, and on the
verge of a mental breakdown. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, follows the life of a
depressed six foot two and a half inch, partially gray haired, and woefully angular sixteen year
old Holden Caulfield. Recovering from a recent breakdown, Holden tells his story from a mental
institution in California. His older brother D.B. is a successful writer in Hollywood, and his
younger sister Phoebe is attending elementary school in New York City. At thirteen years of age,
Holden entered adulthood because his brother Allie died from leukemia. Instead of seeing

His loneliness arose because no one seemed to share his view of the world. His friends and
classmates did not experience what he went through after Allie died. Before being expelled,
Holden attended Pencey Prep, an upscale school in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. Holden talks to
his history teacher, Mr. Spencer, about getting expelled from Pencey Prep. The headmaster of
Pencey, Dr. Thurmer, claimed Holden wasn t playing the game of life. Dr. Thurmer gives
Holden advice that life is a game. Holden is referring to the game of life. Despite being from a
privileged New York family, Holden feels alienated, alone, and victimized, as if the world is
against him. Thus, he feels no need to follow the rules. Holden entered adulthood before his
peers. He identifies with those on the other side of the game, and views the wealthy kids at his
schools as a bunch of phonies. Their lives are simple and they do not have to endure pain. He
cannot connect with them because none of them experienced the pain he went through when Allie
died. None of them understand Holden. Life is only a game for the people on the winning side.

The Importance Of Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted experiments
on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under certain conditions. These studies
were conducted through replicating and standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in
through a controlled environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to
learn when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B. F.)
developed the core idea of the Operant ConditioningSkinner, which claims that operant
conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under threat (Sakagami, Lattal,
2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the operant conditioning especially when
Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the
problem solving abilities of these animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the
animals in a state of constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited
between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated strengths to the same.
Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to learn under the conditions presented as
was later proven by Skinner.
The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and how it may
result in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the individual may experience

Individual and Society in Virginia Woolf s Novel quot;mrs...
According to Viktors Ivbulis (1995: 23 29) in Modernist fiction a special attention is paid to an
individual who degrades because of the pressure from the society and is therefore shown as a
small part of the society being unable to do miracles. Moreover, the 20th century s fight for the
power makes the rights of an individual be dependent on the rights of the society. This individual
is not a personality anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. It is a simple
person, who is depressed by the highly technological world and the demands of the society and is
therefore lonesome and isolated. An individual cannot compete successfully for his place in the
society, as he does not even know his enemy. Therefore, he has to die... Show more content on

V. Ivbulis (23:1995) stresses that in Modernist fictionan individual in this technologically
developed world has become trivial. The world wide market of goods, the fake blaze of the mass
culture, the variety of the offers on TV and radio, and the developing power of all this over an
individual has made him small. Also in Mrs Dalloway Clarissa is of less importance than the
position she holds in the society. Everyone who comes to the party is interested only in the
luxuriance and the possibility to be at least for some time in the higher levels of the society. For
example, Ellie Henderson, who is a cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she would find
something to wear on and to be among those people from the higher levels of society: It was an
event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat just to see the lovely clothes. They go to this
party at Mrs Dalloway s to show off, to show themselves in a possibly richer way. They do not go
there to meet Mrs Dalloway. She is as if only a person to meet them at the entrance.
According to Viktors Ivbulis (23:1995) in Modernist fiction due to the fact that an individual is
subjected to the pressure of the society he degrades and is, therefore, shown as a very small part of
the society. He cannot do heroic deeds. In Virginia Woolfs novel Mrs

Phantom Limb Pain
Furthermore phantom limb pain is simply a sensation of pain. A patient experiences the pain in an
affected extremity that no longer exists (McCance Huether). Although nerve fibers have the
capability to regenerate this is a time consuming process that does not always yield a fully
functional nerve (Subedi Grossberg, 2011).
Nociceptors are free nerve endings in the afferent peripheral nervous system (PNS) that selectively
respond to different stimuli. The differences are related to the stimulus which they respond to and
the properties of the nerve fibers associated with them. There are three types A, B and C groups
based on their diameter. There are numerous types of nerve fibers that have nociceptors. These are

Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s...
ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a
manufacturer. This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition.
MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its
competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market.
Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost
leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and
drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are
the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when
buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is
that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type
of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works,
they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go
quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People

Classroom Management Reflection Paper
3. Reflection on theory in practice
3.1 Introduction
Teachers use a variety of preventative and corrective strategies in their classroom organisation.
These practices should be based on a teacher s pedagogical perspectives. While there are many
different practices, the physical layout of the classroom; expectations, rules and code of conduct;
logical consequences; and I messages will be the focus of this reflection.
3.2Classroom physical layout and resources
The physical layout of the classroom was aimed at cooperative learning. A method of organisation
that has the students participate in small groups (Lyons et al., 2014). Tables and chairs were
generally placed so that students could work in groups. Clustering tables is the best way ... Show

This system was based on a behavioural perspective, whereby expectations were set and
behavioural or academic compliance was rewarded. This method is most similar to the assertive
discipline outline by Lyons et al. (2014). The use of this token reinforcement system is
recommended for motivating disinterested students, encourage students with poor academic
outcomes, or to deal with a class with challenging behaviours (Woolfolk Margetts, 2013). In this
case, the token system may have been appropriate because it also functioned as social
reinforcement, which is consistent with cognitive behavioural theory (Lyons et al., 2014).
Whereby, students felt social pressure to conform to the expectations of the teacher and were
reminded by peers when they were not conforming.
The class code of conduct also reflects an assertive discipline approach with one behavioural
descrpitor stating, listen and follow instructions . However, unlike the code of conduct advocated
by Lyons et al. (2014), this code of conduct did not articulate a values statement and principles.
Instead, only behavioural descriptors were listed. Having the behavioural descriptors without the
principles and values statement detaches it from its purpose. Therefore, why students had to listen
and follow instructions was not clearly explained.
3.4Logical consequences
In the classroom, the teacher used logical consequences which are based on Goal Centered Theory.

Four Perfect Mate Traits
The four perfect mate traits
Everyone has their own idea of what the perfect mate is. Those who are ready to take
relationships seriously, think long and hard about the characteristics someone possesses before
they make commitments to them. Some may be looking for a spouse that will always make
them laugh, or someone who s a good listener. While both of those can be good traits to have, I
look at finding a spouse on a much deeper level. Here are the top four traits that are most
important to me. Although I am an open minded person and respectful of all views, my perfect
mate will have to have the same religious views as me. This is important to me, because I do take

When people first start dating, they have the spark , and always work extra hard to impress the

trying to do better, for their spouse but also for themselves. I want my mate and I to constantly
grow together and do our very best to be the best we can be. Lastly, as cheesy as it may sound, I
want him to be my hero. Yes, I said it, my hero. All of my life, I ve been very independent and
never the kind to ask for help. I want my mate to know me for the stubborn, hard headed woman
that I am, and swoop in and lend a hand whenever I need it without even being asked. He doesn t
have to be superman, he doesn t have to make lots of money, but I want him to care so much,
that he will stop at nothing to bring me happiness. The perfect mate for me isn t made up of
superficial qualities. I m just looking for qualities from the heart. As I said, marriage is teamwork,
so I will bring him as much happiness as he brings me. I firmly believe that our Christian values
that we ll share will be the most important part of our relationship together. When we both actively

Macwhirr s Use Of Figurative Language
The novella Typhoon by Joseph Conrad tells the story of a ship s captain, Macwhirr, and his
voyage across the East Asian sea. Macwhirr s incredibly literal, unimaginative nature is
juxtaposed with his second in command, Jukes, who uses figurative language. The juxtaposition
allows the reader to see how Macwhirr and Jukes react to the same problem: a typhoon. When
faced with a dangerous typhoon in the middle of the book, Macwhirr remains calm and reads
articles from his books on dealing with typhoons. He does not try to avoid the typhoon, much to the
displeasure of Jukes, who sees the typhoon as much more than just a bad storm. Jukes is terrified of
the typhoon and preoccupies himself with ensuring the chinamen, their cargo, are safe in their hold.
The novel suggests the both characters have flaws in their way of thinking, and their teamwork
together in the novel is what makes the ship survive. Conrad s use of figurative and literal language

Examples Of Eulogy In Coretta s Funeral
Coretta Scott King was an activist who had a major impact on those around her. For Coretta s
funeral, her sister, Maya Angelou wrote Coretta s eulogy. The eulogy first mentions Coretta s
passion as a peaceful activist who wanted to right the wrongs in the world. The eulogy progresses
by explaining her background as an African American woman who was born in a small town and
loved everyone and everything no matter their difference in this world. Maya then describes her
experiences of exchanging phone calls, letters, and flowers with Coretta because they were not
able to see each other frequently. The eulogy ends with Maya and Coretta agreeing that Peace and
justice should belong to all people, everywhere, all the time (Angelou, n.d., para.... Show more

She also used humor to put the audience at ease. First, Maya tells the audience that Coretta
loved her church, family, friends, and race. She also cared about the sexual orientation of others,
the condition of humans, and the struggles in the world (Angelou, n.d., para. 7). This appeals to
the audience s emotions because those topics are very controversial and cause many people to
end friendships, but not for Coretta. Maya also appeals to the audience when she talks about
sending flowers and cards because they rarely saw each other. This affected the audience because
many people in the audience know how that feels. Another way that Maya appeals to the
audience through pathos is using humor that will help the audience relax. First, Maya told the
audience that they would call each other girl because it was a black woman thing to do, she told
the audience that in their 70th decade they still said it (Angelou, n.d., para. 9). Maya also brings
humor into the argument when she told the audience that she would tell her sister jokes that were
not meant for the presence of anyone but the two of them (Angelou, n.d., para. 11). The reason
Maya used humor in her argument is simply the fact that it is hard to say no when you are
laughing. Using humor helped the audience to relax and be more understanding which made it
easier for Maya to offer her proposal that others need to follow in Coretta s

Juz Kitson
Juz Kitson is an Australian installation and sculpture ceramicist who primarily works with
porcelain. Kitson, however, also employs many other types of clay and materials which she
individually forms into larger installation pieces. With the uses of both traditional and contemporary
modes of moulding, glazing and coating, Kitson conveys the complexity of notions of being such
as life and death, beauty and the grotesque, the permanent and impermanent.
Kitson was born in Sydney in 1987 and attended the National Art School, Sydney. From there she
was offered a artist residency in China which further developed her curiosity in the art of ceramic
making and is now where she practices her art making; half her time is spent in Jingdezhen learning

Kitson usually begins by creating slip cast moulds to create multiples of shapes, using various
porcelains and clays. However Kitson favours Southern Ice porcelain due to its aesthetic
properties such as its white colour and translucency which often she leaves in its natural raw
state. Kitson then proceeds to paint, glaze and fire her ceramic pieces in communal kilns in
Jingdezhen, China. This is important for her creative process as it helps to connect her pieces to
their historical origin and also allows her to fire as much as possible due to the enormity of the
kilns. Kitson then uses the coating method of physical vapour disposition. This method was
created by NASA in 2010. Kitson prefers this new and highly technologically advanced practice
because it prevents the erosion of the clays and porcelain, and can use both organic and inorganic
coatings and is more environmentally friendly than most coating techniques. Once this is
complete, the ceramic pieces are brought back to Australia to be assembled into her installations.
She also attaches material like horse hair and silk at this stage. Kitson also hunts around the Hill
End and Broken Hill areas collecting animal remains including skulls and bones. Once collected
she then dips them in porcelain and allows for the porcelain to dry. These are then also added to

rejection of the other . By rejecting others from one s community, one de facto denies or chooses to
ignore any positive contribution from them to this community. This paper intends to demonstrate
the impact of such behaviour on the wellbeing of the different communities involved. In the
specific case of the African continent, misery and instability have dominated many people s lives
for decades despite the enormity of human potential and natural resources. South Africas current
socio political realities are conditioned by hundreds of years of migration from Africa, Europe, and
Asia. South Africas internal politics have also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Secret Of The Vietnam War
Most Americans are aware of the Vietnam war, but have never heard of the Secret War in Laos.
The War in Laos was the first of it s kind; it was the CIA s first ever paramilitary operation during
the Cold War. My family is connected to the time period of the Cold War because my grandfather
was sent to a prison camp by the Communists after the US withdrew from Indochina. My family
was affected by the event because after escaping the camp and seeking refuge in Thailand, my
grandfather immigrated to the United States and most of our family is living here now. In the 19th
century, France colonized Indochina what is now known as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to exploit
the environment for economic gain, under the guise of wanting to spread... Show more content on

The Hmong are an ethnic group of people who live in the mountains of Laos. They were seen as
uncivilized barbarians by Laotians, Thai and Vietnamese people. The CIA hired them to become
soldiers in the Secret War, due to their strength, fighting spirit, and expert knowledge of the
terrain. As the war intensified, the US sent fighter bombers to assist Hmong ground forces against
the Pathet Lao (Lao Communist soldiers). According to Kurlantzick, by 1973 the US had
conducted more than 580,000 bombing runs over Laos. In 1969 alone, writes Kurlantzick, the
United States dropped more bombs on Laos than it did on Japan during all of World War II. Yet,
due to lax congressional oversight and media ignorance the American people knew very little about
any of this.
When the US withdrew in 1975, the Hmong rightly felt betrayed. They were left without support,
supplies, and nowhere to go. Most Hmong were hunted down by the Communists and thrown into
reeducation camps along with anyone else who resisted the new Communist government.
Immediately after the Communists took over, people were sent to what they called seminars or
reeducation camps . These camps were the centerpiece of the new regime s policy toward

The Shortcomings of the Articles of Confederation
The years following the American Revolution, better known as the Critical Period, were some of
the most vulnerable moments in the extensive history of the United States. The Critical Period is
infamous for a post war recession, disorganization and competition of states, as well as a total lack
of unity about the nation. The Articles of Confederation, ratified during the onset of this tumultuous
period, added new dimension to early Americans idea of national government. The Articles formed
a loosely united country under a highly restricted federal government. This apparent aversion of
strong central government was rooted in the former colonists fear of a sequel to their monarchial
horror that was England. Some believe that the Articles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Five years earlier, in a letter from the Rhode Island Assembly to Congress the assembly concluded
that taxation on imported goods creates inequality between the commercial and the agrarian
societies of America (Document 1). The Rhode Island Assembly brings up the idea that state
governments were allowed to tax freely without congressional regulation, while Congress posed to
levy importation taxes geared towards the Northern, more commercial part of America. This letter
speaks to the injustices of taxation, and taxation was the main reason for Shays s Rebellion. Shays s
Rebellion caused that unjust and disorganized means of taxation further exemplifies the failure that
was the Articles of Confederation. The final reason why the Articles of Confederation created an
ineffective government is inadequate foreign affairs. Prior to the revolution, the thirteen colonies
were not united as they did not need to be they were all there for the purpose and betterment of
Great Britain. As the colonists won their independence, almost every state began producing a
different type of currency, untracked and unregulated by the new federal government. This total
disunity left the states in competition over exports with one another. This competition left the
country as a whole weak, and other countries perception of us the same. In the table that compares
the value of exports to Great Britain to the population of the nation displays

The Underlying Metaphysical Aspect Of The Songs
The Who have always produced ground breaking, powerful songs. From youth inspired My
Generation to the ever popular and movie producing, Tommy, audiences have been singing their
songs with quiet determination and revelry. This band did not stick to one style, as they grew
older, their music evolved. At the age of 70, both Pete Townshendand Roger Daltry are still rocking
out to thousands. Though the band went through break ups and loss of members, they will
always be known as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. In 1967 Pete became a follower of
the Indian avatar Meher Babawhich inspired him to write the song, Bargain. Although released on
the album, Who s Next, was not even considered at top 20. The hits off of the album included
songs like Baba O Riley and See Me, Feel Me which were all written with a basic message about
enlightenment.
The underlying metaphysical aspect of the songs is knowing that Townshend was a follower of
Meher Baba. The audiences trusts him as his sings about his struggle to find the spirituality he
is so willing to do anything for. I d gladly lose me to find you.. I d gladly give up all I had .... To
find you I d suffer anything and be glad these first lines makes use of epimone for emphasis. The
purpose epimone in a song by using frequent words, such as gladly, glad is to give a base for his
intention to be true to what he wants. Otherwise it would not be as effective. He is consistently

Boxer, Philanthropist And Social Activist Muhammad Ali
Boxer, philanthropist and social activist Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on
January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. Ali showed at an early age that he wasn t afraid of
any bout inside or outside of the ring. Growing up in the segregated South, he experienced racial
prejudice and discrimination firsthand, which likely contributed to his early passion for
boxing. At the age of 12, Ali discovered his talent for boxing through an odd twist of fate. His
bike was stolen, and Ali told a police officer, Joe Martin, that he wanted to beat up the thief.
Well, you better learn how to fight before you start challenging people, Martin reportedly told
him at the time. In addition to being a police officer, Martin also trained young boxers at a local
gym. Ali started working with Martin to learn how to box, and soon began his boxing career. In
his first amateur bout in 1954, he won the fight by split decision. Ali went on to win the 1956
Golden Gloves tournament for novices in the light heavyweight class. Three years later, he won
the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, as well as the Amateur Athletic Union s
national title for the light heavyweight division. Olympic Gold In 1960, Ali won a spot on the
U.S. Olympic boxing team, and traveled to Rome, Italy, to compete. At 6 3 , Ali was an imposing
figure in the ring, but he also became known for his lightning speed and fancy footwork. After

here? The speaker is a Protestant and a member of the Irish upper class. 2. Discuss the tone of
the piece. Pull examples from the text to support your discussion. Swift showed disgust for the
people who would rather beg than take care of themselves. He says, These mothers instead of
being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to
beg sustenance for their helpless infants who, as they grow up, either turn thieves for want of work,
or leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the

6. Why is A Modest Proposal an effective satire? What techniques does Swift use effectively?
Support your answers with examples from the text. It is an effective satire because it gets the
point across very clearly. His descriptions are extremely grotesque and he talks about a very
feared subject, cannibalism. This helps draw attention to the seriousness of the problem. Swift
also provides statistics, which helps further draw attention to the problem. Some techniques he
uses are parody and exaggeration. He uses exaggeration to get his point across and he uses
parody to mock the situation. An example of his effective use of satire is, I have already
computed the charge of nursing a beggar s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers,
and four fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe
no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I
have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular
friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and
grow popular among his tenants, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for
work till she produces another child. 7. Swift enumerates six reasons his proposal will work.
Discuss how these paragraphs impact his purpose. Swift provides support for each reason he
presents in his essay.

Immigration And Immigrants In Australia
Immigration can be defined as the action of individuals coming to live permanently or for a period
in another country. With a forecasted population of 40 million by 2050 in Australia, the population
growth in Australia remains at a steady rate of 1.6%. According to the Bureau of Statistics, each
year, Australias population increases about 350,000 where 190,000 of them are immigrants.
Australia is the currently ranked first amongst the major developed countries for its rapidly
increasing population growth rate. Since 1851, when the discovery of gold was found in Bathurst,
NSW, a significant number of continental Europeans, North Americans and Chinese migrated to
Australia with the hope of making a fortune. Moreover, during the second half of the nineteenth
century, the Australian government decided to subsidise migration to increase the immigrationof
Europeans to Australia. With the White Australian Policy in place, in 1938, the Australian
Government agreed to accept 15,000 Jewish refugees, as a large proportion of the Jewish
community were seeking to leave Germany and Austria due to the forced removal of Jews, The
Nazi policy of Judenrein. The White Australia Policy began to be abandoned in 1966, under Prime
Minister Harold Holt. The last reside of the system was finally abolished in 1973 under the
Government of Gough Whitlam.
Then, in the mid 1940s up to about 1964, during the period of World War II, there was a period of
a noticeable growth in birth rate, known as the baby boomers generation. In this era, these boomers
grew up at a time of dramatic social change, where the Australian economy had an unemployment
rate of 2% due to the free tertiary education.
Furthermore, during the 1970s and 1980s, around 120,000 southern Asian refugees migrated to
Australia, transforming Australia into a multicultural nation. As of this period, immigration to
Australia in the late twentieth century was influenced by a number of world events, including (
the fall of Saigon in 1975 ; the fall of East Timor to Indonesian s troops in 1975; dictatorships in
South America and the Lebanese Civil War of 1975 1990. At that time, in 1977, 20% of the
Australian population was born overseas. In the 1990s, the

Mining Hazards Are Caused By Mining Activities That Impact...
Mining hazards are caused by mining activities that impact the nearby environment. Irreversible
damages were caused around the globe since the beginning of mining.
On January 22, 1959, an underground coal mine located in Pennsylvania, U.S.A., suffered one of
the major disasters in the American coal mining industry. The River Slope Mine, an underground
coal mine under the Knox Coal Company administration, was flooded by the Susquehanna River
after their experienced personnel followed orders and continued mining the Pittston vein area.
Catastrophic consequences followed after reaching the safety stop line beneath the Susquehanna
River. From a total of 82 men that were present at the time of the occurrence only 38 men
evacuated successfully and were able to find their way out with no other assistance than the
desperation to live. After enormous effort 32 men were rescued later that same day. The
subsequent mine damage was extensive and sadly 12 men were trap, despite the relentless effort to
rescue them the task was impossible to complete, their bodies were never recovered.
The purpose of this study is based on engineering geology, assuring that the geological factor
regarding the location, design, development, operation and maintenance of the River Slope Mine
(Knox Mine) were recognised and accounted for.
The monitoring of active mining operations are performed by the owners and by the mining
authorities, but depending on the knowledge and standards at the time, hidden

Opium War
There were two Opium Wars. The first one was from 1839 1842. This war was fought between
China and Britain. This war was fought over the two not seeing eye to eye on a lot of things.
The second Opium War was from 1856 1860. In this war the British forces fought toward the
legalization of the Opium trade. The reason they did this was to be able to expand coolie trace, to
be able to open all of China to British merchants, and also to be able to expand foreign imports
from internat transit duties. This was when France then joined the British. In this essay we are

Life Changing Events Essay
Life changing events can sometimes be difficult. In the stories I Never Had it Made, By Jackie

Melba Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine to go to a white school as a black. When Melba and
the little rock nine first tried to go in the school segregation mobs had forbidden them to go. As
Beals said in the text I saw them about fifty uniformed soldiers of the 101st. This shows that just
because they did not make it in the first time they will make it in the second time. Despite all of
the time they wasted and still could not get in, they still went back every day until they were led
in by soldiers. But the main people who gave support to them are their parents and neighbors and
also the ministers of their church. As said in the text I recognized neighbors and even ministers
from our church. (Beals) This shows that they have plenty support as they walk up the steps of the
school and enter the school. Melba s experiences with breaking the color barrier shows that she

The God Of Small Things Analysis
In The God of Small Things Roy uses a unique writing style to convey a story about two twins
whose childhood is ruined by society s opinion on who can and cannot be loved. Expertly, Roy
manages to touch on important social issues such as caste systems, Indian politics and traditional
family dynamics without conforming to traditional novelstructures. In the God of Small Things,
Roy tests the bounds of literature by combining adjectives and nouns, flipping from English to
Malayalam and adding italics in the middle of sentences. Roy ditches the structure of conventional
novels by using a unusual language that forces the reader to develop a more in depth and
meaningful relationshipwith the characters. WHY Throughout the story Roy joins adjectives and
nouns that foreshadow later scenes in the book. Although the pairing of adjectives and nouns might
seem unconventional, Roy does it in such a meticulous way which provides the reader with more
background information regarding the plot and the history of the characters. For example, when the
concession stand man is molesting Estha, Roy focuses on Estha s thoughtprocess throughout the
ordeal. Good, the Orangedrink Lemondrink Man said, Excellent His hand closed tighter over Estha

  • 2. Charles Rennie Macintosh Research Paper Lauren Richards Melissa Santana ID 247 Project 1. Part 1b. Spring 2015 March 8, 2015 Charles Rennie Mackintosh Charles Rennie Mackintosh has been called Scotland s greatest architect and designer, in addition to being celebrated as one of the most prominent and influential figures in modern design and the art Nouveau period. Mackintosh was an architect, furniture designer, water colorist and ceramicist, and within his wide range of work is a strong element of refined elegance, inspired by nature and blurring the lines between art, craft and design. According to Spencer (2005), Mackintosh sees nature as a spiritual, creative force and one which is essential to human development (p.146), working within this philosophy, Mackintosh inspired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his time at the Glasgow School of Art, Mackintosh was influenced by the philosophies of Thomas Smith, his architecture professor, Alexander McGibbon, an established draughtsman, and the schools new director, Francis Newberry, an Englishman who accepted the post a year into Mackintosh s education. Newberry instituted a new curriculum that had a foundation based on drawing and encouraged students to express their creativity freely. This approach was based on the idea that drawing is a direct observation of nature, a representation of apparent reality rather than a dissected analysis of structure. According to Wilhide (1995), Newberry s stated aim was to practically supply that which Glasgow at present needs namely a race of designers for her own creation (p.16). This idea struck a chord with Mackintosh as his own personal beliefs ran parallel with this teaching approach and he thrived within the school throughout the rest of his education, winning several prizes for many of his designs. At the age of twenty one Mackintosh was invited to join the practice of Honeyman and Keppie as a junior draughtsman where he would later become partner. In 1891, Mackintosh took a leave of absence from Honeyman and Keppie to pursue the Alexander Thomson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Comparing Communism And A Pair Of Silk Stockings Marxism was founded on the principle of there being two sides to everything in life. From a socioeconomic standpoint, the masses were categorized into two main categories, the bourgeoisie, the wealthy business owners, and the proletariat, the poor workers. Moreover, to those whom were in positions of power, there were those to whom were weak. To truly understand this concept, one must look back to the early nineteen hundreds, the Russian Revolution, and the subsequent formation of the Soviet Union. Karl Marx believed that the bourgeoisie exploited the proletariats in this new found industrial age. The proletariat masses lived in poverty, while the bourgeoisie lived lavishly, feeding off the labour intensive work and money made by their workers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their money and power made many feel invincible, superior to the middle and lower class workers. Without the use of reason or compassion, they took more and more to maintain their perpetual high. Similarly, A Pair of Silk Stockings s protagonist Mrs. Sommers experienced this phenomenon during her day of extravagance. The freedom of having fifteen dollars gave her a feeling of importance, a sense of power, which she uses to indulge herself, not thinking about her family. She made purchases without consequence and built herself up to create the illusion of importance, and a sense of belonging with members of the upper class. As a young woman, Mrs. Sommers frequently catered to her every whim, but this changed when she got married. She took on the role of homemaker and mother, fulfilling everyone else s wishes and needs. Her fifteen dollars served as a catalyst in reawakening her own desires. Remembering how sweet the taste of wealth was compared to her present, impoverished, life, she becomes sad, wishing she can stay wealthy forever. Much like the Bourgeoisie, the many purchases made by Mrs. Sommers perpetuated the illusion of economic stability in her community, but once her money ran out, the illusion faded. This solidifies the idea that a taste of wealth is a taste of power, as fifteen dollars transformed the protagonist of this narrative from proletariat to possessing the illusion and tendencies of the ... • 5. P Vulgaris Lab Report After precisely conducting the experiment and tabulating the results, data for Paraquat toxicity upon P. vulgaris plants can be interpreted over several different parameters. The parameters by which Paraquat toxicity was examined within this experiment involve visual observations, x ray diffraction, chlorophyll concentrations, protein concentrations, and lastly malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations on a per mg of protein basis. As stated before Paraquat is very widely used herbicide known to produce superoxide anions leading to chloroplast membrane damage and ultimately a variety of adverse effects upon the host organism, in this case P. vulgaris (Chia et al., 1982). The initial signs of Paraquat toxicity were immensely noticeable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... vulgaris plants, via the formation of a standard curve prepared using varying concentrations of bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution. Following absorbance readings of the various BSA solutions, they were plotted against their concentrations providing an indirect measure for determining protein concentrations of the plant samples within the assay tubes, and through further calculations the sample protein concentration. The mean protein concentration for the control group was calculated to be 3.34 В± 1.30 mg/mL, while the mean treated group concentration was 2.01 В± 1.26 mg/mL. These results similarly like the chlorophyll results correlate with the literature articles, as a reduced protein content within the Paraquat treated plants can be expected to some extent (Chia et al., 1981). This reduction in protein concentration is the result of those superoxide anions produced by Paraquat, disrupting the chloroplast membranes and allowing for intracellular components including some proteins to leak out, hence the decrease in protein concentration in comparison to the non treated plants (Qian et al., 2009). A slight outlier may exist within the treated groups protein concentrations as one of the groups provided a negative value for protein concentration which is not valid, but even after exclusion of that data value, results are still supportive of the expected outcome. Though these results support the claim of Paraquat toxicity causing membrane deterioration and leakiness, protein concentration values are rather more purposeful when used to analyze malondialdehyde (MDA) values on per mg of protein ... • 6. Symbolism In Big Two Hearted River By Hemingway Ernest Hemingway became one of the most notorious writers in the 20th century, likely due to his abnormal style of writing. Hemingway in his writing introduced the new concept of Iceberg Theory which gives the story a implicit meaning made by the author that should be further inferred by the reader. In order to achieve this style Hemingway throughout his works used objects and movements by characters to symbolize emotion, actions and other deeper objects. Many of Hemingway s symbols reoccur among different stories; one of his most recurring symbols is a train/tracks which is used in following Big Two Hearted River , Canary ,and Hills like White Elephants . • 8. Arabian Nights Argumentative Essay The Arabian Nights is renowned for its multiple uses of enframed narratives. The layering of stories adds new meaning to the various tales of The Arabian Nights by bringing up new questions. In every story one reads, one finds themselves asking why Shahrazad would tell such a story, what kind of message is this tale giving Shahriar, and why bother telling another story within an already enframed story. However, The Arabian Nights is not alone in its use of the enframed story. Works inspired by The Arabian Nights use their own enframing devices in order to alter how one perceives and understands the stories these offshoots have taken from The Arabian Nights. The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The story starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a series of events, three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third of the merchant s punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons between these travelers right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler tells their story, one cannot help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed romance which is dealt with in some other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison about the nature of conflict resolution. In particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to help Shahriar understand there are a variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve murdering virgins (The Arabian Nights 1: 3 10). By using enframed stories as a means of comparison, The Arabian Nights adds extra depth and meaning to stories in light of the outer narrative and the surrounding stories in order to produce a far more complex understanding of any one theme or ... • 9. The Worst Moment Of My Life The Scariest Moment of My Life I have this fear. It causes my legs to shake. I start to feel dizzy. And I blab to anyone who is nearby. As thoughts of certain death run through my mind, the world appears a precious, treasured place. I imagine my own funeral, then shrink back at the implications of where my thoughts are taking me. I am terrified of deep waters. Of course, it s not really a fear of the water itself. Rather, it is the feeling I get in the water, the floor of the ocean or poolbelow me untouchable and no firm grasp of anything surrounding me. My sense of security is screamingly absent. There are no lifeguards , not as if they ll ease the fear. I can rely only on my own self assurance that I will live or lack thereof. The creation of my fear happened many years ago. I somehow found myself upside down underwater, while trying to have a good time. Most of my family had come along on a week long trip to Dallas , a suburban, sweltering city in Texas. In the unbearable heat, my mom, aunt, my two cousins and I went to a large public pool. All around the pool and down the sidewalk a multitude of people were sitting around enjoying the heat as if they were at the beach sitting in the sand. A few of the members of my family went first into the cold deep water of the pool. After they left, i was left with only my mom undoubtedly worried for my safety, warned me about the rules of the pool and that the sprinkler was safer for a little five year old ... (299 words) Analysis of the Decision Parker s budgeting decision is a good example of an individual acting with bounded rationality. This term was introduced by Simon in 1957 (as cited in Tolbert Hall, 2008) to argue that normative models of decision making, which assume fully rational and objective judgement (Teale, Dispenza, Flynn Currie, 2003), are unrealistic because human rationality is limited. Parker s judgement may have seemed rational to him, but it was not rational for the organisation, a subtle distinction about rationality made by Storing (as cited in Tolbert Hall, 2008). Parker s judgement was also not rational in that he did not have all available knowledge and awareness of risk, which are the conditions of normative models (Teale et al, 2003) and the official theory of management (Anthony, as cited in Teale et al, 2003, p. 14). For example, Parker did not know about the variations in the terrain when he made his decision, and he also assumed that the assistant workers could work at the same physical rate that he could. Both of these limitations were factors resulting in a risk to on time task completion. I really enjoy watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the actors that were cast in this production. Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and changed his posture by slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse herself into any character, bring them to life, and still have pieces of her own personality shine through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this movie was practically nonexistent, he still made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a legendary mob boss and casino owner named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well because he has this serious demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is sitting down at a pool table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley Coopers character, and he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. • 27. The Importance Of Operant Conditioning Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted experiments on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under certain conditions. These studies were conducted through replicating and standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a controlled environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B. F.) developed the core idea of the Operant ConditioningSkinner, which claims that operant conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner. This individual is not a personality anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. For example, Ellie Henderson, who is a cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she would find something to wear on and to be among those people from the higher levels of society: It was an event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat just to see the lovely clothes. They go to this party at Mrs Dalloway s to show off, to show themselves in a possibly richer way. They do not go there to meet Mrs Dalloway. Although nerve fibers have the capability to regenerate this is a time consuming process that does not always yield a fully functional nerve (Subedi Grossberg, 2011). Nociceptors are free nerve endings in the afferent peripheral nervous system (PNS) that selectively respond to different stimuli. The differences are related to the stimulus which they respond to and the properties of the nerve fibers associated with them. There are three types A, B and C groups based on their diameter. • 30. Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s... ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a manufacturer. This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition. MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market. Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works, they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People magazine. 70% of people s readers are women, the majority of them falling into the 18 44 age range, with median age of 38. These practices should be based on a teacher s pedagogical perspectives. This system was based on a behavioural perspective, whereby expectations were set and behavioural or academic compliance was rewarded. This method is most similar to the assertive discipline outline by Lyons et al. (2014). The use of this token reinforcement system is recommended for motivating disinterested students, encourage students with poor academic outcomes, or to deal with a class with challenging behaviours (Woolfolk Margetts, 2013). In this case, the token system may have been appropriate because it also functioned as social reinforcement, which is consistent with cognitive behavioural theory (Lyons et al., 2014). Whereby, students felt social pressure to conform to the expectations of the teacher and were reminded by peers when they were not conforming. The class code of conduct also reflects an assertive discipline approach with one behavioural descrpitor stating, listen and follow instructions . However, unlike the code of conduct advocated by Lyons et al. (2014), this code of conduct did not articulate a values statement and principles. Instead, only behavioural descriptors were listed. Having the behavioural descriptors without the principles and values statement detaches it from its purpose. Therefore, why students had to listen and follow instructions was not clearly explained. 3.4Logical consequences In the classroom, the teacher used logical consequences which are based on Goal Centered Theory. Here are the top four traits that are most important to me. Although I am an open minded person and respectful of all views, my perfect mate will have to have the same religious views as me. Macwhirr s incredibly literal, unimaginative nature is juxtaposed with his second in command, Jukes, who uses figurative language. The juxtaposition allows the reader to see how Macwhirr and Jukes react to the same problem: a typhoon. When faced with a dangerous typhoon in the middle of the book, Macwhirr remains calm and reads articles from his books on dealing with typhoons. He does not try to avoid the typhoon, much to the displeasure of Jukes, who sees the typhoon as much more than just a bad storm. The eulogy first mentions Coretta s passion as a peaceful activist who wanted to right the wrongs in the world. The eulogy progresses by explaining her background as an African American woman who was born in a small town and loved everyone and everything no matter their difference in this world. Maya then describes her experiences of exchanging phone calls, letters, and flowers with Coretta because they were not able to see each other frequently. She also used humor to put the audience at ease. First, Maya tells the audience that Coretta loved her church, family, friends, and race. She also cared about the sexual orientation of others, the condition of humans, and the struggles in the world (Angelou, n.d., para. 7). This appeals to the audience s emotions because those topics are very controversial and cause many people to end friendships, but not for Coretta. Maya also appeals to the audience when she talks about sending flowers and cards because they rarely saw each other. This affected the audience because many people in the audience know how that feels. Another way that Maya appeals to the audience through pathos is using humor that will help the audience relax. First, Maya told the audience that they would call each other girl because it was a black woman thing to do, she told the audience that in their 70th decade they still said it (Angelou, n.d., para. 9). Maya also brings humor into the argument when she told the audience that she would tell her sister jokes that were not meant for the presence of anyone but the two of them (Angelou, n.d., para. 11). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kitson usually begins by creating slip cast moulds to create multiples of shapes, using various porcelains and clays. However Kitson favours Southern Ice porcelain due to its aesthetic properties such as its white colour and translucency which often she leaves in its natural raw state. Kitson then proceeds to paint, glaze and fire her ceramic pieces in communal kilns in Jingdezhen, China. This is important for her creative process as it helps to connect her pieces to their historical origin and also allows her to fire as much as possible due to the enormity of the kilns. Kitson then uses the coating method of physical vapour disposition. This method was created by NASA in 2010. Kitson prefers this new and highly technologically advanced practice because it prevents the erosion of the clays and porcelain, and can use both organic and inorganic coatings and is more environmentally friendly than most coating techniques. Once this is complete, the ceramic pieces are brought back to Australia to be assembled into her installations. She also attaches material like horse hair and silk at this stage. Discuss the tone of the piece. Pull examples from the text to support your discussion. Swift showed disgust for the people who would rather beg than take care of themselves. He says, These mothers instead of being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants who, as they grow up, either turn thieves for want of work, or leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the Barbados. 3. Support your answers with examples from the text. It is an effective satire because it gets the point across very clearly. His descriptions are extremely grotesque and he talks about a very feared subject, cannibalism. This helps draw attention to the seriousness of the problem. Swift also provides statistics, which helps further draw attention to the problem. Some techniques he uses are parody and exaggeration. He uses exaggeration to get his point across and he uses parody to mock the situation. An example of his effective use of satire is, I have already computed the charge of nursing a beggar s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers, and four fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and grow popular among his tenants, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for work till she produces another child. 7. Swift enumerates six reasons his proposal will work. Discuss how these paragraphs impact his purpose. Swift provides support for each reason he presents in his essay. ... This war was fought over the two not seeing eye to eye on a lot of things. The second Opium War was from 1856 1860. In this war the British forces fought toward the legalization of the Opium trade. The reason they did this was to be able to expand coolie trace, to be able to open all of China to British merchants, and also to be able to expand foreign imports from internat transit duties. This was when France then joined the British. In this essay we are going to cover both of the Opium Wars. The expansion of European imperialism in Asia was all economic. In the stories I Never Had it Made, By Jackie Robinson Warriors Don t Cry By Melba Patillo Beals and The Father of Chinese Aviation. By Rebecca Maskel. Melba Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru all experienced life changing events that impacted their lives. If you did not know these people went through danger to break segregation. Melba Beals and Jackie Robinsonbroke the color barrier by playing on a white ball team and going to a white school as blacks. Melba Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine to go to a white school as a black. When Melba and the little rock nine first tried to go in the school segregation mobs had forbidden them to go. As Beals said in the text I saw them about fifty uniformed soldiers of the 101st. This shows that just because they did not make it in the first time they will make it in the second time. Despite all of the time they wasted and still could not get in, they still went back every day until they were led in by soldiers. But the main people who gave support to them are their parents and neighbors and also the ministers of their church. As said in the text I recognized neighbors and even ministers from our church. (Beals) This shows that they have plenty support as they walk up the steps of the school and enter the school. Melba s experiences with breaking the color barrier shows that she feels proud for what she had accomplished. She and the little rock nine were given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. The God Of Small Things Analysis In The God of Small Things Roy uses a unique writing style to convey a story about two twins whose childhood is ruined by society s opinion on who can and cannot be loved. Expertly, Roy manages to touch on important social issues such as caste systems, Indian politics and traditional family dynamics without conforming to traditional novelstructures. In the God of Small Things, Roy tests the bounds of literature by combining adjectives and nouns, flipping from English to Malayalam and adding italics in the middle of sentences. Roy ditches the structure of conventional novels by using a unusual language that forces the reader to develop a more in depth and meaningful relationshipwith the characters. WHY Throughout the story Roy joins adjectives and nouns that foreshadow later scenes in the book. Although the pairing of adjectives and nouns might seem unconventional, Roy does it in such a meticulous way which provides the reader with more background information regarding the plot and the history of the characters. For example, when the concession stand man is molesting Estha, Roy focuses on Estha s thoughtprocess throughout the ordeal. Good, the Orangedrink Lemondrink Man said, Excellent His hand closed tighter over Estha s. Tight and sweaty. The childlike name Orangedrink Lemondrink Man is similar to the one a young child gives to an imaginary monster that is made up in their heads.
