Removing Storage Related Barriers to Server and Desktop VirtualizationDataCore Software
An IDC Viewpoint Paper: Virtualization is among the technologies that have become increasingly attractive in the current economic climate. Organizations are implementing virtualization solutions to obtain the following benefits: Focus on efficiency and cost reduction, Simplify management and maintenance, and Improve availability and disaster recovery.
During a period when various proposed solutions under consideration were either too expensive, too proprietary
or functionally inadequate, FTEL was contacted by DataCore and introduced to the SANsymphony™ advanced
storage networking and management software. Ian Batten, FTEL’s IT Director, explained, “The DataCore solution
appeared to offer many of the aspects missing from other options, such as block level snapshot, easier device
sharing, single point of administration, better caching and the prospect of interesting solutions to the backup
issue.” FTEL decided to evaluate SANsymphony utilizing commodity RAID devices for storage. With even
relatively low-end storage, the results were impressive enough that the solution moved forward into a
production environment

How to Integrate Hyperconverged Systems with Existing SANsDataCore Software
Hyperconverged systems offer a great deal of promise and yet come with a set of limitations.
While they allow enterprises to re-integrate system components into a single enclosure and reduce the physical complexity, floor space and cost of supporting a workload in the data center, they also often will not support existing storage in local SANs or offered by cloud service providers.
However, there are solutions available to address these challenges and allow hyperconverged systems to realize their promise. Sign up to discover:
• What are hyperconverged systems?
• What challenges do they pose?
• What should the ideal solution to those challenges look like?
• A solution that helps integrate hyperconverged systems with existing SANs
How to Avoid Disasters via Software-Defined Storage Replication & Site RecoveryDataCore Software
Shifting weather patterns across the globe force us to re-evaluate data protection practices in locations we once thought immune from hurricanes, flooding and other natural disasters.
Offsite data replication combined with advanced site recovery methods should top your list.
In this webcast and live demo, you’ll learn about:
• Software-defined storage services that continuously replicate data, containers and virtual machine images over long distances
• Differences between secondary sites you own or rent vs. virtual destinations in public Clouds
• Techniques that help you test and fine tune recovery measures without disrupting production workloads
• Transferring responsibilities to the remote site
• Rapid restoration of normal operations at the primary facilities when conditions permit
Despite years of industry advocacy, cloud adoption in larger firms remains slow. There are many logos for many vendors dotting the cloud technology landscape and many competing architectures. But there are also few standards that guarantee the interoperability of different approaches.
The latest buzz in enterprise cloud technology is around “hybrid cloud data centers” in which large enterprises “build their base” – that is, their core infrastructure, possibly as a “private cloud” – and “buy their burst” – that is, obtain additional public cloud- based resources and services to augment their on-premises capabilities during periods of peak workload handling, for application development, or for business continuity.
Ultimately, the adoption of cloud architecture will be gated by how successfully organizations are able to leverage emerging technologies in a secure and reliable manner and whether the resulting infrastructure actually delivers in the key areas of cost-containment, risk reduction and improved productivity.
Regardless of whether you use a direct attached storage array, or a network-attached storage (NAS) appliances, or a storage area network (SAN) to host your data, if this data infrastructure is not designed for high availability, then the data it stores is not highly available by extension, application availability is at risk – regardless of server clustering.
The purpose of this paper is to outline best practices for improving overall business application availability by building a highly available data infrastructure.

At TUI Cruises, a high level of availability and security are essential for IT systems at sea, and also pose a special challenge. Very fast and expensive shipyard time slots are needed for installation and maintenance. A consistent internet connection cannot always be guaranteed during remote maintenance at sea. Because of the monthly costs of about $50,000 for a 4-Mbit line, larger data transactions are not possible in any case.
After TUI Cruises adopted DataCore SANsymphony they benefited from:
- High level of availability, thanks to synchronous mirroring
- Transparent failover: if a section of a data center fails, the other side automatically takes over
- Scalable in terms of capacity, output, and performance
- Easy to use on-site, with worldwide remote management by the partner
With Thorntons having so many locations—operating across two time zones—basic store functionality is imperative and the reason why Thorntons is such a write-intensive enterprise. Everything that Thorntons does at the store level is considered “mission critical” and is contingent upon system uptime due to their 24/7/365 operation. Attaining non-stop business operations as well as better performance management and capacity management is what drove Thorntons to explore new alternatives to its Dell Compellent SANs that were deployed previously.
After Thorntons adopted DataCore SANsymphony they benefited from:
- Zero-downtime with SANsymphony software-defined storage deployed as two synchronous mirrors
- 50% faster backups (including VMware VMs and SQL
databases), which enables the number of full backups from one to three times a week
- Significant risk reduction attained due to the ability to replicate volumes instantaneously to both the primary and secondary sites
Top 3 Challenges Impacting Your Data and How to Solve ThemDataCore Software
Demands on your data have grown exponentially more difficult for IT departments to manage. Companies that fail to address this new reality risk not only data outages, but a significant loss of business. In this white paper we review the top 3 critical challenges impacting your data (maintaining uninterrupted service, scaling with increased capacity, and improving storage performance) and how to solve them.
Download this white paper to learn about:
- How to maintain data availability in the event of a catastrophic failure within the storage architecture due to hardware malfunctions, site failures, regional disasters, or user errors.
- How to optimize existing storage capacity and safely scale your storage infrastructure up and out to stay ahead of changing storage requirements.
- How to speed up response when reading and writing to disk while reducing latency to dramatically improve storage performance.
Business Continuity for Mission Critical ApplicationsDataCore Software
Unplanned interruption events, a.k.a. “disasters,” hit virtually all data centers at one time or another. While the preponderance of annual downtime results from interruptions that have a limited or localized scope of impact, IT planners must also prepare for the possibility of a catastrophic event with a broader geographical footprint.
Such disasters cannot be circumvented simply by using high availability configurations in servers or storage. What is needed, especially for mission-critical applications and databases, are strategies that can help organizations prevail in the wake of “big footprint” disasters, but that can also be implemented in a more limited way in response to interruption events with a more limited impact profile.
DataCore Software’s storage platform provides several capabilities for data protection and disaster recovery that are well-suited to today’s most mission-critical databases and applications.
Dynamic Hyper-Converged Future Proof Your Data CenterDataCore Software
IT organizations are continuously striving to reduce the amount of time and effort to deploy new resources for the business. Data center and remote office infrastructures are often complex and rigid to deploy, causing operational delays. As a result, many IT organizations are looking at a hyper-converged infrastructure.
Read this whitepaper to discover that a hyper-converged approach is flexible and easy to deploy and offers:
• Lower CAPEX because of lower up-front prices for infrastructure
• Lower OPEX through reductions in operational expenses and personnel
• Faster time-to-value for new business needs
Community Health Network Delivers Unprecedented Availability for Critical Hea...DataCore Software
The use of DataCore Software-Defined Storage resulted in providing CHN with a highly available infrastructure, improved application processing, and the total elimination of storage related downtime. Considering that CHN is using the SANsymphony software to virtualize and manage over 450TBs of data, with an environment supporting 14,000+ users, the seamless availability of all that data is certainly impressive.
With DataCore SANsymphony now in operation at Mission Community Hospital. storage management is less labor-intensive, systems are easily managed and data is simple to migrate when necessary. The overall cost effectiveness of DataCore storage virtualization software platform and DataCore's ability to make the physical storage completely "agnostic" so that hardware is interchangeable are just two of the great benefits for the hospital's IT team.

Next to performance and scalability, cost efficiency is one of the top three reasons most companies cite as their motivations for acquiring storage technology. Businesses are struggling to control the storage costs, and to reduce OPEX costs for administrative staff, infrastructure and data management, and environmental and energy. Every storage vendor, it seems, including most of the Software-defined Storage purveyors, are promising ROIs that require nothing short of a suspension of disbelief.
In this presentation, Jon Toigo of the Data Management Institute digs out the root causes of high storage costs and sketches out a prescription for addressing them. He is joined by Ibrahim “Ibby” Rahmani of DataCore Software, who will address the specific cost efficiency advantages that are being realized by customers of Software-defined Storage
What will $0.08 get you with storage? Typically, not much. But, on $0.08 will change the way you think about storage and cause you to question everything storage vendors have told you. Find out more in this presentation

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

errors, unmet service level agreements, poor capacity allocation and premature
obsolescence. It also complicates how storage resources are allocated and managed.
To solve these challenges, DataCore Software and Huawei, two of the world’s
leading technology innovators, have joined forces to fulfill the customer need
for fast, affordable and simple-to-use Hyper-Converged Solutions,Virtual
SANs and end-to-end Software-defined Storage service platforms.
With DataCore software, Huawei’s servers and storage products are now able to be
easily pooled and integrated with existing storage from a variety of vendors, including
EMC, Hitachi, HP, IBM and NetApp. DataCore’s automated caching and tiering
technologies also make it easy to leverage the power and resources of Huawei’s servers
to accelerate performance over a company’s entire infrastructure of storage assets.
This combination supports powerful features like metro-wide shared storage for
clusters and business continuance, and automates the optimization, provisioning and
migration of data storage across new or installed disk and flash-based technologies.
Another big trend in IT infrastructure is hyper-converged solutions. By combining
the server and storage tiers into one, applications get better performance and
deployment costs get dramatically reduced. Huawei and DataCore Hyper-converged
solutions are a great option to provide reliable high-performance for latency
sensitive applications. In addition, when remote sites need virtualized infrastructure
to run a variety of applications, hyper-converged infrastructure provides one
of the easiest and most cost-effective options for both servers and storage.

Powerful Solutions for Demanding Use Cases:
Huawei FusionServers and DataCore SANsymphony-V software combine to
deliver the predictable performance, continuous availability and “plug and play”
simplicity that organizations demand today. Common use cases, include:
Ideal hyper-converged solutions for Microsoft
and mixed Hyper-V andVMware projects
Certified DataCore and Huawei FusionServer Series based hyper-converged solutions
can be pre-installed with Microsoft server software. They are delivered optimized to
support demanding Microsoft applications and virtualization projects as well as mixed
Hyper-V andVMware environments running business critical applications such as
Microsoft SQL server, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics ERP, SharePoint, Exchange, SAP
andVDI.These solutions are simple and quick to install and easy to use thereafter.
Metro-clustering for business continuity and disaster recovery
These hyper-converged solutions are currently scalable to 64 nodes, yet they require
only two nodes minimum to provide fault tolerant data protection and data services.
Two or more Huawei based server nodes can be used to pool external storage to
easily form a stretch cluster over multiple datacenters. With this, organizations
can reliably introduce DataCore’s proven ‘zero-touch’ failover to provide mission
critical resilience and non-stop data in disaster scenarios. Huawei and DataCore
partners can easily enable a broader set of enterprise customers with application
availability and mobility, regardless of storage infrastructure, by combining DataCore
with Huawei technologies. Asynchronous replication can be enabled to provide
further protection in DR scenarios, including failover to public cloud services.
Performance acceleration for mission-critical business applications
Huawei offers many Direct Attached Storage (DAS) hard drive and flash media
options. Combined with SANsymphony-V software, these can be used to deliver
data via Fibre Channel or iSCSI to external application clients or internally to
