HSPA is a mobile telecommunications standard that extends and improves 3G networks using WCDMA protocols. It was created to increase data speeds and capacity for internet connectivity on 3G mobile devices. HSPA introduced HSDPA for faster downlink speeds up to 14 Mbps and later HSUPA improved uplink speeds up to 5.8 Mbps. Further evolutions of HSPA such as HSPA+ use technologies like multiple-input multiple-output to increase speeds to 22 Mbps.
