Great Places To Work Institute (GPTW) San Francisco Based Institute. In 1984 first list was published in US. Today more than 19 publications in over 30 countries publish lists of Great Places to Work. The Fortune magazine in US, Financial Times in UK and the The Economic Times in India. Has been in India for 5 years.
OVERVIEW  Survey by GPTW Institute. 250 Firms were registered, out of which 200 completed all the formalities. 40,000 employees were surveyed. Major sectors were IT(19), Manufacturing(10) and Financial Sector.  World Wide Survey 1.1 million employees in more than 3000 organisations in 40 countries across the globe
GLOBAL COMPARISONS
LACKING BEHIND… Continue to lag behind the Top 100 in US and Brazil in areas like:   Providing unique and special benefits,  Ability to take time off from work, when required, Compared to the Top 100 in the US, the Best Workplaces in India seem to have more of politics and favouritism.  Employee perceptions about these in the Top 50 in India are 10 percent below the Top 100 US benchmarks.
WHY THIS STUDY IS IMPORTANT The Best Workplaces give us some insight on how organizations are managing changing demographics in an environment where there are abundant people, but a shortage of available talent. Demographic change in the workforce 70% of our population is less than 35 Yrs of age. 40 Top work places have employees with an average age of less than 35 yrs.
Supply – Demand Gap in Manpower India has seen a GDP growth of more than 7 percent for 8 years, and around 9 percent for 4 years. India GDP growth is projected to overtake Japan and Germany in the near future, and by 2025 it is likely to be higher than all countries except US & China. REALITIES Only Possible if current Rate is maintained. 600 million Indians are not literate We have over 2 million graduates coming out of our universities every year out of which only 1/5 is employable in organized sector.

Providing superior work- life value proposition 80 per cent of the employees surveyed agreed that:  " people are encouraged to balance their work life and their  personal life ,"  " management shows a sincere interest in me as a person, not just an employee."  84 per cent agree that they can take time off when they think it is necessary.
