Critical Review of Open Group IT4IT Reference ArchitectureAlan McSweeney
This reviews the Open Group’s IT4IT Reference Architecture (https://www.opengroup.org/it4it) with respect to other operational frameworks to determine its suitability and applicability to the IT operating function.
IT4IT is intended to be a reference architecture for the management of the IT function. It aims to take a value chain approach to create a model of the functions that IT performs and the services it provides to assist organisations in the identification of the activities that contribute to business competitiveness. It is intended to be an integrated framework for the management of IT that emphasises IT service lifecycles.
This paper reviews what is meant by a value-chain, with special reference to the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model (https://www.apics.org/apics-for-business/frameworks/scor). the most widely used and most comprehensive such model.
The SCOR model is part of wider set of operations reference models that describe a view of the critical elements in a value chain:
• Product Life Cycle Operations Reference model (PLCOR) - Manages the activities for product innovation and product and portfolio management
• Customer Chain Operations Reference model (CCOR) - Manages the customer interaction processes
• Design Chain Operations Reference model (DCOR) - Manages the product and service development processes
• Managing for Supply Chain Performance (M4SC) - Translates business strategies into supply chain execution plans and policies
It also compares the IT4IT Reference Architecture and its 32 functional components to other frameworks that purport to identify the critical capabilities of the IT function:
• IT Capability Maturity Framework (IT-CMF) https://ivi.ie/critical-capabilities/ contains 37 critical capabilities
• Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) - http://www.sfia-online.org/ lists over 100 skills

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

HP Business & Application Integration
1. At-a-glance
Bring together your digital
enterprise
HP Business & Application Integration
Enable the New Style of IT through effective integration of your
business services, applications, and information.
Address integration with the
New Style of IT
We live in an increasingly interconnected, digital
world. Rising consumer and citizen expectations,
fuelled by proliferation of connected devices and
desire for instant information, have complicated
delivery and management of effective digital
services. There is little doubt that effective
integration is a core enabler of the digital
enterprise. In fact, many senior IT leaders point
to effective integration as the #1 challenge
that enterprises need to address in order to
succeed with this New Style of IT.1
Integration isn’t the same as it was 10 years
ago. Seamless integration of back-end
business processes, behind the firewall, won’t
cut it anymore. It doesn’t deliver an effective
customer, employee, or citizen experience.
And it won’t deliver the digital enterprise fast
enough to meet business demand.
The new digital enterprise is built on user
experience, which expects access to instant
information, and any business services they
want—anywhere, anytime. This demands
a much more robust, secure, integration
framework in an enterprise’s DNA. To do this,
you must define architecture integration and
governance, set up a center of excellence, and
plan and implement your integration strategy.
We can help. HP has the most complete, end-
to-end, business and application integration
services portfolio in the market.
Integrate the right way
• Assessment and Planning—It all begins with
an assessment—based on a proven integration
maturity model—to gain an understanding of
your business, IT strategies, and goals, and
the current state of your integration
landscape to baseline our recommendations.
• Architecture—With your integration
landscape’s current state well documented,
we define a future integration architecture—
fit for purpose, to deliver a digital enterprise
that proactively addresses your market
opportunities and competitor threats. It
will be the foundation for exploiting and
integrating information in real time, to
provide innovative cloud and mobile services
to employees and customers.
Insights
• Improve time to market
by integrating digitally
enabled business processes
and applications.
• Accelerate implementation
time for integration
competency centers by
25% and limit integration
and security risk.
• Accelerate implementation
time for acquisitions and
divestments by about 40%.
• Reduce IT complexity and
costs by 20% or more
through standardization
and process orchestration.
