Police And Criminal Evidence Act
create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police
have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into
the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal
Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I
will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have
different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather
than the victim. The Human Rights Act 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help
terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and
explain how the research I have found backs it up.
In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in
conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to
appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police
and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that
police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and
questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984).
Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a

What Is The Purpose Of The Custom House Introductory Letter
The first third of the book I read consists of the first eight chapters of the book. I chose this book since
it is about a tale of crime and it seems intriguing since it can be relatable in my time period even
though it was written in the 1850. It can be relatable since their is sin from adultery of Hester and how
society works and judges people like how they shame Hester which is how our culture and society is
today. This book is different from other books since the book first starts off with a long introductory
essay which was called, The Custom House : Introductory . I can see how people may skip over the
essay since it seems to long and unimportant, but the essay serves certain purposes. One purpose was
to explain to the reader how he

New State Constitutions
Even before the Declaration was signed, leaders began preparing new state constitutions. These
documents were based on American ideals of individual rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. They also included values such as popular sovereignty government by consent of the
governed and equal justice under the law. New Hampshire was the first colony to have a constitution.
Each state set up a legislature, most of which were bicameral, or divided into two parts or houses. The
legislature made the laws. The governor, the chief executive, was elected by the legislature or the
citizens. The governor s job was to carry out the laws. The state judges and courts interpreted the laws.
State legislators were elected. In most states, only white male landowners ... Show more content on

A confederation is a voluntary association of independent states. The states in the Confederation
agreed to allow the central government to carry out a limited number of activities. The Articles set up
a one house legislature called the Congress. Each state, no matter what size, had one vote. The Articles
specified the activities that Congress could undertake. In all other matters, the states held sovereignty,
or supreme power. Congress had the authority to conduct foreign affairs, maintain armed forces,
borrow money, and issue currency. It could not enforce its laws or impose taxes. It could ask the states
for money, but could not demand it. Congress had no real power over the states. All 13 states ratified,
or approved, the Articles. Soon, problems with the Articles became clear. Congress could not pass a
law unless nine states voted to accept it. An amendment, or change, to the Articles required approval
of all 13 states. Even when Congress passed laws, it could not enforce them. The Articles did not
provide for courts or a chief executive. A state could ignore a law and Congress could do nothing
about it.

A Case Of A Correctional Officer Essay
They went further on to inform us that only a pretrial would be taking place, since a new information
being submitted by a correctional officer was to be debated as to whether it was substantial enough to
be admitted as evidence. Moreover, because we arrived earlier than the original time for the Riker s
island pretrial, we witnessed a brief trail which to me wasn t informative because very little could be
heard from what the judge, prosecutor and a different defense attorney were discussing. Since I could
retain very little information from that trial, I took a quick glance at the interior structure of the court
room. To accurately present the surroundings of the court room without interrupting the ongoing trail,
I imagined myself standing at the door we entered through to the room. With my back facing the door,
I pictured the room as having seats arranged much like how churches have long chairs that could
occupy a number of individuals, a long aisle that separated the seating into sections of right and left
with the male and female prosecutors of the cases chairs and computers in front of the seats on my
right and the defense attorneys with their clients on the left. The seating sections for observers had
ropes in front of them, separating them from where the prosecutors, lawyers, defendants, judge,
security and the juror were seated. Both the right and left seats had the first roll of seats cleared by the
security with have no sitting on them, a phenomenon that I still

Slavery, Racism, And Slavery Essay
Slavery began before racism in North America. To prove this I will provide an analysis of
chronological events that displayed acts of slavery and racism. With that being said, Initially I will be
delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown Virginia
1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony Johnson
claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving onto
Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery which will divulge the first
instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article regarding
legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which were racist
in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white legislators showing
that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late seventeenth century.
Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began to engulf North America.
Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of the evidence presented,
slavery began before racism.
The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty black
men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. With this being the case, Edmund

Reverend Miner G Clarke s Successes And Failures
Successes and Failures Within Reverend Miner G. Clarke s lifetime, he married twice and fathered
three children, though one did not survive infancy. [1] His first wife died at the age of 31, a failed
marriage. Six months following her untimely death, Clarke married Mary Gurely, a noted author
within her family and a daughter of a reverend. Their marriage carried on for aproximately 46 years up
until his death, in which he was crushed by a carriage wheel.
Within nine years of his early pastoral services, Reverend Miner G. Clark was able to extend his
services to two churches, the Central Baptist Church and the Second Baptist Church. Due to his pleas
for a more advantageous place for worship while preaching for the Second Baptist Church, thirty ...

What Role Does Religion Play In Greek Society
Linear B a script found on clay tablets, uses pictorial signs to represent syllables, is recognized as an
early form of Greek, kept track of people, animals and objects in extreme detail, government kept
track and organized the production of grain and wool, tablets say nothing of individual people not
even kings, very little about political and legal systems, social structures, gender relations and
religious beliefs, (73) Significance The information on the tablets is important, however the
information not found on the tablets is what is really informative. No mention of religion or
government/legal system is found. This suggest that even though there was a central government the
authority likely played a different role in people s lives compared to that of their comparable Middle
Eastern neighbors. The lack of religion on the tablets could mean that authority of rulers and religion
were two separate entities or that religion did not play a very large role in their lives. The information
that is found on the tablets expose the society s strong centralized government and extremely thorough
record keeping process. Iliad An epic poem written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Income and wealth Inequality in Australia Essay
Inequality is present in every economy, but to what extent are income and wealth in Australia unequal
and what government polices contravene income and wealth inequality? Income is defined as money
that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or service or through
investing capital, while wealth is a measure of the value of all of the assets of worth owned by a
person, community, company or country.
Income and wealth inequality refers to the degree to which income is unevenly distributed among
people in an economy. The share of total income received by different groups measures inequality, this
visually represented in the Lorenz curve. The line of perfect equality bisects the graph with the
percentage of income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reveals that a relatively small proportion of households have high net worth and a large portion of
households have low net worth, concluding with the simple statement that: The distribution of wealth
is more unequal in Australia than the distribution of income.
The disparities accounted for in the distribution of wealth and income tends to reflect wealth that is
accumulated during a person s working life and utilised during retirement. Whilst this sources the
foundation of inequality, the distribution of income in Australia is influenced by socio economic
factors such as gender, age, occupation and ethnicity. Gender is a common inconsistency in various
economies, during 2013 average weekly earnings for males were $1516 while females earned $1250,
this is still coherent for males and females in the same occupational categories, and is augmented for
opposite genders in different occupational categories. In terms of ethnicity, it has been recorded that
persons born overseas earn more than persons born in Australia, that non English speaking
backgrounds earn less than English speaking backgrounds and the period of residence in Australia is
proportional to the income earned. However, the lowest income earners in the Australian community
are Indigenous Australians and being heavily reliant on government welfare, earn a substantial loss in
income compared to that

Milton Gordon s Assimilation In America
Milton Gordon, Assimilation in America In Milton Gordon s, Assimilation in America , theorizes that
there is a 3 stage process of assimilation; acculturation (cultural assimilation), integration (structural
assimilation), intermarriage (marital assimilation). However, it is actually 7 stages, but for simplicity
will refer to as 3 stages. The overall process seems to follow the theory of Anglo conformity, in which
immigrants assume the desirability of maintaining English institutions, the English language, and
English oriented cultural patterns as dominant and standard in American life (265). Gordon provides
numerous examples from early immigration waves, specifically the first wave of immigration. Using
this wave of immigration as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Segmented assimilation combines multiple elements and because of this is able to provide a different
perspective. Zhou discusses how this theory recognized the fusion of immigrants in America but
acknowledges that the complete assimilation of becoming American is not always beneficial (999).
Giving the diverseness of America to retain what culture and values one was raised on can benefit the
migrant in various ways. Especially giving the many cultural organizations established to assist
immigrants. I enjoyed the article and agreed with a majority of it. Zhou understands the benefits and
consequences of maintaining and losing any cultural values you migrated with. Her perspective on
Gordon s theories were clarifying in some sense. However, I believe the assimilation process for
second generation is a difficult thing to narrow down. Zhou s theory that where an immigrant is placed
in system describes success and assimilation. This perspective is new and frighteningly eye opening.
Where you are placed in system would have dramatic effects on one s assimilation and ability to

Persuasive Essay On Guns
In 2001, 12,102 murders were caused by gun violence, 17,424 suicides from guns, 366 people died to
accidents involving guns, 316 deaths by guns had unknown reasons, and only 154 were confirmed to
be in self defense. 30,708 deaths from guns in total, and only 154 out of 30,708 deaths were self
defense. Those statistics are alarming. Guns are not being used with the intent to defend yourself.
Guns are being used in today s society for celebration, murders, for sport and gang activity. Guns are
used for war, by the police force and on drill teams. Guns should not be used in such instances where
citizens can harm and even kill others . They should only be utilized to protect their loved ones,
themselves and their valuables, not used as tools of murder, suicide and gang activity.
The Gun Owners Foundation says that guns save more lives than they take and prevent more injuries
than they inflict. This is not true at all, however. The usage of guns for self defense to not self defense
ratio is 1:24. For every time a gun is used in self defense, there are 24 shootings that are not. Also, the
country is deprived of 180 billion dollars per year due to gun violence. A good chunk of this money
comes from taxpayers. You re literally paying for these people s injuries that come from violence
involving firearms.

Topic: Critically analyse Dog of Titwal in the light of partition literature with respect to the Indian
subcontinent.
The Dog of Titwal written by Saadat Hasan Manto talks about he Kashmir conflict that started after
India and Pakistan got independence. The conflict started on 22nd October, 1947 and is still going on.
In this story, the nature is described in a way that it gives an imagery of peaceful hills of this disputed
area of Kashmir but is a dark area because of ongoing conflicts between India and Pakistan over
Kashmir. It is often said that Kashmir looks like paradise but ironically the most violent and gruesome
activities take place in this place that looks like paradise. The war, mostly in the form of ... Show more

The author also conveys the irrational behavior towards the conflict and unnecessary violence.
The war is shown as boring and stagnant in Dog of Tithwal . The beginning of the story suggests that
this conflict is endless. War has become like a routine for the two countries and a part of the
environment that separating it from the elements of nature has become almost impossible. The air is
described as quite unmindful of the soldiers hiding behind the rocks and camouflaged by mountain
shrubbery. The birds sang as they always had and the flowers were in bloom. Bees buzzed about
lazily.
This suggests that not only the war has become a routine for everyone and a part of the environment
but people have stopped questioning the war and the conflicting activities taking place. Jhun Jhun, the
dog has no say in this conflict and is voiceless just like the Kashmiris have no say in where they
belong, whether they belong to India, Pakistan or want an independent

The region was later called by the Spaniards as Ylocos or Ilocos and its people Ilocanos . The Ilocos
Region was already a thriving, fairly advanced cluster of towns and settlements familiar to Chinese,
Japanese and Malay traders when the Spaniard explorer Don Juan de Salcedo and members of his
expedition arrived in Vigan on June 13, 1572. Forthwith, they made Cabigbigaan (Bigan), the heart of
the Ylokos settlement their headquarters which Salcedo called Villa Fernandina and which eventually
gained fame as the Intramuros of Ilocandia . Salcedo declared the whole Northern Luzon as an

the region through evangelization. They established parishes and built churches that still stand today.

Polis Aristotle
Aristotle contends that achieving human happiness and well being is impossible without living in a
city because human beings are political animals and therefore politics is an elemental part of the good
life. Aristotle bases this claim off of the argument that politics and city formation is a natural part of
being human because humans have an inherent impulse to create associations and partnerships that
eventually evolve into political communities, or the polis. These partnerships arise first from two
individual s who need each other to survive (1252b) then to households which extend to become
villages (1252b16), to eventually fully formed self sufficient cities (1252b27). Aristotle s argues that
the polis is prior to all other partnerships (1253a20) because the partnerships are parts that make up
the whole, the polis, and therefore all humans are drawn to create and associate with the ... Show more

By virtue of establishing the partnerships as natural, Aristotle is successful in asserting that the
political is fundamental to human nature and in order for individuals to experience the good life they
must be members of the city (1253a20). To back this claim, Aristotle uses a metaphor of the city as the
body and the citizen as the limb and argues that comparable to the limbs separating from the body, the
individual is not self sufficient when separated from the city and therefore possesses a natural impulse
towards creating and remaining in the polis (1253a25). Furthermore, Aristotle supports this claim by
contending the one who is in need of nothing through being self sufficient is no part of a city and so is
either a beast or a god (1253a27). As a result, all individuals need the city to achieve the good life, and
if they do not need the city they are not

Impact of Credit Card Fraud

Card Credit Fraud
Thesis Statement: Credit card fraud is an inclusive term for larceny and deception committed using a
credit card or any similar payment mechanism as a fraudulent source of funds in a transaction.
The purpose may be to attain goods without paying, or to achieve illegal resources from an account.
Credit card fraud is also an appendage to identity theft. According to the Federal Trade Commission,
while identity theft had been holding steady for the last few years, it saw a 21 percent increase in

They require a personal identification number (PIN) which may also be a violation. Card holders have
several countermeasures, including complex software which can assemble a vest interaction and
guesstimate the possibility of fraud. For example, a large trade occurring in a great distance from the
cardholder s home might seem mistrustful. Merchants may be commanded to call the card holder for
authentication, or reject the transaction or do whatever they want. Customers must call the issuer and
prove their identity to get their card back.
III. Compromised accounts Card bank account information is stored in a number of formats. Account
numbers formally the Primary Account Number (PAN) are often stamped or imprinted on the card,
and a magnetic streak on the back contains the data in machine readable format. Fields can vary, but
the most common include: * Name of card holder * Account number * Expiration date *

Nietzsche s Explaination on the Three Types of History
Nietzsche had an interesting view of history; he saw it as a necessity for men but that we also need to
forget it. He saw history as a service to life and that the necessity of history is for man to be a
historical being. However, Nietzsche also saw too much history as being detrimental and creates a
generation of cynical people. He used the term inwardness defined as man s chaotic inner world filled
with knowledge, taken in excess without hunger, even contrary to need that no longer acts as a
transforming motive impelling to action and remains hidden (Nietzsche 24). Nietzsche believed that
history should be a balanced contemplation between historical and unhistorical to preserve life. He
writes in his scholarship On the Advantage and Disadvantage of History for Life that the unhistorical
and historical are equally necessary for the health of an individual, a people and a culture (10). Within
the historical, Nietzsche named the three types the monumental, antiquarian and the critical.
Nietzsche approaches history as monumental, which is examining the past to inspire greatness for
present and future actions. Monumental history examines the past to use it as a teacher or model for
future greatness. The monumental history is concerned with the greatest moments in history of
humanity and uses it as leverage to emulate or surpass those historical moments. This kind of history
attempts to emulate the greatness of the past but Nietzsche is skeptical of this idea by

and handled by them. Zenda will be in charge of posting interpretive signage around/on top of the
tower, and the children programming team will be in charge of incorporating the tower as a destination
for their activities.
3 Programming Ideas
3.1 Programming 1 Interpretive Signage
The first programing concept involves interpretive signage. This would be a short term project with no
permanent staffing requirements. The initial outlay would just be the cost of the signs themselves
coming to somewhere in ball park of $500. The goal would to be have theses signs on the top of tower
in such a way that they can help provide information about what can be seen without obstructing the
views. Things the might describe include local flora and fauna such as the birds and bees or landmarks
like the farmhouse ruins.

Betrayal In Julius Caesar
In the play Julius Caesar there were multiple characters that performed throughout the play. However,
there were only two characters that stood out the most, Brutus and Cassius. The play starts out in the
City of Rome, where a celebration is taking place over the victorious Julius Caesar who conquered the
city of Pompeii. The celebration of this victory begins the feelings of betrayal by his companions who
seem highly jealous of his actions. The Jealous few are the senators and high status figures among the
city of Rome, who are becoming quite jealous of the Caesar s growing power. Brutus on the other
hand, fears that tyrannical rule may come to Rome if Caesar gains power of the city. The jealousy and
fear develops conspirators with Cassius and Brutus being the two in charge and most important
characters of Julius Caesars assassination. The assassination of Rome s most loved soldier Julius
Caesar is greatly mourned over and with Antony s convincing speech of Caesars loyalty to Rome. The
Roman populous and Antony seek revenge for Caesars murder by hunting down the conspirator s
within the city and eventually creating an war against Cassius and Brutus. In the war, the two mains
characters Brutus and Cassius committed to suicided to save their own honor and allowed Antony and
Octavius who is Julius Caesars adopted son to win the war. In the play, Brutus and Cassius show
distinct differences in there traits as characters and there goal for assassinating Julius Caesar. In

Pursuing A Parson s Fashion Career
In high school it s really hard to concentrate and get the motivation to think about your future, and the
type of lifestyle and job you want. It can often get overwhelming not knowing what you want to do
and having so many options. Also thinking about your financial plans and making big decisions like if
you re going to college or not can be really stressful, but making a plan or narrowing your options
make things so much easier along the way. Information such as what college you re attending, what
degree you want, and how long you are planning to attend are key steps, since it is very important to
know what you re putting yourself in, instead of jumping into something without knowing any
information on the subject. I thought about the careers I m interested in, did research, and this is what
I came up with. Ever since I can remember one of the things I ve wanted to study is psychology.

Essay On Persian Wars
Keri Ann Hutcherson
Western Civilization
Sept 12 2016
The Persian Wars, involving Persia and Greece, occurred in 480 and 490 BCE. Persia invaded Greece
as she tried to expand her land into their territory. King Darius had already led Persia to gradually
expand into Europe with Iona, Macedonia, and Thrace in her possession. The next place on King
Darius list was Athens and the remainder of Greece. King Darius, with his manners, sent emissaries to
demand the Greeks yielding to his rule. The Greeks, who refused to give up their territory, killed these
emissaries; which sent a strong message to King Darius. Sparta and Athens united to protect Greece
from Persian attack. Although Greece took a firm stand, King Darius was not giving in. Persia s
response was to take Greece by force. After Persia failed to take Greece, ten years passed by before
Persia started things back up again. In 480 BCE, King Xerxes attempted to finish King Darius task of
taking over Greece. Both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Greece was spared, so was their culture. This is one area where the long term results of The
Persian Wars come into play. One long term result that is still alive today is the culture of Greece. The
culture of Greece has contributed many amazing things and become a foundation for many
civilizations. If Persia had dominated Greece, their culture may not have survived. Greek culture has
contributed the idea of democracy, architecture, theatre, sculpture, and even the Olympic Games. All
of these things are seen in today s age. After The Persian Wars, Greek culture thrived and is still
thriving. Another long term result, one that was not quite as long term as the one previously stated, is
that Greece put up a fight. This fight screamed that they are a strong country that was not going to be
overtaken by foreigners. Greece established the fact that they meant business and were not to be

Mattel Toy Recall Essay
Executive Summary
Mattel has been criticized heavily for having to recall not once but thrice in 5 weeks 20 million toys
manufactured in China with lead paint and/or loose, potentially dangerous magnets. Clearly Mattel
does not have sufficiently tight quality control procedures in its supply chain to compensate for the
extra risks of outsourcing to Chinese subcontractors and clearly there are design flaws in the toys with
the magnets that could come loose. Although many observers give the company credit for responding
to the crisis quickly with an apology from the CEO and pledges to institute more rigorous product
safety checks, Mattel still faces a number of problems, including significant costs associated with the

The company runs its own factories in China and has successfully managed dozens of vendors there
over the years. Mattel already has an extensive quality assurance program (GMP) in place long before
the bad paint job. That program involved mandatory quality tests by Mattel s vendors as well as
testing of in process and finished goods by Mattel itself. The Toys delivered were clearly not the ones
ordered and specified by Mattel and somehow toxic materials had found their way into the production
process. To try and increase profits suppliers will often switch raw materials for something similar and
cheaper and have got good at passing audits and appearing compliant without actually being
compliant. In many cases, it is the supplier s sub contractors and the sub sub contractors where the
switch occurs and the deeper down the supply chain the problem exists, the more difficult it is to spot.
The ultimate responsibility for the product quality rests with the company that owns the brand9.
Contracts between the corporations and the suppliers clearly stipulate the materials to be used and not
to be used. For instance, lead based paint for toys or azo dyes for garments are forbidden10. The
problem it seems is not with the contract but with the implementation. It is essential for Mattel to
enforce stringent quality controls to catch any vendor who tries to trick them again. At the same time it
is also essential for Mattel to ensure

Creating Cross Functional Teams For A Functional Team
Chapter Eight:
What is the key to creating cross functional teams in which team members put the good of the team
ahead of functional self interest?
A team is a group of individuals who works for the common goal and they contribute to achieve a
unique and common objective. Cross functional teams where members come from different
departments and backgrounds to achieve a common unique goal.
The cross functional team requires hand of top management support and commitment, specific goals
and incentives, Self Managed Team champion who acts an advocate in making the team emerge as self
managed team, adequate and necessary resources, team composition, matching culture and structure,
and sufficient team training. By utilizing these factors cross functional teams can really perform well
under all circumstances.
The strategic to create cross functional teams are likely to provide them with all the resources that they
need and work wonders for them. They require members from different fields that are expert in their
domain areas and work effectively for the achievement of the goals that are likely to be understood on
their own.
Thus, cross functional teams can work better with the formation of it of the members from different
fields work together.
Teams are often credited with making better decisions than individuals, yet they are also criticized for
groupthink. What are some of the strategies for creating effective teams that do not fall victim to the
groupthink phenomenon?

Self Images And Self Image
Self Image
HERO Training 2015 2
Thomas Cumbie
Tuesday, August 18 2015
What is Self Image?
A person s self image can depend on many factors, to include internal/external and perceived/actual.
Their answer when asked What do you believe people think about you? can provide a very succinct
view of their self image and possibly how it is formed. The concept of self is derived from many traits
usually perceived as demographic information (gender, height, weight, race, etc.) but also other less
measurable components such as personal experiences or internalized judgements from others.
Self image may consist of three types:
1. Self image resulting from how the individual sees himself or herself.
2. Self image resulting from how others see the individual.
3. Self image resulting from how the individual perceives others see him or her.
These three types may or may not be an accurate representation of the person. All, some or none of
them may be true.
Cognitive and social psychologists have given self image a more technical term self schema which
refers to a summary of a person s beliefs, experiences and generalizations about the self. Self schema
is based on many aspects including personal interests, traits and physical characteristics.
Victim mentality
Victims of abuse and manipulation often get trapped into a self image of victimization. The
psychological profile of victimization includes a pervasive sense of helplessness, passivity, loss of
control,

The Right To Privacy In The 18th Century
The right to privacy is viewed as a fundamental right all over the world. However, there are many
interpretations of what privacy is, and this interpretations are in some way related to historical events
that shaped the meaning of privacy differently for every country. Countries of the European Union
consider the right to privacy a sacred right, therefore, they have established laws to protect the respect
for private and family life and the right to personal data protection. Although United States has some
sector laws to protect privacy, the constitution does not mention privacy as fundamental right,
nonetheless, the notion of privacy can be extracted from the first 10 amendments of the constitution.
Consequently, regulation of the right to privacy changes drastically between Europe and the United
States. Countries in Europe have regulatory agencies whose only purpose is protect the privacy of its
citizens. In contrast, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the first 10 amendments of the constitution were written, one of the main concerns was
government intrusion. In the 1800s, citizens were concern about the confidentiality of their
correspondence. Likewise in 1890, the concern was photography and yellow journalism. With lack of
privacy laws, citizens brought several cases to the U.S courts because they felt there were violations of
privacy. As a consequent, several torts were written and recognize by most states. This torts included
the intrusion upon seclusion, public disclosure of private facts, false light or publicity, and
appropriation. Though, historical events have help to expand the definition of privacy, there has not
been a critical event that forced America to have a comprehensive federal policy about protecting the
right to privacy. Nevertheless, every time that there is a major concern that threatens the right to
privacy, the government and the states have passed laws to eliminate those

National Incident Management System Response Paper
The Critical infrastructure, or CI, is a subcategory of infrastructure that includes those assets, systems,
and networks, whether physical or virtual, which are so vital that their failure or destruction would
have a debilitating impact on security, governance, public health and safety, public confidence,
commerce, or other societal factors (Bullock, Haddow, Coppola, 2016). According to the 2013 US
National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) there are 16 of these sectors and throughout this paper

49). In order for all of the leaders of the different infrastructures to be successful at eliminating or
mitigating such attacks they will need a common form of communication as all of their systems have
been proven to affect each other. One tool to help eliminate such communication barriers is the
National Incident Management System (NIMS). This system is a standardized management plan that
provides a core set of concepts for incident command and multi agency coordination during
emergency response (Kamien, 2012, p. 486). With such systems as NIMS the government realized that
no one system can work without the other and if one fails they all fail causing wide spread panic and
various other hurdles for emergency responders to respond to. It is up to the government to realize that
our world is no longer ran manually, but rather digitally so that we can better prepare for possible
cyber attacks on our key critical infrastructures.
Throughout this research we have shown the affects of a cyber attack on our water supply. We have
also evaluated the impact that a cyber attack could have on our water supply. Lastly we looked at the
probable third and fourth order effects from the cyber attack on this critical infrastructure to include
the effects on other critical infrastructures that may be affected by the initial cyber attack. If we do not
take the actions of those who seek to harm us through either a physical attack or cyber attack seriously

A Sphere Poem
In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and
developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and
personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver ,
Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem.
Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity.
The Petrarchan sonnet describes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as
well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the
sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due
to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense
and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards
to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used
within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a
way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer
and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of
misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within

Mexico boundary are to be found in the imperial competition between Spain, France, and Britain for
possessions in North America. Lack of agreement between the three imperial powers over the location
of the boundaries separating their territories in North America led to disagreement between Mexico
and an expansionist U.S. After Mexico gained its independence in 1821, many U.S. leaders argued for
taking part or all of Mexico s territory. Numerous prominent U.S. politicians, driven by the ideology
of Manifest Destiny, considered taking Mexico a divine right. (Acuna, 1988) As tensions mounted
between the U.S. and Mexico over Texas, the U.S. deliberately provoked Mexico by sending troops
into territory claimed by Mexico in early 1846. Battles between U.S. and Mexican troops ensued,
quickly resulting in full scale war. The war raged on for two years, largely in favor of the U.S., and
ended with the U.S. taking over Mexico City. On February 2, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
was signed, and Mexico was forced to cede half of its territory to the U.S. Under the treaty s terms, the
U.S. annexed a territory equivalent in size to that of Western Europe, and absorbed 100,000 Mexican
citizens and 200,000 Native Americans living in the territory. (Herzog, 1990) The decades following

The Battle with Social Class
Social class is a system of social stratification, the hierarchy creates specific types of social
inequalities. Social inequality refers to the existence of social inequalities created such as ownership,
types of occupation that creates differences in wealth, income and power, while social stratification
refers to the existence of social groups. Class can be arranged to economic factors such as income,
education, wealth and other factors at work. Poverty remains high and could argue that true poverty
cannot exist in a country as rich as the United States. It is clear that poverty has an impact on certain

A stratification system opens or closes depending on how easy it is for a person to move up or down
of society. It is also called social mobility and may be easier to place in the open rather than closed
societies where this is highly unlikely air. Fighting social status is often not just about who gets what.
Sometimes higher due to the superiority of certain groups believe status they deserve. Theorists
believe that humans have a way of finding a way to preserve what motivates them somehow to fight
for a place in the social status and ensure that they are taken seriously by others in society. People of
lower social rankings tend to feel as if your social status is a product of injustice or discrimination
must be overcome. In fact, nobody wants to be at the base of the food, the social network and nobody
is really able to share first place in the social hierarchy, these things tend to be very controversial and
difficult to solve. Generally, people in the background tend to want to get out of the hole they are,
while the people at the top want to stay on top. This leads to people feeling as if they are dominant, or
being socially dominated. The struggle continues, the conflict tends to escalate, and may even become
violent. Except the best people are willing to share their position with

Hemingway s Big Two-Hearted River
When reading Hemingway s short story Big Two Hearted River without proper knowledge and

analyze Nick s motivations and psychological state before and during Big Two Hearted River in
reference to the question of whether or not this story can stand on its own and the effect of the

Without the prior knowledge of the effect of Indian Camp on Nick s psyche, one could easily declare
the events and his thoughts in Big Two Hearted River as normal, per the passage of time and his
assumed maturity. But, as certain imagery that evokes war in Big Two Hearted River suggests, Nick
also suppressed the events of Fossalta. The first scene in this story has him walking through the fire
destroyed town of Seney (Hemingway 209). He is carrying a pack and a fishing rod just as a soldier
would wear a pack and carry a gun, and, as he was a soldier, it can be inferred that he saw similar
scenes of destruction before (210). Phrases evoking war were also used by the narrator, such as when
Nick left the burned town behind in the heat, as if the town was in the heat of battle with gunfire
(210). Likewise, the imagery of the blackened grasshoppers also evokes war. Nick realize[s] that they
had all turned black from living in the burned over land, (the same land that is similar to scenes of
war) just as he was psychologically blackened by the war because of his injuries (212). He also

theories on dreaming and my conclusion will be my own theory on dreaming with the research that i
have gathered throughout this project. I want to help people understand that dreaming is deeper than

Also i learned that working memory is the part of our memory system allows us to keep information
in consciousness either because you are learning something for the first time or trying to recall
something you learned in the past. With all the information so far that i have gained from these
theories ad from my expert i came up with my own theory. I believe that our dreams are something
very personal. Eventho we have very similar dreams they mean different things. Personally i have had
dreams and have actually learned from them in the past, or they give me a sign. For an example a
dream of a plane crash would more likely to affect travel plans than either thinking about a crash, and
the dream of a plane crash produced a similar level of anxiety as did an actual crash. Or for an
example of how a dream has taught me something would be this dream I frequently dream of my
Nana who passed away a few years ago. In one of these , we are at our old house where we are talking
and suddenly that part of my brain which knows that she is no more here try s to tell me the same. I
wait for her to disappear or something but she doesn t. She is still there with me.When you know
something is supposed to happen and it will soon;then maybe you should spend the present in
enjoying the now as it is; instead of waiting for that something to happen. Once the time passes , you
won t be able to get back to that time. Spending every moment happily is better than waiting for the
happy moments to come. This is how dreams teach you lesson and also can give you signs. Dreaming
can help understand a past experience better and it can resolve problems. Dreams are whatever YOU

driven by, IT. But to successfully meet these challenges and grasp these opportunities, you must focus
on what you do best, not on becoming systems experts. Yet at the same time you must be 100 per cent

importance of strategic focus. And we know exactly what those challenges mean for your IT, now and

School Is East Campus At Rappahannock Hall
Purpose:
The goal of this proposal is recommend that the school makes east campus while including
Rappahannock hall to no longer be dry residence hall for those twenty one in age and older to try and
decrease the high DUI rate here at CNU.
Summary:
CNU student currently must go off campus to consume alcohol no matter the age leaving them to find
a ride or most of the time, drive. This leaves the students at a high risk of drinking too much and then
driving home from said off campus location. As a twenty one year old individual the law gives you the
right to drink and as college students no matter your affiliation or social openness students will drink.
Some students may end up drinking more than others but in the end a student will drink in his/her
college career and CNU forces students to do this off campus making things less safe for the
individual. At CNU they have such a strict dry residence hall regulation that it is possible that one time
you get in trouble you are kicked out of school. Due to the regulations students go off campus to a bar
or a friends house to consume alcohol. Most survey recipients say they often drive to said location to
drink and then because it is most convenient drive themselves home. Most students reported that when
they received their DUI that they were blowing between .09 .11 slightly above the legal limit but still a
DUI. The students when surveyed most said they would have rather just drank in their room so they
did not have to go

The Hypothesis Or Premise Of God
The hypothesis or premise of The 10 Most Common Objections to Christianity, by Alex McFarland, is
to worship and glorify the reason behind our Faith. The Bible teaches that Truth is related to the
character of God, which means it is eternal and unchanging. It does not have an expiration date, and
neither does it go out of style. The problem is that not everyone believes God exists or accepts the
Bible as the ultimate authority. In the foundations of the Faith, Truth must be established as an
absolute.
This book shows how to respond theologically, reasonably, and practically to the most frequent
objections to Christianity today: Objection one...God is Not Real Logically, atheism and agnosticism
do not make sense. Atheism needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the theory of evolution incorrectly argues that those alterations can result in the creation of
new species. It also mistakenly upholds that life itself could have randomly evolved from a nonliving
substance. The statistical probability of life originating by chance is minimal at best, making that
notion illogical.
Objection three...The Bible is Not Completely Authentic Many more prehistoric copies and parts of
the Bible have been discovered than those of any other prehistoric texts. Therefore, the biblical texts
have been established as genuine by historians. Most biblical documentation was recorded just a brief
time after they actually took place, compared to the enormous time gap of centuries that existed with
most other prehistoric texts. When an abundance of biblical texts are inspected and analyzed, they are
verified to be reliable. Objection four... The Bible is not Completely Accurate The Bible contains
complex passages that can be hard to comprehend. However, a verified mistake, convincingly, has
never been discovered in all of Scripture. All 66 books of the Bible are the inspired, inerrant, and
perfect Word of God. Remember that, while the New Testament was not formally assembled until the
Council of Nicea in 327 A.D., the early Church previously recognized the same 27 New Testament
books more than 200 years before then. Objection five... Jesus Was Just a Man It must be

Fistfight In Heaven
Throughout The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Sherman Alexie describes Indian culture
and life on the reservation. Alexie is the author of books, poems, and movie scripts, and he grew up on
the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington. In his writing, he remembers his Native America
history and their lifestyle after the European controlled their society. Throughout his stories, the author
tells the audience about the Indian culture and the problems and issues that occurred inside the
reservation. Of all the stories, I think Indian Education is the most important in the book because it
describes a story about an Indian boy. The author shows the reader what it means for an Indian, like
the Indian boy, Victors to live in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am interested to find out about Indian identity outside their society. After reading Alex s poem Good
Hair , I asked myself how important it is to be an Indian and what really means. I learned from Alex
book that he used to make up a character that tells the Indian history and culture that follows from
thousand years ago, but there are other Indian families who faced more struggle. There are many
stories from this the book that relate to the Indian education story. From other chapters of the book,
there are lots of Indians who are alcoholic and live with dreamless poverty on the reservation. In the
Indian culture, they believed skeletons are made of memories, dreams, and voices. From those
reasons, Indians never wears a watch because they think skeletons would remind them. In another
story from the book, the author uses unknown characters and describe his troubles when he walks into
the third Avenue 7 11, and he gets called to the police from the store because of his dark skin and long
hair. Another reason, he argued with his girlfriend because of the criminal appearance that makes him
trouble. Later that night, an unknown character is driving a car in a nice residential neighbor where he
is pulled over by police. The police say you should be more careful where you drive because you don t

Fall Of The Romanov Dynasty Essay
The Romanovs were a dynasty that reigned Russia for three centuries between the years of 1613 to
1917. The Romanovs had a prominent role in Russia ruling as any other would following custom
however, once the last tsar took over the empire things began to take a turn for the worst. There are
several factors that could take responsibility for the fall of the Romanovs which include: resistance
from the people, incompetent rulers, political and economic complications that began to arise.
The tsars were no longer able to satisfy the desires of the people. The people had high expectations of
the dynasty that Nicolas was just not able to deliver. Conferring to the text The tsar s government had
lost touch with the people not the 120 million peasants but with the few thousand in the immediate
entourage of the dynasty and the essential bureaucrats (). To be quite specific it was members of the
duma who were dissatisfied with the way things were being handled. They were an advisory body
who sought great changes in the Russian empire.
Once Nicolas was crowned in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking on the responsibility of ruling an empire is a task that requires someone who is passionate and
willing to adjust to change. One must be able to take advice from others in areas that they may need
assist with because they may not be as experienced. However, Nicolas II refused to take on those
actions or even display those characteristics. The two factors of the decline of the empire: resistance
from the people and incompetent rulers pretty much go hand and hand; when there is not a competent
ruler the people will not be happy. Being a ruler means that people look up to you to make changes
and address issues as they come. As individuals began to grow weary of Nicolas ability to rule them,
they started to protest and

  • 2. Police And Criminal Evidence Act create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather than the victim. The Human Rights Act 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up. In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984). Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose this book since it is about a tale of crime and it seems intriguing since it can be relatable in my time period even though it was written in the 1850. It can be relatable since their is sin from adultery of Hester and how society works and judges people like how they shame Hester which is how our culture and society is today. This book is different from other books since the book first starts off with a long introductory essay which was called, The Custom House : Introductory . I can see how people may skip over the essay since it seems to long and unimportant, but the essay serves certain purposes. One purpose was to explain to the reader how he ... These documents were based on American ideals of individual rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They also included values such as popular sovereignty government by consent of the governed and equal justice under the law. New Hampshire was the first colony to have a constitution. Each state set up a legislature, most of which were bicameral, or divided into two parts or houses. The legislature made the laws. The governor, the chief executive, was elected by the legislature or the citizens. The governor s job was to carry out the laws. The state judges and courts interpreted the laws. Congress had the authority to conduct foreign affairs, maintain armed forces, borrow money, and issue currency. It could not enforce its laws or impose taxes. It could ask the states for money, but could not demand it. Congress had no real power over the states. All 13 states ratified, or approved, the Articles. A Case Of A Correctional Officer Essay They went further on to inform us that only a pretrial would be taking place, since a new information being submitted by a correctional officer was to be debated as to whether it was substantial enough to be admitted as evidence. Moreover, because we arrived earlier than the original time for the Riker s island pretrial, we witnessed a brief trail which to me wasn t informative because very little could be heard from what the judge, prosecutor and a different defense attorney were discussing. Since I could retain very little information from that trial, I took a quick glance at the interior structure of the court room. To accurately present the surroundings of the court room without interrupting the ongoing trail, I imagined myself standing at the door we entered through to the room. With my back facing the door, I pictured the room as having seats arranged much like how churches have long chairs that could occupy a number of individuals, a long aisle that separated the seating into sections of right and left with the male and female prosecutors of the cases chairs and computers in front of the seats on my right and the defense attorneys with their clients on the left. The seating sections for observers had ropes in front of them, separating them from where the prosecutors, lawyers, defendants, judge, security and the juror were seated. With that being said, Initially I will be delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown Virginia 1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony Johnson claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving onto Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery which will divulge the first instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article regarding legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which were racist in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white legislators showing that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late seventeenth century. Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began to engulf North America. Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of the evidence presented, slavery began before racism. The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty black men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. What Role Does Religion Play In Greek Society Linear B a script found on clay tablets, uses pictorial signs to represent syllables, is recognized as an early form of Greek, kept track of people, animals and objects in extreme detail, government kept track and organized the production of grain and wool, tablets say nothing of individual people not even kings, very little about political and legal systems, social structures, gender relations and religious beliefs, (73) Significance The information on the tablets is important, however the information not found on the tablets is what is really informative. No mention of religion or government/legal system is found. This suggest that even though there was a central government the authority likely played a different role in people s lives compared to that of their comparable Middle Eastern neighbors. The lack of religion on the tablets could mean that authority of rulers and religion were two separate entities or that religion did not play a very large role in their lives. Income is defined as money that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or service or through investing capital, while wealth is a measure of the value of all of the assets of worth owned by a person, community, company or country. Whilst this sources the foundation of inequality, the distribution of income in Australia is influenced by socio economic factors such as gender, age, occupation and ethnicity. Gender is a common inconsistency in various economies, during 2013 average weekly earnings for males were $1516 while females earned $1250, this is still coherent for males and females in the same occupational categories, and is augmented for opposite genders in different occupational categories. In terms of ethnicity, it has been recorded that persons born overseas earn more than persons born in Australia, that non English speaking backgrounds earn less than English speaking backgrounds and the period of residence in Australia is proportional to the income earned. Those statistics are alarming. Guns are not being used with the intent to defend yourself. Guns are being used in today s society for celebration, murders, for sport and gang activity. • 15. Polis Aristotle Aristotle contends that achieving human happiness and well being is impossible without living in a city because human beings are political animals and therefore politics is an elemental part of the good life. Aristotle bases this claim off of the argument that politics and city formation is a natural part of being human because humans have an inherent impulse to create associations and partnerships that eventually evolve into political communities, or the polis. These partnerships arise first from two individual s who need each other to survive (1252b) then to households which extend to become villages (1252b16), to eventually fully formed self sufficient cities (1252b27). By virtue of establishing the partnerships as natural, Aristotle is successful in asserting that the political is fundamental to human nature and in order for individuals to experience the good life they must be members of the city (1253a20). Furthermore, Aristotle supports this claim by contending the one who is in need of nothing through being self sufficient is no part of a city and so is either a beast or a god (1253a27). • 19. Nietzsche s Explaination on the Three Types of History Nietzsche had an interesting view of history; he saw it as a necessity for men but that we also need to forget it. He saw history as a service to life and that the necessity of history is for man to be a historical being. However, Nietzsche also saw too much history as being detrimental and creates a generation of cynical people. He used the term inwardness defined as man s chaotic inner world filled with knowledge, taken in excess without hunger, even contrary to need that no longer acts as a transforming motive impelling to action and remains hidden (Nietzsche 24). Nietzsche believed that history should be a balanced contemplation between historical and unhistorical to preserve life. He writes in his scholarship On the Advantage and Disadvantage of History for Life that the unhistorical and historical are equally necessary for the health of an individual, a people and a culture (10). Within the historical, Nietzsche named the three types the monumental, antiquarian and the critical. Nietzsche approaches history as monumental, which is examining the past to inspire greatness for present and future actions. Monumental history examines the past to use it as a teacher or model for future greatness. The monumental history is concerned with the greatest moments in history of humanity and uses it as leverage to emulate or surpass those historical moments. • 26. Essay On Persian Wars Keri Ann Hutcherson Western Civilization Sept 12 2016 The Persian Wars, involving Persia and Greece, occurred in 480 and 490 BCE. Persia invaded Greece as she tried to expand her land into their territory. King Darius had already led Persia to gradually expand into Europe with Iona, Macedonia, and Thrace in her possession. The next place on King Darius list was Athens and the remainder of Greece. King Darius, with his manners, sent emissaries to demand the Greeks yielding to his rule. The Greeks, who refused to give up their territory, killed these emissaries; which sent a strong message to King Darius. Sparta and Athens united to protect Greece from Persian attack. Although Greece took a firm stand, King Darius was not giving in. Persia s response was to take Greece by force. After Persia failed to take Greece, ten years passed by before Persia started things back up again. In 480 BCE, King Xerxes attempted to finish King Darius task of taking over Greece. Both ... All of these things are seen in today s age. After The Persian Wars, Greek culture thrived and is still thriving. Another long term result, one that was not quite as long term as the one previously stated, is that Greece put up a fight. Mattel Toy Recall Essay Executive Summary Mattel has been criticized heavily for having to recall not once but thrice in 5 weeks 20 million toys manufactured in China with lead paint and/or loose, potentially dangerous magnets. Clearly Mattel does not have sufficiently tight quality control procedures in its supply chain to compensate for the extra risks of outsourcing to Chinese subcontractors and clearly there are design flaws in the toys with the magnets that could come loose. Mattel already has an extensive quality assurance program (GMP) in place long before the bad paint job. That program involved mandatory quality tests by Mattel s vendors as well as testing of in process and finished goods by Mattel itself. The Toys delivered were clearly not the ones ordered and specified by Mattel and somehow toxic materials had found their way into the production process. To try and increase profits suppliers will often switch raw materials for something similar and cheaper and have got good at passing audits and appearing compliant without actually being compliant. In many cases, it is the supplier s sub contractors and the sub sub contractors where the switch occurs and the deeper down the supply chain the problem exists, the more difficult it is to spot. The ultimate responsibility for the product quality rests with the company that owns the brand9. Contracts between the corporations and the suppliers clearly stipulate the materials to be used and not to be used. For instance, lead based paint for toys or azo dyes for garments are forbidden10. • 29. Self Images And Self Image Self Image HERO Training 2015 2 Thomas Cumbie Tuesday, August 18 2015 What is Self Image? A person s self image can depend on many factors, to include internal/external and perceived/actual. Their answer when asked What do you believe people think about you? can provide a very succinct view of their self image and possibly how it is formed. The concept of self is derived from many traits usually perceived as demographic information (gender, height, weight, race, etc.) but also other less measurable components such as personal experiences or internalized judgements from others. Self image may consist of three types: 1. Self image resulting from how the individual sees himself or herself. 2. Self image resulting from how others see the individual. 3. Self image resulting from how the individual perceives others see him or her. These three types may or may not be an accurate representation of the person. All, some or none of them may be true. Cognitive and social psychologists have given self image a more technical term self schema which refers to a summary of a person s beliefs, experiences and generalizations about the self. Self schema is based on many aspects including personal interests, traits and physical characteristics. This system is a standardized management plan that provides a core set of concepts for incident command and multi agency coordination during emergency response (Kamien, 2012, p. 486). • 32. A Sphere Poem In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem. Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity. The Petrarchan sonnet describes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lack of agreement between the three imperial powers over the location of the boundaries separating their territories in North America led to disagreement between Mexico and an expansionist U.S. After Mexico gained its independence in 1821, many U.S. leaders argued for taking part or all of Mexico s territory. Numerous prominent U.S. politicians, driven by the ideology of Manifest Destiny, considered taking Mexico a divine right. (Acuna, 1988) As tensions mounted between the U.S. and Mexico over Texas, the U.S. deliberately provoked Mexico by sending troops into territory claimed by Mexico in early 1846. Battles between U.S. and Mexican troops ensued, quickly resulting in full scale war. The war raged on for two years, largely in favor of the U.S., and ended with the U.S. taking over Mexico City. On February 2, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, and Mexico was forced to cede half of its territory to the U.S. Under the treaty s terms, the U.S. annexed a territory equivalent in size to that of Western Europe, and absorbed 100,000 Mexican citizens and 200,000 Native Americans living in the territory. The first scene in this story has him walking through the fire destroyed town of Seney (Hemingway 209). He is carrying a pack and a fishing rod just as a soldier would wear a pack and carry a gun, and, as he was a soldier, it can be inferred that he saw similar scenes of destruction before (210). Phrases evoking war were also used by the narrator, such as when Nick left the burned town behind in the heat, as if the town was in the heat of battle with gunfire (210). Likewise, the imagery of the blackened grasshoppers also evokes war.
