Harry Truman s Life And Accomplishments
Harry Truman was born in Lamar Missouri on May 8 1884 to Mattie and John Anderson Truman.
Harry Truman s mother and father were unable to decide on his middle name: the two names
considered where first name of Mattie s father, Solomon, and the first name of John s father,
Shipp. Following a practice not uncommon among those of Scotch Irish ancestry, Mattie and John
Truman gave their son the one letter middle name of S . Harry s early years were spent on Mattie
s father s farm, and Grandpa Young adored the boy. No doubt Grandpa Young s fondness of the
child contributed to the contentment he enjoyed during his boyhood, the carefree circumstances
that led Truman in his later years to become fond of saying he had the happiest childhood
imaginable.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jimmy s father was James Pendergast, known as Alderman Jim, the founder of the Pendergast
dynasty and overlord in Kansas City s political machine. Harry accepted the Pendergast s offer to
run for eastern judge in Jackson County, a courthouse job in Independence. Despite the title, the
position was administrative rather than judicial and held some control over the disposition of
municipal funds. Truman won the 1922 election, but lost in his 1924 re election bid. The county
courthouse was home to three judgeships : the eastern judge, the position Truman held from
1922 24, the wester judge, and the presiding judge. In 1926 Truman ran for presiding judge,
again as part of the Pendergast machine, and Truman served two four year terms and at the end
of the second of these, in 1934, he for the US Senate as the state s Democratic contender, and he
unseated the Republican incumbent. He faced Republican challenge in the 1940 primary, but he
prevailed and held his seat. In 1944 Truman was elected vice president when his running mate
FDR won the presidency. FDR died on April 12, 1945, 82 days into Truman s vice presidential
term. Truman took the oath of office two hours and twenty four minutes after FDR s

A Great Author By Norman Vincent Peale
A great author, Norman Vincent Peale, (n.d) had once said, I believe there are two sides to the
phenomenon known as death, this side where we live, and the other side where we shall
continue to live. Eternity does not start with death. We are in eternity now . That was the only
thought buzzing my mind when I got out of my client, Jenny s house. Jenny recently lost her
husband but in his funeral she looked calm, happy and acted like she was not grieving at all. Her
families were concerned and had asked me to take care of her as they thought she has some
psychological issue or was just at great denial. Since, Jenny and I knew each other for long, we
established good therapeutic relationship instantly. According to her mother, she always talked
to herself, laughs loudly at the middle of the night and at times refers to her husband, as he is
still alive. I felt that she is in grieving process and needs some time to recover. However, when I
asked her how she was feeling about her loss, she looked at me like she did not understand what
I was talking about. Later, she said that her husband is still there with her and he is not lost. She
can feel him and talk to him. Furthermore, she express that she realizes her behavior might seem
weird to others but for her that is real and it was happening to her. She shares with me stories
about her connectedness with her husband in a spiritual way. It is just his body have left the world
but his soul was still there with her. Moreover she

Imidazoline Essay
Present there is an enormous deal of scientific attention in the field of Imidazoline derivatives.
Imidazoline is a Nitrogen compound and it can be utilized in organic dyes as nitrogenous electron
donors since it introduces additional electron donors at position 2. Because of high molar extinction
coefficient Imidazoline and other molecular structures containing nitrogen developed as metal free
organic dyes. Usually, metal free organic dyes have the apparent molecular structure of the electron
donor element and the acceptor element connected by the conjugated chain (D ПЂ A). 2
imidazoline is a one of the isomer derived from the imidazole. Imidazoline derivatives are
pharmaceutically and biologically very significant. Imidazolines exhibit major pharmacological and
biological activities such as antidepressive [1], antihyperglycemic [2] , antihypercholesterolemic[3],
anti inflammatory[4] and antihypertensive[5].The drug clonidine containing Imidazoline is used

`` Hyperesthesia, Or, The Sensual Logic Of Late Capitalism ``
Often times, our senses can trigger memories that are hidden in the crevices throughout our brain.
The smell of fresh linen can activate a childhood memory of playing in the backyard while a parent
hangs wet laundry on a clothesline. The taste of gingerbread ice cream can awaken a memory of
visiting grandma s house. The sight of purple daisies can arouse a memory of attending a wedding
decorated with purple daisies. Senses stimulate our memories because according to cultural
anthropologist Constance Classen, senses themselves may each be linked with different trains of
associations (Classen 1997: 401). Because of this link, senses and memories have an interwoven
relationship. Furthermore, some consumer capitalists have exploited this interrelationship to profit
themselves.
In David Howes article, HYPERESTHESIA, or, The Sensual Logic of Late Capitalism, Howes
explains how capitalists today are focusing on multisensory marketing to fully evoke a sensual
experience when one walks into a store or passes by a product (Howes 2005: 298) . This way, the
shopper will be more alert and therefore, be more inclined to purchase goods. This phenomenon is
known as hyperesthesia, which is the heightened experience of senses. This experience fully
engulfs one s sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch, which can cause an overwhelming yet
unforgettable sensation. Some critics have viewed this hypersensuality as an excessive notion to
seduce consumers into purchasing goods; however others

Prokaryotes Vs Eukaryotes Essay
In the replication process of DNA, there are similarities between the process of replication of a
Eukaryote cell and Prokaryote cell. There are also differences in both processes. The most notable
difference would have to start with the cell themselves, which may add to additional differences in
the processes. A prokaryote is a more simplistic cellwith less DNAand a Eukaryote cell is much
more complex with vast amounts of DNA.
The replication process in the end has the same goal and that is to copy DNA and pass it along
to a new cell. The processes begin in a similar fashion, which is the DNA is unwound by an
enzyme known as DNA helicase (Boundless, 2016). Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes both employ the
polymerases to synthesis DNA. In both cases the replication begins within the cell wall or cell
membrane. The processes of replicating the DNA into a new cell occurs with the aid of leading
strands and lagging strands (Bank, E., 2016). A leading and lagging strand uses RNAprime that
inserts the first genetic code that is completed by a subsequent lagging strand, Okazaki fragment.
The differences between the two replications are abundant. Although the replication occurs within
the cell wall for the two processes they both occur in different locations. The prokaryote replication
occurs in cytoplasm. It also is destined to occur in that one location ... Show more content on

The speed at which replication occurs is speedy but the decrease in speed for Eukaryote cells
may go hand and hand with the complexity of the organism. The margin for error to complete
multiple processes with billions of lines of DNA would presumably be higher with increased
speed. It may also be true that having multiple points of origin could be more accurate at inserting
code in the correct position. Lastly, the end of a chromosome and the shortening of the
chromosome may help to relieve the world of people who have experienced everything and know

Essay on Pardoner s Manipulation of Audience
Pardoner s Manipulation of Audience
The Pardoner has had a graduate education in the rhetoric of confession. Chaucer might
intend it to be merely cutely ironic that this confessor confesses as in isn t that a turning of the
tables, la! On the other hand, it may well be that the Pardoner is practicing his rhetorical prowess
on the other pilgrims, and on us, with the extreme skill of a cynical and perceptive man who s
heard every villainy and mastered every deception. His intention, in his confession to the pilgrims,
is obviously not to manipulate them into pity, forgiveness and acceptance, any more than it is to
get them to actually pay to touch his holy relics ; it is a confession, ... Show more content on

His keen insight into human depravity is what makes him such a brilliant con. He plays on the
most deep seated insecurities of his flock when he describes the magical powers of his relics.
They will cure sick livestock (livestock being the most valuable possession of the average listener,
not to mention shepherds); they will prosper crops (for all the farmers in the audience). That
covers the men! To the women, he offers the fantastic promise that his relics will cure their
husbands of their jealousy and suspicion. This is doubly clever, in light of the Wife of Bath s tale,
because it picks up on her ideal of women empowered to cheat on doting, trusting, forgiving
husbands.
Let maken with this water his potage,
And never shal he more his wyf mistriste,
Though he the sooth of hir defaute wiste;
Al had she taken preestes two or three.
It s trebly clever, actually, because the last line can be read both as sexual solicitations to the
women in his flock, as well as an insult to the three priests present on the pilgrimage.
His next con is even more wickedly clever; he demonstrates how he subtly manipulates
his flock into coming forward and making offerings to his relics in order to avoid suspicion that
they have committed some horrible sin.
If any wight be in this chirche now,
That hath doon sinne horrible,

February 7, 1945 Thomas Whitecotton a former Captain with the Missouri Highway Patrol,
accepted the position of Warden of the Missouri State Penitentiary. His mission? clean up the
penitentiary.
A year later, Missouri formed the Department of Corrections. Whitecotton, became its new Director.
Together with Missouri Governor Phil Donnelly, the two set out to take control of Missouri s
prisons.
Prisoners at MSP rioted in September of 1954. The Missouri Highway Patrol and local law
enforcement entered the prison to quell the riot, before all the buildings were burnt to the ground.
In the aftermath of the disturbance, four inmates lay dead, 29 injured and four guards assaulted.

Louis Globe Democrat writer, in the 1960 s, states that he took it upon himself to write about the
appalling Conditions at the Missouri prison. According to Buchanan, he received several
complaints from former inmates at the prison. He decided to investigate the allegations.
In July of 1963, along with Warden Nash and 15 witness s, Patrick Buchanan watched the
execution of convict Sammy Aire Tucker. A man who had a killed a police officer during a robbery.
Wearing a black blindfold, shorts and shoes, Tucker uttered his last words, Thanks for everything. .
The scene horrified Buchanan. A scene Warden Nash, had saw four times.
February of 1964 brought more criticisms to the penitentiary. In a study done by Myrl Alexander,
Director of the Southern Illinois University Center, he stated in a 15 page report, that there were
many problems at the penitentiary.
The report blamed Warden Nash and his officers. Officers who received a mere $262 per month,
were said to be under trained, and too old for the job. The study reported 490 acts of violence in a
30 month period. Warden Nash attempted to compromise, stating that he would use more
communication skills and come down harder on his staff.
In the summer of 1964, Warden Nash attempted to integrate black inmates with white inmates. June
9th, several white inmates jumped 11 black inmates on their way back to their bunks. The whites
wore pillow cases over their heads to hide their identity.

U.s. Security Interests On Egyptian Citizens
Introduction Over the past five years Egypt has been in a growing state of turmoil. It has suffered
two coup d Г©tats that has resulted in five different leaders, and a constant change in national aims.
It temporarily lost US economic aid and military support, and the recent studies have brought to
light the effect that global warming will have on Egyptian citizens in the near future. If you
consider all these aspects together, you may assume that Egyptis in risk of soon becoming another
problem state for U.S. security interests. However, if you take a closer look at the changes made
in just the last two years, you can see that the opposite is true. This paper will argue that rather
than being a hindrance to U.S. security interests, Egypt has the potential to be one of its greatest
allies. To do this, it will first look at the overall importance of Egypt in the National Security s
objectives of the United States. It will then review the history of US Egyptian Relations, Egypt s
military involvement with the United States, and the recent political changes that are shaping
Egypt s future. Then finally this paper will take a moment to exam the leadership of Egypt s
newest President, Abdel Fatteh el Sisi. In doing so we will be able to see how Egypt is poised to
be a key player, in accomplishing the U.S. security objectives, and gain a better understanding of
why the U.S. must make it a priority to support Egypt s newly established leadership.

A Necessary Condition For The Storage Of Information
A necessary condition for the storage of information in the computer s memory is the ability to
transform this very information in the appropriate form for your computer. In the event that this
condition is satisfied, it is necessary to determine the structure, it is suitable for information is
present, one that will provide a set of capabilities required to work with it. Here, the structure
refers to the way the information by which the aggregate of individual elements form a unity,
due to their relationship with each other. Assembled for any rules and logically related between
the data can be processed very efficiently, since for them the overall structure provides a set of
management capabilities one of the things by which achieved good results in solving various

JupiterВґs Europa Moon
Europa is the sixth of Jupiter s moons and the fourth largest. Europa is named after a Phoenician
princess who was abducted by Zeus and taken to the island of Crete to be his lover. Europa was
discovered by Galileo Galilei and possibly Simon Marius in 1610 and is one of the four Galilean
satellites. The others being: Io, Ganymede, and Callisto. Europais very different from the other
moons of Jupiter. Instead of a rocky, cratered surface like Callisto and Ganymede, it instead has a
smooth outer surface of cracked ice. There are very few sign of craters on Europa. In fact, only
three large craters have been found. This indicates that Europa s surface is very young and
active. In photographs sent back by orbiters, the surface resembles sea ice on Earth. Astronomers
believe that beneath this layer of ice may exist an ocean, kept liquid by the moon s internal heat.
This liquid ocean could be as much as 30 miles deep. The existence of deep ocean vents on the
ocean floor on Earth have led some scientists to speculate that there could be a possibility of life
on Europa. Around these deep sea vents on Earth are life forms that do not need sunlight to
survive. They instead feed on bacteria that get their nutrients from chemicals seeping up from the
ocean floor. This process is known as chemosynthesis. Scientists believe that similar life forms
could evolve on Europa if a liquid ocean does indeed exist beneath its frozen surface. The most
apparent features on Europa are a series

Who Is Lenin A Political Genius
Introduction Vladimir Lenin, who became the leader of the Bolshevik in the time of the
Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1903, claimed to be a traditional Marxist.
People such as historians debated Lenin was not an orthodox Marxist but a type of revisionist.
However, he did not make any major alterations to Marx s ideas but instead decided to add his
own to fit to benefit him and his country with modern times and he was the key defender of Marx
when his theories were attacked by revisionists such as Bernstein, Lenin defended Marx s work

Historians such as Neil Harding, however, said do Lenin the justice of treating him as a serious
theoretician and political leader (Hearse) . This led to the development of impartial and
sympathetic views to give Lenin the benefit of the doubt. Traditional ideas Very few politicians
can ever argue against the statement that Lenin was a political genius. Lenin was a master at
manipulation and opportunity which came when he discovered Marx s work. The division in
arguments occurs, however, when one attempts to define genius due to his careless actions in
which he destroyed the working class . The traditional and generally accepted view of Lenin is
that he had a great ability to grasp the potentialities of a situation and twist them to his own
benefit to be able to maximize his power, which is why the word genius might be used lightly .
Lenin was merciless when it came to being an instinctive politician and practitioner of revolution
he wanted to maintain his political power and gain more, but was inconsistent, unorthodox and
indecisive when it came to political thought and theories which was why historians do not now
how to picture Lenin. He is seen , not a theorist of revolution, ( Wilson, 390) But sees and he

Liberation Ideology Essay
Liberty and Equality for All
Oppression and discrimination has existed and continues to exist in the past, present, and future
history of the United States. The mistreatment of particular groups infringe on the idea that all
individuals are free and equal. Liberation ideology strives to eliminate external and internal
oppression of particular groups in both a formal and informal method in our legal system and
society. This ideology believes in the freedom and equality of the individual. Similar to welfare
liberalism, strong government interaction is necessary to eliminate oppression in the legal system.
In our current bipartisan ideological government system, liberation ideology continues to face
oppression and discrimination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, liberation ideology can fully thrive in a liberal democracy that promotes individual
freedom and equal opportunity giving equal rights to all individuals without infringing on the rights
of others. Welfare liberals utilize strong government interaction to bring about change in society, in
which liberation theology strives to eliminate formal discrimination by creating or ratifying legal
policies. Welfare liberals work well with liberation ideology because they believe in the necessity
for strong government intervention to aid individuals who do not have equal opportunity to reach
their full individual freedom. The liberation ideology utilizes the government to make political
moves to overcome the oppression and discrimination. For example, black liberation movements,
women liberation movements, and gay liberation movements all formally made changes in the
political system to eliminate the inequality and to bring about liberation. Black liberation
movements banned racial discrimination and segregation in the workplace and in public places
during the Civil Rights Movement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968, as well as the
Voting Rights Act of 1965. These legal movements allowed blacks to gain power to assimilate

Horror In Frankenstein
Horror interests people because it has the allure of being something that people are not
accustomed to. Not only does it make the point of pushing the bounds of what our minds may
believe is possible, but it also forces these ideas to become plausible in the minds of those
reading or watching such entertainment. The idea behind horror is to create a fiction based on
things that people believe is completely relevant and may even affect certain viewers, but it
ultimately plays on the fears of these people, yet does so in a thrilling way. In some odd way, it
makes those who are entertained seek more building a tolerance of sorts. What is interesting is that

Visual Distraction Essay
Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans
Abstract
This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times
in adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre
motor time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving
as we believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question,
we will collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results.
Our results will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for
gaining knowledge in this area.
This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which
result from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a
fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan,
Culler et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio,
Driscoll et al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go
into specific details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically
the effects of visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals.
A study performed in Great Britain states significant amount of deaths occur yearly which are

Eye Contact
Eye Contact
Books and articles that have been written about speech delivery include the immediacy behavior of
making good eye contact. Eye contact is necessary for conversation and public speaking. However,
eye contact is a learned behavior and the duration of eye contact varies within different cultures.
American parents have taught their children to make eye contact but not to stare, because staring is
rude in the American culture. As you walk down the halls at college or in a department store, you
look at a person in the eye, nod, and then look away. If you are talking to an American and do not
make eye contact, it will make you appear uninterested or dishonest. However, a person who was
raised in Japan may become uneasy if you make eye contact (Richmond McCroskey, 2000).
Furthermore, in different countries around the globe, eye contact ... Show more content on

Good eye contact is an ambiguous idea. Ridiculous advice has been given about how to appear
to connect to the audience if a speaker has difficulty making eye contact. For example, authors
have suggested that you look on the wall behind the audience, spanning back and forth, so it will
seem that you are looking throughout the crowd. Spanning back and forth will only give your
audience motion sickness, and they will look down or away to avoid this uncomfortable
situation. Another suggestion is that you look at a spot on a person s shirt or at an audience
member s forehead. If you stare at a woman s shirt, she may think that you have diverted your
eyes to parts of her body that it is inappropriate to stare at. If you look at the foreheads of your
audience, this could be a distraction. Those who do not feel comfortable looking at people in the
eye need to break themselves of this, and look at people in the eye. This is not to stare. Make

Meminger is the main character in the Book Thief and she stole books because you were not
allowed to read books during that time and if you were caught, the books would be burned and
you would get in trouble. In WW2, it was recorded that 100,000 pieces of art and books were
stolen from German museums, Jewish museums, and Jewish libraries. Theft was a problem
during WW2, because Nazis stole what cultural value that Jews had left. In London s National

libraries and museums had a duty to search for stolen books and paintings that were cultural

Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as
new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the
U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently
the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless
laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the
technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the
Naval Academy should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer.
The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each
technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for
multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point
and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless
NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54
Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54
Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of
20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

The advent of technology has transformed the world into a global village where information is
easily accessible. Many say that social media negatively affects how people get their news, but it is
clear that social media has influenced news distribution and access, especially breaking news.
Social networks, online publishing, and search engines have reduced the production and
distribution of information. The approach is cheap and has a wider audience compared to the
traditional means of newscoverage. Social networks have transformed the relationship between the
mainstream media and blogs (Harner). The mainstream media have adopted social media outlets
such as Twitter, Facebook, and blogging. Social media can add a positive aspect to the individual
s life, as it raises issues that affect society, enhances life, and provides moral support. Matthew
Arnold says that journalism is literature in a hurry, as social media such as Facebook and Twitter
has quickened news delivery (Anderson). Social networks are relied on by society in delivering
breaking news, uniting society, and sharing the plight that befell the people. Moreover, people can
get the news on their electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, tablets, or laptops, which are
convenient, unlike TVs and newspapers. Communication is dynamic and evolving. In essence,
social networking is the best mechanism that people use in news delivery. The social networking
sites enhances communication and conversation among the users.

How Did Chief John Ross Get Fellow Cherokee
Fellow Cherokee people: There is a bad seed among us that must be expelled before spreading it s
disease to more members of our honorable tribe. Jon Ross and his cronies are spreading lies and
blinding our people from seeing the truth.
Chief John Ross says that he is doing what is best for the people when in reality he is doing the
best for himself. Ross denied the people the right to vote in elections by ceasing their existence
despite numerous attempts by the council to reinstate them. Ross is denying the people the right to

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Country
Introduction
Climate change is one of the biggest issues in the world currently. Carbon emissions since the start
of the industrial revolution have caused the CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere to increase, thus
causing temperatures to rise and the climate to change. These changes in climate are going to have
differing effects according to the country. In this essay, the impacts of climatechange and possible
adaptions to it will be explored for the countries Austria and Guatemala.
Background info
Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is located around 47 degrees north of the
equator and is 83,871 sq km. Austria has a temperate climate with cold winters where rain is
frequent and a moderate summer with occasional showers. The west and south of the country is a
mountainous region, whilst the east and north are mostly flat plains. In 2015 Austria had a GDP of
$404.3 billion, with 4% of the population living below the poverty line. Austria s main exports are
machinery and equipment, cars, oil and gas and chemicals. (ref CIA)
Guatemala is a coastal country in Central America. It is around 16 degrees north of the equator and
around 108,889 sq km. Guatemala has a tropical climate which is hot and humid in low lying areas
and cooler in higher altitudes. Guatemala in mostly a mountainous country, but with narrow flat

Bringing Electricity to the Masses Essay
It was not very long ago that as night descended the cities, towns, and homes of the world fell
into darkness as well. Lit by candles, oil lamps, gas lamps, and open flame, the light put off by
these flames was not very bright and also had the down fall of producing fumes, smoke, and ash.
The electric light was little more than a novelty for the wealthy and only had small scale
applications where only a few bulbs would be needed. (Flatow 11) If we think about how
dependent on electricity we are today, it becomes difficult to imagine the world as we know it
without it. Our cars, computers, cell phones, almost every facet of our modern life involves
electricity. It wasn t till a young scientist; Thomas Alva Edison had the idea to create a... Show more

He was able to study the trial and errors of his colleagues and succeed where they had failed.
Another advantage for Edison was that he decided to build his light bulb around an entire
electrical system of his own design. He would design and produce generators to supply
electricity with integrated fuses to regulate and control it. (Flatow 11) Once the system which
would power his bulb was designed he began work on designing the bulb itself. The young
inventor began to experiment with different filament materials and shapes. He soon discovered
that no matter what he tried the filament would melt shortly after a current was run through it.
To resolve this Edison had developed a thermal regulator to prevent the incandescing element of
his lamp from melting says biographer and Edison scholar Paul Israel (Jones 55 56) What this
meant was as the filament heated up, the regulator would turn the light off briefly to allow it to
cool. This gave Edison the confidence to announce that he had made a breakthrough, though he
had not perfected the type of material used to make the filament. He invited the press to witness
his triumph. Disregarding that his bulbs did not last very long even after his thermal regulator
was in place; Edison was still able to convince investors to back him. Edison had been working to
design and build his electrical system at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Menlo Park was

The Generation X And Generation Y
In this study, the most interesting insight I read that the article distinguishes two generations,
generation X and generation Y, they have varied on expectation of life. Additionally, the employer
should realize to diversities of employee personality in the organization, which might contribute to
making a conflict in teamwork such as having the different attitude, not understanding in other
characteristics, confident of subconscious and so on. The generation X, who is composed of the
parent of generation Y (born between 1965 and 1981), this generation has an optimistic aspect, and
also prefer having life balances with working hard. In contrast, the generation Y (born between
1982 and 2000), the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000), who grew up with enslavement
by technology and have more independent (Susaeta et al. 2013). So, I have comprehended the key
which might helpful to make deduction of working in the future.
However, I think the personal behavior depends on education developmental, nation cultural and the
environment where is they grew up, especially the influence of family affects to new generation
thinking. As can be seen in the study of the authors of attitude to work shows that the means for
attitudes to work both for individuals in generation X and Y are slightly different, it might because
of the nation cultural. For example , Thai cultural is always taught young people that they should

understanding of love, it is comprised of qualities existing outside of the world s inherently corrupt
nature. The speaker in Elizabeth Barrette Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese views the world
and her desires through the self sacrificing and pure nature of loveand values it above physical
beauty and simple societal endearment.
The speaker s perspective on the world and love are intertwined. When looking at the world, she

The speaker not only understand the role of love in the world, but also understands the nature of
love to be self sacrificing and pure. She openly rejects a love founded outside of love and
requests that love be primarily for the sake of love itself. This idea is expressed in detail in
Sonnet XIV. Many people desire for love to be defined by aspects regarding their character or a
part of who they are on the inside. However, the speaker rejects this idea and desires for
something deeper in her own relationships and love life. The speaker requests that she not be
loved by her appearance and also not by her internal qualities. Ultimately, the speaker
understands the brevity of one s appearance and even personality as she addresses her lover to
say for these things in themselves, Behold, may, Be changed or change for thee (95). The beauty
that a couple holds dear or even the intellect that a person admires can evolve into a new being
over time and will leave the person who originally embarked on that relationship disappointed
because the reason they felt love has changed or dissolved. However, the speaker s solution to this
dilemma is to love only except for love s sake only (95). By loving for the purpose of love itself, a

American Imperialism In The Philippines Research Paper
Mikayla White 10/20/17 Period 6 American Imperialism in the Philippines Before the Spanish
American war occurred, the Philippines were under the control of Spain; after, they were at the
mercy of America and their decision on whether or not to annex them. Unfortunately, America
decided to annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain
and it would also open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not
have annexed the Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became
allies instead, and while annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs.
Additionally, Americans feared that annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an
American Empire. One reason that America decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure
that France or Germany couldn t trade with them. However, if America decided to create an
alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still been able to trade with the Filipinos.
This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a trading partner; which America
could have made a good commercial profit from. As William Jennings Bryan said: It is not

father Ariston died when he was a child. His mother Perictione remarried a politician by the name
of Pyrilampes. Platowas raised during the Peloponnesian War and was educated in philosophy,
poetry and gymnastics by well known Athenian teachers including a philosopher by the name of
Cratylus. Plato became a devoted follower of Socratesin fact, Socrates was condemned for
corrupting the youth which included Plato at the time. Plato would go on to remember how
Socrates believed in questioning everything which became the basis of his early studies.
Twenty four centuries ago Plato taught us that every human soul has the need and desire to reach
a higher, more pure and spiritual place that will lighten a path towards a better world. This belief
is what made Plato the chief spokesman for every religious group and for all the believers in the
supernatural reality. Centuries after Plato s death his ideas were brought up ... Show more content

Synopsis of scientifically accurate sci fi: The sci fi will be a narrative of astronauts who are
traveling in space on a mission. It will center around their worries of recent signs of their
deteriorating health. It will discuss the damage radiation has dome to their bodies, and how that
impacts their career as an astronaut. It will also discuss their attempts to decrease the damage
space radiation does by increasing the protection level of their spacecraft, decreasing the amount of
exposure they get by traveling faster in space, and decreasing the frequency of travel.
We look up at the sky at night for stars whose light only shines bright enough for us to see on a
clear day with no light pollution. Aside from those twinkling dots, space looks quiet and peaceful.
However, that cannot be farther from the truth. Invisible to us are numerous different types of
radiation that are incredibly harmful to human beings.
Space radiation can be separated into two large categories: electromagnetic radiation and particle
radiation.Electromagnetic radiation are electromagnetic waves, or photons, that are emitted by
astronomical bodies and travel in all frequencies (Auger, 1964). Particle radiation, on the other
hand, are charged particles traveling at high speeds, protons, and even nuclei of other heavier

Essay on Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness
Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness The idea of consciousness has been contemplated
throughout the course of neurobiology and behavior. When does it begin or end? And what,
precisely, is consciousness? Though researchers may only approximate the answers to these
questions, a few things may be inferred. Since the subconscious mind is the sleeping mind, the
conscious mind can be thought of as the awakened mind, the mind which shows itself to others
most often. (1) This is not to say that the conscious mind is reality, because (as will later be
explained) reality is quite subjective. (1) It is just that the conscious mind is the one most people
associate with reality. For example, people who experience an event while dreaming... Show more

(1,2) Since there are many causes of hallucinations lack of sleep, drugs, certain types of epilepsy,
and prolonged meditation not all causes are related to psychological disorders. (1) The second
important issue concerning hallucinations is that people who experience hallucinations
experience a lapse in perception. (1,2,3) People who hallucinate often know what they are
experiencing is caused by external factors. Therefore their perception of events is being altered,
but not to the extent where they believe in a different reality. (An alteration of reality is referred
to as a delusion, which is more serious than a hallucination.) (2) Our perception is not absolutely
real. Our brain filters the environment through sensory areas. The brain s cognitive ability
allows us to organize the stimulus from the external world and perceive it as the real world.
Basically, our perception is only an approximation of reality. Since we are already constantly
thinking through representations and symbols, it is not that difficult for our perception to be
skewed into hallucinations. While hallucinating, the sensory regions of the brain are overridden
by the memory areas of the brain. (1) The memory areas are now in charge and call upon the
sensory areas to deliver a hallucination with feeling, smell, sight, etc. Since all the senses as well
as familiar memories are involved in hallucinations (unlike dreams), perception is distorted for a
short while. (1) There are

What Are The Geographical Advantages Of Shanghai
Geographical Factors
Shanghai has inherited geographical advantages compared to other cities in China. shanghai is
located at the T shaped junction along the sea coast and the Changing River. (Zou et al. 2001)
The geographical advantages not only give Shanghai more opportunities to cooperate with foreign
investors, but also give Shanghai more chances to learn about advanced commercial ideas. The city,
therefore, become more international and opened.
Firstly, as a coastal city, Shanghai has attractive areas for economic development and residence due
to their productive natural resources. (Shi et al. 2001). The natural resources near the sea are one
of the most essential factors for a frim to minimize its cost and increase its production.
Secondly, because Shanghai is a coastal city, the method of sea shipping is especially convenient
for Shanghai s factories to import or export goods. Apart from the sea shipping transportation
method, Shanghai plays an important role that connects northern part of China and Southern part of
China. Therefore, both the number of railway lines and the flight lines are relatively larger than
other cities. Firms located in Shanghai are able to find advantages from the convenient
transportation. Moreover, being a bridge to connect the north and the south gives Shanghai more
opportunities to attract firms from all over China to invest in Shanghai.
Furthermore, thirdly, there are many relatively small cities around Shanghai, such as Suzhou,
Jiaxing and so on. Take an example of the relationship between Shanghai and Suzhou, Suzhou
was more developed than Shanghai in the past, however, the war named the Taiping Rebellion
(1851 1864) took over large areas of southern China (Meng 2006) and Suzhou was destroyed by
this war. Shanghai therefore, became the alternative city to develop. Furthermore, these relatively
small cities are not as developed as Shanghai, therefore, many people from these small cities feel
like finding a job in Shanghai due to the more job opportunities in Shanghai. These phenomena
discussed above has provided Shanghai more labor force. On the one hand, the cheap labor force
provided to Shanghai is able to reduce the rural surplus labor, which is also

Inhumanity In Lord Of The Flies
In the Roman Empire, England, France, and the Middle East, ever since people have been around,
there has always been conflict and fighting. A common theme in war is inhumanity. For example,
in World War I mustard gas would produce terrible blisters on soldiers who were exposed to it.
Empathy for those suffering young men was not presentin those causing the pain. While war is
still ongoing in the world, Europe is much more peaceful today then it was a hundred years ago
and people in general are being taught to resolve conflict in a humane way. Since William Golding
wrote Lord of the Flies there have been many improvements in society over the last 70 years. While

Golding would be fascinated and satisfied to know that society today accepts people s differences
and tries to help them out, something that didn t happen in the 1950s. Nowadays, people are willing
to help others when something tragic arises. In Lord of the Flies a plane crashes and the boys
aboard are forced to survive on the deserted island. Ralph, the original leader, needs to build
shelter but he ends up, working with Simon and No one else while the rest of the boys are
bathing, or eating, or playing (Golding, 50). These lines suggest that during the 1950s, and in
the Lord of the Flies , people were not likely to help each other. Since Golding is a religious man,
he would not appreciate that people do not help each other (Kruger, 90). In recent history,
Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, causing immense flooding and damage. Texas is different from the
rest of the United States culturally, yet people from around the country were able to put aside
these differences and help those in need. For example, Anheuser Busch stopped its beer production
in order to make cans of water for those in need. Though this cost the company profit, they were
willing to sacrifice their prosperity simply to help others. Golding would be surprised

Argumentative Essay On The Glass Castle
Regularly, the finger of fault is uprightly pointed at parents who are unsuccessful at obligation in
bringing up the child. On the off chance that parents mishandled their child, does not offer him/her
security, and ignore his/her needs, society instantly criticizes them. As the child grows up, he or she
even may feel disgraced by his/her parent. Nevertheless, occasionally, all it takes for the child to
totally excuse the disappointments of the parent is for he/she to meet the child s basic needs and/or
wants. In the book, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Wallsis characterized as that child, describing her
most loved youthful memories she went through with her dad, Rex Walls, while looking at the
best snapshots of her life, paying little respect to Rex s conspicuous negligence and devastation
that negatively impacted different parts of her life. One of the many themes in The Glass Castle is
that people need to forgive not just for the benefit of the person who has been wronged but for
themselves to move forward.
Jeannette Walls memoir The Glass Castle, is about her growing up with parents whose beliefs
and persistent rebelliousness was both their curse and their salvation. The book starts when
Walls is four years of age; she is gullible and energetic, and trusts her dad can t take the blame no
matter what. The family ventures a great deal, living in Las Vegas, Blythe, and Battle Mountain
(Nevada), San Francisco (California), Phoenix (Arizona), Welch (West Virginia), and New York
City. Additionally, a great part of Walls memories happens while her family is in their car,
traveling to new places. As the book advances, and she hits her pre adolescent years, she turns out
to be less innocent and starts to acknowledge how strange her family truly is. Jeanette has a kind
identity, she learns all through the novel to act naturally, dismissive and strong. As the brokenness
of the family is raised, Walls and her siblings fought for themselves, supporting each other through
their parents neglect and, finally, find the advantages and will to leave home.
People need to have faith that things will work out for the best in the end. After all the neglect
Walls experiences; sexual abuse at the hands of outsiders and relatives,

some consisted of toys in a room. One group of kids were exposed to adults aggressively hitting

Children of Thalidomide, a name given to the group of about 10,000 infants to be born with
phocomelia, a deformity in which limbs are attached to close to the trunk, the limbs being
grossly underdeveloped or absent. The deformity caused by a drug by the name of Thalidomide.
The tragedy shook many, earning it a spot in Billy Joel s smash hit We Didn t Start the Fire . The
lyrics of the song chronicle important events or people starting from the year 1949 and ending in
1989, the year the song was written. From discussing Elvis Presley to Watergate, to AIDS the song
touches on many happy events and many tragic events, like the Children of Thalidomide. All of
them earning a spot in history forever. Thalidomide is a synthetic glutamic acid derivative that was
synthesized in 1954, by Chemie Grunenthal under the brand name of Contergan. It was
subsequently licensed in 46 other countries, covering all continents. It is an odourless white
crystalline compound with low solubility in water. Thalidomide is potent hypnotic antiemetic, a
drug that is effective in treating nausea and vomiting, and was used as a sedative (Inakanti 190). At
the time sleeplessness was prevalent, and Thalidomide was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This prompted Joel to write a song to prove that the world has always been crazy and it s not just
his generation s fault. That s what he means by we didn t start the fire , the fire being all the
extremes and crazy things that happen in the world. He is saying that his generation isn t
responsible for everything that is happening, and that they are trying to fix what is wrong with
the world ( No we didn t light it but we try to fight it ). Joel is trying to prove that the world has
always been kind of messed up, and will always be kind of messed up. The Fire will always burn

Beneath the layers of cloud, Venus has a relatively smooth, rocky surface.
What group it s belong to: Terrestrial
When was it discovered/named: The Babylonians have the earliest recording of the observation of
Venus, dating back to around 1581 BC.
Origin of the name: Venus was named after the roman goddess of love and beauty. This is most
likely because it is the brightest planet in the night sky. In ancient Babylonia, Venus was known as
Ishtar, the goddess of womanhood and love.
Atmosphere: Venus has a thick layer of Carbon Dioxide as it s atmosphere, much hotter and denser
than Earth s. Venus s atmosphere supports clouds made of sulphuric acid, making it impossible to
optically observe the planet s surface.
Interesting facts:
Venus has no moons.
Venus and Uranus rotate clockwise, the opposing direction of the other planets.
The surface of Venus is an estimated 3 4x older than earths, being around 300 400 million years old.
Venus is the closest planet to Earth.

Scientific Management
Critically discuss the notion that Scientific Management was a good idea in the history of
management thinking.
Since the thousands of years, people use the management in the great projects such as the Egyptian
pyramids and the Great Wall of China. According to Robbins, et al. (2006), Henri Fayol said that all
managers perform five functions: planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling
in the early part of the twentieth century. Robbins stated that, in the mid 1950s, management
functions changed to planning, organizing staffing, directing and controlling. However,
management functions have been reduced to four such as planning, organizing, leading and
controlling.
There are six major approaches to management: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cole (2004, p 20) stated that Gantt introduced a payment system that although the employee s
performance was below on the individual s instruction card, he still qualified for the day rate but
performance of all the work allocated on the card qualified the individual for bonus. Gantt found
that when one worker found that he could achieve the task, the rest quickly followed. As a result,
supervision improved, breakdowns were minimized. Gantt s bonus system also allowed for the
employee to challenge the time allocated for a particular task.
There are a lot of benefits from scientific management. First, the productivity increases dramatically
by improving the working method. Second, the supervisors can measure the performance base on
the working methods. Third, it motivates the employees by incentive payments base on the results
on the performance. Finally, the physical working conditions for employees also improved because
of scientific management. (Cole, 2004)
Although scientific management has a lot of benefits, it also has some disadvantages. Firstly, the
worker s role is reduced by the rigid methods and procedures. Another drawback is the employees
will be bore because of same steps of procedures. Next one is scientific management generates a
carrot and stick approach to the motivation of employees by enabling pay to be geared tightly to
output (Cole, 2004). As stated by Buren (2008), proponents of

Heart Rate Writing Assignment
Heart Rate Writing Assignment
Was summer school P.E really worth it? Wasting my already short summer to the long days in
the sun, running and exercising just so I wouldn t have to take that class during the school year.
To be honest I do think it was worth it. Not only do I now not have to take this class during the
year, but I also got a month s worth of good exercise and I learned how to train within my target
heart rate zone. Don t get me wrong there definitely was some cons to doing summer school P.E.
For example suffering from delayed onset muscle soreness, commonly known as D.O.M.S. or
getting headaches from the heat. Anyway, here is my take on Palmdale High Schools summer
school P.E.
Everyday for sixteen days we had to take our heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The half mile for me would have to be one of the easier exercises we did. I liked it because the
run was short, but it still was a bit challenging due to the heat. I feel like the only reason it was
somewhat easy was because I was used to running like that during track season. The first few
days the half mile for me was really challenging. Not only because of the heat, but also because I
hadn t ran like that since a year before. During track season my times for the 800m were usually
2:40 2:50, but my first day of summer school my time was 4:34 which was terrible. This was
mainly because I was out of shape and I wasn t used to running like that since I stopped running.
Over the course of summer school my times started to slowly drop down and eventually my fastest
time became 3:10 which is still pretty

Harry Truman s mother and father were unable to decide on his middle name: the two names considered where first name of Mattie s father, Solomon, and the first name of John s father, Shipp. Following a practice not uncommon among those of Scotch Irish ancestry, Mattie and John Truman gave their son the one letter middle name of S . Harry s early years were spent on Mattie s father s farm, and Grandpa Young adored the boy. No doubt Grandpa Young s fondness of the child contributed to the contentment he enjoyed during his boyhood, the carefree circumstances that led Truman in his later years to become fond of saying he had the happiest childhood imaginable.... • 3. A Great Author By Norman Vincent Peale A great author, Norman Vincent Peale, (n.d) had once said, I believe there are two sides to the phenomenon known as death, this side where we live, and the other side where we shall continue to live. Eternity does not start with death. We are in eternity now . That was the only thought buzzing my mind when I got out of my client, Jenny s house. Jenny recently lost her husband but in his funeral she looked calm, happy and acted like she was not grieving at all. Her families were concerned and had asked me to take care of her as they thought she has some psychological issue or was just at great denial. Since, Jenny and I knew each other for long, we established good therapeutic relationship instantly. According to her mother, she always talked to herself, laughs loudly at the middle of the night and at times refers to her husband, as he is still alive. I felt that she is in grieving process and needs some time to recover. However, when I asked her how she was feeling about her loss, she looked at me like she did not understand what I was talking about. Later, she said that her husband is still there with her and he is not lost. She can feel him and talk to him. Furthermore, she express that she realizes her behavior might seem weird to others but for her that is real and it was happening to her. She shares with me stories about her connectedness with her husband in a spiritual way. It is just his body have left the world but his soul was still there with her. Moreover she ... Imidazoline is a Nitrogen compound and it can be utilized in organic dyes as nitrogenous electron donors since it introduces additional electron donors at position 2. Usually, metal free organic dyes have the apparent molecular structure of the electron donor element and the acceptor element connected by the conjugated chain (D ПЂ A). 2 imidazoline is a one of the isomer derived from the imidazole. • 5. `` Hyperesthesia, Or, The Sensual Logic Of Late Capitalism `` Often times, our senses can trigger memories that are hidden in the crevices throughout our brain. The smell of fresh linen can activate a childhood memory of playing in the backyard while a parent hangs wet laundry on a clothesline. The taste of gingerbread ice cream can awaken a memory of visiting grandma s house. The sight of purple daisies can arouse a memory of attending a wedding decorated with purple daisies. Senses stimulate our memories because according to cultural anthropologist Constance Classen, senses themselves may each be linked with different trains of associations (Classen 1997: 401). Because of this link, senses and memories have an interwoven relationship. Furthermore, some consumer capitalists have exploited this interrelationship to profit themselves. In David Howes article, HYPERESTHESIA, or, The Sensual Logic of Late Capitalism, Howes explains how capitalists today are focusing on multisensory marketing to fully evoke a sensual experience when one walks into a store or passes by a product (Howes 2005: 298) . This way, the shopper will be more alert and therefore, be more inclined to purchase goods. This phenomenon is known as hyperesthesia, which is the heightened experience of senses. This experience fully engulfs one s sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch, which can cause an overwhelming yet unforgettable sensation. Some critics have viewed this hypersensuality as an excessive notion to seduce consumers into purchasing goods; however others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Prokaryotes Vs Eukaryotes Essay In the replication process of DNA, there are similarities between the process of replication of a Eukaryote cell and Prokaryote cell. There are also differences in both processes. The most notable difference would have to start with the cell themselves, which may add to additional differences in the processes. A prokaryote is a more simplistic cellwith less DNAand a Eukaryote cell is much more complex with vast amounts of DNA. The replication process in the end has the same goal and that is to copy DNA and pass it along to a new cell. The processes begin in a similar fashion, which is the DNA is unwound by an enzyme known as DNA helicase (Boundless, 2016). Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes both employ the polymerases to synthesis DNA. In both cases the replication begins within the cell wall or cell membrane. The processes of replicating the DNA into a new cell occurs with the aid of leading strands and lagging strands (Bank, E., 2016). A leading and lagging strand uses RNAprime that inserts the first genetic code that is completed by a subsequent lagging strand, Okazaki fragment. The differences between the two replications are abundant. Although the replication occurs within the cell wall for the two processes they both occur in different locations. The prokaryote replication occurs in cytoplasm. It also is destined to occur in that one location ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He plays on the most deep seated insecurities of his flock when he describes the magical powers of his relics. They will cure sick livestock (livestock being the most valuable possession of the average listener, not to mention shepherds); they will prosper crops (for all the farmers in the audience). That covers the men! To the women, he offers the fantastic promise that his relics will cure their husbands of their jealousy and suspicion. This is doubly clever, in light of the Wife of Bath s tale, because it picks up on her ideal of women empowered to cheat on doting, trusting, forgiving husbands. Let maken with this water his potage, And never shal he more his wyf mistriste, Though he the sooth of hir defaute wiste; Al had she taken preestes two or three. It s trebly clever, actually, because the last line can be read both as sexual solicitations to the women in his flock, as well as an insult to the three priests present on the pilgrimage. His next con is even more wickedly clever; he demonstrates how he subtly manipulates his flock into coming forward and making offerings to his relics in order to avoid suspicion that they have committed some horrible sin. It has suffered two coup d Г©tats that has resulted in five different leaders, and a constant change in national aims. It temporarily lost US economic aid and military support, and the recent studies have brought to light the effect that global warming will have on Egyptian citizens in the near future. If you consider all these aspects together, you may assume that Egyptis in risk of soon becoming another problem state for U.S. security interests. However, if you take a closer look at the changes made in just the last two years, you can see that the opposite is true. This paper will argue that rather than being a hindrance to U.S. security interests, Egypt has the potential to be one of its greatest allies. To do this, it will first look at the overall importance of Egypt in the National Security s objectives of the United States. It will then review the history of US Egyptian Relations, Egypt s military involvement with the United States, and the recent political changes that are shaping Egypt s future. Then finally this paper will take a moment to exam the leadership of Egypt s newest President, Abdel Fatteh el Sisi. In doing so we will be able to see how Egypt is poised to be a key player, in accomplishing the U.S. security objectives, and gain a better understanding of why the U.S. must make it a priority to support Egypt s newly established leadership. • 12. JupiterВґs Europa Moon Europa is the sixth of Jupiter s moons and the fourth largest. Europa is named after a Phoenician princess who was abducted by Zeus and taken to the island of Crete to be his lover. Europa was discovered by Galileo Galilei and possibly Simon Marius in 1610 and is one of the four Galilean satellites. The others being: Io, Ganymede, and Callisto. Europais very different from the other moons of Jupiter. Instead of a rocky, cratered surface like Callisto and Ganymede, it instead has a smooth outer surface of cracked ice. There are very few sign of craters on Europa. In fact, only three large craters have been found. This indicates that Europa s surface is very young and active. In photographs sent back by orbiters, the surface resembles sea ice on Earth. Astronomers believe that beneath this layer of ice may exist an ocean, kept liquid by the moon s internal heat. This liquid ocean could be as much as 30 miles deep. The existence of deep ocean vents on the ocean floor on Earth have led some scientists to speculate that there could be a possibility of life on Europa. Around these deep sea vents on Earth are life forms that do not need sunlight to survive. They instead feed on bacteria that get their nutrients from chemicals seeping up from the ocean floor. This process is known as chemosynthesis. Scientists believe that similar life forms could evolve on Europa if a liquid ocean does indeed exist beneath its frozen surface. Visual Distraction Essay Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans Abstract This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times in adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre motor time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving as we believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question, we will collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results. Our results will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for gaining knowledge in this area. This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which result from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan, Culler et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio, Driscoll et al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go into specific details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically the effects of visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals. The mainstream media have adopted social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, and blogging. Social media can add a positive aspect to the individual s life, as it raises issues that affect society, enhances life, and provides moral support. Matthew Arnold says that journalism is literature in a hurry, as social media such as Facebook and Twitter has quickened news delivery (Anderson). Social networks are relied on by society in delivering breaking news, uniting society, and sharing the plight that befell the people. Moreover, people can get the news on their electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, tablets, or laptops, which are convenient, unlike TVs and newspapers. Communication is dynamic and evolving. In essence, social networking is the best mechanism that people use in news delivery. The social networking sites enhances communication and conversation among the users. ... Lit by candles, oil lamps, gas lamps, and open flame, the light put off by these flames was not very bright and also had the down fall of producing fumes, smoke, and ash. The electric light was little more than a novelty for the wealthy and only had small scale applications where only a few bulbs would be needed. (Flatow 11) If we think about how dependent on electricity we are today, it becomes difficult to imagine the world as we know it without it. Another advantage for Edison was that he decided to build his light bulb around an entire electrical system of his own design. He would design and produce generators to supply electricity with integrated fuses to regulate and control it. (Flatow 11) Once the system which would power his bulb was designed he began work on designing the bulb itself. The young inventor began to experiment with different filament materials and shapes. He soon discovered that no matter what he tried the filament would melt shortly after a current was run through it. To resolve this Edison had developed a thermal regulator to prevent the incandescing element of his lamp from melting says biographer and Edison scholar Paul Israel (Jones 55 56) What this meant was as the filament heated up, the regulator would turn the light off briefly to allow it to cool. This gave Edison the confidence to announce that he had made a breakthrough, though he had not perfected the type of material used to make the filament. He invited the press to witness his triumph. Disregarding that his bulbs did not last very long even after his thermal regulator was in place; Edison was still able to convince investors to back him. Unfortunately, America decided to annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain and it would also open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not have annexed the Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became allies instead, and while annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs. Additionally, Americans feared that annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an American Empire. One reason that America decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure that France or Germany couldn t trade with them. However, if America decided to create an alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still been able to trade with the Filipinos. This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a trading partner; which America could have made a good commercial profit from. Essay on Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness The idea of consciousness has been contemplated throughout the course of neurobiology and behavior. When does it begin or end? And what, precisely, is consciousness? Though researchers may only approximate the answers to these questions, a few things may be inferred. Since the subconscious mind is the sleeping mind, the conscious mind can be thought of as the awakened mind, the mind which shows itself to others most often. (1) This is not to say that the conscious mind is reality, because (as will later be explained) reality is quite subjective. (1,2) Since there are many causes of hallucinations lack of sleep, drugs, certain types of epilepsy, and prolonged meditation not all causes are related to psychological disorders. (1) The second important issue concerning hallucinations is that people who experience hallucinations experience a lapse in perception. (1,2,3) People who hallucinate often know what they are experiencing is caused by external factors. Therefore their perception of events is being altered, but not to the extent where they believe in a different reality. (An alteration of reality is referred to as a delusion, which is more serious than a hallucination.) (2) Our perception is not absolutely real. Our brain filters the environment through sensory areas. The brain s cognitive ability allows us to organize the stimulus from the external world and perceive it as the real world. Basically, our perception is only an approximation of reality. Since we are already constantly thinking through representations and symbols, it is not that difficult for our perception to be skewed into hallucinations. While hallucinating, the sensory regions of the brain are overridden by the memory areas of the brain. (1) The memory areas are now in charge and call upon the sensory areas to deliver a hallucination with feeling, smell, sight, etc. Since all the senses as well as familiar memories are involved in hallucinations (unlike dreams), perception is distorted for a short while. • 37. What Are The Geographical Advantages Of Shanghai Geographical Factors Shanghai has inherited geographical advantages compared to other cities in China. shanghai is located at the T shaped junction along the sea coast and the Changing River. (Zou et al. 2001) The geographical advantages not only give Shanghai more opportunities to cooperate with foreign investors, but also give Shanghai more chances to learn about advanced commercial ideas. The city, therefore, become more international and opened. Firstly, as a coastal city, Shanghai has attractive areas for economic development and residence due to their productive natural resources. (Shi et al. 2001). The natural resources near the sea are one of the most essential factors for a frim to minimize its cost and increase its production. Secondly, because Shanghai is a coastal city, the method of sea shipping is especially convenient for Shanghai s factories to import or export goods. Apart from the sea shipping transportation method, Shanghai plays an important role that connects northern part of China and Southern part of China. Therefore, both the number of railway lines and the flight lines are relatively larger than other cities. Firms located in Shanghai are able to find advantages from the convenient transportation. Moreover, being a bridge to connect the north and the south gives Shanghai more opportunities to attract firms from all over China to invest in Shanghai. Furthermore, thirdly, there are many relatively small cities around Shanghai, such as Suzhou, Jiaxing and so on. Take an example of the relationship between Shanghai and Suzhou, Suzhou was more developed than Shanghai in the past, however, the war named the Taiping Rebellion (1851 1864) took over large areas of southern China (Meng 2006) and Suzhou was destroyed by this war. Shanghai therefore, became the alternative city to develop. Furthermore, these relatively small cities are not as developed as Shanghai, therefore, many people from these small cities feel like finding a job in Shanghai due to the more job opportunities in Shanghai. These phenomena discussed above has provided Shanghai more labor force. On the one hand, the cheap labor force provided to Shanghai is able to reduce the rural surplus labor, which is also ... On the off chance that parents mishandled their child, does not offer him/her security, and ignore his/her needs, society instantly criticizes them. As the child grows up, he or she even may feel disgraced by his/her parent. Nevertheless, occasionally, all it takes for the child to totally excuse the disappointments of the parent is for he/she to meet the child s basic needs and/or wants. In the book, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Wallsis characterized as that child, describing her most loved youthful memories she went through with her dad, Rex Walls, while looking at the best snapshots of her life, paying little respect to Rex s conspicuous negligence and devastation that negatively impacted different parts of her life. One of the many themes in The Glass Castle is that people need to forgive not just for the benefit of the person who has been wronged but for themselves to move forward. Jeannette Walls memoir The Glass Castle, is about her growing up with parents whose beliefs and persistent rebelliousness was both their curse and their salvation. The book starts when Walls is four years of age; she is gullible and energetic, and trusts her dad can t take the blame no matter what. The family ventures a great deal, living in Las Vegas, Blythe, and Battle Mountain (Nevada), San Francisco (California), Phoenix (Arizona), Welch (West Virginia), and New York City. • 44. Scientific Management Critically discuss the notion that Scientific Management was a good idea in the history of management thinking. Since the thousands of years, people use the management in the great projects such as the Egyptian pyramids and the Great Wall of China. According to Robbins, et al. (2006), Henri Fayol said that all managers perform five functions: planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling in the early part of the twentieth century. Robbins stated that, in the mid 1950s, management functions changed to planning, organizing staffing, directing and controlling. However, management functions have been reduced to four such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling. There are six major approaches to management: ... Cole (2004, p 20) stated that Gantt introduced a payment system that although the employee s performance was below on the individual s instruction card, he still qualified for the day rate but performance of all the work allocated on the card qualified the individual for bonus. Gantt found that when one worker found that he could achieve the task, the rest quickly followed. As a result, supervision improved, breakdowns were minimized. Gantt s bonus system also allowed for the employee to challenge the time allocated for a particular task. There are a lot of benefits from scientific management. First, the productivity increases dramatically by improving the working method. Second, the supervisors can measure the performance base on the working methods. Third, it motivates the employees by incentive payments base on the results on the performance. Finally, the physical working conditions for employees also improved because of scientific management. (Cole, 2004) Although scientific management has a lot of benefits, it also has some disadvantages. Firstly, the worker s role is reduced by the rigid methods and procedures. Another drawback is the employees will be bore because of same steps of procedures. Next one is scientific management generates a carrot and stick approach to the motivation of employees by enabling pay to be geared tightly to output (Cole, 2004). As stated by Buren (2008), proponents of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Heart Rate Writing Assignment Heart Rate Writing Assignment Was summer school P.E really worth it? Wasting my already short summer to the long days in the sun, running and exercising just so I wouldn t have to take that class during the school year. To be honest I do think it was worth it. Not only do I now not have to take this class during the year, but I also got a month s worth of good exercise and I learned how to train within my target heart rate zone. Don t get me wrong there definitely was some cons to doing summer school P.E. For example suffering from delayed onset muscle soreness, commonly known as D.O.M.S. or getting headaches from the heat. Anyway, here is my take on Palmdale High Schools summer school P.E. Everyday for sixteen days we had to take our heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The half mile for me would have to be one of the easier exercises we did. I liked it because the run was short, but it still was a bit challenging due to the heat. I feel like the only reason it was somewhat easy was because I was used to running like that during track season. The first few days the half mile for me was really challenging. Not only because of the heat, but also because I hadn t ran like that since a year before. During track season my times for the 800m were usually 2:40 2:50, but my first day of summer school my time was 4:34 which was terrible. This was mainly because I was out of shape and I wasn t used to running like that since I stopped running. Over the course of summer school my times started to slowly drop down and eventually my fastest time became 3:10 which is still pretty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
