Mim Attack Essay
What series of malicious events led up to the incident?
The following events led up to the reported incident. First, an attacker spoofed his IP address to
eavesdrop on the network to find the finance and HR information systems. Second, the employee
hacked into the HR database and increased his salary in the records system. This resulted in the
employee receiving two paychecks with the altered amounts. Third, the employee sniffed the network
to intercept and alter emails about the checks between an auditor and management. Fourth, the
employee impersonated a person who has access to financial records to gain more access to other
financial records. Finally, the employee decreased the company President s paycheck while increasing
his paycheck by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Gary Paulsen s Hatchet
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a realistic fiction novel that displays the many physical and mental
challenges of surviving in the wild alone. This story, or as some would call an adventure, is about a
young man named Brian Robeson s struggle and fight to survive in the wild against all odds. When
Brian s plane crashes on his way to see his father in Canada, the pilot has a heart attack and eventually
the plane goes down, leaving him stranded in the wild all alone. Being raised in a city, Brian has very
little experience with the wild. On top of that, throughout this novel he experiences a series of
unfortunate events. From sickening berries, to moose attacks and tornadoes, Brian manages to keep
his will to survive and stays on top of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thinking nothing of it, Brian continues to daze out the window and look at the scenery they are flying
over. The pains increasingly get worse and the pilot begins to show signs that he is in great pain.
Eventually, the pilot makes an attempt to radio for help, but fails as he has a heart attack and falls back
in his seat. Brian sits in shock for some time before realizing he has to come up with a solution. He
makes the decision to try and land the plane in a lake as it runs out of fuel. Eventually the plane begins
to go down, and he barely makes it to the lake which, in time, will become his camp. Suffering only
minor injuries from the crash , Brian makes it to shore. The first few days he was relying heavily on
the hope that he would be rescued within a few days. As time went on, his hopes of being found
anytime soon slowly diminished. At first, he struggled to find food and make a shelter. Things came
slow for him, but he was always learning something new. As time goes on, his mindset changes, and
he learns how to hunt fish, find good firewood, and make fires. He creates a spear for jabbing fish, a
bow to hunt with, and a wall of sticks and logs intertwined for walls of a shelter. With his camp
looking well, he goes into a daily routine of getting firewood in the mornings, picking berries, and
catching fish to eat for his outrageous hunger. Once, while bringing back firewood from a

Britain And The American Colonies
There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this
case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious,
economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain
runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americas and by
doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision.
The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take
months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain
developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the
colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this vision
the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s to be used
as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and popularity of
the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate.
The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step to a
new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general
population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started to

Descriptive Essay On Beauty
I had to decorate my head with flowers and was looking exquisite. My father had prohibited me from
using scented perfumes. I also did not have slightest of interest in that. I have been brought up in
nature. Where does beauty live? Is it in jewelry or clothes, in the body, in soul or in the eye of the
beholder? I was wondering.
Four chariots named Rug, Yarju, Sam and Atharva were constructed. The great father Brahma sat on
Rug. Twayi and Anwikshika were sitting in Yarju. Varta and Niti were in Atharva. Yarju was decorated
with beautiful flowers. A drape of flowers covered the front of the chariot. The fourth chariot Atharva
was appearing like a bouquet of red flowers.
I sat in the chariot Sam, which was decorated with vines and fragrant flowers. In front of me, a
garland of white jasmine was hanging. I was bathing with the fragrance of the flowers. My whole
body, my mind, and my soul were all filled with fragrance.
No one could see me from outside the chariot. But, I could see through the vines and thorns. I did not
know the logic behind bringing me to heaven like a prisoner. I was sitting with suppressed curiosity,
but was enjoying the scenery of the Indraloka.
Even though heaven s beauty amazed me, my mind was thinking about my motherland, the earth. My
playground, the elegant forest on the foothills of the Himalayas was no way less beautiful. I could
never accept that my unique mother land is less prosperous than the kingdom of Indraloka. After
attending godhood, it was natural to become a lover of luxury. Hence, the kingdom of gods was so
much a show off. If my motherland was a selfless hermit, the heaven was a hedonist beauty. If the
Indraloka was so attractive, then how attractive Indra would be?
After the discussion, I was supposed to come out of the chariot as if for a display. That time I could
see without any hindrance and Indradeva could also see me.
I remembered my first encounter with Indra. He was visiting my father in the ashram. His chariot was
in the garden and I sat in it pretending to navigate it. As soon as I saw him returning to the chariot, I
got scared. I slipped and fell while descending from the chariot and twisted my feet. I did not cry.
Indradeva was already there. Before he

The Role of Children s Books in Education Essay
From the time a child is born, the task of the parents and society is to educate that child. If a child has
no learning they will not survive. Parents are responsible for give a child the learning that they need.
Since no one parent or person can correctly show children all things and since children need some
entertaining people have taken the opportunities to put together books and children s programs to aid
in the education of the children.
From parent seminars, to books and movies, to even games consoles, children are not only being
taught the basic concepts of the world, shapes, colors, language, but they are also being taught the
norms and values of a particular society. This essay will look into what the children s materials of ...

Most children s material used Bible stories and life lessons to give children the lessons of life. Books
like Aesop s Fables2 and Children s Stories of the Bible3 children are taught things such as
perserverance, hard work, patience, and obedience. Aesop s Fables teach children important lessons
about how to live their lives. The stories vary from The Hare and the Tortoise, to Briar Rabbit, and
The Ant and the Grasshopper. each of these stories are presented to children to teach them the lesson
of perserverance by seeing how the tortoise never gave up and because of the haughtiness and pride of
the hare, the tortoise won the race. The child that hears or reads this story may not realize that they are
being taught lessons, but they will still begin to learn that pride and haughty attitudes will cause them
to lose things that are important, while perseverance will lead to gain. obediences the other stories
teach respect for others things, that disobedience will lead to trouble, and that hard work will take you
further than laziness. Similarly, the Children s Stories of the Bible, which used to be a staple in most
schools and homes, teaches the stories of the Bible characters, but also teaches the values that are
taught in the stories. This book teaches the story of David and Goliath. Not only does it tell about how
David did an amazing feat by defeating the giant but also teaches children to stand up

The Fascination Effects Of Music On The Human Mind
The Fascination Effects of Music on the Human Mind; Framing Intuition and Perception
From ancient times, music has held great importance to cultures all over the world. Music remains one
language that is ever evolving; it refuses to die away. From that day almost 40,000 years ago, one of
the first musicians picked up a vulture s bone and decided to make a flute out of it, till this day, music
has held a power that no other language will ever hold. The importance of music has indeed waxed
greater and greater through the centuries. From its use for story telling, ceremonial purposes, social
and religious practices, etc, there has been a great expansion of its uses. Majority of the masses do not
realize this, but music has become an unavoidable part of our daily lives. With its use in movies,
advertisement, shopping centers, elevators, buses, etc, not a day goes by without each person hearing
some kind of music. As its forms have expanded so have its uses. Its undeniable effects over the
human mind have not gone unrecognized by researchers and scientists. Music is a much more
extremely powerful tool than the masses realize, it has the ability to influence and frame one s
decisions, intuition, mood, interpretation and overall perception of things. It s constant use in
advertisement and film sheds a great deal of light on this. With the countless numbers of research and
experiments used to prove this fact, it is no wonder advertisers and movie makers have capitalized on
it.

is employed or unemployed. If a person works at least one hour per week for pay or at least 15 hours
per week as an unpaid worker in a family business, that person is counted as employed. If the person

The Benefits of the Atkins Diet Essay
The Benefits of the Atkins Diet
The Atkins diet has been attacked in recent years and been accused of being a fad diet that does not
successfully cause weight loss and is the causes of health problems. The most criticized area of the
Atkins diet is the seemingly unlimited amount of fat and meat that is allowed within the diet. This
unconventional method of weight loss is the center of the animosity towards the Atkins diet. Though
this diet may not be the best method of weight loss for all dieters, it is beneficial and extremely
efficient for others. The Atkins diet is the best choice for dieters looking to lose a few superficial
pounds quickly because dieters on the Atkins diet lose more weight within 3 6 months and do not ...

The high fat content of the diet has caused many opponents of the Atkins diet to jump to the
conclusion that it must cause heart disease. This has been found to be completely untrue. In fact,
research from the New England Journal of Medicine found that several heart disease indicators
actually improved for those on the Atkins diet. They found an increase in serum triglyceride levels and
serum HDL (the good cholesterol) that was greater than those on the low fat diets. They also found
that both diets saw similar decreases in LDL (the bad cholesterol). Therefore, those on the Atkins diet
had a higher increase in good cholesterol that benefits the heart and the same amount of reduction in
bad cholesterol as the low fat diet. Though it would seem intuitively correct to assume that a diet that
is high in fat would cause heart disease, studies have proven that the Atkins diet is actually beneficial
to the heart.
In addition to being beneficial to the heart, the Atkins diet is very successful in losing weight
compared to low fat diets. Several studies have found that after six months those on the low
carbohydrate diets (like the Atkins diet) lost 3.9 kilograms (8.6 pounds) more weight than the low fat
diet group. However, these same studies found that after the participants were on the diets for twelve
months, there was no significant difference in the amount of weight that was lost. This supports the
idea that the Atkins diet is better for

Essay On The Night Of The Broken Glass
The Night of the Broken Glass signified a turning point for the Jews, it was the first time they realized
they were no longer safe under Hitler s regime. Hitler began enacting anti semitic laws in 1933, but it
wasn t until now serious violence was occurring against Jews. During the uncontrolled riots on that
traumatic night, over 100 Jews lost their lives, there was more than 30,000 Jews arrested and sent to
jails or concentration camps, 2,000 Jewish community buildings and synagogues were destroyed, and
over 7,500 Jewish stores were looted (Schwartz 50). There was nothing left for the Jews, everything
was destroyed. This was the first time Jews realized the severity of their situation and knew they had
to start taking measures to ensure their family s safety.
On the verge of WWII 10,000 Jewish children left their homes, their families, and their childhoods
behind. On November 21st 1938 British Parliament took action by allowing Jewish children from
Germany to come to England. Members of the British Parliament wanted to take action because they
were horrified by the Nazis actions. They wanted to help the Jews, but many concerns arose from the
citizens. Citizens were worried the mass income of refugees would hurt the economy, take jobs, and
require public support (Holtman 107). In order to eliminate these issues it was decided that only
children were going to be allowed into the country. Children were more adaptable, they could be
taught to fit in with the customs and learn

Holes Changer My Reading Perspectiveby Louis Sachar
I remember like it was yesterday, my cousin and I was riding in the car with my uncle on our way to
the movies, extremely excited to see the newest Disney movie, Holes. We had been watching previews
and trailers for weeks, and it turned out to be just as good as we had imagined. It ended up being one
of my favorite films of all time. I watched it multiple times when it started to come on television. I
bought the DVD and then when I was 10 or 11 in the 5th grade I discovered there was a book. I
always had problems when it came to reading, and in 5th grade, all the teachers came together and
presented to the entire 5th grade class a time during the day called DEAR. DEAR is an acronym that
stands for Drop Everything and Read . I had problems when it came to reading. Not because it was
hard, but because I was lazy.
I was never comfortable reading and now the 5th grade teachers expected me to read during DEAR
session. We had to finish the book about a months time then have a short quiz on it. I could barely
pass the quiz because the entire second half of it would be incorrect because I would not be done with
the book. Then one day my teacher, Mr. Johnson stood at the front of the class like he did after every
book quiz and said, Okay class, our next book will be Holes by Louis Sachar . I immediately raised
my hand and excitedly asked, Like Holes the movie? And it was. For the first time, I was ready to
read. The story Holes was about a young man, Stanley Yelnats whose

Beowulf Versus Batman
Beowulf vs Batman Beowulf was the first superhuman ever to be written about; he s basically the
great grand father of all modern day fictional heroes. But does that mean that all heroes are modeled
exactly like Beowulf? Well, let s take a look at Batman whose known by every kid and adult out there.
He like Beowulf had years of rigorous training in order to become too strong muscular hero that we
see; and that is where they split apart Beowulf s and Batman s back stories are as different as their
personalities. In the end though everyone comes to the point where they realize that they aren t as
young as they used to be and with their line of work it can come quick and fast. So as they re final act
they name a successor to protect the people in their charge. These heroes both protect people but they

In Vitro Fertilization Research Papers
Human reproduction is as ancient a topic as any on the plant, and has been around since time began.
Childlessness has plagued mankind for years, it has risen from 1 in 10 (1970) couples were childless
to 1 in 5 (2010) as reported by the Pew Research Center. Adoption was once the only answer for a
childless couple but with methods such as artificial insemination and other fertility treatments, which
the scientific community has developed a couple now has more options to choose from. Artificial
insemination was first used in 1884, and impregnating a woman through what is known as artificial
insemination, was first used in 1884 (The Medical World: 163 164). Fertility treatments continued to
be developed. In 1906 Surgeon Robert Tuttle Morris witnessed the only successful ovarian
transplantation from healthy women to infertile women. In vitro fertilization (IVF) produced the world
s first test tube baby born on July 25, 1978 (The Medical World:, pg. 223). This procedure is done by
removing the egg(s) from a woman and placing them with sperm and a fluid medium to fertilize in a
laboratory 2 6 days then transferred to a woman s uterus to establish a successful pregnancy. In 2010,
the physiologist, Robert G. Edwards, who developed the IVF treatment, was awarded the Nobel Prize
in Physiology or Medicine. Concerns about the possibility of women being used as baby factories was
raised by Pope John Paul but He also refused to condemn the parents of the child (Prospettive nel

Media s Perception Of Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery has been a hot button issue in recent years because of the debate of how far procedures
can and should go. TV shows like Botched highlight how plastic surgeries can go wrong and make
someone look fake, but that is a rarer scenario than media perceives it to be. Because of media s
prevalence in our lives, we see plastic surgery as fake and those who seek it faker. Not all the people
who seek plastic surgery are doing it in vain. They are seeking to better themselves. The truth is media
pushes a negative impact on the perception of plastic surgery and hides the benefits plastic surgery can
have.
Celebrities like Ariel Winter from ABC s Modern Family face ridicule within the plastic surgery
debate as described by Winter in an interview with Glamour magazine. Winter, at the age of 17, faced
societal pressure to do something about her size F breasts (Radloff 1). Winter described her situation
in the eye of the media as having so little to wear that s age appropriate which would lead to backlash
for dressing too maturely in form fitting clothes (qtd. in Radloff 3). Social media has its own mockery.
Winter described it as The Internet bullies are awful. I could post a photo where I feel good, and 500
people will comment about how fat I am and that I am disgusting (qtd. in Radloff 3). Winters felt as
though the media targeted her based off of her appearance rather than her accomplishments as a young
actress (qtd. in Radloff 4). This behavior by media is troublesome because it leads to people outside of
high publicity criticizing themselves and others based off of appearance, not character.
People in high publicity positions are shamed by media outlets for even discussing the idea of a
cosmetic procedure. Joan Kron, director and producer of the documentary about plastic surgery and
comediennes Take My Nose ... Please! talks about why celebrities are not quick to share their plastic
surgery in an interview with the New York Post. Kron says that Throughout history, people have
devalued those who ve had plastic surgery and discusses how this negative connotation leads
celebrities to credit their new appearance to diets and exercise rather than plastic surgery (qtd. in

Overpopulation And The Future Improvement Of Society By...
The topic of overpopulation has different perspectives regarding whether or not it is happening as well
as its apparent effects of both the environment and its inhabitants. The idea of human overpopulation
being a problem most clearly begins around the time of Thomas Robert Malthus publishing of An
Essay on the Principle of Population as It Affects the Future Improvement of Society, with Remarks
on the Speculations of Mr. Godwin, M. Condorcet, and Other Writers. In his writing, Malthus
describes how the growth of the human population will always outgrow the resources required to
maintain it. The increase of population will take place, if unchecked, in a geometric progression, while
the means of subsistence will increase in only an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Dr. Calhoun s study on rat populations have given us an idea of the psychological effects
of overpopulation. Regardless of the conclusion given after the Horrific Experiment , there would
opposers of the beliefs that keep the debate well alive in the communities that involve themselves in it.
As mentioned previously, the study done by Dr. Calhoun was described by Scotty Hendricks in the
author s Think Big article. The rats in the Universe 25 experiment could allow for another aspect of
the effects of overpopulation to be considered. With the only limiting factor of the growing rat
population being living space, there was a conclusion met as well as an interpretation of how this
could connect to our society as human beings. He suggested that the constant interaction between the
mice could have been a probable cause for the increase in violence in the society. With the regulation
of social interaction being done to reduce the amount a rat makes contact with another, there was a
decrease in the effects of the population boom. The author would then inquire: ...is our own version of
Universe 25 right around the corner? No, says Dr. Calhoun. Yes, says anybody who complains about
people being on their phones too often, or that modern life is too narcissistic...will Dr. Calhoun be
proven correct that mankind has enough creativity and ability to avoid the first death?

Gia s Addiction to Heroine
Thus far, throughout the semester, I have gained so much awareness and understanding for those
whom are struggling with substance misuse. Addiction has played a major role in my immediate
family life. Over the years, I have realized that addiction does not discriminate on a basis of race,
gender, or social status. Based on my personal experiences, the perspective I have of addiction is that
it is like a disease. It does not just affect the individual; it also affects everyone the individual comes
into contact with. Addiction overall, is not just associated with drugs and alcohol, it is present with
gambling, Internet use, sex, or even food (Van Wormer, 2013). In order to understand an individual
who suffers from substance misuse, a therapist must first know the definition of addiction, be able to
asses and diagnose a client with an addiction, explore the bio psychosocial spiritual aspects of their
addiction, laws and ethics related to their addiction, and provide the proper treatment that will help
them to recover. Throughout this paper, from a bio psychosocial spiritual perspective, I plan to explore
the causes of Gia s addiction to Heroin. In addition, I will examine my personal perspective on
addiction and what treatment interventions and laws and ethics might come into play in therapy with
Gia. Overall, I hope to provide Gia with an understanding of her addiction and provide the proper
treatment on her road to recovery.

Alex Williams Argument Analysis
A strong written argument is supported by several methods that are used to legitimize the author s
position as well as to discredit any counterargument brought forth. The techniques include introducing
a counterargument and weakening it s position with evidence. Providing legitimate academic research
such as statistics as well as anecdotes from scholars on the given subject can reinforce the author s
argument. Another important method used is requiring the reader to critically think about a subject
brought forth by challenging their preconceived ideas about a topic. This may also include using
hidden assumptions that use implicit statements which have a certain opinion such as If I follow the
rules, good things will happen , this is common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The syntax that he uses may be more informal instead of formal academic language. He also uses
good organizational structure to support his argument. He frequently initiates a new idea with a hook
to get the readers attention or a transitionary phrases to segway into new ideas which makes the
reading flow well. Then the idea is supported by either an anecdote from people or scholars that were
interviewed or a statistic. This helps make his reasoning come across as persuasive and maybe bring
resemblance to the readers own experiences that they can relate

Descriptive Essay About Rock
One fine, beautiful morning, just as the Sun was rising, Steven hopped out of bed, and went directly to
the place he always goes. The Sunset Beach. Everything was great, but then, his day, no, his life took a
very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with his parents for the
majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark brown eyes, and dusty
blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it doesn t bother him all that
much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or turn to one of his hobbies.
One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks.
Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like he
did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey Stone. He
did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he know that in a
few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever holds the magical
Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. This trip starts their life everyday, and
then one day ends it in a heartbeat. This rock fast forwards through the life of the person that has
possession of it, and continues to until one day it thinks they have lived long enough, and they die.
The scary part is, they never know which day they will be gone forever. Eventually, Steven arrived

Social Media Oxymoron
The Social Media Oxymoron Social Media might be the best worst thing to ever happen to our current
times. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share
content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or
business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent
times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and
Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can
communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social
applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our
times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news
and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? Social media is becoming an
important part of life online as social websites and applications generate more of a following. Most
social media sites include components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is
used to promote products, promote brands, connect to current customers and create new business.
Customers can use social media sites to offer ideas for future products or the improvement of old
ones. On the other hand, the integration of social media in the business world can also caused

Asthma Poor Mental Health
This article is about how poor mental health might be able to boost asthma risk. Brown University
researchers reported that people who rated their mental health as poor were more likely to have
asthma than those who said their mental health was good. Lead researcher Dr. Thomas Chun, an
assistant professor of emergency medicine said that a person should be treated for asthma and mental
health problems if they have both of those conditions. Chun also noted that even if they can t prove
the two are related, it is important to treat them both. If one condition is improved then the other might
improve too. The study was published in the December 2008 issue of Chest. Chun s team collected

anxiety, and panic disorders. She said both prevalence of asthma and worse asthma outcomes do that.
She said people who are stressed out don t really take good care of themselves, like when people are
depressed, they stop caring about their health and make bad choices. Lavoie also said that maybe

Pelvising Position
Proper positioning of patient is one of the most significant components of physical therapy. Safe and
comfortable position is recommended by health care professional. This process should apply
immediately after accident and continue during all phases of recovery. Suitable positioning assists in
stimulating motor function, raises sensory awareness, improve respiration and can help normal range
of motion in trunk and extremities. One of the most important effects of positioning is to prevent
pressure ulcers. Mostly patients lie on back, involved side of non affected side. The body points that
should be considered are shoulder and pelvis. Gluteus maximus and rhomboid muscles become stiff

if the effort put in would equal the benefits. When looking at this it is evident that much more research

Introduction As the world becomes more engrained with technology. The growing threats and security
vulnerabilities propose a great concern to keep our digital information private and out of the hands of
thieves, hackers, and abusers. According to David Donahoo quoted in the Liberty Journal, The more
information that is available in the cyber world, the larger the pie becomes as far as a cyber criminal is
concerned. (Menard, 2015) In other words, information security is becoming a vital intrinsic absolute
when we consider the luxury our technology has brought us on a daily basis. More so, in the spiritual
sense the biblical doctrine of sanctification also plays a vital role in the health of our own spiritual
lives. Sanctification as defined by Wayne Grudem, is a progressive work of God and man that makes
us more and more free from sin and like Christ in our actual lives. (Grudem, 1994) With that said,

`` Wrong Headed Victory `` By Michael Le Page
On his journey through his local Wal Mart, Bob stops to examine two ears of corn. The size, price, and
nutrition facts are the same. The only difference between them is on their labelling: Natural and
Genetically Modified. Bob, like many other people, instinctively chooses the natural option without
much thought.
Michael Le Page admits in his article Wrong Headed Victory, that he would unconsciously make the
same choice as Bob. He does not think it should be that way though. Through his article, he
effectively describes how to overcome the opposition of genetically modified food, and not through
the removal of labels.
Le Page s article starts by describing an ideal world, where in which people could always choose if
they wanted to consume genetically modified food products or not. He then argues that this is not a
perfect and ideal world, where billions of people are starving because there is not enough food. Le
Page also pronounces that this number will continue to grow as the earth s population continues to
increase and farming becomes more expensive. He then claims that farming is contributing to global
warming and the world needs a more efficient method of producing food.
Le Page enlightens the reader that the technology needed to accomplish that task already exists
through genetically modified food, but there are multiple reasons why it has not been fully utilized
yet. One of the problems is that the poorer countries do not have the money to afford these better

On Self Respect By Joan Didion
Writer Joan Didion in her essay On Self Respect describes the value of self respect in regards to her
own perspective of what it means. Didion s purpose for this explanatory essay is to explain what self
respect means and its purposes to the intended audience, women. Women are the intended audience
because when this essay was written in the 1960 s, expectations of women were developing in a way
that was no longer related to their roles in society, but their actual character, specifically physical
characteristics and abilities. Didion chooses to write about self respect toward women because of a
personal anecdote mentioned in the text, in which she receives a sudden realization of what self
respect truly means and decides to share it with other struggling women in the 60 s. Didion uses the
rhetorical devices of personal anecdotes, allusions, and repetition in her essay often, which makes her
essay overall strong by punctuating many different meanings of self respect. These rhetorical devices
also give her audience an easier understanding of self respect by providing multiple perspectives and
situations of self respect, allowing the audience to make personal connections with the text. In the
beginning of Didion s essay, she provides a personal anecdote that tells about her own experience of
self respect. She begins by stating how innocence ends when one is stripped of the delusion that one
likes oneself , stripped away from a fake self respect for oneself (215). She then moves to the
anecdote, which is a past experience of her not being elected to Phi Beta Kappa , the oldest honor
society in the United States (215). She talks about how this specific failure could have been more
predictable or less ambiguous because she simply did not have the grades, but she was oblivious to the
outcome due to having a fake self respect by expecting herself to qualify for the society at high
expectations with abysmal grades. Didion uses this anecdote to provide a basis of her credibility and
understanding of the subject of self respect through a personal experience. This anecdote reveals a
meaning of what fake and true self respect is in her personal life, allowing the audience a chance to
relate to Didion s

The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism
Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial topic in
psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the two and
chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to identify the
main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism and Asperger
syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger syndrome should be
categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple scholars have come upon
differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of the two disorders which either
agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived from Hans Asperger who is highly
recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many scholars had described as not
diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To understand the standoff between
autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the common basis of the two disorders as
provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed as the parent disorder that may give rise to
Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising
from genetic factors. Additionally, it is developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently
depending on factors such as ability or age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a

the documentary offers a unique observance of landscape through its incorporation of moving images

Throughout the entire film, the unknown audience follows along with the story of the Buena Vista
Social Club through a concert that Brian Davis would describe as a contact zone, which is a social
place where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other (Davis 84). In this interaction the Buena
Vista Social Club serves as the center, while the audience serves as the periphery that is receiving
ideas, images, and materials from the center through the lyrics of the song and music being played by
the instruments (Davis 83). Most of the songs that Buena Vista Social Club perform are centered
around the day to day struggles and celebrations of the people of Havana, whether that be a city
dweller or a campesino. The performance by the group is thus an auditory landscape of the true
lifestyle of the Havana natives and it is inherently an exhibit to the outsider of the crumbled landscape
of 1950s Havana that was reconstructed through the Buena Vista Social Club musical project.

The Canadian Corps and CEF
The Confederation took place in 1867, and the Canadian Expeditionary Force(CEF) was raised in
1914. The CEF is what protects what the Confederation created, and would not the nation s greatest
achievement be protecting that which the nation created. Canada did not enter the war of its own
accord but was automatically at war when Britain declared war against Germany. Canada entered the
war to stand by its mother country, to protect the country who founded it. The Canadian Corps and
CEF were created to defend Canada, and fought not only in the war but for the recognition that
Canada deserved, to then show that in the Great War we achieved something great, and finally to piece
together to how Canada is now, to build through the years and show that this was truly Canada s
greatest achievement.
The Canadian Corps and CEF were formed to protect Canada in times of war. The Canadian Corps
was formed as an operational force in France and Flander s Field in 1914. Collectively every troop
that were deployed were referred to as the Canadian Corps. The Canadian Corps was sent out in 3
divisions, the first sent to England in 1914 and trained on the Salisbury Plain and then crossed over to
France to join the war. The second division was formed in 1915 and immediately sent over to France.
The third was a fully manned and equipped combat division disbanded at the end of the First World
War. These divisions were each sent out as a small operational force that defended Canada. However

Essay about Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
According to one of rational choice theory s prominent and more thoughtful contemporary exponents,
Peter C. Ordeshook, four books mark the beginning of modern political theory: Anthony Downs s An
Economic Theory of Democracy (1957), Duncan Black s Theory of Committees and Elections (1958),
William H. Riker s A Theory of Political Coalitions (1962), and James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock
s The Calculus of Consent (1962). These volumes, along with Kenneth Arrow s Social Choice and
Individual Values (1951), began such a wealth of research that political scientists today have difficulty
digesting and synthesizing all but small parts of it. Consequently, the full value of this research often

First I will provide an overview of what rational choice theory is and why it has staked such a
prominent position in the discipline of political science. In this section I conclude that rational choice
theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave.
Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and
collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately
account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is
the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some
refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but
not universalist) political science.
What is Rational Choice Theory?
Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its
variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its
implementation in political science. Therefore public choice theory, positive political science, rational
actor models, and the economic approach to politics, among others, refer to what we may call rational
choice theory for the purposes of this essay. (See Green and Shapiro 1994, xi.

Corruption Of Power In Macbeth
Power gives people the ability to control and influence. It is held and used in many ways, significant
and insignificant, for justice, mercy or desire. Because of its ability to give people what they want,
power tempts people into doing the unthinkable in order to acquire it. Power itself is uncorrupted, only
tainted and weaponised by those who hold it. In Shakespeare s Macbeth and Suzanne Collins Hunger
Games: Mocking Jay Part Two, manipulation and suggestion are shown to corrupt power and
contribute to its use in the name of evil. Through a comparison of literary devices in Macbeth and
Mockingjay Part Two , humanity s corruption of power will be explored and unveiled
In Macbeth manipulation is a tool for lady Macbeth to tempt Macbeth into doing evil to gain power.
Derogatory language in the line and live a coward in thine on esteem reveals lady Macbeth s attempt
to manipulate her husband through his own ego. Macbeth at the beginning of the play is a man who
takes pride in bravery. Through referring to him as the opposite of brave for not wanting to murder
Duncan, she is using his ego to lead him into doing what she wants. By manipulating Macbeth s ego,
she gains power over him, as well as the whole of Scotland after Duncan s murder. Using
manipulation to gain power over someone and tempt them into murder is not unique to Macbeth
In Mockingjay, President Snow manipulates Katniss into killing coin, gaining power over her
decisions through suggestion. Repetition in the line I ve been watching you, and you me emphasises
Snow s self perceived similarity to Katniss in that they were both distracted with each other while a
common enemy was in power. Snow suggesting that Katniss is powerless under somebody who is evil

thought of Coin as an enemy who should not have power until it was suggested to her. Snow did this
intentionally so that he could eliminate coin and hope to turn the attention away from himself.

African-American Values
I ve been raised in North Bethesda, a city inside of Montgomery County my whole life . A county that
values education and success more than most things, and rightfully so. To live in this county you have
to have money and to have money you must be successful, and also to be able to have the things you
want , such as a nice car, nice houses, nice clothes and local and clean grocery stories, etc. that they
have here. It motivates and instills values on us to try our hardest and make the most out of school as
possible to get a job that will help us and our community in the future. Which is why I see myself as
an educated , adventurous , and hungry for success. My dad is from Cameroon, which is a country in

If there is a problem a firm should always communicate with the supplier to look at the problem and
solve it together instead of assuming who is fault the problem is. If Kevin did not talk to the supplier,
the firm would find another supplier and the problem still not solved. Therefore, a good customer will
always communicate and find a solution to any problem.

Language in Jamaica Kincaid s Autobiography of My Mother...
Use of Language in The Autobiography of My Mother
Language. It is the way words flow into sentences, which flow into paragraphs, which flow into
novels. It is the ability of the author to create an intricate web of plot, emotion, symbolism, and
relationships through only words. In The Autobiography of My Mother , Jamaica Kincaid uses
language in a way that is very simplistic, yet highly effective. Her writing is direct and to the point.
There is neither flowery wording not complex sentence structure. Without the distractions of
overflowing language, the depth of Kincaid s material comes through with particular effectiveness. It
is the simplest of writing elements, that of repetition and opposition, that Kincaid uses to create a ...

Xuela is seen as she wants to be seen. There is no objectivity. The only way the reader comes to know
and understand Xuela is through her own words and her descriptions of the world around her (Schine
5).
Another distinctive aspect of Kincaid s writing is the author s relentless use of repetition. It is hard to
find even a single page of the novel that is not deeply woven with repetition. The phrases I know and I
did not know constantly resonate throughout the novel. As Xuela comments on her father, That I was a
burden to him, I know; that he did not know how to take care of me by himself, or how to clean his
own clothes himself, I know (Kincaid 4). Xuela defines herself by what it is that she knows and what
it is she does not know. For her, there is no median. Xuela says she would rather be all dead or all
alive, but never half of one and half of the other (106). Those around her are either kind or unkind;
they are native, or they are foreign; they are sensual, or they are repulsive. It is one way, or the other.
There is no gray area. Kincaid uses the repetition to emphasize this polarizing characteristic of Xuela.
However, it is the things that Xuela does not know that are truly definitive of her nature. She
comments:
At that moment there were so many things I did not know, not including the big thing I did not know,
my mother. I did not know my father; I did not know where he was from or whom or what he

Us Economic Health Case Study
In examining the United States economic health, it is important to consider the current account
deficits. The question as to whether or not the United States can run the current deficit accounts
indefinitely. Looking at the EU and its balance of payments, the question arises again as to whether or
not they can maintain the deficits they are experiencing, indefinitely. Globally speaking, the United
States does hold a unique position, but does that position allow the country the ability to consistently
run the deficits it currently maintains.
Current state of US Economic Health
The United States has seen a growth in the deficit beginning in 1991. The deficit equated to 3.6% of
the GDP in 1999 and rose to 4.4% during 2000. For instance, ... Show more content on

These countries are now facing great recessions and austerity as a result of these debts. Because Italy,
Belgium and Greece are experiencing fiscal correction, the battle is far from over. Many other
members of the EU will need to build up their fiscal surplus to counterbalance the vast debt that has
been accumulated. The EU is really no different that the U.S. in that it needs to place full attention on
its crisis and correct the situation immediately. Europe has crumbled more than the U.S. has as a result
of the crisis. Europe is more segregated than the U.S. and doesn t offer the same stability for foreign

Political System And Interest Groups
1 Do you feel it is beneficial that we have countless interest groups and that they have an enormous
influence in our political system: I do not think that it is beneficial at all. In general, interest groups are
run by few people that just look for more profit. The ultimate goal is to get more money and it is not a
surprise that they put everything that they have in their hands in order to have new laws and programs
that could benefit them. Clear examples are drug and health companies, they control the supply of
medicine and the medical services, what result in exorbitant prices that are just affordable for some
people. 2 Do interest groups end up helping the powerful segments of society at the expense of the
collective good or not? That

Spiritual Deja Vu and Our Soul From Reincarnation
Apparently, there are two worlds that people all live in everyday and their minds are thinking about a
lot constantly no matter what they are doing. So therefore resources came to realize that not only the
minds process things, but also give illusions of maybe what either what is in the past and sometimes
what the future may bring. According to Snider (2007), All around us are evidences of reincarnation:
in the cycles of life, the fate of human beings, pivotal instances that can stop us in our tracks, or just
the whispers of truth that run through us all, (The Journal of Spirituality and Paranormal Studies, The

Here and Now, There and Then, both dreams and Deja vu experiences happen in non normal states of
consciousness. When someone has a déjà vu, it goes back to long term memories, and the brain goes
to process that we get to relive them. Déjà vu is a memory process which is located in a part of our
brain called the cerebral cortex located in the frontal lobe known as the prefrontal cortex. This part is

  • 4. Britain And The American Colonies There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious, economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americas and by doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision. The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this vision the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s to be used as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and popularity of the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate. The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step to a new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started to create a ... I also did not have slightest of interest in that. I have been brought up in nature. Where does beauty live? Is it in jewelry or clothes, in the body, in soul or in the eye of the beholder? I was wondering. Four chariots named Rug, Yarju, Sam and Atharva were constructed. The great father Brahma sat on Rug. Twayi and Anwikshika were sitting in Yarju. Varta and Niti were in Atharva. Yarju was decorated with beautiful flowers. A drape of flowers covered the front of the chariot. The fourth chariot Atharva was appearing like a bouquet of red flowers. I sat in the chariot Sam, which was decorated with vines and fragrant flowers. In front of me, a garland of white jasmine was hanging. I was bathing with the fragrance of the flowers. My whole body, my mind, and my soul were all filled with fragrance. No one could see me from outside the chariot. But, I could see through the vines and thorns. I did not know the logic behind bringing me to heaven like a prisoner. I was sitting with suppressed curiosity, but was enjoying the scenery of the Indraloka. Even though heaven s beauty amazed me, my mind was thinking about my motherland, the earth. My playground, the elegant forest on the foothills of the Himalayas was no way less beautiful. I could never accept that my unique mother land is less prosperous than the kingdom of Indraloka. After attending godhood, it was natural to become a lover of luxury. Hence, the kingdom of gods was so much a show off. If my motherland was a selfless hermit, the heaven was a hedonist beauty. If the Indraloka was so attractive, then how attractive Indra would be? After the discussion, I was supposed to come out of the chariot as if for a display. That time I could see without any hindrance and Indradeva could also see me. I remembered my first encounter with Indra. He was visiting my father in the ashram. His chariot was in the garden and I sat in it pretending to navigate it. As soon as I saw him returning to the chariot, I got scared. I slipped and fell while descending from the chariot and twisted my feet. I did not cry. Indradeva was already there. Before he ... • 10. The Benefits of the Atkins Diet Essay The Benefits of the Atkins Diet The Atkins diet has been attacked in recent years and been accused of being a fad diet that does not successfully cause weight loss and is the causes of health problems. The most criticized area of the Atkins diet is the seemingly unlimited amount of fat and meat that is allowed within the diet. This unconventional method of weight loss is the center of the animosity towards the Atkins diet. Though this diet may not be the best method of weight loss for all dieters, it is beneficial and extremely efficient for others. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high fat content of the diet has caused many opponents of the Atkins diet to jump to the conclusion that it must cause heart disease. This has been found to be completely untrue. In fact, research from the New England Journal of Medicine found that several heart disease indicators actually improved for those on the Atkins diet. They found an increase in serum triglyceride levels and serum HDL (the good cholesterol) that was greater than those on the low fat diets. They also found that both diets saw similar decreases in LDL (the bad cholesterol). Therefore, those on the Atkins diet had a higher increase in good cholesterol that benefits the heart and the same amount of reduction in bad cholesterol as the low fat diet. Though it would seem intuitively correct to assume that a diet that is high in fat would cause heart disease, studies have proven that the Atkins diet is actually beneficial to the heart. In addition to being beneficial to the heart, the Atkins diet is very successful in losing weight compared to low fat diets. Several studies have found that after six months those on the low carbohydrate diets (like the Atkins diet) lost 3.9 kilograms (8.6 pounds) more weight than the low fat diet group. However, these same studies found that after the participants were on the diets for twelve months, there was no significant difference in the amount of weight that was lost. Essay On The Night Of The Broken Glass The Night of the Broken Glass signified a turning point for the Jews, it was the first time they realized they were no longer safe under Hitler s regime. Hitler began enacting anti semitic laws in 1933, but it wasn t until now serious violence was occurring against Jews. During the uncontrolled riots on that traumatic night, over 100 Jews lost their lives, there was more than 30,000 Jews arrested and sent to jails or concentration camps, 2,000 Jewish community buildings and synagogues were destroyed, and over 7,500 Jewish stores were looted (Schwartz 50). There was nothing left for the Jews, everything was destroyed. This was the first time Jews realized the severity of their situation and knew they had to start taking measures to ensure their family s safety. On the verge of WWII 10,000 Jewish children left their homes, their families, and their childhoods behind. On November 21st 1938 British Parliament took action by allowing Jewish children from Germany to come to England. Members of the British Parliament wanted to take action because they were horrified by the Nazis actions. They wanted to help the Jews, but many concerns arose from the citizens. Citizens were worried the mass income of refugees would hurt the economy, take jobs, and require public support (Holtman 107). In order to eliminate these issues it was decided that only children were going to be allowed into the country. Holes Changer My Reading Perspectiveby Louis Sachar I remember like it was yesterday, my cousin and I was riding in the car with my uncle on our way to the movies, extremely excited to see the newest Disney movie, Holes. We had been watching previews and trailers for weeks, and it turned out to be just as good as we had imagined. It ended up being one of my favorite films of all time. I watched it multiple times when it started to come on television. I bought the DVD and then when I was 10 or 11 in the 5th grade I discovered there was a book. I always had problems when it came to reading, and in 5th grade, all the teachers came together and presented to the entire 5th grade class a time during the day called DEAR. DEAR is an acronym that stands for Drop Everything and Read . I had problems when it came to reading. Not because it was hard, but because I was lazy. I was never comfortable reading and now the 5th grade teachers expected me to read during DEAR session. We had to finish the book about a months time then have a short quiz on it. I could barely pass the quiz because the entire second half of it would be incorrect because I would not be done with the book. Then one day my teacher, Mr. Johnson stood at the front of the class like he did after every book quiz and said, Okay class, our next book will be Holes by Louis Sachar . I immediately raised my hand and excitedly asked, Like Holes the movie? And it was. For the first time, I was ready to read. The story Holes was about a young man, Stanley Yelnats whose ... Childlessness has plagued mankind for years, it has risen from 1 in 10 (1970) couples were childless to 1 in 5 (2010) as reported by the Pew Research Center. Adoption was once the only answer for a childless couple but with methods such as artificial insemination and other fertility treatments, which the scientific community has developed a couple now has more options to choose from. Artificial insemination was first used in 1884, and impregnating a woman through what is known as artificial insemination, was first used in 1884 (The Medical World: 163 164). • 15. Media s Perception Of Plastic Surgery Plastic surgery has been a hot button issue in recent years because of the debate of how far procedures can and should go. TV shows like Botched highlight how plastic surgeries can go wrong and make someone look fake, but that is a rarer scenario than media perceives it to be. Because of media s prevalence in our lives, we see plastic surgery as fake and those who seek it faker. Not all the people who seek plastic surgery are doing it in vain. They are seeking to better themselves. The truth is media pushes a negative impact on the perception of plastic surgery and hides the benefits plastic surgery can have. Celebrities like Ariel Winter from ABC s Modern Family face ridicule within the plastic surgery debate as described by Winter in an interview with Glamour magazine. Winter, at the age of 17, faced societal pressure to do something about her size F breasts (Radloff 1). Winter described her situation in the eye of the media as having so little to wear that s age appropriate which would lead to backlash for dressing too maturely in form fitting clothes (qtd. in Radloff 3). Social media has its own mockery. Winter described it as The Internet bullies are awful. I could post a photo where I feel good, and 500 people will comment about how fat I am and that I am disgusting (qtd. in Radloff 3). Winters felt as though the media targeted her based off of her appearance rather than her accomplishments as a young actress (qtd. in Radloff 4). This behavior by media is troublesome because it leads to people outside of high publicity criticizing themselves and others based off of appearance, not character. People in high publicity positions are shamed by media outlets for even discussing the idea of a cosmetic procedure. Joan Kron, director and producer of the documentary about plastic surgery and comediennes Take My Nose ... Please! talks about why celebrities are not quick to share their plastic surgery in an interview with the New York Post. Addiction has played a major role in my immediate family life. Over the years, I have realized that addiction does not discriminate on a basis of race, gender, or social status. Based on my personal experiences, the perspective I have of addiction is that it is like a disease. It does not just affect the individual; it also affects everyone the individual comes into contact with. Addiction overall, is not just associated with drugs and alcohol, it is present with gambling, Internet use, sex, or even food (Van Wormer, 2013). • 26. Social Media Oxymoron The Social Media Oxymoron Social Media might be the best worst thing to ever happen to our current times. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? Social media is becoming an important part of life online as social websites and applications generate more of a following. Most social media sites include components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is used to promote products, promote brands, connect to current customers and create new business. Customers can use social media sites to offer ideas for future products or the improvement of old ones. On the other hand, the integration of social media in the business world can also caused ... Brown University researchers reported that people who rated their mental health as poor were more likely to have asthma than those who said their mental health was good. Michael Le Page admits in his article Wrong Headed Victory, that he would unconsciously make the same choice as Bob. He does not think it should be that way though. Through his article, he effectively describes how to overcome the opposition of genetically modified food, and not through the removal of labels. Le Page s article starts by describing an ideal world, where in which people could always choose if they wanted to consume genetically modified food products or not. He then argues that this is not a perfect and ideal world, where billions of people are starving because there is not enough food. Le Page also pronounces that this number will continue to grow as the earth s population continues to increase and farming becomes more expensive. He then claims that farming is contributing to global warming and the world needs a more efficient method of producing food. Le Page enlightens the reader that the technology needed to accomplish that task already exists through genetically modified food, but there are multiple reasons why it has not been fully utilized yet. • 34. On Self Respect By Joan Didion Writer Joan Didion in her essay On Self Respect describes the value of self respect in regards to her own perspective of what it means. Didion s purpose for this explanatory essay is to explain what self respect means and its purposes to the intended audience, women. Women are the intended audience because when this essay was written in the 1960 s, expectations of women were developing in a way that was no longer related to their roles in society, but their actual character, specifically physical characteristics and abilities. Didion chooses to write about self respect toward women because of a personal anecdote mentioned in the text, in which she receives a sudden realization of what self respect truly means and decides to share it with other struggling women in the 60 s. Didion uses the rhetorical devices of personal anecdotes, allusions, and repetition in her essay often, which makes her essay overall strong by punctuating many different meanings of self respect. These rhetorical devices also give her audience an easier understanding of self respect by providing multiple perspectives and situations of self respect, allowing the audience to make personal connections with the text. In the beginning of Didion s essay, she provides a personal anecdote that tells about her own experience of self respect. She begins by stating how innocence ends when one is stripped of the delusion that one likes oneself , stripped away from a fake self respect for oneself (215). She then moves to the anecdote, which is a past experience of her not being elected to Phi Beta Kappa , the oldest honor society in the United States (215). She talks about how this specific failure could have been more predictable or less ambiguous because she simply did not have the grades, but she was oblivious to the outcome due to having a fake self respect by expecting herself to qualify for the society at high expectations with abysmal grades. Didion uses this anecdote to provide a basis of her credibility and understanding of the subject of self respect through a personal experience. This anecdote reveals a meaning of what fake and true self respect is in her personal life, allowing the audience a chance to relate to Didion s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial topic in psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the two and chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to identify the main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism and Asperger syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger syndrome should be categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple scholars have come upon differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of the two disorders which either agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived from Hans Asperger who is highly recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many scholars had described as not diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To understand the standoff between autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the common basis of the two disorders as provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed as the parent disorder that may give rise to Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising from genetic factors. Additionally, it is developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently depending on factors such as ability or age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a ... Throughout the entire film, the unknown audience follows along with the story of the Buena Vista Social Club through a concert that Brian Davis would describe as a contact zone, which is a social place where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other (Davis 84). In this interaction the Buena Vista Social Club serves as the center, while the audience serves as the periphery that is receiving ideas, images, and materials from the center through the lyrics of the song and music being played by the instruments (Davis 83). Most of the songs that Buena Vista Social Club perform are centered around the day to day struggles and celebrations of the people of Havana, whether that be a city dweller or a campesino. The performance by the group is thus an auditory landscape of the true lifestyle of the Havana natives and it is inherently an exhibit to the outsider of the crumbled landscape of 1950s Havana that was reconstructed through the Buena Vista Social Club musical project. The CEF is what protects what the Confederation created, and would not the nation s greatest achievement be protecting that which the nation created. Canada did not enter the war of its own accord but was automatically at war when Britain declared war against Germany. Canada entered the war to stand by its mother country, to protect the country who founded it. The Canadian Corps and CEF were created to defend Canada, and fought not only in the war but for the recognition that Canada deserved, to then show that in the Great War we achieved something great, and finally to piece together to how Canada is now, to build through the years and show that this was truly Canada s greatest achievement. The Canadian Corps and CEF were formed to protect Canada in times of war. The Canadian Corps was formed as an operational force in France and Flander s Field in 1914. Collectively every troop that were deployed were referred to as the Canadian Corps. The Canadian Corps was sent out in 3 divisions, the first sent to England in 1914 and trained on the Salisbury Plain and then crossed over to France to join the war. Consequently, the full value of this research often goes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First I will provide an overview of what rational choice theory is and why it has staked such a prominent position in the discipline of political science. In this section I conclude that rational choice theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave. Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but not universalist) political science. What is Rational Choice Theory? Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its implementation in political science. Therefore public choice theory, positive political science, rational actor models, and the economic approach to politics, among others, refer to what we may call rational choice theory for the purposes of this essay. • 40. Corruption Of Power In Macbeth Power gives people the ability to control and influence. It is held and used in many ways, significant and insignificant, for justice, mercy or desire. Because of its ability to give people what they want, power tempts people into doing the unthinkable in order to acquire it. Power itself is uncorrupted, only tainted and weaponised by those who hold it. In Shakespeare s Macbeth and Suzanne Collins Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part Two, manipulation and suggestion are shown to corrupt power and contribute to its use in the name of evil. Through a comparison of literary devices in Macbeth and Mockingjay Part Two , humanity s corruption of power will be explored and unveiled In Macbeth manipulation is a tool for lady Macbeth to tempt Macbeth into doing evil to gain power. Derogatory language in the line and live a coward in thine on esteem reveals lady Macbeth s attempt to manipulate her husband through his own ego. Macbeth at the beginning of the play is a man who takes pride in bravery. Through referring to him as the opposite of brave for not wanting to murder Duncan, she is using his ego to lead him into doing what she wants. By manipulating Macbeth s ego, she gains power over him, as well as the whole of Scotland after Duncan s murder. Using manipulation to gain power over someone and tempt them into murder is not unique to Macbeth In Mockingjay, President Snow manipulates Katniss into killing coin, gaining power over her decisions through suggestion. Repetition in the line I ve been watching you, and you me emphasises Snow s self perceived similarity to Katniss in that they were both distracted with each other while a common enemy was in power. Snow suggesting that Katniss is powerless under somebody who is evil causes her to seek justice against her oppressor and turn her attention away from Snow. She hadn t thought of Coin as an enemy who should not have power until it was suggested to her. The phrases I know and I did not know constantly resonate throughout the novel. As Xuela comments on her father, That I was a burden to him, I know; that he did not know how to take care of me by himself, or how to clean his own clothes himself, I know (Kincaid 4).
