Dna Sequences Using Polymerase Chain Reaction
Amplification of 16S Ribosomal DNA Sequences using Polymerase Chain Reaction
Edwina Abou Haidar,

Department of Biology, Lebanese American University, Byblos, Lebanon
Abstract The 16s rRNA gene sequencing is a widely common amplicon sequencing method used to
identify and compare bacteria in a given sample. This method is well established and allows to
study phylogeny and taxonomy of complex microbiomes. In this study, an unknown sample of
extracted microbial DNA was analyzed by performing the polymerase chain reaction followed by
agarose gel electrophoresis. The results were accurate since three distinct bands (1500 basepairs)
corresponded to our sample (duplicates) and the positive control. This indicates clearly the
amplification of the 16s rRNA gene whose further sequencing technique constitutes a pivotal tool in
the accurate identification of bacterial isolates as well as the discovery of novel bacteria in clinical
microbiology laboratories.

basis of conventional differentiation between bacterial species are somehow cumbersome, consume
a lot of time and require different approaches [1]. Furthermore, the commercial identification
systems failed to identify commonly encountered bacteria and uncommon isolates. In fact, these

The expected cost synergies (as announced by HP) are approximately $2.5 billion . This amounts
to approximately $0.83 per share in the merged firm. The market value of Compaq at the time
was approximately $21 billion pre merger announcement, meaning that a reasonable price for
Compaq should be $23.5 billion. So the final exchange ratio price of $25 billion includes a
premium of 6.3% or $1.5 billion. Considering that the PC market had matured and was faced with
increasing competition with price undercutting by competitors, the price offered by HP seems
rather optimistic. (Refer to HP Compaq key note slides) пЃ·One of the assumptions is the P/E of

How Did Rodgers And Hammerstein Create A Revolution In...
Rodgers and Hammerstein:
Richard Rodgers was only 16 when he began his musical collaboration with Lorenz Hart. Rodgers
was acting as composer and Hart as lyricist. Manhattan was their first breakthrough in 1925 and
other songs including jazz standards such as Blue moon (1934) and My funny valentine (1937), Isn
t It Romantic? (1932) and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered (1940). Together, Rodgers and
Hart wrote the music and lyrics for 26 Broadway musicals. Which includes: On your toes (1936),
Babes in Arms (1937) and their last collaboration, A Connecticut Yankee (1943).In 1943 their
collaboration ended due to artistic differences and Hart s declining health. Thus the revolution
within Musical theatre started.
Change Slide:
Hammerstein wrote his own play, called The Light (1919) and was produced by his uncle. In
1920, he collaborated with Rodgers and Hart in writing a Varsity show called Fly with Me.Short
after he dropped out of Grad school to pursue a full time career in Musical theatre. Hammerstein
s first success as a librettist was with Wildflower, a collaboration with Otto Harbach produced in
1923. He achieved more success with 1924 s Rose Marie, which he created in collaboration with
Harbach as well as Herbert Stothart and Rudolf Friml. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hammerstein continued to collaborate with Kern on several musicals including Sweet Adeline
(1929), Music in the Air (1932), Three Sisters (1934), and Very Warm for May (1939). In 1943,
he wrote the lyrics and book for Carmen Jones, an updated version of George Bizet s Carmen set
during World War II and featuring an African American cast. The musical was adapted into a 1954

Misconceptions Of Drones
Drones
Turn on the news, and there will be at least one story about drones. Within the last five years,
drones have experienced a massive spike in interest and have been upgraded constantly until they
became state of the art machines. Though drones are one of the most advanced pieces of
technology the world has ever seen, they should not be used by militaries because of the many
problems associated with them, such as limited pilots, innocent victims, and mid flight crashes.
Many people have misconceptions about drones, but they actually are remote controlled aircrafts
that have weapons on them and are used by the military for dangerous aerial attack and
surveillance. They are also called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV s) or remotely piloted... Show

For example, three miles from the Afghan border in Pakistan, 13 militants from Punjab and 5
innocent civilians were killed in a residential compound by a missile from a drone in September
2008 (Khan). The Bureau of Investigative Journalism researched the drones impact on the Middle
East, and it estimated that about twenty five hundred to thirty six hundred people have been
killed [since 2004 in just Pakistan], of which four hundred to nine hundred were civilians and
about two hundred were children (Gale). So many innocent live are being ended while trying to
end a few. There are many other ways to find those certain few people without resorting to
launching a weapon of mass destruction. The Army and Air Force could have a search drone

Xbox Vs Pc Minecraft Research Paper
Xbox vs Pc Minecraft
Minecraft has become very popular during the day and made people have great laughs and

most popular consoles is xbox and PC minecraft. But did you know that they have many
differences? Today you will wonder no longer because you will finally know the differences
between Xbox Minecraft and PC Minecraft. If you played PC minecraft before any other version

It is hard to decide, but most of us argue that the PC is not better than Xbox version minecraft. But
let s talk about why PC minecraft is better than xbox. The most biggest difference for xbox is that it
doesn t have the huge multiplayer option and Minecraft Realm option. In the PC version in
multiplayer you can join minecraft servers where you can play games like sg, skywars,
Factions, and much more games. Another cool thing about multiplayer is that you can get to
know some good online friends and in this server called Mineplex you can do /friend to friend
people so if they re on at some point, you can teleport to them and play with them. Minecraft
realms is where you can do survival or creative or do minigames, and much more cool stuff.
What s even cooler if you get your own minecraft realm you can invite as many people as you
want and you can get to play with them. Xbox multiplayer is up to 4 people and the more people
you have, the shorter each of your screens is and the more lag you get. But if you do online
multiplayer on one of your xbox worlds you can only invite up to 8 people. Xbox is awesome, but

The Rocky Mountain Trail
However, as I led the group north in the direction of our unseen target the trail at times would
blend into the rocky terrain and become challenging to follow. Silhouetted against the grayish
sky to our immediate left were two rock strewn peaks that spiked into view through the thick air
above us. Stemming from the main trail a faint path snaked its way to an area between and below
the peaks and gradually faded into the rugged terrain. From previous expeditions on the Sauk, I
knew the summit trail would continue and circle north on a ridge around a rocky pinnacle directly
above the west face. For a brief moment I was nearly fooled into taking the path even though I felt
a scramble to the summit would be too soon. Feeling uncertain I continued ahead with no summit in
my sights. I made a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voices I heard earlier in the day were a group of five with a couple of canines making their way
up the trail. After a few comments of the rain were exchanged, the group passed to continue their
ten or twelve minute journey to the top. Continuing the descent and rounding the south ridge to the
west side, a second group of three approached on the trail below. In passing, I offered that our time
from the top was approximately twenty minutes at minimum, meaning they at least had twenty to
thirty minutes to the summit. Minutes later the trail delivered us to the familiar rock wall
embedded in the mountain, and it sliced under the rock continuing on a long stretch to the second
switchback leading down. After making the estimated 325 degree turn a third group could be seen
below. The mountain, suddenly becoming crowded, felt as if traversing the switchbacks and
navigating the trail resembled playing chicken with oncoming trekkers. Who has the right of way,

Shift Work Research Article Summary
The article entitled The impact of shift work on nurses job stress, sleep quality and self
perceived health status authors Lin, Liao, Chen, Fan, (2014) explains there is a great concern
about the potential negative impact of shift work on a nurses personal health and performance,
and hence on the quality of patient care. Authors state how nurses must be able to work various
shifts in orders to provide 24 hour care for patients. In order for patients to receive the care
needed, nurses must have flexible work schedules. Shift work is the solution to provide for this
flexibility. This article also explains that twenty percent of shift workers are unable to work, at some
point, due to maladaptation syndrome. A condition involves sleep deprivation and fatigue due to...

The authors speak about how the risk of nursing errors can endanger the safety of patient. In
addition, heavy workloads and working frequent overtime is attributed to poor sleep quality and
results in mental and physical fatigue as well. The article explains that the increased workload is
a result of hospitals cutting cost and reducing the nursing workforce, which in turn severely affect
the quality of patient care provided from nurses. The research conducted was a study with the
criteria of shift work and how it affects nurses. There target population included three shifts
rotations of nurses employed at four regional hospitals over a three month period. They observed
that 82.33% of nurses doing shift work had poor sleep quality. Results were also reviled that
reduced sleep quality among nurses led to fatigue. To improve the quality of patient care, manages
must ensure a healthier work shift schedule to increase personal health status and clinical
performance of nurses. They determined that the quality of patient care directly associated with the
psychological and physical status of

Cyber Attackers Use For Hacking An Organization
Phishing has become one of the most successful methods cyber attackers use for hacking an
organization. It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers
understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain
someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people
pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or
government organization. The attackers do not have a specific target in mind nor do they now
exactly who will fall victim, they simply know the more phishing emails they send out, the more
people they can fool. Their goal is to trick people into providing the phishers with their private
information. 2015 saw an increase of 23% of users opening phishing messages and 11% of users
click on the attachment (Verizon, 2015). Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two
concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by
the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put
invested in technological means. Many organizations use technical means such as filtering
messages, detection of fraudulent websites, and developing anti phishing warning systems
(Egelman et al. 2008). However technical means are incapable of removing the threat of phishing
(Abbasi et al. 2012; Dhamija et al. 2006) because an organizations weakest link, the

How Is Ancient Egypt Different From Our Culture
Did you know that the Egyptians kids were naked untill they were six years old? If you are six
years old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The
Egyptians had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some
examples that were different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men
in working classes wore either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore
straight dresses with one or two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and
by pharaohs. At times Kings and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers.
Another example is the jewelry. Specific materials, colours, and designs were often associated with
certain gods or goddesses or magical qualities of protection. Any changes to these could affect the
spiritual value of the items. Everyone wore jewelry in Ancient Egypt, from poor farmers to wethly
royals. For the wealthy, pieces were made from semi precious ... Show more content on

Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own
hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed
mirrors, hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient
Egyptians wore greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped
perfume on their wigs. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green
paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was
supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a
green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green
paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this
reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore

Apple iPod from Business Perspective Essay
Technology has changed in the terms of portable music and with the invention of the Apple iPod

has developed a device that weighs no more than 6.2 ounces (and as few as 3.6 ounces) and can
hold up to 10,000 songs. Despite the weak market overall, the market for digital mediais undeniably
hot and barring a consumer spending meltdown, it should stay that way. In light of current

Sony will now become a competitor against the original portable device. The difference will be
about $100 $200 higher in price for Sony product; but storage space is higher is this unit. This
fall will bring additional players to the market as a number of companies are introducing their
own versions. Creative Labs will unleash its Zen Portable Media Centre

plays 80 hours of music. At the same time, Samsung will release their version of a portable music
device. Both of those will retail at $499, again higher than the iPod, but with additional features.
September also sees the release of Hewlett Packard s entry into the digital player market with a re
branded version of the iPod. It is rumored to have a 60 GB capacity. (www.technewsworld.com

outdo the other with extra benefits.
Although sales of the iPod have already beat expectations, the reduction in price will create even
more buzz resulting in continued exceeding sales. Like any technological product, the iPod has a
demand that is price elastic. By having the ability to download legal songs within seconds and keep

A Depth Analysis Of Henri Fayol s Perspective On...
Management is one of the most significant factors of production necessary for the realization of a
company s objectives. The number of managers varies from one corporation to another and is
highly dependent on the size of the corporation. The leadership of a company s management is
instrumental as it sets and guides the general direction that the company ought to go. It provides
efficient methods in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods
and services as well as dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the
productivity and competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of
Henri Fayol s perspective on managementin addition to exploring other perspectives employed by
other authors.
Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which
considers management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He
was the first to recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own.
An employee with more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills
(Byrnes 2014, p.81). According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are
planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities
are concerned with formulation of operational plans for the business. His perspective is
administrative in nature aimed at making

The Rabbits-Deconstruction of Visual Essay
John Marsden s and Shaun Tan s epic picture book, The Rabbits , is an allegorical fable about
colonisation, told from the perspective of the natives. An unseen narrator describes the coming of
rabbits in the most minimal detail, an encounter that is at first friendly and curious, but later
darkens as it becomes apparent that the visitors are actually invaders. My chosen image (above),
embodies the overall style of the book which is deliberately sparse and strange. Both text and image
conveys an overall sense of bewilderment and anxiety as native numbat like creatures witness the
environmental devastation under the wheels of a strange new culture, represented by the rabbits.
The image projects a painting of a striking sunset and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This metaphorically suggests that the rabbits have already begun to construct their homes, and now
nobody can stop them. Their forceful invasion into the native indigenous landscape is further
emphasised by the dead lizard featured in the foreground, which has been brutally squashed with
seemingly no remorse. Furthermore, the buildings in the background are entirely formed by
jigsaw pieces. Thus Tan presents us with a visual allegory of the rabbit society as manipulative and
un relentless nature. The small strip across the top of the visual, presents us with an alternate world
that is natural and heaven like where numbat like creatures are suspended upon tree branches. The
gaze of the numbat like creatures leads us to the quote, They didn t live in trees like we did .
Through the inclusion of text Tan portrays that the numbat like creatures don t understand the
rabbits. This quote does not show any strong emotions, but instead the blatant tone bestows a
clueless feeling to us, the responders. This section is very small in contrast to the rest of the image
showing the rabbits. This symbolically represents the unprecedented manner in which the rabbits
came and quickly made their own houses . At observing the picture more closely, we can conclude
that where the numbat like creatures are sitting, the sky is lighter compared to where the rabbits are
placed; implying that the lighter colour is the time the numbat like creatures were familiar

Characterism In The Black Witch By Laurie Forest
The Black Witch, a Novel written by Laurie Forest and published May 2017, attempts to tell a
fictional story about a young girl who confronts racism, elitism, and biasness; and grows into a
hero for not just her people, but of all races. It is meant to be a story of redemption and learning
to trust those she has been raised to hate and fear, a premise in which first intrigued me to
purchase the book, however upon reading it fails to succeed in its mission, thus leaving me
disappointed in the story. While it is the first book in a series, it is my belief that while there
should be some lingering questions that makes a reader want to continue the series, the initial
promise of fully trusting the other races should have been fulfilled. Elloren Gardner is the main
character, and our POV for this story. We first meet her living in a rural town with her uncle and
unaware of her status within her people. Her entire life she is raised with strict religious beliefs,
for which she has no basis to question them. Part of these religious indoctrinations is that her
people are pure and that all other races are evil, a belief she holds strongly to. We are first
introduced to this belief in the very first chapter where Elloren states We Gardnerians are a pure
blooded race, free from the stain of the heathen races that surround us. This ingratiates the reader
that our main character is racist towards the other races that share this fictional world. On initial
reading, I placed this

Mexican Cartels And Its Effects On America
Since the 1900 s Mexico has been run by several drug cartels, and leaders. These drug cartels
have been increasing their territory, murder tolls, and power. The cartels have started to take
over the government and Mexico has been becoming known as a lost state. Drug cartels are
rising to power because of the lack of government, and structure which also brings fear to all the
regular citizens throughout Mexico. Many citizens regularly get murdered for lying to the cartel,
informing the authorities about the cartels, or antagonizing the cartels. Although Mexican drug
cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, their influence has
increased since the demise of the Colombian Cali in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now
dominate the wholesale illicit drug market and in 2007 controlled 90% of the cocaine entering
the United States. Arrests of key cartel leaders, has led to increasing drug violence as cartels
fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. As violence levels rise so do
tension levels. Mexico has always been involved in illegal drug smuggling since the beginning. In
the 1980 s Mexico started off aiding the Colombian organizations in smuggling cocaine into the
U.S. Mexico continued to work for the Colombian organizations, and were paid in cash as well as
percentages for some of the cocaine. The Organizations in Mexico soon became very independent,

Pentecostal/Charismatic background growing up in church, I know a little about the gift. With
growing up in a Charismatic church, I saw the gifts in action. There is a lot of debate on whether
the gift is relevant for today or have they ceased from the church. One side says that the gifts are
in the past and is not relevant for the day that we live in and another side says that the gifts are
still relevant for today. There is one group that says that if you do speak in tongues, then you are

Again we need to look at how the Bible uses these words. In John 17:3 it says that This is eternal
life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (New
American Standard Bible, 1995 revised). In that verse it talks about how having eternal life is
to also knowing God. Also only the believer is known by Jesus (John 10:27; Gal. 4:8 9; Romans
8:29). The unbeliever is not known by Jesus (Matt. 7:21 23). In every verse except for one, God
says that he knows only the believers. Knowing this is a kind of salvation knowing, it is a kind of
knowing that God gives to the Christians. He knows them and knows that they are saved. The
unbelievers are not known and therefore are not saved. It would seem to be consistent with
scripture to say that ...as I m fully known would refer to salvation relationship between the
Christians and Jesus Christ. When the return of Christ comes, we as Christians will see him face to
face. Another argument is that present day tongues are further revelation and then must be equal to
scripture and ought to be included into the Bible. But since the Bible has nothing to add to it, the
gift of tongues must no longer be valid. The problem with this argument is that faulty because
recognizes revelation that cannot be added into the Bible. 1 Cor. 14:26 talks about the church in
Corinth were revelations were revealed that were not included in the Bible. In this verse it

Economics Reflection
. Through the process of reading, I learned many things about the economy. First of all, I learned
that it is a much more difficult decision to come to in regards of how much government
involvement in the nation s economy is enough, how much is too little, and how much is not
enough. I also learned that trying to keep the economy stable and productive is a constant and
difficult struggle, and that it is often difficult to even know what needs to or can be done in order
to stabilize it. While I find economicsto be somewhat boring (I am a music major and largely
emotionally driven, which means that my entertainment is usually emotionally involving
somehow), I actually enjoyed how Wheelan explained economics in this book. While I would not
read it for fun, reading this book as an assignment was not painful.
Having government involved in the economy has its pros and cons. One of the Pros is that the
government can help prevent or discourage harmful behaviors or actions. Government regulation
can prevent man caused shortages. Fishing regulations are often put in place to prevent overfishing.
These regulations prevent or discourage fishermen from fishing too much in one season, which
allows the fish to repopulate and remain available in the future. In the book, Wheelan mentioned
how the government can also tax bad behaviors to encourage behaviors that benefit health and/or
the environment. An example of this is a tax on gasoline and/or larger vehicles, or a tax on
cigarettes.

Critical Analysis Of Frederick Douglass
Would you risk your life to wangle literary even if you were forcibly shackled into slavery? In the
17th century, you would have not even been close to a book. During this time, white colonist forbid
the liberty that slaves could have the qualification to attain literacy fearing that the increase in
literacy will oppose a threat on the institute of slavery, the colonist themselves, and emit true
political sovereignty. As a result of this mental genocide, slaves had been dependent on their
masters. There were exceptions. Slaves were discouraged to acquire critical literacy however,
whites forcibly taught the slaves about Christianity. Frederick Douglass, a notable abolitionist,

Henceforth, this reference discloses that education is essential to restore freedom. Subsequently in
chapter 4, he alludes to a religious/historical reformations occurring in Great Britain, through
Richard Brinsley Sheridan, an Irish dramatist: Catholic emancipation. . Douglass introduces
Sheridan in order to juxtapose the setting of the Irish community to slaves. In Ireland, the Irish
people were oppressed by the Anglicans (Britain s national church) due to religious avidity.
Eventually after the reformation, the Irish citizens had the judgment to choose the Catholic or
Anglican church. As a result, Douglass utilizes historical allusion to foster the ideals of freedom
by giving the slaves an example that they have choices in life (such as being an autodidactic) ,
but they must fight for them. The speaker establishes himself to be convincing to his lesson. We

Gastric Bypass
1. Roux en Y gastric bypass is a special procedure used to treat morbid obesity. Describe in detail
the Roux en Y procedure. The Roux en Y procedure is a laparoscopic form of gastric surgery that
uses trocars to manipulate the stomach. The patient must be positioned supine with their arms
extended outward or in the lithotomy position. This is dependent on where the trocars are
positioned. The surgeon uses monitors to see inside the abdominal cavity and places the trocars a
fist length away from each other. Four 10mm trocars and two 5mm trocars are used for this
surgery. Gastric ligaments are pulled down at the angle of His (Ayloo, 2014). The gastric pouch is
then created by creating a window in the lesser sac (Ayloo, 2014). The stapler is then used to
transect the stomachhorizontally and then vertically at the angle of His .... Show more content on

Next, the omentum and transverse colon are retracted cranially which will expose the ligament of
Treitz and the small bowel and mesentery are then stapled and divided at the jejunum of the
stomach (Ayloo, 2014). The Roux limb of 150 cm is then bypassed into the stomach. Next, the
jejunojejunal anastomosis is completed with the common enterotomy being hand sewn in a bilayer
method (Ayloo, 2014). After this, the mesenteric defect is closed to prevent the formation of
internal hernias and the Roux limb is brought out anticolic and antigastric (Ayloo, 2014). Next the
gastrojejunal anastomosis located between the pouch and the Roux limb is performed in a double
layered method. Gastrotomy and Enterotomy are performed once again. Then, the orogastric tube is
placed through the anastomosis and the anterior layer is closed in a double layered method by
suture. The anastomosis is then tested for any air leakage by submerging it with fluid by irrigation

Beginning the search for my future career, I need something that would challenge me, and
something that would be competitive. Dermatology seemed like the only answer. Along the

Reflection Of The Indian Residential Community
What does it mean when, in a room full of young and aspirational leaders, not one individual
identifies as Indigenous? It s a sign of privilege. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who
is invited to the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history
of socialized understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes
to rewrite this history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of
reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understandingand respect (CC).
This hope is encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian
Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). It is important because it calls to action the ways in which non
Aboriginal people think, perceive history, and understand difference (CC). With its inclusion of 94
calls to action, I am left wondering if these calls will be answered and by who. As both LaBoucane
and Stonehouse expressed, it s not just an Indigenous issue but a shared history (2017). This history
that is not well understood by many including myself. Therefore, I write this reflection with the
intent of exploring what my role is in terms of two areas; thought and action.
Thought implies the internal conversation I have with myself regarding my own beliefs and those I
hold for others. Often, these thoughts are

Black Elk Is A Native American Spiritual Leader Of The...
Black Elk Speaks is a translated Autobiography of a verbal account from Nicholas Black Elk, who
was a Native American spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe during the period of westward expansion
by the United States. His account reveals to the audience many different aspects of life for the
Lakota people during the turbulent transition from their traditional nomadic tribal to a reservation
culture. Through Black Elks life story, there are a plethora of small hints and glimpses of their
world, in how it functions and how their culture governs the choices that they make in their lives.
The best example that Black Elk provides the audience with, is the vision that he describes in
Chapter 3, The Great Vision (17 36). This Vision occurs when Black Elk is a young person of
the age of nine. The events preceding the vision describes his life of that time, until he seems to
fall severely ill from some unknown disease, to the point that he requires the assistance of a
pony drag in order to remain with the tribe as they travel from location to location. In this state
he is given a vision from the forces that control the world. Various images, figures and forces lead
Black Elk along a journey of discovery, where the fate of his life, the Lakota people and gifts are
presented to him. This great vision remains the driving force behind Black Elk s life for the
remainder of the book.
The question arises; What makes this vision so important for Black Elk and the narrative of the
book?

The Giants have been one of the best teams in baseball for a few years now and it sure didn t

Since the Giants have been able to succeed at the highest level in the postseason for the times
that they have gone to the postseason in the most recent year, if they can make it into the
playoffs, count on them to be a factor. The biggest problem that they are going to have to face is
their last regular season series against the Dodgers. The Dodgers have risen to the occasion
since the end of the first half of the season and have played almost as well as the Cubs. The Wild
Card race will most likely come down to the final series of the regular season and that series with
the Dodgers will determine their fate. The Dodgers will be starting two of their best pitchers in
Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill and will finish off the season with Brandon McCarthy.
Fortunately, the Giants will start their best pitchers as well. In recent years these games have
been decided on the mound and that won t be any different form this series. Whosever starting

are playing too good and will most likely roll over the ailing Giants. Simply put, the Dodgers are a

Get Drunk By Charles Baudelaire
In the prose poem, Get Drunk, Charles Baudelaire shares advice on how to escape all the
burdens that come with life. He encourages his readers to get drunk and to always be drunk.
Charles Baudelaire sensibly uses the word drunk to describe what one should do when he or she
begins to feel the burden of time. The way he defines drunkenness in this poem inspires readers to
change their mindset on what brings them satisfaction in life. I believe Get Drunk transmits a
healthy message and the poet views drunkenness as a positive experience. When people hear or see
the word drunk , they automatically think of alcohol consumption and the psychological effects it
has on the mind. Baudelaire s definition of drunkenness differs from the dictionaries

Replacing the Current Income Tax Structure with the FairTax Plan
It is the general agreement of tax payers everywhere that the current tax system is way too
complicated. You either need to have a certified public accountant help you do them or a
specialized tax program to walk you through it. Not only that, but the costs associated with
having someone prepare your taxes or buying the specialized computer program needed to
navigate the myriad of entangled tax codes and laws can become quite expensive. But it is not
only expensive for us, the individual tax payer, but it is also expensive for businesses and it is
extremely expensive for the Federal government. Not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The President placed upon the panel stipulations as to what types of recommendations could be
made, such as reducing the cost of compliance, having to base at least one recommendation on the
current tax structure and that all recommendations had to be revenue neutral, meaning they had to
be able to collect the same amount of taxes that the government was projected to collect under the
current tax structure. Unfortunately, due to those stipulations imposed upon the panel, they were
limited in what they could recommend. Even in today s environment, in a news article by Fox
Business, President Trump has recently talked about a major tax reform.
Unfortunately, all of these reforms are simply trying to patch up the current income tax system when
what is really needed is a complete replacement to a new tax system. One of the better alternative
tax systems being proposed is the National Retail Sales Tax (NRST), also known as the FairTax.
The FairTax plan, which was originally introduced back in 1999, was reintroduced by House
Representative John Linder and Senator Saxby Chambliss in 2007. It proposes to replace the
current income tax system, which includes personal income, corporate income, estate and gift,

daily life, especially from my peers. Occasionally, though, I am very disappointed and surprised
by people I respect. My father, on a clear winter morning, devastated my pure view of his wisdom
with a singular comment. He said, The mess these black people in Detroit are in is what they

black people there. All I could do was nod my head and stay silent while inside all I felt was
shock. I had never heard my father make a comment so prejudiced before and had believed him
to be a tolerant man of all groups of people. He had grown up in Detroit, gone into the navy and
seen the world through it, had received a college education, and worked at a steady job where he
met all sorts of different people. Through knowing this, I had thought him to be the picture of a
tolerant American who knew differences existed but accepted them. In my mind, my view of

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Ratio...
Every company or business using ratio analysis to measures financial performance within a period
of time to shows their profit or loss. There is no doubt that ratio analysis gives great insights about
a company. Using ratio analysis by a company also has few disadvantages.
First of the disadvantage of using ratio analysis is difference in accounting methodologies. Certain
ratios may be adversely affected by a company s accounting practices. Different company may be
using different accounting method. For instance, inventory valuation methods may differ and it can
be depreciation methods. As a result, comparing ratios of such companies may not describe a
correct picture as what should express.
The next limitation of applying ratio analysis is the effects of inflation not taken into
considerations. Financial records are made over a period of time. All of these records might not
give a correct picture because of the effects of inflation are not taken into account while recording.
For example, office equipment purchased two years ago was recorded at historical costs in the
statement of financial position. These rates might have the different value currently due to
inflation. The value of office equipment and depreciation may have different value now as it had
recorded.
Ratio analysis might also guide to a narrow focus on some elements of a ... Show more content on

Difference Between Reasonable Suspicion And Reasonable Doubt
The issue within this paper focuses on the difference between reasonable suspicion and probable
doubt. The two appear similar in many ways as both require the best judgment of the law
enforcement personnel. But they are in fact different, and all law enforcement must know the
difference in order for the evidence to be admissible in court. Law enforcement is obligated to
follow the protocols and procedures outlined by the U.S. Supreme Court; if law enforcement does
not follow the laws, perpetrators could be released and free to commit more crimes. Proving
probable cause and reasonable suspicion are imperative to avoid violating the rights of citizens.
The police need only reasonable suspicion to stop an individual and question him or her, and they
may search for weapons if they believe that the person is armed or presents an imminent threat of
bodily harm (Taylor, 2012). Reasonable suspicion is when a law enforcement personnel presumes a
crime has been or is about to be committed. For instance, a police officer observes a vehicle
driving unusually faster than the others on the road, therefore performing a speed check using
radar. The car is, in fact, speeding so the officer pursues the vehicle and pulls them over. Upon
approaching the vehicle, the officer notices the suspect scrambling and whispering while leaning
around the car. This causes suspicion, reasonable suspicion, which allows the officer to ask the
person out of the vehicle to detain them. It also gives the

How successful can the management of fragile environments...
How successful can the management of fragile environments be, given the constant and increasing
demand for their exploitation?
A fragile environment is an area where the flora and fauna have adapted to a specific climate and
evolved to occupy many different niches due to extremely high competition for resources.
Furthermore due to the constant abiotic conditions, specialisation and symbiotic relationships have
occurred to such a degree that even the slightest ecological or environmental disruption cannot be
accommodated, meaning individual habitats and ecosystems can be easily destroyed. This
combination of specialisation and interdependence increases the overall fragility and vulnerability

As most locals have no other viable alternative to generate income for their families. Furthermore
indigenous peoples often receive little education regarding global affairs and may not recognise the
need for conservation. In addition it is rare that a single fragile environment is endemic to one
country, as they often span over several territories. A good example is the Amazon rainforestwhich
lies within Brazil, holding 60% of the forest, Peru 13%, Columbia 10% and with Venezuela,
Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana also holding small amounts. This makes it
difficult to establish a uniform strategy across the whole are, and made harder still by low funds
available for conservation in many of these countries.
One of the more popular forms of conservation management is conservation reserves that protect
biodiversity and ensure its population lives sustainably with their environment. One example of
such a scheme is the Central Amazon Conservation complex in the Brazilian Amazon. Established
in 2003, it brings together four reserves in the Amazon; Jau National Park, Anavilhanas Ecological

Herp Protein Synthesis
Viruses have also developed methods to prevent the activity of the transporter associated with
antigen processing, TAP. The TAP complex consists of two protein subunits; TAP1 and TAP2, and
is an ATP dependant peptide transporter essential for the transport of peptides to the ER and
binding of the peptides to MHC class I molecules [11]. Various herpesviruses interfere with antigen
presentation through the blocking the activity of TAP. The Herpes simplex virus
type I (HSV 1)
encodes the proteinICP47, which competes with peptides in the cytoplasm to bind to TAP. As a
result fewer viral peptides are transported to the ER for loading onto MHC I molecules. This ICP47
protein consists of 88 amino acid residues, out of which residues 3 34 act as the... Show more

The Bovine herpsvirus 1 (BoHV 1) produces the protein UL49.5, which also interferes with the
transport of peptides via TAP [13]. The BoHV 1 UL49.5 interacts with the TAP core particle,
through its transmembrane domain and ER luminal domain, and prevents rearrangements in the
structure of TAP. These rearrangements typically occur subsequent to the binding of antigenic
peptides and ATP. Such rearrangements influence the movement of TAP, as during peptide transport
the transporter molecules move slower than those not bound to peptides. However, the binding of
UL49.5 hinders such changes in TAP mobility by preventing structural rearrangements, which are
essential for the translocation of peptides. BoHV 1 UL49.5 also interrupts peptide transport
through promoting the degradation of the TAP1 and TAP2 subunits. This is achieved by the C
terminal cytoplasmic tail of UL49.5 which connects the TAP and UL49.5 complex to ubiquitin,
thereby targeting it for proteasome mediated degradation [12, 13]. This transporter is also a key
target for other viral evasion proteins (Table

Liberals and Conservatives in Post Revolutionary Latin America
Models for post revolutionary Latin American government are born of the complex economic and
social realities of 17th and 18th century Europe. From the momentum of the Enlightenment came
major political rebellions of the elite class against entrenched national monarchies and systems of
power. Within this time period of elitist revolt and intensive political restructuring, the fundamental
basis for both liberal and conservative ideology was driven deep into Latin American soil. However,

Comprised of landowners, lawyers, judges, priests, military officers and public officials, the creole
and mazomba leaders of Latin American society found insatiable inspiration from the American and
French Revolutions of the eighteenth century, and flooded Latin America with a liberal movement
for independent nations. Conservatives, in contrast, sought to preserve the traditions of the colonial
period, and the Orthodox rule of both the church and foreign born royal authorities. Yet Old World
flavor soured bitterly in a New World teeming with liberal thinkers and daring rebels. Desiring to
surpass Old World peninsular and reinГіs rulers, creole and mazomba won control over local

New World liberal intellectuals believed in minimal government direction and unregulated free

special equipment. Because the hiker can walk as far as he wants, there is not physical strain
unless he walks among hills or mountains. I am sure we could find many definition for the word
hiking, but despite the many variations derives from this word hiking they all have to do with
some form of walking. Hiking is one of the most sought out hobbies in what world today and is
used in academic and professional sports organizations around the world. Our US military and
police forces use this hobby as a part of their routine training for fitness and training purposes.
I remember my first experience hiking to the top of the tallest mountain in Jamaica West Indies. I
was only 16 years of age, just a boy trying out this new adventure called hiking. My self and 14

4315 Crime Scene Project Essay
Crime Scene 2
Analysis of crime scene. A deceased female was found in her home on Monday, June 2nd. The
victim was found bound to the bed and stabbed 13 times and semen was found. I will provide
theories and explanations of each to help suggest why the perpetrator committed this crime.
The Offender
The husband is the potential suspect. He had the perfect alibi, he was out of town and no one would
suspect him of committing the crime. He knew his wife would be home from work that day. He
knew her routine and carefully planned when he would commit the murder. Nothing was stolen
from the home, as it contained a wealth of expensive items. The fact that nothing was disturbed,
points to the husband. He knew the layout of the home, because he ... Show more content on

A person s criminal activity can begin later in life and driving forces are swayed by various life
circumstances.
This theory includes different classes and types of criminals. It is a combination of latent trait
theory and life course theory which helps explain that there are different paths and classes of
offenders. The external force, in this case, a mistress, would be the trajectory. Working in
combination with his bad temper, arousal theory influenced the criminal behavior. This theory
might not fully support his motives if he didn t have a mistress or seeking financial gain. If no
outside forces compelled him to murder his wife then this theory won t apply.
Arousal Theory
This theory combines genetic and environmental reasons as to the reasons how a brain processes
environmental stimulation differently, the response varies for each person. His inability to
control anger combined with his desire to be with another woman, and a possible sizeable
financial gain, influenced intentions. He had deep seated resentment towards his wife and the
tension was building over a period of time. He was obviously unhappy yet kept it hidden. He
possibly had frequent anger episodes. I believe that when he initially tried to stab her and failed to
kill her, he exploded and reacted in a very violent way. There is the possibility that he remained

Prozac Nation Essay
Running Head: Prozac Nation and Major Depression Disorder Prozac Nation and Major
Depression Disorder Raquel H. Sasyn University of Houston Ms. Chastity Farr Clinical
Psychology Section 25673 April 23, 2010 Introduction Prozac Nation, is a best selling memoir
written by Elizabeth Wurtzel in 1994. Based on Wurtzel s stormy childhood and adolescence,
Prozac Nation explores many topics such as major depression, family relations, and drug abuse.
The story narrates Wurtzel s life from age 11 to her senior year at Harvard University. Throughout
this time, she continuously battles major depressive episodes, suicide ideations, and maladaptive
human relations (New York University, 2010). Overall, the book provides an... Show more content

Moreover, he disappoints Wurtzel by not providing for her financially, (Prozac Nation, 2001).
Her familial conflicts continue well into her college years. Therefore, it is safe to deduce that
Wurtzel s childhood did play a considerable role in the development of her depression. Another
important aspect of Wurtzel s psychological condition is behavioral. In the movie, she abuses
many kinds of drugs in college, in an attempt to alleviate her depressive symptoms (Prozac
Nation, 2001). In fact, drug abuse is a commonly co morbid condition in depressed patients
(Nunes and Levin, 2008). In Wurtzel s case, however, drug abuse is a manifestation rather than
the cause of her depression. The behavioral, psychodynamic, and biological paradigms of
depression help explain Wurtzel s emotional turmoil. However, these paradigms also have some
weaknesses. The biological paradigm, for example, is not always a reliable indicator of how a
person can develop emotional conditions later in life. Mood disorders may occur despite a child
being exposed to normal parenting or the lack of negative parental dynamics (Wagner, 2003). The
psychodynamic paradigm alone cannot explain the entire origin of one s psychological problems.
Interpersonal and familial conflicts could contribute to depression, but may not be the direct cause.
Therefore, any psychological paradigm alone will normally not be successful to describe one s
depressive symptoms. When

Literary Analysis Of Gloria Anzaldua s Borderlands
There are many different styles of writing that authors use to achieve a certain affect. For example,
how a writer chooses words, languages and structures certain sentences and or paragraphs. An
author s different strategies influence the audience by giving them or taking away a certain
understanding that the author is trying to achieve. Gloria Anzaldua in Borderlands , explains a
large portion of geographical history and of her own history through just one chapter. She wants the
readers to understand the struggles she has had both internal and external, and she does this through
her rhetorical strategies. While doing so from the begging of the opener for the first chapter The
homeland, Aztlan: El otro Mexico the readerwill encounter various literary discourse. The usage of
writingmostly in English, with Spanish lines used strategically and together throughout, will offer
a historical and universal path, that affectively opens the borders at times for the reader of
misunderstanding. Over nearly two full pages of text, Anzaldua takes the reader on a frustrating,
historical journey. The readers are exposed to a variety of Anzaldua s struggles and her points of
view. She takes us through multiple styles of writing in just a few pages. In the world today, people
are faced with many obstacles and borders that causes frustration, as Anzaldua does through writing.

Aschenputtel And Cinderella Similarities
In the two versions of Cinderella, Aschenputtel by the Grimm Brothers and Cinderella or the
Little Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault, there are many things to compare with the two. The
Grimm Bothers are known for their darker versions of everyone s favorite fairytales. However,
Charles Perrault wrote these fairytales more so for children, and his versions are what Disney
based their animated movies off of. Although there are many similarities, the differences are what
really get people to read these two stories. The first difference is the father s role in the two
versions. In Aschenputtel, the father is mentioned more. The father asked his daughters, Cinderella
and her step sisters, what they wanted from the fair, and Cinderella tells him to get her the first
twig he sees. This is where the reader notices that Cinderella does not want manufactured goods,
and that she is more into nature. Once she receives the twig, she goes to her mother s grave and
plants the twig. Well now, a small tree begins to grow there, and these two white dove type birds
appear every time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two stories have two completely different magical sources, which drastically changes the
ending in the two versions. In Aschenputtel, Cinderella receives her magic from the two magic
white birds that appear at her mother s grave. However, in the Little Glass Slipper, Cinderella has
a godmother that appears when she begins to cry that she cannot go to the ball. The way the
magic comes from these two sources are different obviously. For the birds in Aschenputtel, they
just fly over Cinderella, or whatever she wanted them to clean, giving her whatever she asked for.
In the Little Glass Slipper, the godmother asked Cinderella to go grab some things for her.
Whenever Cinderella would bring some of those certain things back to the godmother, she would
just wave her magic wand and turn those things into whatever she wanted them to

Joseph Heller Catch 22 Analysis
Historically, America s involvement in war has been met with opposition. The Vietnam and
Korean Wars were unpopular with many United States citizens due to the fact that the country had
no personal reason for involvement, as they were not attacked. However, attacks on American
soil have been known to bring rise to a large sense of nationalism. Following the attacks of
September 11, 2001, America came together to fight the war on terrorism. Likewise, America was
drawn into World War Two after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. American literature would not dare
speak ill of American involvement in World War Two. Unlike any author in his time, Joseph Heller
who opposed war himself voiced the anxious, absurdist, outrageous reaction of a generation... Show

Heller has publically expressed his disagreement with war, as he spoke his objection to the idea of
American intervention in Vietnam (Najarian) in many interviews. In the novel, he expresses his
contempt for war in multiple ways. The book has many instances of comedic language that
many call black humor, a dark and absurd type of comedic writing many find appaling. However, in
a 1972 interview with Richard Sale Heller took pains to make it clear that he was not a black
humorist: First of all, I don t like the term black humor. I like to think of it as sour sarcasm or ugly
satire. I don t like comedy for the sake of comedy (Pinsker 379). When he does use comedy, Heller
has a purpose. In Catch 22, Heller makes his purpose to send a sublte message obvious as he
employs a more comedic manner to convey disdain for the army ( Catch 22, Literature 70).
Yossarian is so desperate to get out of the war that it starts to become something of a joke as the
story is progressing. At one point, Yossarian [runs] right into the hospital, determined to remain
there forever rather than fly one mission more than the thirty two missions he had (Heller 205).
To the reader, it is comedic that Yossarian is going to such great lengths to get out of combat.
This clear use of comedy sends Heller s anti war philosophy in an effective way. Not only does
Heller speak out against war in his novel, but he also effectively communicates his belief that
institutions such as the military, big business, government, and religion are corrupt ( Catch 22,
Novels 90) by using multiple literary devices. The corruption is being mirrored in the book as
Yossarian is learning of the new regulation for the number of missions that must be flown before
one is considered for discharge from service: Fifty missions, Doc Daneeka [tells] [Yossarian],
shaking his head. The colonel wants fifty missions

The trigonometric functions are functions of an angle. They relate the angles of a triangle to the
lengths of its sides. Trigonometric functions are important in the study of triangles and modeling
periodic phenomena, among many other application. Amplitude is half the distance between the
minimum and maximum values of the range of a periodic function with a bounded range. A graph

In December 2012, I dropped out of college to join the United States Navy. I left the comfort of
my home where I had lived my entire life, said goodbye to my friends and family, and ventured
out to accomplish my dream. What started as a passion to serve my country turned into a path of
self discovery. I would find hidden deeply in myself the innate ability to lead others and to use
my voice to stand up for what I believed in. I would separate five years later with the experience of
a lifetime. I have a deep interest in mathematics and science that I brought into the military. I chose

I would no longer work on aviation electronics; my new job was to be in charge of the Line
division. This division was the most undermanned, under qualified, and busiest department there
was. We were directly in charge of the flight operations that carried out our squadron s missions.
To make matters even more difficult, every sailor who came to my department was brand new
to the military, coming straight from boot camp. Over the next fourteen months I experienced
every emotion that came from being a leader. In the beginning I felt stressed, overwhelmed, and
inadequate. I struggled to find a balance of meeting my squadron s demands while still ensuring
the well being of my sailors. The intense pressure to perform while deployed in real world
operations taught me how to thrive in high stress environments. I learned the importance of
leading by example and the power of influence. Being a leader is not easy; it was the most
difficult time of my naval career but I loved it. I became drawn to the power I had to innovate, to
have a voice, to stand up for my sailors, and to have a profound effect on my squadron s ability to
defend our country. As a squadron, we completed 98% of our deployment missions and received a
grade of 99.4% in our annual Aviation Maintenance Inspection. My department received a 100% in
our yearly audit and became fully qualified by the time I transferred.

Police Brutality Report
Police seemingly have the civic duty to protect and serve the tax paying Americans of the United
States like most people who are given authority or supremacy over others; their privilege can be
abused. The word Police is the civic force of a nation or local government, responsible for the
prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order Regrettably, the opposite is
happening and policebrutality is an act that is happening all over the world, often being associated
with police misconduct. Hundreds of police brutalitycases have gone to court or have gone
unreported, so the question at hand is clearly simple how is police brutality detrimental to the

when the victim is White, which happens a lot too, just not as often per population but more
often by number. Does that make all the White people abused in the system disappear because
they are greater in number but less by census? Of course it does not. A person is a person. If

Financial Health Of A Company
Liquidity Ratios The financial health of a business greatly depends on its ability to maintain
current commitments and obligations. Liquidity or the ability to generate cash from current assets
to meet short term obligations as well as unforeseen responsibility is important for the subsistence
of a company. A reasonable level of liquidity is essential to the survival of a company, as poor cash
control is one of the main reasons for business failure. (Pyke, 2007) Through utilization of tools,
such as liquidity ratios, or financial metrics, to evaluate the company s ability to meet current
business obligations, should the debtneeds to be settled, we are able to assess its immediate
financial strength. Liquidity ratios provide creditors as well as businesses a quick analysis tool,
using data, which are readily available from annual financial statements, to complete these
assessments. These ratios are critical to creditors and are the most widely used ratios, perhaps next
to profitability ratios. (Joe Lan, 2002) Liquidity ratios include current ratio, quick ratio (also
referred to as acid test ratio), net working capital ratio, and cash ratio. Current ratio is the most basic
or fundamental of the four and focuses mainly on current assets, while quick ratio is more stringent,
eliminating inventoryand prepaid expenses, as both are more difficult to liquidate (Morningstar,
2016). Cash ratio is the most conservative , as it mainly focuses on cash and investments

The Fashion Field As A Global Phenomenon
Chapter II
1. Introduction
In times where fashion is perceived as a global phenomenon, it seems easier than ever for people
to follow, consume and produce fashion from anywhere at any point of time. Media is spreading
what s hot and what s not within seconds all over the globe. A closer look at the mechanisms of
the creation of fashion from a practical and theoretical angel sheds light on the well guarded
boarders of this so called fashion democracy. Who decides the content of fashion? A simple answer
given, collectively repeated by those involved in the creation of fashion is talent. Without talent and
the right intuition fashion cannot arise and prosper.
In this essay a will give a brief outline of the fashion field, following the theoretical approach and
terminology of Pierre Bourdieu, and its structure which sets the limits to the democratic fashion
by unequally producing and distributing fashion talent. The resulting global disproportion of so
called talent is visible in the excessive attention New York, Paris and London receive as fashion
gatekeepers. Dubai, with its eyes set on 2020 to become the most prestigious fashion capital of
the world, struggles to compete with those giants. Hence, it applies a subversive strategy by
building a fashion education system to equip its very own local talent with the skills to advance in
the global fashion market. The effectiveness and constrains of this strategy I will examine on the
following pages and give a prospect of how

Write An Essay On Being A Minority
What does the word minority mean to me and tell a situation in which the actions of myself or of

There are many inequalities in our society based on race and ethnicity. Minority consists of group
that makes up then less than half the total population, and are treated differently based on their race
and ethnicity. Minorities are people of color, low income, and women. To be a minority means
that you are lefts with the jobs that no else wants, you have limited access to medical care, and
are caught up with stress which leads to bad addictions and poor eating habits. We have the belief
that we all have an equal opportunity in life including equal access to quality education. In schools
where there is a larger group of minorities usually get less funding for their school which does not
help children reach their full potential. Another issue that minorities encounter is that they are
usually placed in the lower paying jobs. The cost of education can be too much for a minority
which usually leads them to have lower paying jobs which stops them from pursuing a better future.

  • 2. Dna Sequences Using Polymerase Chain Reaction Amplification of 16S Ribosomal DNA Sequences using Polymerase Chain Reaction Edwina Abou Haidar, Houssam Al Koussa, Mary AbedAlAhad. Department of Biology, Lebanese American University, Byblos, Lebanon Abstract The 16s rRNA gene sequencing is a widely common amplicon sequencing method used to identify and compare bacteria in a given sample. This method is well established and allows to study phylogeny and taxonomy of complex microbiomes. In this study, an unknown sample of extracted microbial DNA was analyzed by performing the polymerase chain reaction followed by agarose gel electrophoresis. The results were accurate since three distinct bands (1500 basepairs) corresponded to our sample (duplicates) and the positive control. This indicates clearly the amplification of the 16s rRNA gene whose further sequencing technique constitutes a pivotal tool in the accurate identification of bacterial isolates as well as the discovery of novel bacteria in clinical microbiology laboratories. Abbreviations rDNA: ribosomal DNA rRNA: ribosomal RNA bp: base pair PCR: Polymerase Chain Reaction Introduction Physiological and biochemical tests constituting the basis of conventional differentiation between bacterial species are somehow cumbersome, consume a lot of time and require different approaches [1]. Furthermore, the commercial identification systems failed to identify commonly encountered bacteria and uncommon isolates. In fact, these commercial systems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hp Compaq Essay Question 1 Using a SWOT analysis, identify the key strategic fits between the two companies. What are the most important expected synergies? StrengthWeakness пЃ·Ability to serve customers at lower cost пЃ·Compaq was a significant player in enterprise systems and HP in IT services business пЃ·Wider spectrum of products for its clients through the merger пЃ·Strong brand recognition, something that takes time to build пЃ·Highly complimentary R DпЃ·Overlapping management пЃ·Overlapping product lines пЃ·Diluted interests in imaging and printing which were traditionally HP s strengths OpportunityThreat пЃ·The next IBM? The expected cost synergies (as announced by HP) are approximately $2.5 billion . This amounts to approximately $0.83 per share in the merged firm. The market value of Compaq at the time was approximately $21 billion pre merger announcement, meaning that a reasonable price for Compaq should be $23.5 billion. So the final exchange ratio price of $25 billion includes a premium of 6.3% or $1.5 billion. Considering that the PC market had matured and was faced with increasing competition with price undercutting by competitors, the price offered by HP seems rather optimistic. (Refer to HP Compaq key note slides) пЃ·One of the assumptions is the P/E of 15x to 25x. Is this justified? 0 пЃ·Is the discount rate of 15% justified? (Look at the back and use beta to calculate). If you calculate it, it seems reasonable. (Beta for HP is 1.5 and 15% discount rate is viable) пЃ·Revenue loss of $4.1 billion. Where could this come from? ANS: Overlapping businesses and cannibalisation of products and hence natural revenue loss. Question 3 (exhibit 5 7 ) Conduct a simple valuation of Compaq. Does your valuation differ significantly from the HP offer price and why? Do you think the offer price is appropriate? Brief background of Compaq: Founded in 1982 its primary strengths are in innovation and its low cost structure of its products which compete with Dell. Its primary business divisions are commercial and consumer PCs, enterprise computing and global services. Its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the last five years, drones have experienced a massive spike in interest and have been upgraded constantly until they became state of the art machines. Though drones are one of the most advanced pieces of technology the world has ever seen, they should not be used by militaries because of the many problems associated with them, such as limited pilots, innocent victims, and mid flight crashes. Many people have misconceptions about drones, but they actually are remote controlled aircrafts that have weapons on them and are used by the military for dangerous aerial attack and surveillance. It is hard to decide, but most of us argue that the PC is not better than Xbox version minecraft. But let s talk about why PC minecraft is better than xbox. The most biggest difference for xbox is that it doesn t have the huge multiplayer option and Minecraft Realm option. In the PC version in multiplayer you can join minecraft servers where you can play games like sg, skywars, Factions, and much more games. Another cool thing about multiplayer is that you can get to know some good online friends and in this server called Mineplex you can do /friend to friend people so if they re on at some point, you can teleport to them and play with them. Minecraft realms is where you can do survival or creative or do minigames, and much more cool stuff. • 7. The Rocky Mountain Trail However, as I led the group north in the direction of our unseen target the trail at times would blend into the rocky terrain and become challenging to follow. Silhouetted against the grayish sky to our immediate left were two rock strewn peaks that spiked into view through the thick air above us. Stemming from the main trail a faint path snaked its way to an area between and below the peaks and gradually faded into the rugged terrain. From previous expeditions on the Sauk, I knew the summit trail would continue and circle north on a ridge around a rocky pinnacle directly above the west face. For a brief moment I was nearly fooled into taking the path even though I felt a scramble to the summit would be too soon. Feeling uncertain I continued ahead with no summit in my sights. I made a... After a few comments of the rain were exchanged, the group passed to continue their ten or twelve minute journey to the top. Continuing the descent and rounding the south ridge to the west side, a second group of three approached on the trail below. In passing, I offered that our time from the top was approximately twenty minutes at minimum, meaning they at least had twenty to thirty minutes to the summit. Minutes later the trail delivered us to the familiar rock wall embedded in the mountain, and it sliced under the rock continuing on a long stretch to the second switchback leading down. After making the estimated 325 degree turn a third group could be seen below. The mountain, suddenly becoming crowded, felt as if traversing the switchbacks and navigating the trail resembled playing chicken with oncoming trekkers. Authors state how nurses must be able to work various shifts in orders to provide 24 hour care for patients. In order for patients to receive the care needed, nurses must have flexible work schedules. Shift work is the solution to provide for this flexibility. • 9. Cyber Attackers Use For Hacking An Organization Phishing has become one of the most successful methods cyber attackers use for hacking an organization. It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or government organization. The attackers do not have a specific target in mind nor do they now exactly who will fall victim, they simply know the more phishing emails they send out, the more people they can fool. Their goal is to trick people into providing the phishers with their private information. 2015 saw an increase of 23% of users opening phishing messages and 11% of users click on the attachment (Verizon, 2015). Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put invested in technological means. Many organizations use technical means such as filtering messages, detection of fraudulent websites, and developing anti phishing warning systems (Egelman et al. 2008). If you are six years old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The Egyptians had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some examples that were different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men in working classes wore either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore straight dresses with one or two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and by pharaohs. At times Kings and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers. Another example is the jewelry. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore ... • 12. A Depth Analysis Of Henri Fayol s Perspective On... Management is one of the most significant factors of production necessary for the realization of a company s objectives. The number of managers varies from one corporation to another and is highly dependent on the size of the corporation. The leadership of a company s management is instrumental as it sets and guides the general direction that the company ought to go. It provides efficient methods in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods and services as well as dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the productivity and competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of Henri Fayol s perspective on managementin addition to exploring other perspectives employed by other authors. Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which considers management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He was the first to recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own. An employee with more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills (Byrnes 2014, p.81). According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities are concerned with formulation of operational plans for the business. • 13. The Rabbits-Deconstruction of Visual Essay John Marsden s and Shaun Tan s epic picture book, The Rabbits , is an allegorical fable about colonisation, told from the perspective of the natives. An unseen narrator describes the coming of rabbits in the most minimal detail, an encounter that is at first friendly and curious, but later darkens as it becomes apparent that the visitors are actually invaders. My chosen image (above), embodies the overall style of the book which is deliberately sparse and strange. Both text and image conveys an overall sense of bewilderment and anxiety as native numbat like creatures witness the environmental devastation under the wheels of a strange new culture, represented by the rabbits. The image projects a painting of a striking sunset and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This metaphorically suggests that the rabbits have already begun to construct their homes, and now nobody can stop them. Their forceful invasion into the native indigenous landscape is further emphasised by the dead lizard featured in the foreground, which has been brutally squashed with seemingly no remorse. Furthermore, the buildings in the background are entirely formed by jigsaw pieces. Thus Tan presents us with a visual allegory of the rabbit society as manipulative and un relentless nature. The small strip across the top of the visual, presents us with an alternate world that is natural and heaven like where numbat like creatures are suspended upon tree branches. The gaze of the numbat like creatures leads us to the quote, They didn t live in trees like we did . Through the inclusion of text Tan portrays that the numbat like creatures don t understand the rabbits. This quote does not show any strong emotions, but instead the blatant tone bestows a clueless feeling to us, the responders. This section is very small in contrast to the rest of the image showing the rabbits. This symbolically represents the unprecedented manner in which the rabbits came and quickly made their own houses . At observing the picture more closely, we can conclude that where the numbat like creatures are sitting, the sky is lighter compared to where the rabbits are placed; implying that the lighter colour is the time the numbat like creatures were familiar ... • 15. Characterism In The Black Witch By Laurie Forest The Black Witch, a Novel written by Laurie Forest and published May 2017, attempts to tell a fictional story about a young girl who confronts racism, elitism, and biasness; and grows into a hero for not just her people, but of all races. It is meant to be a story of redemption and learning to trust those she has been raised to hate and fear, a premise in which first intrigued me to purchase the book, however upon reading it fails to succeed in its mission, thus leaving me disappointed in the story. While it is the first book in a series, it is my belief that while there should be some lingering questions that makes a reader want to continue the series, the initial promise of fully trusting the other races should have been fulfilled. Elloren Gardner is the main character, and our POV for this story. We first meet her living in a rural town with her uncle and unaware of her status within her people. Her entire life she is raised with strict religious beliefs, for which she has no basis to question them. Part of these religious indoctrinations is that her people are pure and that all other races are evil, a belief she holds strongly to. We are first introduced to this belief in the very first chapter where Elloren states We Gardnerians are a pure blooded race, free from the stain of the heathen races that surround us. This ingratiates the reader that our main character is racist towards the other races that share this fictional world. On initial reading, I placed this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These drug cartels have been increasing their territory, murder tolls, and power. The cartels have started to take over the government and Mexico has been becoming known as a lost state. Drug cartels are rising to power because of the lack of government, and structure which also brings fear to all the regular citizens throughout Mexico. Many citizens regularly get murdered for lying to the cartel, informing the authorities about the cartels, or antagonizing the cartels. Although Mexican drug cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, their influence has increased since the demise of the Colombian Cali in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now dominate the wholesale illicit drug market and in 2007 controlled 90% of the cocaine entering the United States. Arrests of key cartel leaders, has led to increasing drug violence as cartels fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. As violence levels rise so do tension levels. Again we need to look at how the Bible uses these words. In John 17:3 it says that This is eternal life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (New American Standard Bible, 1995 revised). In that verse it talks about how having eternal life is to also knowing God. Also only the believer is known by Jesus (John 10:27; Gal. 4:8 9; Romans 8:29). The unbeliever is not known by Jesus (Matt. 7:21 23). In every verse except for one, God says that he knows only the believers. Knowing this is a kind of salvation knowing, it is a kind of knowing that God gives to the Christians. He knows them and knows that they are saved. The unbelievers are not known and therefore are not saved. It would seem to be consistent with scripture to say that ...as I m fully known would refer to salvation relationship between the Christians and Jesus Christ. When the return of Christ comes, we as Christians will see him face to face. Another argument is that present day tongues are further revelation and then must be equal to scripture and ought to be included into the Bible. But since the Bible has nothing to add to it, the gift of tongues must no longer be valid. • 18. Economics Reflection . Through the process of reading, I learned many things about the economy. First of all, I learned that it is a much more difficult decision to come to in regards of how much government involvement in the nation s economy is enough, how much is too little, and how much is not enough. I also learned that trying to keep the economy stable and productive is a constant and difficult struggle, and that it is often difficult to even know what needs to or can be done in order to stabilize it. While I find economicsto be somewhat boring (I am a music major and largely emotionally driven, which means that my entertainment is usually emotionally involving somehow), I actually enjoyed how Wheelan explained economics in this book. While I would not read it for fun, reading this book as an assignment was not painful. Having government involved in the economy has its pros and cons. One of the Pros is that the government can help prevent or discourage harmful behaviors or actions. Government regulation can prevent man caused shortages. Fishing regulations are often put in place to prevent overfishing. These regulations prevent or discourage fishermen from fishing too much in one season, which allows the fish to repopulate and remain available in the future. In the book, Wheelan mentioned how the government can also tax bad behaviors to encourage behaviors that benefit health and/or the environment. An example of this is a tax on gasoline and/or larger vehicles, or a tax on cigarettes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently in chapter 4, he alludes to a religious/historical reformations occurring in Great Britain, through Richard Brinsley Sheridan, an Irish dramatist: Catholic emancipation. . In Ireland, the Irish people were oppressed by the Anglicans (Britain s national church) due to religious avidity. Eventually after the reformation, the Irish citizens had the judgment to choose the Catholic or Anglican church. As a result, Douglass utilizes historical allusion to foster the ideals of freedom by giving the slaves an example that they have choices in life (such as being an autodidactic) , but they must fight for them. We are naturally more likely to be persuaded by a person who has knowledge therefore, the audience sense the credibility that the speaker develops. Douglass detests the practice of slavery. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who is invited to the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history of socialized understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes to rewrite this history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understandingand respect (CC). This hope is encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). I love natural beauty and flowers and I can easily relate this poem to the marigold flowers I have planted this summer. I like this poem because it makes one feel good about the world, even if you re lonely. Even though I don t have a back yard garden, the sight of these flowers gently dancing in the breeze makes me feel like in a garden with so many plants and trees. Every company or business using ratio analysis to measures financial performance within a period of time to shows their profit or loss. There is no doubt that ratio analysis gives great insights about a company. Using ratio analysis by a company also has few disadvantages. First of the disadvantage of using ratio analysis is difference in accounting methodologies. Certain ratios may be adversely affected by a company s accounting practices. Different company may be using different accounting method. For instance, inventory valuation methods may differ and it can be depreciation methods. As a result, comparing ratios of such companies may not describe a correct picture as what should express. The next limitation of applying ratio analysis is the effects of inflation not taken into considerations. Financial records are made over a period of time. All of these records might not give a correct picture because of the effects of inflation are not taken into account while recording. For example, office equipment purchased two years ago was recorded at historical costs in the statement of financial position. These rates might have the different value currently due to inflation. • 32. Difference Between Reasonable Suspicion And Reasonable Doubt The issue within this paper focuses on the difference between reasonable suspicion and probable doubt. The two appear similar in many ways as both require the best judgment of the law enforcement personnel. But they are in fact different, and all law enforcement must know the difference in order for the evidence to be admissible in court. Law enforcement is obligated to follow the protocols and procedures outlined by the U.S. Supreme Court; if law enforcement does not follow the laws, perpetrators could be released and free to commit more crimes. Proving probable cause and reasonable suspicion are imperative to avoid violating the rights of citizens. The police need only reasonable suspicion to stop an individual and question him or her, and they may search for weapons if they believe that the person is armed or presents an imminent threat of bodily harm (Taylor, 2012). Reasonable suspicion is when a law enforcement personnel presumes a crime has been or is about to be committed. For instance, a police officer observes a vehicle driving unusually faster than the others on the road, therefore performing a speed check using radar. The car is, in fact, speeding so the officer pursues the vehicle and pulls them over. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer notices the suspect scrambling and whispering while leaning around the car. This causes suspicion, reasonable suspicion, which allows the officer to ask the person out of the vehicle to detain them. It also gives the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A fragile environment is an area where the flora and fauna have adapted to a specific climate and evolved to occupy many different niches due to extremely high competition for resources. Furthermore due to the constant abiotic conditions, specialisation and symbiotic relationships have occurred to such a degree that even the slightest ecological or environmental disruption cannot be accommodated, meaning individual habitats and ecosystems can be easily destroyed. The TAP complex consists of two protein subunits; TAP1 and TAP2, and is an ATP dependant peptide transporter essential for the transport of peptides to the ER and binding of the peptides to MHC class I molecules [11]. Various herpesviruses interfere with antigen presentation through the blocking the activity of TAP. The Herpes simplex virus type I (HSV 1) encodes the proteinICP47, which competes with peptides in the cytoplasm to bind to TAP. As a result fewer viral peptides are transported to the ER for loading onto MHC I molecules. This ICP47 protein consists of 88 amino acid residues, out of which residues 3 34 act as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bovine herpsvirus 1 (BoHV 1) produces the protein UL49.5, which also interferes with the transport of peptides via TAP [13]. The BoHV 1 UL49.5 interacts with the TAP core particle, through its transmembrane domain and ER luminal domain, and prevents rearrangements in the structure of TAP. These rearrangements typically occur subsequent to the binding of antigenic peptides and ATP. Such rearrangements influence the movement of TAP, as during peptide transport the transporter molecules move slower than those not bound to peptides. However, the binding of UL49.5 hinders such changes in TAP mobility by preventing structural rearrangements, which are essential for the translocation of peptides. BoHV 1 UL49.5 also interrupts peptide transport through promoting the degradation of the TAP1 and TAP2 subunits. This is achieved by the C terminal cytoplasmic tail of UL49.5 which connects the TAP and UL49.5 complex to ubiquitin, thereby targeting it for proteasome mediated degradation [12, 13]. This transporter is also a key target for other viral evasion proteins (Table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it is safe to deduce that Wurtzel s childhood did play a considerable role in the development of her depression. Another important aspect of Wurtzel s psychological condition is behavioral. In the movie, she abuses many kinds of drugs in college, in an attempt to alleviate her depressive symptoms (Prozac Nation, 2001). In fact, drug abuse is a commonly co morbid condition in depressed patients (Nunes and Levin, 2008). In Wurtzel s case, however, drug abuse is a manifestation rather than the cause of her depression. The behavioral, psychodynamic, and biological paradigms of depression help explain Wurtzel s emotional turmoil. However, these paradigms also have some weaknesses. The biological paradigm, for example, is not always a reliable indicator of how a person can develop emotional conditions later in life. Mood disorders may occur despite a child being exposed to normal parenting or the lack of negative parental dynamics (Wagner, 2003). The psychodynamic paradigm alone cannot explain the entire origin of one s psychological problems. Interpersonal and familial conflicts could contribute to depression, but may not be the direct cause. Therefore, any psychological paradigm alone will normally not be successful to describe one s depressive symptoms. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heller has publically expressed his disagreement with war, as he spoke his objection to the idea of American intervention in Vietnam (Najarian) in many interviews. In the novel, he expresses his contempt for war in multiple ways. The book has many instances of comedic language that many call black humor, a dark and absurd type of comedic writing many find appaling. However, in a 1972 interview with Richard Sale Heller took pains to make it clear that he was not a black humorist: First of all, I don t like the term black humor. I like to think of it as sour sarcasm or ugly satire. I don t like comedy for the sake of comedy (Pinsker 379). When he does use comedy, Heller has a purpose. In Catch 22, Heller makes his purpose to send a sublte message obvious as he employs a more comedic manner to convey disdain for the army ( Catch 22, Literature 70). Yossarian is so desperate to get out of the war that it starts to become something of a joke as the story is progressing. At one point, Yossarian [runs] right into the hospital, determined to remain there forever rather than fly one mission more than the thirty two missions he had (Heller 205). To the reader, it is comedic that Yossarian is going to such great lengths to get out of combat. This clear use of comedy sends Heller s anti war philosophy in an effective way. Not only does Heller speak out against war in his novel, but he also effectively communicates his belief that institutions such as the military, big business, government, and religion are corrupt ( Catch 22, Novels 90) by using multiple literary devices. The corruption is being mirrored in the book as Yossarian is learning of the new regulation for the number of missions that must be flown before one is considered for discharge from service: Fifty missions, Doc Daneeka [tells] [Yossarian], shaking his head. To make matters even more difficult, every sailor who came to my department was brand new to the military, coming straight from boot camp. Over the next fourteen months I experienced every emotion that came from being a leader. In the beginning I felt stressed, overwhelmed, and inadequate. I struggled to find a balance of meeting my squadron s demands while still ensuring the well being of my sailors. The intense pressure to perform while deployed in real world operations taught me how to thrive in high stress environments. I learned the importance of leading by example and the power of influence. Being a leader is not easy; it was the most difficult time of my naval career but I loved it. I became drawn to the power I had to innovate, to have a voice, to stand up for my sailors, and to have a profound effect on my squadron s ability to defend our country. As a squadron, we completed 98% of our deployment missions and received a grade of 99.4% in our annual Aviation Maintenance Inspection. My department received a 100% in our yearly audit and became fully qualified by the time I transferred. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Police Brutality Report Police seemingly have the civic duty to protect and serve the tax paying Americans of the United States like most people who are given authority or supremacy over others; their privilege can be abused. The word Police is the civic force of a nation or local government, responsible for the prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order Regrettably, the opposite is happening and policebrutality is an act that is happening all over the world, often being associated with police misconduct. Hundreds of police brutalitycases have gone to court or have gone unreported, so the question at hand is clearly simple how is police brutality detrimental to the American people as a whole; not just color. Firstly, before divulging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion I feel that people who only view police brutality as a race related issue are in fact a colorblind racist, it is both a race issue and an abuse of power issue which effects everyone. You should care about abuse issues regardless of the race of the person victimized. It isn t any better when the victim is White, which happens a lot too, just not as often per population but more often by number. Does that make all the White people abused in the system disappear because they are greater in number but less by census? Of course it does not. A person is a person. If another person of another racial group is suffering, you should help regardless of race. If you cannot do that, you are also a racist. • 52. Financial Health Of A Company Liquidity Ratios The financial health of a business greatly depends on its ability to maintain current commitments and obligations. Liquidity or the ability to generate cash from current assets to meet short term obligations as well as unforeseen responsibility is important for the subsistence of a company. A reasonable level of liquidity is essential to the survival of a company, as poor cash control is one of the main reasons for business failure. (Pyke, 2007) Through utilization of tools, such as liquidity ratios, or financial metrics, to evaluate the company s ability to meet current business obligations, should the debtneeds to be settled, we are able to assess its immediate financial strength. Liquidity ratios provide creditors as well as businesses a quick analysis tool, using data, which are readily available from annual financial statements, to complete these assessments. These ratios are critical to creditors and are the most widely used ratios, perhaps next to profitability ratios. (Joe Lan, 2002) Liquidity ratios include current ratio, quick ratio (also referred to as acid test ratio), net working capital ratio, and cash ratio. Current ratio is the most basic or fundamental of the four and focuses mainly on current assets, while quick ratio is more stringent, eliminating inventoryand prepaid expenses, as both are more difficult to liquidate (Morningstar, 2016). Cash ratio is the most conservative , as it mainly focuses on cash and investments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Fashion Field As A Global Phenomenon Chapter II 1. Introduction In times where fashion is perceived as a global phenomenon, it seems easier than ever for people to follow, consume and produce fashion from anywhere at any point of time. Media is spreading what s hot and what s not within seconds all over the globe. A closer look at the mechanisms of the creation of fashion from a practical and theoretical angel sheds light on the well guarded boarders of this so called fashion democracy. Who decides the content of fashion? A simple answer given, collectively repeated by those involved in the creation of fashion is talent. Without talent and the right intuition fashion cannot arise and prosper. In this essay a will give a brief outline of the fashion field, following the theoretical approach and terminology of Pierre Bourdieu, and its structure which sets the limits to the democratic fashion by unequally producing and distributing fashion talent. The resulting global disproportion of so called talent is visible in the excessive attention New York, Paris and London receive as fashion gatekeepers. Dubai, with its eyes set on 2020 to become the most prestigious fashion capital of the world, struggles to compete with those giants. Hence, it applies a subversive strategy by building a fashion education system to equip its very own local talent with the skills to advance in the global fashion market. The effectiveness and constrains of this strategy I will examine on the following pages and give a prospect of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
