Introduction
Emancipatory is among the different types of adult learning. The aim of it is to give
freedom to the learners to limit their control and options in their lives and enable
them to take actions which bring change to their political and social change.
Emancipatory learning emphasizes that the transformation in a learners life can only
take place in an adult s life because it is only in adulthood or adolescence that a
person can be caught in his reliving and history (Merriam, 2010). These realities and
myths examine the degree to which adult education fulfils the emancipator mission by
investigating the practices and beliefs which surrounds the emancipator learning.
Ways in which adult education promotes emancipator learning
Although there is a relationship between adult education and emancipator teachings
not all adults promotes it. People who practice adult education have different
philosophical beliefs about the purpose and goals of emancipator education, although
not all adults who support the belief which leads to emancipatory education. One of
the most disturbing question in the society is about the role of adult education and
whether adult educators work socially relevant and responsible ways which actively
promote continuous societal transformation and perfect participatory freedom which
ensure that there is full equality, participation and social justice for all. The model

4. Struggling to Define Industry in the Industrial Disputes Act
INTRODUCTION
No other provision of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (hereinafter ID Act) has
been under as much scrutiny as the definition of industry given under section 2(j).
To avail the benefit of the ID Act, it is necessary for the worker to prove that his
place of employment falls under the purview of the definition of industry in s 2(j).
Over the years the judiciary has laid down certain tests and criteria to determine and
limit (or as seen later, expand) the scope of the legislation to extend the benefits to
workers in different establishments. One such issue was to examine if educational
institutions (universities, schools, etc) would fall under s. 2(j). This essay starts by
tracing the judicial developments with regard to educational institutions under s 2(j).
ARE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS INDUSTRY ?
The concern of education as industry arose for the first time in Corporation of
Nagpur v Its Employees . It was held that the education department of the
corporation was a service being provided and would therefore fall under industry .
The question was again addressed in Delhi University v Ram Nath in 1963. The
argument presented was that widest meaning should be given to s. 2(j) along the line
of the decision in Hospital Mazdoor Sabha , wherein it had been stated that industry
expressly included services . The working principle stated that the activity should
involve the co operation of the employer and employees with the object of satisfying

5. Biological Causes Of Sex Addiction
Pleasure is what people describe as the feeling of being happily satisfied. Many
people find pleasure in different forms. Though what most people consider to be a
large form of pleasure is sex. For some individuals, abnormal sexual behavior can be
described as an issue and can eventually lead to hypersexuality in a person, which can
increase the chances for addiction. Psychologists also, often describe hyper sexuality
and sex addiction as compulsive sexual behavior, which is a disorder where and
individual experiences high amounts of sexual urges or activity, fantasies, and other
uncommon behaviors sexually. (Hyde DeLamater. 2014) The causes vary from
person to person. There are many types of sexual addictions that create obstacles for

Sex addiction is also not in the American Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or DSM 5. Gambling disorder was
eventually changed from an impulse control disorder to a behavioral addiction,
but sex addiction is considered to be a sexual behavior that goes beyond the
normal sexual behaviors in society by many researchers. These researchers claim
there is no evidence to support that the term sex addiction has any relevance or
proof that sex can be an addiction. (Griffiths. 2015.) But, these people are far from
right. Sex addiction has similarities to people addicted to drugs. The similarities
between the two addictions is that they both effect the brain and rewards the brain
with dopamine. Dopamine is released when people satisfy their needs for survival
or reproduction. Drugs can stimulate an individual with the release of dopamine; this
acts like one of the satisfying needs, causing a person to become addicted. Sex can
also, stimulate an individual each time they engage in the unusual or excessive sexual
behaviors, causing them to rely on these sexual acts. Dependency is also, a
consequence to both addictions which can ruin someone s life in countless ways.

6. The Effects Of Companion Animals On College Campuses
A giant fluffy dog walks past you as you cross the street on your college campus. You
cannot help but notice him smiling up at you with his tongue half hanging out.
Although you feel today has been the worst day, you cannot help but feel compelled
to respond back with a big grin since he looks so happy. According to Wells (2009), it
is only recently, however, that any scientific attention has been devoted to the
relationship between companion animal and physical well being in humans. With
new information, owning a companion animal has become increasingly more popular
for college studentto have on their campuses. College campuses can be a hard time
for many, and can drive students to be continually stressed, or to fall into depression.

In order to conclude her results she looked at the attachment style. For Wells (2009)
she concluded, a direct causal association between human well being and companion
animals is still not conclusive, the literature reviewed above is largely supportive of
the widely held belief that pets are good for us. Although she found no supportive
link between the two variables, she did still see that somehow and someway animals
can improve people s lives. College students can fall under the disease category of this
study since many students suffer from these conditions when times become stressful.
Friedman and Son (2009) also studied the association of companion animals and
human health benefits. An important question is whether pet ownership causes better
health or better health encourages pet ownership (Friedman and Son, 2009). After
researching this question, they found that pet owners had lower levels of
cardiovascular risk factors such as serum triglyceride and blood pressure than non
owners (Friedman and Son, 2009). They even looked at a longitudinal study that pet
ownership was associated with increased 1 year survival rates in patients
hospitalized for coronary heart disease (Friedman and Son, 2009). Their results
provided a basis that the association between both variables does exist, but still needs

dissimilarities between vulnerabilities, risks, threats, and risk along with real
world examples of each. This conclusion is the result of several research reports
from various sources, to include IT professionals such as the Apple Developers
who propose that there are several variations of vulnerabilities which exist,
Microsoft, and The Certified Ethical Hackers Guide. This paper also examines four
variations of vulnerabilities described in various articles reports, and websites and
gives real world examples of each. These descriptions and examples also define as
well as illustrate the vulnerabilities albeit each article has its own conviction as to
what the greatest securityvulnerability is facing IT professionals. Nevertheless, all
vulnerabilities have a commonality discussed in the IBM Security Services 2014

As one may know, cultural aspects differ between a myriad of countries. In
particular, Japan is a traditional yet historical society that is worlds apart from the
familiar United States. Specifically, Geert Hofstede and Edward T. Hall conducted a
study based on cultural influences in relation to the workplace as well as
characteristics of a high context society. However, it is vital to recognize Japan s
business norms and customs, culture, and etiquettebefore one s journey begins.
Japanese Business Norms and Customs:
Geert Hofstede studied that Japanese business culture has much influence from the
power distance aspect. This element deals with the equality of the Japanese from a

Japanese Culture:
Culture in Japan is so pristine that it cannot be compared to American society. Most
of the Japanese practice one of two religions, Shinto and Buddhist, whereas in the
United States, hundreds of religions are practiced. The linguistic aspect of Japan is
spoken so beautifully that rarely does one hear the language being broken. There
are several values within Japanese culture, yet harmony is their main fortune. This
thinking has guided all civilization to work as one instead of focusing on a single
individual. The Japanese are aware of the age and status on fellow citizens to show
respect. It is believed that everyone must value those who are older with a higher
status.
Japanese Etiquette:
The Japanese are known for being extremely polite and refined. If one is not familiar
with Japanese foreign etiquette, one could reflect as being offensive. When meeting a
Japanese civilian, most would think to shake hands. However, it is known that one
does not shake hands but bows. The

Alopecia unversalis The loss of body hair, including eyelashes and eyebrow.
Alopecia areata The hair falls out in patches.

10. Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello
The play, Othello, is certainly, in part, the tragedy of racism. Examples of racism are
common throughout the dialog. This racism is directed toward Othello, a brave
soldier from Africa and currently supreme commander of the Venetian army. Nearly
every character uses a racial slur to insult Othello at one point in the play. Even
Emilia sinks to the level of insulting Othello based on the color of his skin. The
character that most commonly makes racist remarks in Othello is Iago. It is very
apparent that Iago uses racism as a scapegoat to hate and blame Othello. Societal
racism takes its toll on its victims. The effect of racism on Othello is quite evident
and is one of the main causes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He turns against his friend, Othello, and labels him as a lesser person because of his
race. Iago s easy provocation of an important Venetian senator by using Othello s
racial characteristics shows how prevalent racism is in the play.
Roderigo also plays a part in the stereotyping of Othello. He is extremely upset that
Desdemona has eloped with Othello, because he has been attempting to court her
for several months with no avail. Roderigo, like many other characters, then bad
mouths Othello with racial slurs in order to paint a picture of Othello being a lesser
person than himself. Roderigo, with great delight, says, what a full fortune does the
thick lips owe, (1, 1, 72 73) in order to scapegoat him.
Emilia, when she discovers what Othello has done to Desdemona, also reverts back
to racial stereotyping. Rather than simply being enraged and distraught, and perhaps
criticizing his actions, she roars at him, O, the more angel she, and you the blacker
devil! (5, 2, 161) This sudden cry from Emilia who seemed previously indifferent to
Othello s race perhaps betrays some of the deep rooted stereotypes that existed in
11. The Objectification Of Women In Hamlet By William
Shakespeare
Throughout centuries men have been seen as the gender that have more rights than
women. According to Diane Elizabeth Dreher s 1986 book, Domination Defiance:
Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, she explains that a woman during renaissance
England, was to conform patiently and silently to the will of her father and, later, to
that of her husband, accepting commands, correction, physical abuse, with sweetness
and humility (16). As a result of a renaissancesociety that promotes and even
encourages this type of behavior, men believe that they have more power. When
someone believes that they have more power than another person a pattern of
disrespect, and in the most extreme cases, physical and emotional abuse are likely to
follow. In Hamlet, Shakespeare contrasts two female leads of the play, Ophelia and
Gertrude, through reduction to appearance, instrumentality, and silencing in order to
show that during this time period, the objectification of women in the play was
parallel to the objectification of women during renaissance England.
In Hamlet, Shakespeare contrasts the two female leads of the play through
reduction to appearance to show that the objectification of women is a reflection of
renaissance gender bias. Reduction to appearance is the treatment of a person
primarily in terms of how they look, or how they appear to the senses. One example
of Hamlet s disgust with the fact that his mother married his uncle, almost
immediately after his dad died. He isn t worried

Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, made four voyages across the Atlantic
Ocean; one in 1492, one in 1493, another in 1498, and his last in 1502. King
Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Aragon and Castille approved his first voyage to the
new world in 1492. Originally, Christopher Columbus thought that he could find a
shorter, much easier passage to India from Spain by cutting across the Atlantic Ocean.
He first landed in modern day Watling Island, Bahamas. He met natives that lived
there and thought he was in India, so he called them Indians. This is why we called
Native Americans Indians. Columbus used many different devices to assist him on
his voyages to the Americas in his four trips across the Atlantic Ocean, such as a

continue to expand with new ideas and new inventions everyday. The voyage of
Christopher Columbus was long, hard, and treacherous with the technology that was
used. With modern day technology this voyage would have been simpler, faster, and
less troublesome for
13. Good Communication Is Essential For A Strong Relationship
Communication Good communication is essential for a strong relationship to
function. Cox and Demmitt referenced McCubbin and associates in regards to eight
factors that showed good communication skills (p. 113). Foundation blocks must be
met in order to achieve good communication (p. 116). There are five major skills
needed for an effective communicating relationship which include identifying
problemownership, self assertion, empathic listening, negotiating, and problem
solving. Cox and Demmitt state, Communication of support, affirmation,
appreciation, caring, respect, and interest in other family members is the lifeblood
of the successful family system (p.113). The eight essential skills of good
communication include the abilities to trust, confide, solve issues, show daily
affection, and find new ways to fix problems. Being able to share emotions,
converse, and spend time with friends, children, and parents are also vital abilities.
You should also know what others you care about are going through (p. 113).
The three foundation blocks are commitment, growth orientation, and noncoercive
atmosphere. Commitment means promising to be in a relationship with another
person and being able to maintain that bond through hard work, communication, and
dedication. Growth orientation means that you must be able to accept people as they
grow and change attitudes and interests. As people mature, they often discover their
needs change. Partners in a relationship need to be able to

departing guests revealed that they were not satisfied with the quality.
Consequentially, Sharon proposes to her boss, George, a new marketingstrategy. It

George cannot afford to ignore Susan s proposal. As a manager, George should call
a meeting with his finance team and shareholders. Working with Susan, he should
craft out a proposal for both options and see which one is more financial feasible
choosing either solution A or B. Based on the response from the meeting George
would start the process of formally creating the pizza restaurant. Conclusion
George s response must be carefully thought out and planned with an honest marketer
or marketing firm. The possibility of retributive justice by even one customer who
feels wronged, can do damage to both the Inn and the pizza restaurant. Deceptive
advertising is not a practice that any business should involve itself in. Apart from
damaging the trust relationship with customers, it is

Mal
One of the most famous poems of Charles Baudelaire Les Fleurs du mal , he
introduces the term Flaneur. Meaning stroller or anbler, this word has no literal
explanation in the English language. FlГўneur is a person who generally moves
around on the streets. Baudelaire, in one of his earliest poems, The Sun which
depicted the spontaneous quality of frolic through the city: Along the old outskirts of
town, where Venetian blinds in hovel hide secret lecheries, when the cruel sun strikes
with redoubled ray town and country, rooftop and wheatfield, I go to practice by
myself my whimsical swordsmanship, sniffing at any corner for chance rhymes,
tripping over words like curbs, bumping sometimes into lines long sought in dreams.
FlГўneur strays around the city to understand the secretive bliss in its earliest
embodiment. The poetic creativity here is considered as the origin of capital. The
stroller or the artist can happily forget about the worries when on the streets and here
he even finds the rhythm and expression to nourish his poetry. In later
demonstrations, Flaneur is filled with separation, sorrow and spleen as it has been
described. Paris was considered to be the most typical lieu d exil, which was the
emblem of the barren status of modernity. Flaneur goes through an intense
namelessness which lines the personality of the flГўneur. The skill of the Flaneur lies
in his craft of converting the spleen , discontent and agony into bliss.

In America s history, slaves were widely used to assist with tasks, mostly on
plantations. The first African slaves were brought to the Jamestown colony in 1619
to aid in growing tobacco, and pretty soon more and more people wanted slaves of
their own. During the 1700s, six to seven million slaves came to America. But as
long as slaverywas in the United States, slaves were dissatisfied with their lives and
wanted to escape. In the 1780s, George Washington complained of a runaway slave
who had been aided by a society of Quakers, formed for [helping slaves escape]. This

Allison Gray in her article How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets to
Suffer, offers a harsh critique that animal shelters hold a very strict adoption process
by not allowing unqualified pet owners to adopt. She argues that adoption shelters
want to find the perfect owner, but the perfect owner does not exist by her claims.
Therefore, pets are not adopted out and are left to suffer in animal shelters. With the
guidelines for pet adoption already in place she states that most pets were not adopted
out because prospecting owners had an intact pet at home, their current pet was
overdue for vaccines and they wanted an outdoor cat. She exudes that it is the
shelters harsh policies that are keeping pets from being adopted out and finding their
forever home.
In my view, however, it is the owners, and not the shelters fault that unwanted pets
swarm animal shelters. While it is true that some shelters can be over zealous with
adoption rules, it is still the owners fault that these animals ended up in animal
control in the first place. According to the American Humane Society over 29% of
pets are returned to animal shelters simply because a person s place of residence
does not allow pets (2). This means that the prospecting owner lied on the application
to adopt. Steve Bruno in his article Rescue Me informs that Rescue dogs suffer from

22. Massachusetts And Virginia Essay
The concept of freedom in Massachusetts and Virginia
During the 1600s when England began colonizing in the New World, different
colonies had their own concept of freedom backed by their beliefs and/ or motives
for settling in America. Massachusetts and Virginia were settled for very different
reasons therefore life in their settlements differed greatly. The political, economic,
social and of course physical aspects of the colonies were not at all the same, yet
they both resulted in their colonies prospering and successfully settling the land. The
settlers of each colony had searched for a place to express two contrasting beliefs of
what freedom meant to them. Massachusetts and Virginiaare two prime examples of
how freedom can mean something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With religious reforms causing controversy in England came the Puritans, known
for their simplicity in their way of life. They wore basic clothing and were against
consumption of alcohol and sex (unless married). With the disagreements of the
religious conflicts happening in England, the puritans wanted to purify the Church
of England from within. The sole reason the idea sparked to settle a colony in
America was in search of a Puritan lifestyle and the freedom to do so. On March 4,
1629 King Charles gave the Massachusetts Bay Company a charter while not
knowing the true nature of what this colony was to become and for the reasons
behind it. Still, the Puritans left for America in March 1630. In contrast to the type
of people who immigrated to Virginia, the Massachusetts population was mostly
nuclear families, meaning husband, wife, and kids. Also differing from the
colonists in Virginia, the settlers in Massachusetts Bay worked together for the
common good of the colony. Along with their lives and beliefs, their government
and politics were religiously based as well and soon they decided upon a
Congregationalism form of church government. Their churches were a matter of
choice but in order to become a member they had a strict regulation In order to join
one (a church) a man or woman had to provide testimony a confession of faith
before neighbors who already had been admitted as full members. Because religion

23. Violence And Destruction By Ray Bradbury
Violence and Destruction
A recent study by the American Psychological Association showed that there is a
direct relationship between the amount of violent media parents present to their
children and the amount of aggressive behavior they will display later. Another study
by the Psychiatric Times stated that the amount of violence shown regularly has
become dangerous and unrealistic. As a society, we have become obsessed and
infatuated with violence. Whether it be in action movies, or in studies about how
harmful it is, we can t stop thinking about it. Destruction is one of the significant
issues impacting us today. Ray Bradbury starts his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451,

There are countless articles about how the next generations will be so different
than the one before them, that they are less intelligent, less independent and most
importantly, more violent. We often look back at the civilizations before we
existed as less than or worse than us. They were less intelligent, less moral, less
fair, and ultimately they were a product of their time. They didn t know any better.
However, when looking back at them, we often forget those who were protesting,
who were speaking up, and who were expressing their beliefs the best way they
could. Whether that be through standing in the streets or taking it to the press, there
have always been people willing to fight. One of our best lenses to look at the past is
literature. Authors used their words to inspire and move people to stand up and make
a difference in all different time periods. The book Animal Farm by George Orwell
challenged the communist movement that he saw unfolding around him during the
40s. Even earlier than that, Thomas Paine published a pamphlet called Common
Sense, which called the American people into immediate action against what he
believed was a tyrannical rule by the British in 1775. Almost all dystopian novels are
a warning for humanity, pointing out the flaws in their systems and the terrible,
inevitable future. Those predictions are always taken from the world around them,
what the author is seeing and experiencing in real time. That s why

The media helps to construct national identity and loyal national subjects. Discuss.
Introduction
In the twenty first century, the media has been transformed into a highly influential
tool and segmented to aspects such as print, broadcast, film, outdoor and internet etc.
The relationship between the media and construction of national identity is apparent
with distinctive representation of nationalism in news coverage of politics,
celebrations, tourism and country heritage (Leong, 2001).
National identity is the transmission of each generation s legacy to the next and the
enabling of the nation citizen to take pride and identification of the country (Stephan,
2009). A nation positive unique identity breeds patriotism which consequently...

As such the Singapore flag, pledge and anthem together with the National Day visual
display of patriotism and flags on the building are promoted daily in schools and

Therefore, it can be seen that media in Singapore are essential tools to promote
national identity while supporting the ruling party political regime. Singapore then
Prime Minister proposed that the press should support national goals and he states
that: we want mass media to reinforce, not undermine, the cultural values and social
attitudes being inculcated in out school and universities (Lee, 1971). For that reason,
most of Singapore media today is under control of the government or government
linked corporations and are the principal instrument in creating social and political
stability as well as advocating government policies and instilling nationalism (Leong,
2001).
Also, the government uses Roger Protection Motivation theory (Severin Tankard
1992, p.159) by arousing fear to help influence the cognition, attitude and behaviors
intention through the severity, probability and efficacy of an event (Rogers, 1983).
Fear appeal like self censorship; out of bound markers and hefty defamation suit are
used extensively to control the media and prevent dissenting criticism or anything
that will deconstruct the nation identity and subject loyalty.

26. The Development of Attachment Essay
The Development of Attachment 1. Outline the development of attachment
According to Shaffer, the development of attachment can be divided into four main
phases. Other researchers have then added two additional stages to this original
theory.
В· Pre Attachment Phase from birth to 3 months. From 6 weeks the baby develops an
attraction to other humans, especially adults in preference to other objects. This can
be illustrated through social behaviours like gurgling, reaching out and smiling.
В· Indiscriminate Attachment Phase from 3 to 7 months. The infant begins to show
preference for familiar over un familiar people. However, a stranger looking at them

Infants are considered to be attached to someone when they display the following:
В· Distress at separation
В· Preferring the company of this one individual
В· Seeking this person at times of stress.
There are many recognized theories of attachment, each outlining in many different
ways exactly why a child will become attached to a certain adult. I am going to
outline two of these explanations in more detail.
Cupboard Love Theory Sigmund Freud
Incorporating the psychoanalytic and behaviourist explanations.
At the turn of the century, the treatment of new born babies was regarded as having
little significance for later life, as babies were thought to be immune to influence.
This idea, like many others prevalent at that time, was attacked by Sigmund Freud.
He believed that the relationship a child has with its mother is a prototype on which
all future relationships are based.
According to Freud s psychoanalytic theory a child becomes attached to its mother
because she is its source of food; hence she gratifies its most basic instinctual and
psychological needs. Freud states that the primary drive is for food and as the
mother is associated with food, she becomes desired by the infant in her own right. In
the normal course of growing up, the child comes to accept that this psychosexual
relationship can not be, and as

Critically analyse both the roles of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet and the
relationship between them. Discuss whether the Government s involvement in the
performance of the functions of Parliament is appropriate or excessive for a system
of checks and balances
This essay will start with a brief introduction on the duties of the Prime Minister and
his Cabinet and how they conjunct, following by an explanation on how the system
of check and balances works as well as to examine if the powers are distributing
accordingly.
The Prime Minister
The Prime Minister is the chairman of the cabinet as well as the head of the
British government, a person who is most likely to be the leader of the majority
party in the House of Commons and is directly appointed by the monarch to the
office of Prime Minister. He or she acts as the face and voice of the government in
front of the media and has assumed responsibility for all the decisions and policies
made by the body.
The PM s duties mainly fall into three areas. He is the chief executive, the chief
ambassador, a link between the government and the sovereign. As the chief of the
executive branch, an organ devoted to governance the country and authorised to
executes or enforces law drawn up by the legislature, he is responsible for overseeing
and organizing the work of various government departments that deals with a great
diversity of governmental matters such as running the National Health Service or
controlling immigration.

30. The Popularity Of The Fast Food Industry
While the idea of eating outside of the home has been around for a considerable
length of time, the fast food industry as we probably am aware it didn t get its begin
until the post WWII American financial blast. Americans started to spend
increasingly and purchase more as the economy blasted and a society of consumerism
blossomed. As an aftereffect of this new yearning to have everything, combined with
the steps made by ladies while the men were away, both individuals from the family
unit started to work outside the home. Eating out, which had beforehand been viewed
as an extravagance, turned into a typical event and after that a need. Laborers, and
working families, required snappy administration and modest nourishment for both
lunch and supper. This need is the thing that drove the amazing accomplishment of
the early fast foodgoliaths, which took into account the family on the go. As the fast
foodindustry started booming, they were the main source of part time job for
teenagers. In late 1970 s, a staggering one out of eight US citizens were employed
by McDonalds. In the mid 1970s as the nourishment business extended it turned out
to be more aggressive setting off the Burger Wars of the 80s and 90s. Toward the
start of the 21st century the business sector experienced another seismic movement as
espresso chains and quick causal eateries rose as genuine contenders to bigger fast
food chains. Brands like Starbucks, Chipotle, and Panera were introduced into the
industry.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy
both deal with social class and the presence of suffocating social norms. The themes
of these two novels are embodied in their women. The female characters in both
Jude the Obscure and Great Expectations can be divided into two categories: the
elevated woman and the grounded woman. How these characters operate within the
confines of the novel, however, are reversed. In Jude, Arabella is the grounded
woman, who ultimately leads to Jude s ruin, and Sue is the elevated woman, a
woman of reason and education and the woman he loves. Meanwhile, in Great

32. Analysis Of Miss Lonelyhearts And The Day Of The Locust
In Miss Lonelyhearts and The Day of the Locust, each character experiences
suffering, and in each case the suffering is ridiculed. Schadenfreude is a basic
human experience; human beings do find humor in other s misfortune. Society is so
accustomed to the feeling of schadenfreude that hardly anyone knows exactly where
it comes from or how distasteful it is. Society feeds schadenfreude of physical pain
by letting it reside throughout comedy. Almost every comedic movie, show, song,
sketch or any other form of entertainment is cluttered with people being hurt. Harry
Greener s clown show in The Day of the Locust is completely centered around his
pain. When he stands up, the audience, which failed to laugh at his joke, laughs at his
limp, so he continues lame for the rest of the act, (West, The Day 78). The entire
comedy genre thrives off of schadenfreude. Perhaps this is because the audience
knows that the subject is not truly hurt, so it becomes funny to see people such as
Curly, Moe, and Larry beat each other. Perhaps it is because people use laughter as a
shield against pain. When people see pain they laugh to make it seem that it did not
actually hurt. It is a product of empathy for him who was hurt. Laughter serves to
camouflage embarrassment which is included in empathy. The ways in which
characters receive injuries are usually embarrassing, and the audience feels the
embarrassment causing them to laugh.
Schadenfreude is embedded in human emotions such as envy,

34. Driving And Drinking And Driving
There are already laws in effect that are not being utilized as well as they could be.
Sobriety checkpoints are effective, but only when they are used. There are also
interlock systems that can be installed in a vehicle when a person has been drinking
and driving. However, not every person that is caught drinking and drivingis required
to have this system installed in their vehicle. There is also an idea that if you are
involved in an accident the policeman on the scene can ask to see your phone and
if there is proof that you were on your phone at the time of the accident you will be
at fault. Ralph Hingson, director of the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention
Research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse states, Meanwhile, some
valuable tools are not being used. Sobriety checkpoints and effective in reducing
drinking and driving if they are publicized, so they can serve as a deterrent, says
Hingson (Kinnerly par 19).
If the legal driving age was raised, seatbelt laws were made the priority, speed limits
were lowered, safety features were mandatory in all vehicles, and laws were
enforced there would be fewer accidents. If these ideas were put into action,
imagine what the fatality rates would look like if the leading causes of fatal
accidents were fixed or changed. We could fix what self driving cars claim they will
fix without the self driving car its self, making the need for these cars unnecessary.
It has been proven that self driving cars will have

Voting is perhaps one of the easiest ways to participate in politics, yet it is the one
task Americans fail to do. After conducting this survey, I had quite a variety of
responses regarding voting participation, fortunately, the majority did exercise their

because they knew how important it was if they wanted to have a say in their
government. Which was something that I did not expect mainly because I usually
hear people complain about the government, yet they do not even attempt to get
involved with politics to try to change what they dislike. Another finding was that all
the survey participants were aware that votingwith a majority party was a safe bet if

archetype but also embodies female archetypal characteristics. Additionally, the fire
she symbolizes throughout the novel signifies her characterand what she represents to
the people of Panam.
Katniss is a hero because she risked and sacrificed her own life for her family,
friends, and district. An archetype hero is defined as a figure, often larger than life,
whose search for identity and/or fulfillment results in their quest. The hero typically
undergoes a journey or quest that begins when something traumatic happens in
their life forcing them to leave home, and is prepared to make sacrifices to make
sure that others are kept safe. This is shown when Katniss sacrifices herself by
taking her sister s place in the games to keep her safe. Even though it s hard because

40. Pos-335 Individual Assignment File Management Paper
Introduction
The task of implementing a protection scheme that will provide controlled access
to specific files in a system is not only an important but also a necessary task to
ensure that the integrity as well as the availability of that file is maintained
throughout. This paper is designed to put into perspective a protection scheme to
facilitate the scenario where a system has 5000 user and 4990 of those users will
need to have access to a particular file within the system. It will also provide clarity
on Access control list (ACL s) their roles as well as the different flavors available. It
will also try to prove that proper implementation and utilizations of groups within a
security scheme provides not only organization and ... Show more content on

Access control list provides greater control over file permissions which traditional
UNIX files permissions falls short.
Groups
Creating and assigning users to groups in a protection scheme is not only a
recommendation but also a standard for control all modern operating system. Users
and machines alike can be assigned to groups and that group is then placed on ACLs
as if they are individual users. Every group member inherits all the permissions
granted to that group on the ACL. This assignment of users and machines to groups
will solve many problems when addressing security issues, one such issue would be
the assignment of permissions to massive number of people rather than individually
Groups permissions are managed by the ACL that grants the user the permissions
assigned by the ACL to take actions on objects. These permissions can be assigned
fixed actions for a given group. For example, a User in the Accounts group could
only submit, manage and view data pertaining to the accounts department. Someone
in the Sales group also would only be able to view customer information, add or
remove products or services from the customer account, etc. Permissions also can be
set where there is an all or nothing, parameter where a member of a group manages
files across multiple ACLs. For example the HR group can manage files associated
with all employees from every department. Actions and permissions assigned
41. Anatomical Connections Between Hypothalamic OT
Neurons And...
Overview: The proposed work is designed to unravel detailed anatomical connections
between hypothalamic OT neurons and distal brain neurons (Aim1 and 2) and their
function in the CLA EPd complex in order to begin understanding how this signaling
system regulates social behavior (Aim3). We plan to combine our novel brain
mapping tools with genetic and viral tools to examine neural connection of OT
neurons, along with behavioral assays to begin learning how the OT signaling system
controls social behavior.
Specific Aim1. Determine topographical output projection from OT expressing
neurons of the hypothalamus.
Scientific Premise and Rationale: OT producing neurons in the hypothalamus project
to different brain regions where they release OT to ... Show more content on

Feasibility and Preliminary Results
3D distribution of OT neurons in the hypothalamus: We used knock in mice
expressing Cre recombinase under OT promoter (OT Cre, developed by Gloria
Choi s lab at MIT)[29] crossed with Cre dependent reporter mice (CAG LoxP Stop
LoxP tdTomato, called Ai14 )[31]. Four week old mice were perfused and imaged
by serial two photon tomography (Figure 2). We performed the imaging
registration of the 3D reconstructed brain to the common reference brain in order to
display the precise 3D location of OT neurons (Figure 2A)[25]. and observed the
strong expression in PVH, SO, accessory nuclei (AN) and tuberal nucleus (TU) of
hypothalamus (Figure 2), consistent with previous finding [11].
Immunohistochemistry using a specific OT antibody further confirmed that the
tdTomato signal from the Cre recombinase positive neurons is overlapped well
with OT immuno positive neurons (Figure 2C). Figure 2. 3D pattern of
hypothalamic OT neurons. (A) Top view of the tdTomato signal from OT

registration to the reference brain. The 3D view is from the purple box area of the
reference brain in the insert. (B) Zoom in 3D view of OT neurons in PVH from the

anterior posterior axis. (C) tdTomato (+) neurons from
42. Social Media And Social Isolationism
There is a reason that AA meetings and other addiction recovery programs are face
to face and not virtual. This is because human beings are innately social and
therefore, can perform actions for the betterment of themselves and others.
Without this face to face contact that social media encourages, people, like
Timothy, find themselves being swallowed up by the effects social isolationism
has on one s physical and physiological well being, however as we will see later on,
social media can be extremely beneficial in helping those with social isolationism.
The dangers The effects of social isolationism can be devastating both physically
and psychologically. In the physical aspect, people who suffer from social
isolationism find themselves feeling like they have less energy, and vitality in life.
They simply don t feel up to the tasks at hand and are tired all the time. Social
isolationism can also affect how many times we get sick and how our bodies heal.
For example, those who suffer from this find that when they are injured or sick,
that their bodies take considerably longer to recover and to feel normal as well as
they find themselves getting sick or injured more often than others. Moreover, there
is also a greater likelihood of chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, and
cancer. Life spans can be shortened considerably and the general thoughts and feeling
about life are negative and unhappy. Social isolationism has also been linked to at the
other end of the
43. Getting to Know Hiromi Uehara
She often wears a strange, (but seems to be her personal characteristic), hairstyle to
get on stage. She always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her
fingers dance on the piano. She is intelligent and mischievous with endless musical
whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that brings all the surprise to us, along with
her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is Hiromi Uehara.
She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to
classical techniques, she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in
improvisation trainings. At the age of 12, she started to perform on stage and by the
age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play with him in the next day
concert.
In Hiromi s career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as
Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick
Corea duet on Hiromi s piece Old Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest
(2007). In comparison of these two great jazz musicians, Corea insists on his lyrical
jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic. (Chick Hiromi, 2008). This
combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths, surprise audiences
with their delicate musical ideas.
Here is another recording of Hiromi performing I got rhythm ; she dedicated this
work to Oscar Peterson. Just like her words in an interview with Anil Prasad in 2008
I really have to respect the song to
44. Summary Of J. Smart s Extreme Vs. Restricted
Utilitarianism
J.J.C. Smart
Who is J.J.C. Smart and what does he teaches us about utilitarianism? However, after
reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that there s
two kinds of utilitarianism s. The first one is extreme utilitarianism. The second one
is restricted utilitarianism. However, in my opinion extreme utilitarianism is the right
act. In addition, Smart was the defender of extreme utilitarianism. These are mainly
what J.J.C. Smart talks about in his work. First and foremost, after reading Extreme
vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that these two kinds of
utilitarianism s are somewhat similar but not as much. First, he opens by separating
extreme and restricted utilitarianism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Extreme (ACT) utilitarianism follows rules of thumb and their guidelines.
In other words Smart states that rules of thumb promote particular actions that are
very important to people. In addition, according to Smart, rules of thumb can be
broken. These are all the interesting facts about rules of thumb and what they are and
what they mean. To wrap it all up, according to smart, the main difference between
extreme and restricted utilitarianism is that restricted utilitarians hold that conformity
to rules determines right action and extreme utilitarians do not. In addition,
according to extreme utilitarianism, if someone does a morally right action, then
they do not commit themselves to one version or another. On the other hand, smart
mentions moral rules and how they are rules of thumb; well what he means by that
is that rules of thumb are rules that can be useful but do not always tell us what we
should do. I will now talk about my opinion about both Restricted and Extreme
utilitarianism s. To me they are very much similar and there is a very little difference
between both theories. I say that because when it comes to both articles, at the end
they both promote the most utility for the majority. In other word they both go there
different way but at the end of the day they are both the same thing and not much of
a difference is
45. Freshman Seminar
It started out as required community service. Fifty hours of required community
service for four years. The odd times I helped out in my school s pre K led to an
opportunity to volunteer in the after school program for kids every weekday, and
that became my plan for almost every day of my high school career. In my first year
of high school, I took a mandatory course called Freshman Seminar. Truthfully, I
don t remember much of it except for one moment sometime in December. That
day, my teacher told the class about a mom of five kids who attended our school
and had suddenly died from an aneurysm. My school is small, but I didn t recognize
the name. I thought this news was sad but didn t consider dwelling on it. In the next
few days of the
