This project involves managing DND real property and other spatial data provided by DND bases and wings across Canada through a unique, integrated and standardized Real Property Spatial Data Warehouse (RPSDW), hosted at MCE, containing a SQL Server database. Data provided by DND bases and wings must meet standards defined and documented by ADMIE, in terms of data formats accepted (GeoMedia MDB, ArcGIS FGDB, MapInfo MIF or AutoCAD SDF), geometry, schema and attribute data types, domains and accepted values for each feature class. An FME workspace and an equivalent tool contained within an ArcGIS Data Interoperability Toolbox were created to provide the geotechs from DND Bases using ArcGIS Data Interoperability or FME Desktop with a toolset, delivered together with a user’s guide, that allows them to perform a self-validation of the DND real property and other spatial data before these data is sent to MCE to be loaded into the RPSDW SQL Server database.

Database Comparison and ArcMap Data Driven Pages
When working with databases of large sewer systems, it is important to document the changes to the database over time. Ramboll have developed a tool in FME, that not only document changes between database versions, but also generates maps of the updated objects using Data Driven Pages in ArcMap. The comparison tells which objects and attributes that have changed, keeping both the old and new attribute value. When generating the maps, the most critical attributes are labelled for a quick visual comparison. But for deeper insight of the changes, all updated attributes are saved in the comparison database.
FME: Not Just for ETL
FME is typically used to exchange data, but it can also be used as a powerful tool to automate the transformation of spatial data into technical CAD diagrams. In this presentation I will show how I embedded FME into an application process to create on-the-fly AutoCAD diagrams for communication manholes. This involves determining the local spatial reference, calculating the extents required, clipping the data, creating labels for the data, filtering the data to set line colors and styles, and then exporting the file using linked workspaces.

Real Property Management at DND using FME
This document discusses how the Department of National Defence (DND) uses FME software to manage its real property information. DND has distributed real property data from various sources that needs to be fused together to understand assets. FME is currently used for data translation and migrating legacy data to geodatabases. Future plans include using FME for CAD to GIS migration, building information modeling support, and enforcing data standards by transferring data between levels into a central warehouse. Examples demonstrated include converting CAD files to geodatabases and building information files to CSV and 3D PDF formats.

How TN-ITs and FME helped HERE with UniMap Stay on the Speed Limit
As a leading company in the field of Maps&Navigation services, our team faced a significant challenge in keeping up with the latest safety European regulations for motor vehicles concerning their Intelligent Speed Assistant (ISA) systems. To comply with these high requirements (that will be mandatory for EU Member States to share map updates), we needed a solution that would allow HERE Maps to update navigable attributes from our road network database in multiple countries quickly and accurately. We turned to TN-ITS and FME's software to help us achieve our goals.
The TN-ITS Platform is a multi-stakeholder association coordinated by ERTICO to support EU Policy on Map Update Exchange. The TN-ITS Platform links road operators with digital map providers to facilitate map updates, with a focus on speed limits, in a standardized way. Seen this platform as an API, providing a standardized way for national authorities to share data with third-party parties. Consequently, it enabled us to receive and bring up-to-date information about road attributes, such as speed limits and traffic signs, from national authorities in multiple countries. FME enabled us to process and integrate this data seamlessly into our end-user navigation systems in an automated way.
Our success with TN-ITS and FME's software was not without its challenges. We had to navigate complex technical requirements to establish data exchange with national authorities in multiple countries through the TN-ITS schema. We also had to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data we received and processed. However, FME allowed us to bridge the gap between different national authorities, streamlining our data processing workflows, eradicating any manual intervention, and increasing efficiency on road attributes from different countries. Summing up, the scope achieved with the connection, data load, filtering, attribute comparison and data storage into local databases.
At Bonn’s conference, we will share our experience of this journey, and our goal is to inspire other FME users to leverage the power of FME with data interaction along different protocols and data schemas.
METRO NTD FINAL Presentation Last revision
This senior design project aimed to streamline METRO's processes for collecting and submitting service data to the National Transit Database. The team documented METRO's current multi-step process, which involved manually transferring data from multiple sources. They developed VBA macros to automate data extraction from Trapeze software reports and standardized contractor reporting. This reduced processing time by 67-69% and eliminated manual errors. The new standardized processes are now used for monthly data collection and support more efficient National Transit Database reporting.
