Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, And Feminism

Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, and Feminism Feminism. It s a big concept in society today, but has
it always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own
experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true
love and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man
dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and
love. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black
feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her
womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are
faced through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with
what feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is
to achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is,
women worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social
structure prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge,
ideas, ethics and other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family,
women are also in a position of inequality with men. Feminism

Swimmingpool Co Pty Ltd employs Martin as the manager of their Tasmanian sales division.
Martin is to quote to potential customers the cost of installing the various pools that the company
offers, to draw up any new contracts on behalf of the company and further to ensure that a deposit
is paid by potential customers, monies which are then deposited in the company s bank account.
Martin is on a fixed salary but his contract of employment allows for the payment of a bonus if he
exceeds his annual target of signing new customers.
The company is very impressed with Martin in the first month of his employment; he has signed at
least 20 new customers and work has begun on at least half of the new projects signed.

Employer will be held liable if an employee does an authorized act in an unauthorized way which is
the actual scenario here in this case study.
Employers are also liable under the common law principle represented in the Latin phrase, qui facit
per aliumfacit per se (one who acts through another acts in one s own interests). That is a parallel
concept to vicarious liability and strict liability, in which one person is held liable in criminal law
or tort for the acts or omissions of another and so will be the case here with employee being the
former and employer being the latter.
2. Can the company claim they are not liable for Martin because he has not followed instructions?
Explain.
Under federal anti discrimination law an employer, regardless of their size, may be legally
responsible for any misconduct on the part of its employee unless and unless it can be show and
prove that all reasonable steps have already been taken to ensure the reduction of this liability.
The law mentioned above clearly explains how Swimmingpool Co. can actually claim itself to
be free of any responsibility on the part of the employee s mistake. If it proves it to show all
reasonable steps without fail is the only condition under which all discriminations are neglected
and no supervisor is held responsible for its subordinate because it is the prime duty of every
employer to ensure that he is hiring the right person

If Hitchcock Auteur Analysis
The auteur theory holds that a director s hand is clearly and consistently evident in their work,
regardless of involvement in the rest of the production process. It s not uncommon for artists to
have a signature or quirk Author Stephen King uses simplistic writing and significant world
building to frame his often dark and fantastical stories, and some painters choose to put their own
hair or saliva into their work rather than a signature. In the same way, an auteur s films have an
instantly recognizable atmosphere, motif, or even color palette and, just as importantly, such an
impression can give insight into an auteur s life and mind, lending that much more weight to a body
of work. Two such auteurs are thriller and suspense master... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His films are known for their heavy surrealism and dream imagery, things that fascinated Lynch, as
he feels that waking dreams are the most important kind, and the closest you can get to showing an
audience your dreams is through film. Lynch is obsessed with the dark underbelly of otherwise
cheery landscapes, like the little suburbs he grew up in. He felt that beneath the veneer of
pleasant suburban life was a black ooze that would be visible if only you could find a crack
through which to peer. We look again to Blue Velvet, which features a young man (Jeffery) who
seems to be the embodiment of pure curiosity, and who plunges himself into a world of
incredible darkness and violence during a visit with his ill father. The film opens with him
coming across a severed ear in a field, and the camera spirals downward into the severed ear s
canal before cutting to the next shot. Every event thereafter is nearly unbelievable; he happens
upon a tortured jazz singer whose family has been taken captive and who is raped and beaten
repeatedly by a grotesque drug kingpin named Frank. The young man finds all of this out from
watching her from a closet face lined by the shadows cast by the slats in the door, giving him the
appearance of being behind bars as he absrobs the horror before him, now a voyeur himself.
Everything is unreal, from Frank s almost insect like appearance constantly sticking an oxygen
mask over his pinched face to inhale some kind of ether to Rosselini s character making a
disturbingly violent sexual advance toward Jeffery. The action is punctuated by a love scene, but
not one that is tender or appealing. Lynch slows and blurs the subjects on film so that actions are
not clearly visible, and the sound is slowed down immensely so that any noises made by the lovers
are rendered monstrous and grating. The shot reads like a dream or a nightmare, but not anything

Executive Cash Compensation As The Proxy For The Ceo s...
Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion
(Rogers, 2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are
more likely to become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid
risk. I measure cash compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural
logarithm bonus. Following existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002)
the sensitivity of CEO wealth to stock price is also included as an additional control variables
for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive
relationship between firm size and CEO risk taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total
sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical studies show that growth opportunities are also
expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and
Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier compensation studies, the market to
book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities. In contrast, leverage is expected to
be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers, 2002). Financial leverage
increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is lesser need to provide
the CEO with a risk taking incentive. I utilize the debt ration (book value of debt to book value of
assets) as a proxy for leverage (Rogers, 2002). Similar to

Research Paper On Solon
Solon
Solon was a philosopher and poet. There were not very many things about Solon. However, he
sounded like a curious person to write on. In doing this research, Solon had a very interesting life
during his eighty years and helped change the Athenian government in many ways. Solon was born
638B.C. in Athens, Greece. He died in 558 B.C. in Cyprus. He was mostly known as an Athenian
statesman, a law reformer, and a really talented poet. He became somewhat of a mythical founding
father figure that had set Athens on their path of glory during the Classical period. 1 He helped lay
the groundwork for the Athenian democracy, helping lower class citizens rise up in political areas.
Most of his poems that he was credited for are just fragments now, but, they were very thought
provoking poems.Solon and his family belonged to a noble clan. There is not much information
available about Solon s family. What is known is that his family was a very small one. They
came from moderate wealth, although their lineage could possibly be traced back to the last King
of Athens. His father s name was Execestides. Not much is known about his mother. Solon only
had one brother, no other siblings. His brother s name was Dropides, who was an ancestor (six
generations removed) of Plato2. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

significant for his personal records of his reforms and attitudes.10 Only fragments remain of his
poetry and writing, but they total about 280 verses. He had some really good poetry. Most of his
poems were written with a strong sense of fairness. It is possible that Solon backed up this poetic
bravado with true valor on the battlefield.11 When Solon was fighting in wars with his army, he
had written many poems. Some of these poems were used to encourage his troops to fight well. For
Solon, it gave him strength to fight, and courage that they could win the war with

The Agile Software Development Process Essay
Motivation Over the last several years, agile software development processes have become
increasingly popular. According to Fowler (2003), the agile software engineering processes attempt
to enable more flexible and adaptive software development than the traditional software engineering
processes offer. Agile practitioners consider documentation as an important aspect for their projects
but there is too little internal documentation available in their projects (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011).
Although the documentation is mentioned, it is not anchored in the original process that relies on
verbal communication (Schwaber and Beedle, 2001). Verbal communication is susceptible to
lapses of memory and after some time it gets progressively harder to recall design rationale. This
problem is compounded by team turnaround (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). The main objective of
documenting a project is to instruct consumers about the structure of the system, its functionality,
operability and the design structure in case there is need to redesign the system. The primary
consumers of the design documentation are those who maintain or upgrade the system. Other
stakeholders, such as users, testers, and project managers may also need to know about the
system (Selic, B., 2009). However, according to Bran Selic, (2009) software developers do not
like to document, as it has no value for them. Even the agile manifesto, issued by the software
industry s avant garde, proclaims Working software

Samuel Clemens Biography Essay
Samuel L. Clemens was born on November 30, 1835. On this day Halley s comet blazed through
the night sky. Clemens notably mentioned that since he came along when the comet did, he shall
leave when the comet does. On April 21, 1910, the day the comet shined the brightest it had ever
shown, Clemens passed from a heart attack. Ironically, this was also the day that Halley s comet
made an exit from Earth s sight (Harper and Owens). Throughout the lifetime of the comet, Clemens
became an American icon in literature. With the pen name Mark Twain
, his humorous travel stories
brought him to fame as he left the occupation of a news reporter. Twain chose this pen name based
on his experiences from being a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. Crew men on the
steamboat would shout Mark Twain if the depth of water was enough for the boat to travel through
it. At the age of twenty seven,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt who adores him despite his childish actions throughout the
novel. On the other hand, Huckleberry Finn lives with a widow and her sister who do not

s dad had a savage life of abusing his child. Tom is forced to go to school and church by his aunt,

Although Tom is a troublesome child, he knows his limits and when to stop. He understands
how to be civilized, but he chooses not to be. Huck, on the other hand, has no ambition to be
civilized and may not have any idea on how to become civilized. It is clear that Tom is more
intelligent than Huck by the way it is portrayed in the novels of how the two boys talk and the
words they use. Twain proves that opposites attract in these novels by making Tom and Huck

Biography Of Karl Marx s Writing On Class Conflict
ociety is told that through hard work and dedication anyone can become successful.
Success in the United States is looked at as being a part of the elite. Though it may seem like the
status may easily be reached, this is not, in fact the case. Karl Marx s writing on class conflict
suggest otherwise. Class conflict is still very relevant in present day s society and can be seen
throughout the levels of class. In today s society you can see class conflict in the way that
working class is under paid such as fast food workers. Fast food workers are coming together and
striking for higher pay for the hard work that they so clearly do. The class conflict comes into
place because the owners don t want to keep their profit and so he continues ... Show more content

Instead workers believe that everyone has a significant part in the company and if they continue
to save they can also become elite. This is why Marx s states that it is important that workers are
class conscious. Class consciousness plays a role in society today like Marx had hoped it would.
Class consciousness brings awareness on the part of the working class of their common
relationship to the means of production (Marx 1844). Class consciousness is a social condition in
which members of a social class are actively aware of themselves as a class. This not only means
that they understand what class they fall under but it also brings awareness to the fact that some
workers are being exploited. These workers are mostly from the working class and include fast food
workers.
Today fast food workers are seeing that in order to see an increase in their pay they must come
together against the ruling class. The ruling Class (elite) are those that have the most money and
those who control production. It is clear the more money you have the more power you have.
Marx would not be surprised to hear about the many workers strikes that continue to happen
because workers feel that they are being under paid.
Class position plays a very important role in society today just as it had during Marx s time. Marx
states that Ideas about the world and the

Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing
Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the
effectiveness of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility
of the passage of a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore
democracy to American citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is
still hope in the power of the people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a
better democratic election, in a land of the people; the majority of the voting population should
control the few politicians that run the government.
Esenberg s beginning argument relies strongly on the evidence that the money spent on campaign
finance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is
desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more
powerful than the actual limit set.
Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that
the ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates
(Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering
donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates.
Reducing the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public
donations (Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union
members, which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger
corporations and Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are
also the ones who create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the
unlikelihood of incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats
(Esenberg, 2010).
For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be
put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to

In 1896, the New Women, whom were to depict the twentieth century female, came to P.T.
Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while
demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the
circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a
majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine
propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling
alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race,
class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of
clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved
shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude,
including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis
on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about
sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most
objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil
War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long
sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought
that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even
audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century,
American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for
prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). Because they were often
banned by law for their bodily

The Controversy On Whether Sweatshops Should Be Banned
INTRODUCTION
Sweatshops have been a popular and serviceable business, although there are a lot of controversy
on whether sweatshops should be banned and hows pay wages should be higher. Many people
believe that sweatshops are unfair, cruel and unlawful, whereas others think that sweatshops are a
second chance for many people living in developing countries. The dictionary definition of a
sweatshop is factory or workshop, especially in the clothing industry, where manual workers are
employed at very low wages for long hours and under poor conditions, it is defined by the US
Department of Labor as a factory that violates 2 or more labor laws. Sweatshops are a frequent
ordeal in many countries, all over the globe, with a variety of perspectives.

These changes later spread across the world, and together they became known as the Industrial
Revolution. By the 1850s, there were factories in many parts of Britain and around the world, and
large, busy towns were developing around them. Although the factory owners were growing
rich and lived in grand houses, the workers were paid very little and were extremely poor. They
lived in dirty, crowded parts of town, known as the slums. This was the beginning of sweatshop
history, With factory towns sprouting all over countries , many farm families left their land in
order to make money in the new cities. The factory workers lived in the slums; they shared
cramped living quarters with many other families in dirty and disease infested communities. Many
of the conditions just described seem to match with the well known ways of sweatshops now. This
proves how little sweatshops have developed. Many people would agree that this a sinking point
in the developing countries, but others would say that if the factories had improved more people
would be poor, and in

Income Inequality and Standard of Living in the United States
A characteristic of man that separates him from the majority of the animal world is his organization
of social and economic systems. Man, however, retains traits of his evolutionary ancestors in the
form of self preservation and greediness. While many political, economic, and social systems try to
eradicate this form of natural selection, capitalism and related economic structures preserve social
inequality in many forms. Historically, this preservation of financial inequality has achieved a
higher standard of living generally than systems originally formed and employed to achieve just
that.

Many privately owned companies exist in capitalist societies. The population is not vast enough to
carry all of these companies.
Everyone needs a house. Rich people poor people; all people are included. This is a problem,
because housing costs a great deal of money. Poor people that can barely afford food and
clothing also have a hard time finding reasonable housing. As a result, some live in unsafe and
unhealthy conditions that are badly in need of repair. Poor people live in the central city for two
different reasons. First, the farther away that you get from the central business district, the higher
your transportation costs to get to your job (assuming that the job is located in the CBD). If you
can not afford to commute to your work, you will be unable to keep your job, making you worse
off economically. Therefore, you would chose to locate your residence close to your place of
employment (closer to the CBD) in order to reduce your transportation costs. IF you live close
enough to your place of employment, you may not need to use any form of transportation other
then your feet, which doesn t cost you anything but your time.
The second reason has to do with where new houses are built. New homes are built on land that was
previously undeveloped, usually located on the outer edge of the residential district, furthest away
from the central business district. The wealthiest people move into these new homes, leaving the
upper middle

Hypersexualized Images
Mental disorders and hypersexualized images. Regarding other influences and impacts of photo
manipulation on body images and beauty, Day (2014) states that the three most common mental
disorders caused by photo manipulation are eating disorder, depression and low self esteem.
Furthermore, she lists out several statistics and surveys that prove its negativity on human
beings: 80% of women feel worse about themselves after seeing a beauty ad and people as young
as thirteen begin to feel unsatisfied about their body and how they look. As shocking as it is, a
study included in Day s (2014) article states that adolescent girls are more afraid of gaining weight
than getting cancer, losing their parents or nuclear war. Photo manipulation also creates a
hypersexualized issue: A study done in 2011 by the journal Sexuality and Culture shows that 2%
of men and 61% of women are hypersexualized (Nelson, 2012, p.180). Retouched photos are
continuously used as sex sales and convey the wrong definition of sexy that is almost unreachable

Summary Of The Feminine Mystique
In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that
has no name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect
lives ? Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the
feminine mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man,
be a housewife and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been
told their whole lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off
husband and start a family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than
just waiting on their family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of
life. However, society does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the
mystique into women s heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines,
ads, signs, etc. Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage
themselves, but their husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too
much sexual intercourse, which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s
lives, that they grow up to be whiny, mother dependent adults. In the end, women finally begin to
not only question the feminine mystiquebut act against it. Moreover, throughout the story, Friedan s
style uses conflict development and

Every year more and more patients are diagnosed with renal failure. In hemodialysis the amount of
dialysis each patient receives is less, compared to at home dialysis and nocturnal dialysis treatments.
Kidneys are important organs for survival. Humans cannot filter harmful wastes, fluids, salts,
potassium, and phosphorus without kidneys. When diagnosed with renal failurea patient relies on a
dialysismachine to adequately remove the harmful wastes from their blood. One of the main
ongoing battles between dialysis patients and their providers is adequate fluid control. There are

successful outcomes should be the first thing doctors think of, rather than, focusing on the number
of patients nephrology can schedule in. Lupus is another concern that nephrology faces which

patients with end stage renal disease and lupus get separated from the other patients because they

Benefits And Benefits Of Benefits
Benefits Plan Benefits are a very important part of the compensation piece for Techtron. They can
often make or break a recruit s decision to accept a position with the company. Therefore it is
important that we offer a competitive benefits package while keeping the bottom line in mind.
Within the realm of benefits there are two types: Legally required benefits and discretionary
benefits. Defined, legally required benefits are protection programs that attempt to promote worker
safety and health, maintain familyincome streams, and assist families in crisis . The Social
Security Act of 1935, workers compensation laws which vary by state, and the Family Medical
LeaveAct of 1993 are all mandated under federal law. Discretionary benefits are benefits that

Afghanistan Pros And Cons
Although the Taliban was able to provide economic growth in Afghanistan, it was at the expense
of global addiction. Further, economic growth was short lasting because in 2001, the Taliban
banned opium production as a result of overproduction and a significant price decrease. The ban
did increase opium prices, however it had devastated many farmers, who were left with large
unpaid loans to drug dealers and no source of income (Descent into Chaos 320). Opposition to the
Talibantherefore increased amongst the Afghan population (320). Moreover, even though the
Taliban was at first praised for bringing relative peace and security to the regions they captured,
their social and religious policies were widely unpopular (Barfield 289). These unpopular... Show

When the Taliban took control of Kabul in 1996, they banned women from working, which was
especially detrimental to widows and other women who did not have a male figure in their life
to provide a source of income. Widows were therefore forced to beg in the streets and sell their
goods (Invisible Women 7). The Taliban also forced women to wear burqas, and if they failed to
cover themselves properly, they were subject to public beatings(7). Education for women also
deteriorated when the Taliban rose to power. Prior to the Taliban regime, Statistics by the Feminist
Majority Foundation revealed that over half of the student body of Afghanistan s universities were
women (8), but once Taliban took over, women were prohibited from attending school. Numerous
other rules imposed by the Taliban disallowed women from equal opportunity, such as the Taliban s
refusal to provide women access to medical care, their requirement that women must at all times be
accompanied by a male chaperone, women prohibition from driving, and women being unable to
wear white burqas, white socks, or white shoes, amongst other laws (Invisible 8). Failure to abide
by the Taliban rules led to harsh, and sometimes barbaric, punishments. Subsequently, these
irrational rules left widespread feelings of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness among Afghan

Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian Axis
The hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis (HPO) is the regulatory axis of the reproductive system.
The principal regulatory hormone for the HPO axis is gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH);
this hormone is produced by neurons of the preoptic and arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. The
hormone is released into the hypophyseal portal system, and stimulates the pituitary follicles, which
encourages hormone secretion. This in turn encourages the secretion of estradiol and progesterone
by the ovaries.
The hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) is part of the stress response system, and has the
effect of changing the organism s behavior in order to increase the organism s chances to survive
the stressful situation. When stress is present, the

Disadvantages Of Online Dating
Adults, we live much busier lives than generations before us. Finding a person to date, marry
and build a family with is simply is not done the same was as traditionally done. Many couples
met in school and married young. Finding a mate was easy with classmates and friends of
classmates. However, these day couples are not getting married as young as previous
generations. With women especially, students leave high school to pursue a career by attending
college and traveling the world. Today, young people are looking to experience all they can out
of life while they are young therefore the average age of a young American s first marriage is
rising steadily. When a young American begins to settle down by finding a career, buying a home

someone to share it with. That is why online datinghas become attractive option for many reasons.
Many adults have found great success dating online however many have some outcomes that can

How Did Women s Lacrosse Change
Lacrosse dates back all the way to the 1600 s when the Indians inhabited most of the North
American land. What once was referred to as stickball by the Native Americans has changed
frequently throughout the years, and is now a popular worldwide play sport.
Lacrosse was first played in St. Valley, New York by the Iroquois, who were a Native American
tribe. The game was originally created to praise their creator. Also to settle arguments between
other tribes and to prepare for war. There were very few rules, there was no boundaries and
unlimited players were allowed on the field at once. To start the game each team would yell
their creator s name and put their sticks in the air as a way of saying they were ready. The
French explorers who were in North America saw the Native Americans playing, the rules and
setting was really different from how people play today. The name of Lacrosse came from the
French explorers who noticed how the sticks looked like a cross that a Bishop would carry, called
le crosier. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Team, which modified new rules and organized new clubs and teams. The first game that was

Many politicians disagree on who the second amendment applies to; however, regardless of who it

Essay On Intracranial Pial Arteriovenous Fistula
INTRODUCTION:
Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) is a rare vascular malformation accounting for 1.6
% of all intracranial vascular malformations [1]. Approximately 170 cases of pial arteriovenous
fistulae have been reported since 1970. It consists of one or more arterial feeders and usually a
single venous channel [2]. The direct arteriovenous shunt results in high venous blood flow and
varix formation with the subsequent risk of haemorrhage. PAVF can be congenital or result from
iatrogenic or traumatic injury [2]. However, the exact cause remains elusive. PAVF may present

A Leader Who Doesn t Have Knowledge Of The Best Person As...
Leadership is a term on which no one can reach a consensus as it carries a different meaning and
weightage for each individual. Some people may consider a person as their leader who is
capable of taking them away from hardships or caring for them, or some people may consider a
man steeped in wisdom and learning to be a leader. Difference notwithstanding, there still seems
to be some commonality in all the perspectives behind the definition, which is related to
choosing a best of the best person as their leader. The simple bottom line is that, nobody wants to
have a person as his leader who doesn t have knowledge of the needs and aspirations of his
people or who is not blessed with a certain temperament foe bearing hardships for his people, nor a
vision for where they should be or how they should grow and influence the world around them.
As the founder of tech startup, it is only natural for me to pick a leader who is a true
technological visionary. It was not enough to simply pick someone who created innovative
products, or created and ran a billion dollar company. For me it would have to be someone with
the vision to shape the future and world around him, a person who could see how his works would
directly impact the trajectory of the world and its impact on the human race at large. A true
visionary. Therefore, for the purpose of this assignment I have chosen to perform a study to Elon
Musk, the business magnate, engineer and inventor to name but a few of his accolades. In

Depression And Depression In The Scarlet Letter By...
It will take over every thought, control one s very being until they truly believe they are
hopeless, broken, and undeserving of even the most basic comforts. It will drain the very soul
until there is no spirit left in a person. Everyone will experience it at least once in their lifetime,
whether it s from a close family death or a disfiguration of the mind. It does not discriminate race,
gender, religion or profession; it is depression. The symptoms of depression often seen in people
are self harm, feelings of guilt, worsening health, unshakeable sadness, interrupted sleep patterns,
distancing one s self from everything, and a lack a hope. The Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorne
can be read as a psychological novel in which the characters, Hester Prynneand Arthur
Dimmesdale, have different experiences with depression. First of all, the way depression affects
an individual from The Scarlet Letter is through the events of self harm. Depression is often a
leading cause of self harm. Studies in depression have shown several cases of self harm, most
often caused by the fact that people either enjoy the pain, feel as though they deserve to undergo it,
or they feel as though it is the only way they can control the pain in their lives. These feelings
translate directly into The Scarlet Letter through Dimmesdale. After committing adultery with
Hester, he feels as though his previous actions have taken away all personal value he holds. His
beliefs at the time are that he must

Theme Across Genre
Comparing a Theme Across Genres Sometimes people are faced with a disaster that they do not
have control over. This tragedy may result in deadly outcomes. In the story, Titanic, written by
Hanson W. Baldwin and in the story, Notes from a Bottle, written by James Stevenson both
portray a disaster that happened to many individuals that may or may not have cost them their
lives. Fictional stories have a more emotional impact on readers, and they develop feelings for the
characters. On the other hand, non fictional stories are more factual, and are more real than they
are personal. In the story, Titanic, by Hanson W. Baldwin a ship sailed the ocean on April 10,

In the story, Titanic, author Hanson W. Baldwin uses factual information to support his main
idea about the tragedy of the shipwreck, Titanic. Baldwin states facts to make the story more
realistic. For example, he uses time to let the readers know how fast the ship sunk after hitting
the iceberg. Towards the end of the story Baldwin writes, The Titanic had carried boats enough
for 1,178 persons, only one third of her capacity. Her sixteen boats and four collapsibles had
saved but 711 persons; 400 people had needlessly lost their lives. (Baldwin, 405). Baldwin uses
these facts to make the story more realistic by stating how many people were saved, and how many
died. The characters support the theme that nobody knows the situation they are walking into until

Development of Human Language, Neurolinguistics and...
Most people take it for granted that children will develop cognition, language and communication
skills when they reach a certain stage in their life. In fact, various studies have been conducted
regarding these aspects of human development. A common topic for debate is the issue of nature
versus nurture, wherein some groups support the idea that language and cognitive development is
as natural as breathing while other groups contend that external factors influence these
characteristics of humanprogress. Researchers are given the opportunity to dig deeper into this issue
through cases involving feral, isolated and confined children.

Language development among humans normally occurs rapidly from the time the child is born to
around the age of five. There are generally accepted language learning milestones that every child
has to achieve even though the pace and age at which these are achieved may vary from child to
child ( Language Development ). There are several theories regarding language acquisition and
development. Chomsky theorized that people have an inborn ability to learn language through a
special biological mechanism, a species specific biological endowment, which he referred to as a
Language Acquisition Device that is found in the brain. He likened this to a universal grammar that
is recognized by all humans. His theories were also considered as Nativist in comparison to the
Behaviorist theories which stipulate that language acquisition is achieved as a result of providing
rewards for imitations (Rieber ; Theories About How Young Children Acquire and Develop
Language ). Piaget contends that cognition precedes language development and children simply use
language to represent what they are thinking. Vygotsky argued that language is primarily a form of
social communication, which eventually leads to language and cognition. More recent theorists
claim that the child is an active part of their holistic development with language acquisition being
the result of cognitive, emotional and social interactions ( Theories About How Young Children
Acquire and Develop Language ).

80). Furthermore, Wax Weber proposed that in order to understand stratification, it must be
broken down into three concepts: class, status, and parties. Class is divided into two groups, the
capitalist and the working class, in simpler form the haves and have nots. Status groups are then
groups of people or communities defined by a particular lifestyle defined by prestige, honor,
race, etc. For instance, its commonly heard communities being called the slums, or that s where
white people live, this is due to the fact that people who share the same social standing live
within the same community. The third concept refers to political parties and the power they hold,
moreover who s in power of the house. While it is believed that we live in a world where
everyone has the same chance at success, this perpetuates the belief that individuals control their
own future. However, social stratification allows us to understand and brings to light apparent
inequalities of the societal structure (Iceland, 2013). For the poor, living in poverty becomes a
vicious cycle difficult to escape while the affluent gain more power. Those who live in poverty

Women, usually healthy and fertile, enlist the help of physicians because they do not have access
to the one element that will yield them a child. And so, doctors prescribe a cure of sorts sperm. The
procedure allows women increased power to regulate the reproductive processes of their bodies.
Ironically, artificial insemination was not created as a method of empowerment for women. Rather
for men. Male scientists and researchers developed the technology for eugenic purposes, not to
alleviate the pressures of alternative lifestyles of women. That is, to improve the human species.
With the onset of research in genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists
entertained theories of quality control with respect to human reproduction. Scientists such as
Francis Crick and Dr. William Shockley believed that the growth rate of the population was
increasing too rapidly, and most importantly certain unfavorable demographic clusters were
increasing. In short, the wrong classes and races were reproducing with more frequency than was
desired by these men. They hoped that future progeny would be of the same superior caliber as
themselves. To yield this, they proposed schemes to tax children; to provide cash incentives for
sterilization; to license women for the number of children they may bear and men for the sperm
they may deposit in seed banks;

Representative Peter DeFazio s Party Unity Score Discussion
In 2013, Rep. Peter DeFazio s (D, OR 4) party unity score was 94% (Weyl, 183). Party unity as
defined in the textbook, Congress and Its Members, are votes in which the majority of voting
Republicans oppose a majority of voting Democrats. In other words, average votes Peter DeFazio
casted with the Democratic majority against the Republican majority. Furthermore, party affiliation
as well as ideological positions, and the constituency pressure are strongly correlated with
congressmen s votingdecisions (Davidson, Oleskek, Lee 2014, 255). The roll callvote that I chose
to calculate the party unity score of Rep. DeFazio was the roll call vote named Disaster
Supplement Fish and Wildlife Construction. This roll call concerned a bill named Super Storm
Sandy Disaster Aid. The purpose of the roll call was to determine if hinder funding for the Fish
and Wildlife Service (FWS) to repair seawalls and buildings on wildlife refuges that are damaged
by a natural disaster. The reduction of funds to the FWS by $9.8 million was another main point
of the roll call vote. This roll call voting would determine how much funding would be provided

Twin of Viola, Sebastian has a high noble status but appears on stage very little until the final Act.
The purpose of Sebastian is to foil the misunderstandings in the plot.
Provident in peril, Sebastian shares many of his qualities in addition to their physical similarities.
Like Orsino, Sebastian is quick to respond to a beautiful woman. He develops affection for Olivia

At the beginning of the play he thought he had lost his sister, but by the end of the play he finds his

His character is largely defined by the way it mirrors that of his sisters; whom we get to know quite

and designed to improve performance, increase motivation, staff retention and increase
profitability. Appreciation and gratitude is widely received as reward and the opportunity for
training and development for career progression. A good culture encompassing strong values,
vision, morale s and beliefs and behaviours expressed by employers and employees of an
organisation can be the driver of the overall performance of a company. A good culture can help
support the implementation of changes and new initiatives and are likely to be supported by those
involved. 2 External factors and there impacts: The economic climate surrounding a company can
determine many things and can have financial implications as well as affecting the levels
productivity. Economic growth can lead to a lack of employees available to fill positions because
the labor market is saturated with jobs. A company will look to offer higher wages, more benefits
and incentive programs to entice potential candidates and will invest in current employees with
training and development to help retain the staff and promote succession planning throughout the
company. A downturn in economic growth can have the opposite effect. Companies have a
tendency to cut the workforce to maintain profit margins, thus applying extra pressure to the
remaining employees, causing extra work loads, poor morale and a high

Tulips have been placed with a class of plants that shape foods grown from the ground called
angiosperms, which initially dates approximately 100 million years back. Most plants recreated the
way our forefathers would have done it, through spores that made hereditarily indistinguishable
clones of their folks. Yet, angiosperms hit upon another method for spreading their qualities that
gave them a transformative favorable position. They delivered female cells that remained on the
plant and male cells in dust that could be spread to treat neighboring plants. In the meantime, the
angiosperms made themselves appealing to bugs, flying creatures, and honey bees, which brought
about these animals conveying dust, starting with one plant then onto the next, making an
unfathomable blast of assorted variety. Through some secretive, however exact transaction of
shading, fragrance, and symmetry, these cunning angiosperms advanced to

months the year prior to entering kindergarten. Once parents of children who were still attending a
TOP preschool signed consent forms, the first cohort of children were chosen. The overall
participation rate was 99% (out of 114 eligible children, 113 parents consented). Unfortunately, as
with the majority of longitudinal studies, a handful of students either moved or relocated. Attrition
occurred as a result of students leaving, and resulted in a reduction in the number of participants

Supernatural And Spiritual Reasoning Regarding The...
Supernatural and spiritual reasoning regarding the physical properties of the universe are often
discredited because they lack sufficient evidence or overlook natural laws. However, many people
still rely on these ideologies as a doctrine governing their lives and world. Alternatively, the world
has shifted towards naturalism a practice which follows the physical properties of the world due to
an advancement in scientific inquiry and technology. Carl Sagan, author of The Demon Haunted
World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, claims that naturalism is the only reasonable framework to
accurately describe physical properties of the world. Sagan s claim is valid due to the self
correcting mechanisms found within naturalism that produce evidence with certainty.
To begin, Sagan constructs his discussion by defining hope, which is a feeling of expectation and
desire for something certain to happen. Science acts as a mechanism to find the truth in avenues
which we seek it. Every scientist hopes that he/she is right, but science is what makes them right.
What makes science right, according to Sagan, is that it has its own built in mechanism to correct
itself (Sagan, 27). Sagan is correct, the scientific method itself is designed to be a replicated
process. That is, if one scientist were to make an observation, form a hypothesis, run an experiment,
record data, and make a conclusion. Then, another scientist could repeat the process and results
could be compared between the two.

This paper will explore the association between Quebeckers and how much the average
Quebecker really likes Canada on a scale from really dislike (0) to really like (100). This
association is relevant because the history of division between Quebec and the rest of Canada has
resulted in many referendums and resentment that thrives today as much as it did in the past. The
results may not be shocking, but the empirical data analysis shows that the average Quebecker
does not really like Canada when the threshold for really like is set at 80 or more out of 100. The

The former variables is ranked from 0 100 where 0 is really dislike and 100 is really like, while
the latter is simply a nominal variable used for filtering cases. This means that the province
variable was used to narrow the data into Quebec only results to allow the comparison between
the two. They were specifically chosen because they best fit the direction of the research where
I wanted to explore the relationship between overall feelings towards Canada in a particular
province: Quebec. Neither variable was recoded because it showed to be unnecessary, in the case
of provinces, and illogical for the PES11_11, a scale variable (highest level of measurement).
Since this is a scale variable, I was able to calculate all the measures of central tendency (measures
that tell us the most typical values) and dispersion (how typical these typical central values are).
These statistics are relevant to calculate because they allow for more meaningful calculations that
allow us to draw more specific and accurate conclusions about claims such as the standard error,
confidence intervals, z scores and statistical significance.
The bar chart in Figure 1 shows the frequency that each Quebecker chose their feelings about
Canada. It shows that a majority of respondents falls at 50 or above with the most frequent value
is 100. Table 1 shows a collection of all statistics calculated to test the

administrators is in the understanding that the time that it takes for the patient to visit a
healthcare facility is critical. The complication is that many of the symptoms associated to this
illness can be confused with a number of other conditions early on. The complication associated
to RMSF diagnosis and treatment is as follows: Progressed symptoms may not be present until
the first 7 to 10 days. It was noted that 85% of patients did not test positive for RMSF antibodies
during the first week which is needed in order to confirm the diagnosis (CDC). Diagnostic tests
which test for antibodies to confirm presence of RMSF may appear negative within 7 to 10 days of

Emotions And Risks Perception Of Emotions
Emotions and risks perception The concept of affect, emotions, moods In psychology, emotions
and moods are phenomena that have been grouped under the umbrella term affect (Hosany
Gilbert, 2010). Affect is a term used to define good or bad as a feeling state initiated by a
positive or negative stimulus that is consciously or unconsciously experienced (Peters,
Burraston, Mertz, 2004; Slovic Peters, 2006). However, moods and emotions are two distinct
affective states that differ in intensity (Cohen Areni, 1991). Moods are mild, transient and
pervasive feeling states that can be caused by a multitude of stimuli (Gardner, 1985). For
example, a person who reads an article in the newspaper about the drop in fuel prices will start
the day in a good mood as this implies money savings next time at the gas station. However, this
positive mood can easily disappear and be replaced by a negative mood when the ride to work
lengthens due to road traffic. In contrast, emotions are intense feelings that are associated with
specific stimuli that trigger specific behavioural responses (Cohen Areni, 1991; Hosany Prayag,
2013). For example, a person who receives a raise at work will experience feelings of joy and
happiness leading to more dedication in the work place. Similarly, a person who waits 45 minutes at
a restaurant to dine will feel disappointment and frustration and may decide to choose a different
restaurant. Beside their aforementioned differences, feelings

The Symbolism of A Clean, Well Lighted Place
The cafГ© is the place to be the older waiter believes is a place in which he needs to get away
from the darkness and go to the light, in which the story revolves around. The darkness is a main
symbol for the melancholy of emptiness and the light is the way to escape that. I am one of those
who stay late at the cafГ©... With all those who need a light for the night. (Paragraph 70). In the
short story, A Clean, Well Lighted Place , Ernest Hemmingway shows that there is nothing more to
the world progressing through symbolism throughout the story creating a unifying theme of
darkness and light. The story of A Clean, Well Lighted Place bases on a conversation of the two
waiters of the cafГ© watching a drunk, old man who they pity. As the two waiters watch the old
man, the narrator says, A girl and a soldier went by on the street. (Paragraph 10). The street lights

his deafness represents his and the older waiter s isolation from the world from the world.
Because he cannot hear what the younger waiter is saying, the old man just replies, A little more
(Paragraph 19). Another essential symbol relating to the old man that Hemmingway had made
was how the old man was under the shadow of the leaves. The narrator says, ...the old man sat in
the shadow of the leaves of the tree that moved slightly in the wind. The shadow of the leaves is
the darkness he is in right outside of the cafГ©, isolating

Some fifty years ago, the perpetrator of Holocaust, Adolph Eichmann was put on trial. The

  • 2. Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, And Feminism Pavit Singh Mr. Trott English 2 Honors Period 5 15 May 2015 Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, and Feminism Feminism. It s a big concept in society today, but has it always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true love and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and love. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are faced through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with what feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is to achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is, women worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social structure prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge, ideas, ethics and other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family, women are also in a position of inequality with men. Martin is to quote to potential customers the cost of installing the various pools that the company offers, to draw up any new contracts on behalf of the company and further to ensure that a deposit is paid by potential customers, monies which are then deposited in the company s bank account. Martin is on a fixed salary but his contract of employment allows for the payment of a bonus if he exceeds his annual target of signing new customers. The company is very impressed with Martin in the first month of his employment; he has signed at least 20 new customers and work has begun on at least half of the new projects signed. Employer will be held liable if an employee does an authorized act in an unauthorized way which is the actual scenario here in this case study. Employers are also liable under the common law principle represented in the Latin phrase, qui facit per aliumfacit per se (one who acts through another acts in one s own interests). That is a parallel concept to vicarious liability and strict liability, in which one person is held liable in criminal law or tort for the acts or omissions of another and so will be the case here with employee being the former and employer being the latter. 2. Can the company claim they are not liable for Martin because he has not followed instructions? Explain. Under federal anti discrimination law an employer, regardless of their size, may be legally responsible for any misconduct on the part of its employee unless and unless it can be show and prove that all reasonable steps have already been taken to ensure the reduction of this liability. The law mentioned above clearly explains how Swimmingpool Co. can actually claim itself to be free of any responsibility on the part of the employee s mistake. If it proves it to show all reasonable steps without fail is the only condition under which all discriminations are neglected and no supervisor is held responsible for its subordinate because it is the prime duty of every employer to ensure that he is hiring the right person ... • 4. If Hitchcock Auteur Analysis The auteur theory holds that a director s hand is clearly and consistently evident in their work, regardless of involvement in the rest of the production process. It s not uncommon for artists to have a signature or quirk Author Stephen King uses simplistic writing and significant world building to frame his often dark and fantastical stories, and some painters choose to put their own hair or saliva into their work rather than a signature. In the same way, an auteur s films have an instantly recognizable atmosphere, motif, or even color palette and, just as importantly, such an impression can give insight into an auteur s life and mind, lending that much more weight to a body of work. Two such auteurs are thriller and suspense master... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His films are known for their heavy surrealism and dream imagery, things that fascinated Lynch, as he feels that waking dreams are the most important kind, and the closest you can get to showing an audience your dreams is through film. Lynch is obsessed with the dark underbelly of otherwise cheery landscapes, like the little suburbs he grew up in. He felt that beneath the veneer of pleasant suburban life was a black ooze that would be visible if only you could find a crack through which to peer. We look again to Blue Velvet, which features a young man (Jeffery) who seems to be the embodiment of pure curiosity, and who plunges himself into a world of incredible darkness and violence during a visit with his ill father. The film opens with him coming across a severed ear in a field, and the camera spirals downward into the severed ear s canal before cutting to the next shot. Every event thereafter is nearly unbelievable; he happens upon a tortured jazz singer whose family has been taken captive and who is raped and beaten repeatedly by a grotesque drug kingpin named Frank. The young man finds all of this out from watching her from a closet face lined by the shadows cast by the slats in the door, giving him the appearance of being behind bars as he absrobs the horror before him, now a voyeur himself. Everything is unreal, from Frank s almost insect like appearance constantly sticking an oxygen mask over his pinched face to inhale some kind of ether to Rosselini s character making a disturbingly violent sexual advance toward Jeffery. The action is punctuated by a love scene, but not one that is tender or appealing. Lynch slows and blurs the subjects on film so that actions are not clearly visible, and the sound is slowed down immensely so that any noises made by the lovers are rendered monstrous and grating. The shot reads like a dream or a nightmare, but not anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Executive Cash Compensation As The Proxy For The Ceo s... Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion (Rogers, 2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are more likely to become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid risk. I measure cash compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural logarithm bonus. Following existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002) the sensitivity of CEO wealth to stock price is also included as an additional control variables for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive relationship between firm size and CEO risk taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical studies show that growth opportunities are also expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier compensation studies, the market to book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities. In contrast, leverage is expected to be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers, 2002). Financial leverage increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is lesser need to provide the CEO with a risk taking incentive. I utilize the debt ration (book value of debt to book value of assets) as a proxy for leverage (Rogers, 2002). Similar to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Research Paper On Solon Solon Solon was a philosopher and poet. There were not very many things about Solon. However, he sounded like a curious person to write on. In doing this research, Solon had a very interesting life during his eighty years and helped change the Athenian government in many ways. Solon was born 638B.C. in Athens, Greece. He died in 558 B.C. in Cyprus. He was mostly known as an Athenian statesman, a law reformer, and a really talented poet. He became somewhat of a mythical founding father figure that had set Athens on their path of glory during the Classical period. 1 He helped lay the groundwork for the Athenian democracy, helping lower class citizens rise up in political areas. Most of his poems that he was credited for are just fragments now, but, they were very thought provoking poems.Solon and his family belonged to a noble clan. There is not much information available about Solon s family. What is known is that his family was a very small one. They came from moderate wealth, although their lineage could possibly be traced back to the last King of Athens. His father s name was Execestides. Not much is known about his mother. Solon only had one brother, no other siblings. His brother s name was Dropides, who was an ancestor (six generations removed) of Plato2. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is possible that Solon backed up this poetic bravado with true valor on the battlefield.11 When Solon was fighting in wars with his army, he had written many poems. Some of these poems were used to encourage his troops to fight well. For Solon, it gave him strength to fight, and courage that they could win the war with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Agile Software Development Process Essay Motivation Over the last several years, agile software development processes have become increasingly popular. According to Fowler (2003), the agile software engineering processes attempt to enable more flexible and adaptive software development than the traditional software engineering processes offer. Agile practitioners consider documentation as an important aspect for their projects but there is too little internal documentation available in their projects (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). Although the documentation is mentioned, it is not anchored in the original process that relies on verbal communication (Schwaber and Beedle, 2001). Verbal communication is susceptible to lapses of memory and after some time it gets progressively harder to recall design rationale. This problem is compounded by team turnaround (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). The main objective of documenting a project is to instruct consumers about the structure of the system, its functionality, operability and the design structure in case there is need to redesign the system. The primary consumers of the design documentation are those who maintain or upgrade the system. Other stakeholders, such as users, testers, and project managers may also need to know about the system (Selic, B., 2009). However, according to Bran Selic, (2009) software developers do not like to document, as it has no value for them. Even the agile manifesto, issued by the software industry s avant garde, proclaims Working software ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Samuel Clemens Biography Essay Samuel L. Clemens was born on November 30, 1835. On this day Halley s comet blazed through the night sky. Clemens notably mentioned that since he came along when the comet did, he shall leave when the comet does. On April 21, 1910, the day the comet shined the brightest it had ever shown, Clemens passed from a heart attack. Ironically, this was also the day that Halley s comet made an exit from Earth s sight (Harper and Owens). Throughout the lifetime of the comet, Clemens became an American icon in literature. With the pen name Mark Twain , his humorous travel stories brought him to fame as he left the occupation of a news reporter. Twain chose this pen name based on his experiences from being a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. Crew men on the steamboat would shout Mark Twain if the depth of water was enough for the boat to travel through it. At the age of twenty seven,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Biography Of Karl Marx s Writing On Class Conflict ociety is told that through hard work and dedication anyone can become successful. Success in the United States is looked at as being a part of the elite. Though it may seem like the status may easily be reached, this is not, in fact the case. Karl Marx s writing on class conflict suggest otherwise. Class conflict is still very relevant in present day s society and can be seen throughout the levels of class. In today s society you can see class conflict in the way that working class is under paid such as fast food workers. Fast food workers are coming together and striking for higher pay for the hard work that they so clearly do. The class conflict comes into place because the owners don t want to keep their profit and so he continues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead workers believe that everyone has a significant part in the company and if they continue to save they can also become elite. This is why Marx s states that it is important that workers are class conscious. Class consciousness plays a role in society today like Marx had hoped it would. Class consciousness brings awareness on the part of the working class of their common relationship to the means of production (Marx 1844). Class consciousness is a social condition in which members of a social class are actively aware of themselves as a class. This not only means that they understand what class they fall under but it also brings awareness to the fact that some workers are being exploited. These workers are mostly from the working class and include fast food workers. Today fast food workers are seeing that in order to see an increase in their pay they must come together against the ruling class. The ruling Class (elite) are those that have the most money and those who control production. It is clear the more money you have the more power you have. Marx would not be surprised to hear about the many workers strikes that continue to happen because workers feel that they are being under paid. Class position plays a very important role in society today just as it had during Marx s time. Marx states that Ideas about the world and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the effectiveness of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility of the passage of a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore democracy to American citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is still hope in the power of the people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a better democratic election, in a land of the people; the majority of the voting population should control the few politicians that run the government. Esenberg s beginning argument relies strongly on the evidence that the money spent on campaign finance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more powerful than the actual limit set. Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that the ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates (Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates. Reducing the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public donations (Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union members, which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger corporations and Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are also the ones who create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the unlikelihood of incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats (Esenberg, 2010). For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race, class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude, including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century, American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). • 12. The Controversy On Whether Sweatshops Should Be Banned INTRODUCTION Sweatshops have been a popular and serviceable business, although there are a lot of controversy on whether sweatshops should be banned and hows pay wages should be higher. Many people believe that sweatshops are unfair, cruel and unlawful, whereas others think that sweatshops are a second chance for many people living in developing countries. The dictionary definition of a sweatshop is factory or workshop, especially in the clothing industry, where manual workers are employed at very low wages for long hours and under poor conditions, it is defined by the US Department of Labor as a factory that violates 2 or more labor laws. Sweatshops are a frequent ordeal in many countries, all over the globe, with a variety of perspectives. PARAGRAPH ONE THE... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These changes later spread across the world, and together they became known as the Industrial Revolution. By the 1850s, there were factories in many parts of Britain and around the world, and large, busy towns were developing around them. Although the factory owners were growing rich and lived in grand houses, the workers were paid very little and were extremely poor. They lived in dirty, crowded parts of town, known as the slums. This was the beginning of sweatshop history, With factory towns sprouting all over countries , many farm families left their land in order to make money in the new cities. The factory workers lived in the slums; they shared cramped living quarters with many other families in dirty and disease infested communities. Many of the conditions just described seem to match with the well known ways of sweatshops now. This proves how little sweatshops have developed. Many people would agree that this a sinking point in the developing countries, but others would say that if the factories had improved more people would be poor, and in ... Income Inequality and Standard of Living in the United States A characteristic of man that separates him from the majority of the animal world is his organization of social and economic systems. Man, however, retains traits of his evolutionary ancestors in the form of self preservation and greediness. While many political, economic, and social systems try to eradicate this form of natural selection, capitalism and related economic structures preserve social inequality in many forms. The population is not vast enough to carry all of these companies. Everyone needs a house. Rich people poor people; all people are included. This is a problem, because housing costs a great deal of money. Poor people that can barely afford food and clothing also have a hard time finding reasonable housing. As a result, some live in unsafe and unhealthy conditions that are badly in need of repair. Poor people live in the central city for two different reasons. First, the farther away that you get from the central business district, the higher your transportation costs to get to your job (assuming that the job is located in the CBD). If you can not afford to commute to your work, you will be unable to keep your job, making you worse off economically. Therefore, you would chose to locate your residence close to your place of employment (closer to the CBD) in order to reduce your transportation costs. IF you live close enough to your place of employment, you may not need to use any form of transportation other then your feet, which doesn t cost you anything but your time. The second reason has to do with where new houses are built. New homes are built on land that was previously undeveloped, usually located on the outer edge of the residential district, furthest away from the central business district. • 16. Summary Of The Feminine Mystique In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that has no name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect lives ? Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the feminine mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man, be a housewife and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been told their whole lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off husband and start a family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than just waiting on their family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of life. However, society does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the mystique into women s heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines, ads, signs, etc. Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage themselves, but their husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too much sexual intercourse, which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s lives, that they grow up to be whiny, mother dependent adults. In the end, women finally begin to not only question the feminine mystiquebut act against it. Moreover, throughout the story, Friedan s style uses conflict development and ... Some people may consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships or caring for them, or some people may consider a man steeped in wisdom and learning to be a leader. Difference notwithstanding, there still seems to be some commonality in all the perspectives behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. The simple bottom line is that, nobody wants to have a person as his leader who doesn t have knowledge of the needs and aspirations of his people or who is not blessed with a certain temperament foe bearing hardships for his people, nor a vision for where they should be or how they should grow and influence the world around them. It does not discriminate race, gender, religion or profession; it is depression. The symptoms of depression often seen in people are self harm, feelings of guilt, worsening health, unshakeable sadness, interrupted sleep patterns, distancing one s self from everything, and a lack a hope. There are generally accepted language learning milestones that every child has to achieve even though the pace and age at which these are achieved may vary from child to child ( Language Development ). There are several theories regarding language acquisition and development. Chomsky theorized that people have an inborn ability to learn language through a special biological mechanism, a species specific biological endowment, which he referred to as a Language Acquisition Device that is found in the brain. He likened this to a universal grammar that is recognized by all humans. His theories were also considered as Nativist in comparison to the Behaviorist theories which stipulate that language acquisition is achieved as a result of providing rewards for imitations (Rieber ; Theories About How Young Children Acquire and Develop Language ). Piaget contends that cognition precedes language development and children simply use language to represent what they are thinking. Vygotsky argued that language is primarily a form of social communication, which eventually leads to language and cognition. More recent theorists claim that the child is an active part of their holistic development with language acquisition being the result of cognitive, emotional and social interactions ( Theories About How Young Children Acquire and Develop Language ). Women, usually healthy and fertile, enlist the help of physicians because they do not have access to the one element that will yield them a child. And so, doctors prescribe a cure of sorts sperm. The procedure allows women increased power to regulate the reproductive processes of their bodies. Ironically, artificial insemination was not created as a method of empowerment for women. Rather for men. Male scientists and researchers developed the technology for eugenic purposes, not to alleviate the pressures of alternative lifestyles of women. That is, to improve the human species. With the onset of research in genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists entertained theories of quality control with respect to human reproduction. Scientists such as Francis Crick and Dr. William Shockley believed that the growth rate of the population was increasing too rapidly, and most importantly certain unfavorable demographic clusters were increasing. In short, the wrong classes and races were reproducing with more frequency than was desired by these men. They hoped that future progeny would be of the same superior caliber as themselves. To yield this, they proposed schemes to tax children; to provide cash incentives for sterilization; to license women for the number of children they may bear and men for the sperm they may deposit in seed banks; ... • 43. Supernatural And Spiritual Reasoning Regarding The... Supernatural and spiritual reasoning regarding the physical properties of the universe are often discredited because they lack sufficient evidence or overlook natural laws. However, many people still rely on these ideologies as a doctrine governing their lives and world. Alternatively, the world has shifted towards naturalism a practice which follows the physical properties of the world due to an advancement in scientific inquiry and technology. Carl Sagan, author of The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, claims that naturalism is the only reasonable framework to accurately describe physical properties of the world. Sagan s claim is valid due to the self correcting mechanisms found within naturalism that produce evidence with certainty. To begin, Sagan constructs his discussion by defining hope, which is a feeling of expectation and desire for something certain to happen. Science acts as a mechanism to find the truth in avenues which we seek it. Every scientist hopes that he/she is right, but science is what makes them right. What makes science right, according to Sagan, is that it has its own built in mechanism to correct itself (Sagan, 27). Sagan is correct, the scientific method itself is designed to be a replicated process. That is, if one scientist were to make an observation, form a hypothesis, run an experiment, record data, and make a conclusion. Then, another scientist could repeat the process and results could be compared between the two. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Emotions And Risks Perception Of Emotions Emotions and risks perception The concept of affect, emotions, moods In psychology, emotions and moods are phenomena that have been grouped under the umbrella term affect (Hosany Gilbert, 2010). Affect is a term used to define good or bad as a feeling state initiated by a positive or negative stimulus that is consciously or unconsciously experienced (Peters, Burraston, Mertz, 2004; Slovic Peters, 2006). However, moods and emotions are two distinct affective states that differ in intensity (Cohen Areni, 1991). Moods are mild, transient and pervasive feeling states that can be caused by a multitude of stimuli (Gardner, 1985). For example, a person who reads an article in the newspaper about the drop in fuel prices will start the day in a good mood as this implies money savings next time at the gas station. However, this positive mood can easily disappear and be replaced by a negative mood when the ride to work lengthens due to road traffic. In contrast, emotions are intense feelings that are associated with specific stimuli that trigger specific behavioural responses (Cohen Areni, 1991; Hosany Prayag, 2013). For example, a person who receives a raise at work will experience feelings of joy and happiness leading to more dedication in the work place. Similarly, a person who waits 45 minutes at a restaurant to dine will feel disappointment and frustration and may decide to choose a different restaurant.
