appropriate discount rate for the Collinsville investment.
We are interested in obtaining the asset beta for Collinsville investment. Here from
the reading material, we find there were altogether 6 chemical companies that
produce sodium chlorates. They are Hooker, Pennwalt, American, Kerr McGee,
Brunswick and Southern. However, since we are evaluating the addition of a sodium
chlorate plant, the two firms (Brunswick and Southern) who specialize in producing
sodium chlorate are likely the best twins . To determine the asset betas of each

Here, in the given pro forma in Exhibit 8, the cost of salt and other in 1984 was
1836 while that in 1983 is 1956. Thus, the growth rate is (1956 1836)/1836=6.6%.
Thirdly, since the total fixed costs account for 14.1% of its sales in the year of
1983 and 1984, we assume the total fixed costs will remain at this level until 1989.
Similarly, the account receivable, account payable, and inventories stays at 10%,
5.5% and 4.5% of sales respectively.
For the depreciation part, we adopted the straight line method. Here since the
depreciation of year 1984 was $1270, we just assumed all the depreciation amount to
be equal to $1270 till the year 1989. With all of these previous assumptions, we
obtain the complete pro forma financial statement and the cash flow table for the
Collinsville Plant.
Together with the discount rate we calculated from the first part, we get the NPV of
this project is $8737.6. Under this valuation, the $12M offer is high and that Dixon
should not make the investment without the laminate technology.
3.
Calculate the incremental NPV from adding the laminate technology to the
Collinsville plant. What is the NPV of the Collinsville plant with the laminate
technology?
When we consider the laminate technology, we have to add $2.25M to the CAPX
for first year and add $225,000 to depreciation per annum from the second year to the
last year. Moreover, we assume the

While The God of Small Things deals with social hierarchy and castes, as well as
the laws and customs of India, it can be very difficult to follow with the different
time periods. We read The God of Small Things in my sophomore English class as
well, and even met its author, Arundhati Roy at a conference in Madison. For me
the book tried too hard with symbolism, it overflowed with it. Too much
symbolism can muddle the book, and can sometimes be even better if it is stripped
bare to the basic meaning. To replace The God of Small Things I chose the
Divergent series. Although based on a fictional Chicago, Divergent parallels The
God of Small Things because it also has to deal with social hierarchy, although in
Divergent they were divided into factions rather than castes. The series deals with
many different aspects of personality, which also is a theme in The God of Small

Plastic Bags And Their Product Life Cycle
Dalton GoddardPaper or Plastics? (CH106_EL_SP_2016) Paper or Plastic? Final
Paper Paper or Plastic? When I am asked this question, I will always respond,
plastic . Plastic , because it is more convenient to carry and easier to discard. When
I am asked this question and I am thinking about the environment, my immediate
response is none of the above as I know that reusable bags will be better for the
environment. However, this paper will compare and contrast paper and plastic
bags throughout their product life cycle using life cycle analysis (LCA). Both
paper and plastic go through similar stages in their birth to death lifespans. They
are: Acquisition of Raw Materials Manufacturing and Processing Distribution and
Transportation Use and Reuse, and finally Disposal When analyzing both paper
and plastic bags across these cycles, paper and plastic will both consume energy
(renewable and non renewable) and produce pollutants. This LCA will determine
the more environmentally friendly choice. Acquisition of Raw MaterialsThe raw
material for paper bags is trees while the raw material for plastic bags is oil. Trees are
a renewable resource as long as trees are not being cut down faster than new trees
being planted. Oil is a non renewable fossil fuel. According to NBC News Chief
Environmental Correspondent, Anne Thompson, 14 million trees are required for
paper bags and 12 million barrels of oil are required for plastic bags in one year

Genetic Testing
Genetic Testing Helps Iceland to Become Down Syndrome Free
Some might say in response to the above announcement, This is positive medical
news both for Iceland and the world. Nothing here should concern the American
public. Genetic testing for abnormalities saves children from a life of significant
disability and spares their parents painful stress. The subsequent abortions avoid a
wretched existence for the children and improves the quality of life for their
surviving families. That is not genocide; it is compassion and mercy. Moreover, it
relieves both the parents and society from having to shoulder severe medical
expenses for care. That reduces insurance rates and liberates medical resources for
those who really need them. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should not receive criticism but love.
What deserves the rebuke? It is the system with all of its subtle pressures that
promotes eugenic genocide. That is what is being done, and that is the real enemy.
For hidden within this system lurks a sinister, half conscious, genetic selection
system. If awakened fully, it will snap eagerly to attention to do its job. What is that?
The passion to play god, expressed in the arbitrary elimination of entire people groups
deemed aesthetically undesirable and, therefore, less than human. It is the opening
shot in a war a war over who is worthy of birth (humanity) and who is not (non
human garbage).
How could that be?
What expert can assure that Iceland s focus will not broaden to include other
genetic traits that have nothing to do with disability but are just unfavored
socially? The precedent has been set. If history is any guide, that is precisely what
will happen. Gender is not a disease, but sexual selection is already an international
problem. Moreover, advocates for the disabled currently sound the alarm for the
future, such as Lloyd Lewis (president of the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition).
In an article for the Denver Post, he asks where genetic testing might lead:
Such testing to remove abnormalities will clearly not stop at DS (Downs Syndrome)
or other conditions such as spina bifida. Ultimately, the aim will be to detect all
The Business Judgment Rule Has Served For Decades As
The...
The business judgment rule has served for decades as the most important protection
against personal liability for directors and officers. And it also has been criticized
frequently as providing too much protection for the directors and officers of
corporations. It is the time for some changes to be made to business judgment rule. A:
Economic Environment Changes The business judgment rule is designed to prevent
courts from second guessing the quality of a decision, which made by directors and
officers. Because the modern organizational structure of corporations allows
shareholders, who actually own the corporationto elect a board of directors to manage
the corporation, these directors and officers have more business experience and are
more familiar with the needs, strengths, and limitations of the corporation than
shareholders and the courts. Therefore the business judgment rule recognizes that
the directors and officers are best able to make business judgments. The business
judgment rule originated in 1945 in Otis Co. v. Pennsylvania R. Co [2], the
corporate directors were sued because they only dealing with one investment house
and not shop around for the best possible price available in the sale of securities.
The federal district court held that the directors chose the wrong course of action in
good faith therefore do not subject to liability for negligence in the discharge of their
appointed duties. This case offers two primary
Imagery And Their Mind Through Descriptions And

Imagery is the use of language to create mental pictures in one s mind through
descriptions and sensory perceptions (Wheeler). In Digging, Heaney establishes
the setting of the poem by describing that he is in what seems to be a room with a
window that overlooks an area of green. He starts the poem off with Between my
finger and my thumb / The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. / Under my window, a
clean rasping sound / When the spade sinks into gravelly ground: / My father,
digging. I look down ( Digging ). He uses the appeals to sound, as in a clean
rasping sound and the spade sinks into gravelly ground, as well as appeals to sight,
I look down, and appeals to touch, [b]etween my finger and my thumb, to create an
image in the reader s mind of what that day, or perhaps thought, looked like. The
image that is created is one that shows contrast, in this case between an unidentified
narrator and his father. As the poem continues, Heaney describes But I ve no spade
to follow men like them. / Between my finger and my thumb / The squat pen rests. / I
ll dig with it. The contrast that this furthers is the idea that the narrator is very
different from his father, creating a divide that can be the start of tension. Because the
narrator and his father cannot necessarily understand each other due to these
differences, as each chooses his different approach to digging, the narrator seems to
understand that not much can be done about the father s choice to remain a
Legalization Of Marijuana Analysis
Marijuana is the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from the hemp plant,
Cannabis Sativa. Marijuana contains delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is
responsible for the stimulation of brain cells that release dopamine creating a feeling
of happiness and excitement. Research and experiments have proven that marijuana
can have superb results on health issues. Marijuana can be used to treat and prevent
diseases such as glaucoma, seizures, decrease anxiety, minimize cancer pains, and
many more. A drug that causes temporary relief from problems that has never been
connected to overdoses is illegal in the United States because of two men, Harry
Jacob Anslinger, and William Randolf Hearst. Harry Anslinger was a United States

The legalization of marijuana will be beneficial in creating job opportunities,
boosting tax revenue, and reducing the number of arrests due to possession of the
drug. The number of people arrested for marijuana law violations in 2013 was
693,482 which costs the United States more than $51,000,000,000 annually (Way,
2013). The governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, in 2012 signed an executive
order becoming the nation s first statewide vote to end marijuana prohibition.
Making recreational use and home cultivation of small amounts of marijuana legal
in the state of Colorado for adults 21 years of age and older. According to the
Colorado Center on Law and Policy amendment 64 will save the state $12 million
in savings for the year 2013 because of a deduction in criminal costs. Courts and
prisons are seeing less violations due to issues with marijuana so there is no need
to spend as much of the tax payer s money on them. Legalization of marijuana will
not only benefit the states by reduced law enforcement expenses but will also
create jobs. Marijuana is a billion dollar industry that the government is missing
out on. With the legalization for the popular drug comes an abundance of career
options and job opportunities. There will be a need for companies that can make
pipes, bongs, vaporizers, papers and other products associated with weed which will
then create job openings. It will also create large amounts of profit and revenue from
the sales tax that the government could implement. On the market there will be a
new product being produced and sold increasing gross domestic product for the
United States. It is expected that the legal use of recreational marijuana could
increase Washington State s tax revenue by $25 million by July of 2015, with an
estimated $200 million increase by mid 2017, according to state economists

How Does Shakespeare Present Women In Juliet And
Desdemona
Elizabethan women were subservient to men and dependent on their male relatives.
Women were expected to act as dutiful daughters, mothers and wives, yet anything
contrary to that was deemed shameful. It is for this reason that Shakespeare depicts
women as capable of defying social norms and notions as seen through the characters:
Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Desdemona in Othello. While both female characters
challenge the status quo, Desdemona is more successful. This is demonstrated
through the disobedience shown towards parents, the fortitude to voice opinions and
dominance over male counterparts.By comparison, Juliet and Desdemona challenge
the status quo through displaying disobedience towards their parents. Juliet disobeys
her family when she insidiously falls in love and marries a Montague; Romeo. The
Montague s and Capulet s are mortal enemies so Juliet contemplates and decides to
leave her family to be with him, O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?

When Iago and Roderigo inform Brabantio that his daughter is with a Moor, he is
outraged, exclaiming, O heaven! How she got out? O treason of the blood/Fathers,
from hence trusts not your daughters minds/ By what you see them act (Othello I.
i.169 171). Brabantio presumes Desdemona has been put under a spell for there is no
other reason she would do such a thing. As Juliet disobeys her whole family in loving
their enemy, Desdemona deceives her father and innate racism by marring Othello.
The concept of a white female willingly with an African American male is absurd and
nefarious. That is indeed why Desdemona more successfully challenges the status
quo. Differing from Juliet, Shakespeare uses her authentic relationship with Othello
to demur a major injustice: racism. On the whole, Juliet and Desdemona challenge
the status quo by disobeying their
Factories In The 1900s
Factories in the 1900s
Everyday millions of people drive or walk to work in the morning and then return
to their home in 8 10 hours or come home every week or two with a good sized
paycheck. Usually this luxury is taken for granted, because the money that is earned
is always enough to supply our everyday need and the work day is finished before
the next night. Working conditions were not always this good. These good working
routines gradually came into action growing from the Industrial Revolution. The
Industrial Revolution brought about many factories and along with the factories
came more workers who had few safety regulations to protect them.
So how did the factories become so deplorable? The United States underwent a huge
industrial growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The workers that they mostly hired was women and children. They were hired
before men because of how small they were and because they were willing to work
as long as they could help their families financially. These women that were making
working were working for their families making three to four dollars per week
(Gourley 11). The women that were employed were paid way less than that of the
men and they would work for long, exhausting hours. Women were also employed
before men because they had small hands and could work quicker. With their small
hands they would easily unjam the machines and they could operate sewing machines
with better ease than men could. The children that were employed were usually 14 16
years of age and they too would work to support their families. When these children
were sent to work in the morning they would most likely not return until the next day.
Most children would normally work in the coal mines and in the sewing and textile
industry. Throughout the industrial revolution roughly about 1.7 million children
worked in factories ( Working Conditions ).
The men that did have a job often worked on the railroad. These men would get
paid according to their responsibility. The men that worked here did not have it
much better than those who worked in the factories because they would be on a
strict diet of beef, bread, and black coffee. These men had to work in fear of getting

Organizational Change Activities
Organizational Change Activities Change activities are healthy for an organization.
They keep it up to date and relevant within the market place. There are a number of
reasons as to why organizations need to change; essentially the organization is in
need of a change of because of external factors or a need for a change within the
organizational culture. External evolutions of technological and cultural factors can
all impact the success of an intended organizational change. Still, such change is
often needed to keep an organization healthy. Organizations engage in change
activities for a wide number of reasons. Overall, the main reason is to increase the
overall success of the organization, whether it is the operational flow or the
organizational culture itself. Essentially, organizations engage in change activities to
improve the ability of the organization to adapt to changes in the environment and to
change employee behavior (Robbins Judge, 2008, p 412). External factors can cause
an organization to need to revamp its internal strategies. Thus, external factors hold a
powerful role in why an organization would need to change. Additionally,
organizational culture can have a place in causing a need for change within an
organization. When how employees act and function fail to meet organization
strategies and objectives, a change is needed in order to intervene and generate a
greater sense of balance between the two. There are a number of factors that impact an
Current Events and US Diplomacy on Truman Doctrine
Current Events and US Diplomacy: The introduction of the Truman Doctrine in
March 1947 by President Harry S. Truman was an outline for the basic foreign
policy that America would use against Communism and the Soviet Union for nearly
four decades. While President Truman assumed office while inexperienced in global
affairs, the doctrine demonstrated his firm stewardship on foreign policy. The
doctrine, which was eventually adopted as an international relations policy, was
introduced in a speech regarding intentions of the country to help Turkey and Greece
with military and economic support for them to avoid falling into the Soviet sphere.
The main goal of the doctrine was to help free individuals who were opposing
initiatives by armed minorities towards suppression. In addition to containing military
and economic concepts, Truman Doctrine symbolized the role of the United States in
demonstrating global leadership in post World War II era. As a result, the doctrine
ended up playing a crucial role in the then regional and international affairs during the
Cold War.
Truman Doctrine: A presidential doctrine is basically defined as an ideological
framework that a president uses to advance a policy towards a region or country to
achieve foreign policy goals. An example of such doctrine is the Truman Doctrine
that was issued by President Harry S. Truman in March 1947. The doctrine was
primarily an outline the America would use against the Soviet Union and

Thesis On Marijuana And Children
Marijuana Effect on Children
During my senior seminar, I wrote my senior thesis on the legalization of
marijuana. I discussed how the marijuana reform is working to legalize marijuana
in several states and the benefits of it. One reason behind my agreeance, was the
idea of taxing and regulating marijuana like alcohol which could potentially bring
more jobs. However I really didn t consider the effect it would have on our children
and the amount of access they will have.
Last year, I spent a lot of time volunteering at my mom s school. This one particular
time a student brought a bag of marijuana to school trying to sell it to other students.

What if the parents abuse the prescription, and use the drug recreationally. Then
these things like edibles due in fact become a problem. Here it is, it s not legal in
the state of Arkansas but there s already problems associated with marijuana and
parenting. There was an article created that addresses the mental capacity of a parent
while using marijuana, and it stated His capacity to parent was impaired by his
marijuana use (unknown, 2015).
With reading this article, it basically said that a court couldn t deny parental rights
because of the use of medical marijuana. A court may consider a parent s marijuana
use to the extent that it affected the best interest of the child even though a parent s
legal medical marijuana use, standing alone, was not a permissible justification to
limit a parent s rights. (Unknown, 2015). Which is basically saying we must wait for
an incident to occur before taking proper action, when we could have alleviated the
school situation before it
Anorexia Essay
The Causes and Effects of Anorexia
When I think of anorexia, a few things come to mind. I think of really bad episodes
of Beverly Hills 90210 and Baywatch in which females, ususally teenagers, starve
themselves and take diet pills. The eating problem is always resolved within the
timespan of one 30 minute episode. From the research I ve done thus far on
anorexia, I now know that this is a very unrealistic representation of what is actually
a very serious disease.
The purpose of this study is twofold. First, I have done extensive research on the
causes and effects of anorexia. Secondly, I will produce a survey that asks basic
questions about anorexia. I will give these to ... Show more content on

Another widespread misconception about the disease of anorexia is that it is a new
disease. Actually, doctors say that anorexia has its roots centuries ago. Through
different time periods, people have fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People
fasted in Biblical times to pay reverence to God or just to exercise self discipline.
Anorexia has been around almost as long as man.(Deth and Vandereycken, 1990)
Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is
not contageous, of course; it is spread through society and the media. For example,
what is known as the quot;Barbie doll syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a
mental disease. People starve themselves so that their bodies will match their
fashion role models. One strong example of this is the quot;waif quot; look that
came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. The quot;in quot; style was to like
like Kate Moss, and girls would do what they had to do to accomplish this
look. Usually, this meant cutting a few meals out of the day.
Fashion, music, movies, television, and radio all contribute to the spread of
anorexia.(Bruch, 1979)
The start of anorexia in a particular patient can be difficult to pinpoint. It tends to
begin during childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These
changes can be: going away to camp, switching
Hamilton Vs The Lion King
There are few shows in the history of Broadway and musical theatre that can claim
to have ever had the popularity and mass intrigue as Lin Manuel Miranda s smash
hit, historical musical Hamilton. The two hour rap based musical tells the story of
America s founding father Alexander Hamilton from his immigration to New York to
rise in power amongst the first presidential cabinet and ultimate death at the hands of
a former ally. Gaining support from celebrities and President Obama only furthered
the popularity of the musical that continues to boast being sold out over a year in

Hamilton, there has been some question as to whether or not Broadway and the world
of music... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in
other shows? This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several
producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance.
The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and
up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to
pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not
willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime
(Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and
unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example being
Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on
Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). The
sweeping change is most noticeable to the majority of the public however, through
the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have proven to be fairly spread
across the board of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the way in
which producers seek to advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget
productions have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less
popular productions have resorted to more consumer based TV ads

Critique of Geoffrey Canada s Fist Stick Knife Gun
The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada is a biographical account of
his childhood in the south Bronx. He and his 4 brothers were raised by only their
mother. She would survive on no more than ten dollars a week. He moved several
times as a child until finally landing on union avenue, the place were many of his life
lessons were learned and at times applied. He learned about the ranking process of
kids on union Ave. and how the only way to improve your status was to use your
fists to fight your way up the chain. Looking back Geoffrey Canada notices the major

The next was Stick . Their wasn t much mention of this phase in his life, but he
does mention the fact that in certain circumstances, a broken bottle or a stick can
be used in self defense when the opponent uses a weapon. The place where this
would happen is at school. The rules of the streets still applied but the problem was
many different gangs associated and congregated at his junior high. So everyone
their follows different rules, some gangs might think the use of weapons is
acceptable, so Union Ave. people have to adjust these circumstances and use a stick
or a broken bottle to defend themselves.
As he grew even older he began to notice other gangs tendencies of carrying knives.
He realized that this fact changed the code of conduct. No longer would be a good
fist fighter keep you from confrontation. Even the most unskilled fighter could win
a fight and be on top if they knew how to swing a blade. One day Geoffrey lucked
out, because he found an old rusted up knife in the gutter. It was his pride and joy.
He could never afford one, so he went to many lengths to get it in working
condition again. Once he returned it to its original shine, he perfected his
techniques of swinging it. The gun gave him a new sense of protection. He walked
with a sense of certainty that if anyone were to mess with him, they would be sorry.
One day however, he realized the realities of what a knife could
Zombie Argument

Essay topic three
The important problems of the mind module are: how do we understand the nature of
mental events, their relation to the physical world and physical events and
fundamentally the problems with other minds. This essay essentially serves to
evaluate whether the Zombie argument against Cartesian Dualism is sound by:
criticising the Zombie argument through analysing the validity of each premise of the
Zombie argument, defending the Zombie argument against one of its objections and
responses from the Cartesian Argument by analogy. This essay will offer reasons to

Therefore one can trust that because one thinks one exists; this leaves each of us with
his/her own mind (Blackburn, 1999: 49). Premise two states that we can and do
know that other people have minds, this can be based on the interactions we have
with other people. The fact that someone else can love you back and you can feel it
makes it possible that they are connected to your mind in the mental realm which can
only mean that they do have a mind. Based on the fact that it is difficult to
conceptualise that one may be the only existent being makes it open to believe that
one is not the only one existent other people do exists and therefore they have minds.
Premise two therefore is valid which diminishes what is presented in premise one
about Cartesian Dualism that we can never know that other people have minds.
Premise three therefore lawfully, following from premise one and two that with the
validity presented in previous premises, states that Cartesian Dualism is false.
The reason why it can be believed that the Zombie argument is true is that we can
know that other people have minds based on experiences, having mutual feelings as
other people and same reactions as other people. This shows that they are conscious
and they do have minds because their reactions are triggered by their mental events
which determine how they should react.

known as the Greater to be able to tell the difference from him and James the Less, of
whom they called because he was shorter. He was born July 25, 0000, the same year
of Jesus. James was a cousin of Jesus, he was the son of a sister of the Virgin Mary.
He was one of the few apostles considered to be in the inner circle of Jesus. He lived
to be 44 years old, of which he became a martyr from execution by sword.
James the Greater was a born son to Zebedee and Salome. He was the eldest child in
his household. His younger brother was named John, who also became the Apostle
John. They were called the sons of thunder. When he was older he became a
fisherman. His

Health, Infrastructure, And Defense
As citizens of the United States, we are used to the best. The best technology, the
best doctors, and the best healthcare. Unfortunately, we have become so conditioned
to receiving the best, that we expect nothing less, regardless of the cost. This has
resulted in a nation that, in 2013, spent 17.1 percent of its annual GDP on
healthcare, as compared to the Netherlands who spent approximately 12.9 percent on
healthcare (World Health Organization). This is a growing problem that must be
addressed as healthcare is a finite commodity that we must allocate efficiently if we
wish to maximize both lives and dollars saved. After all, every dollar spent on
healthcare is one not spent on education, infrastructure, or defense (Tanner). Several
key healthcare coststhat can be attributed to the large amount of spending include
an over diagnosing of prostate and breast cancer, the desire for the newest, more
expensive technology despite a lack of evidence that it is more effective, and
individuals not properly weighing their costs and benefits. If we can manage to
reduce spending as a result of these issues, our country may be able to drastically
reduce spending on healthcare and get back on par with the rest of the world. The
2012 documentary film Money and Medicine sheds some light on a few of the more
key concerns within the United States healthcare system. According to the film, one
of the easiest ways to cut down on healthcare spending is to reduce the number of

How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language
How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language
Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why
English began its rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the
progenitor of the language, once bragged that the Sun never set on the British
Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to all areas of the globe, and the
nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions. Because the
conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple
phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This
same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world
superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a
person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a
single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline.
Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and
the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken
by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that
English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native
speakers than any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the
sheer volume of Chinese make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak
English as a second language because
Training Day Relativism
Training Day
We often have our own perception and belief of what is right and wrong due to our
culture, experience and upbringings. Therefore we often forget that others don t have
the same experiences, background and cultural values as us, allowing them to
perceive certain situation contrary to what we believe is right and wrong. Relativism
allows us to question ourselves and consider the fact that there might not be a wrong
or right action, good or evil characters, true , absolute , or universal answer (Williams
Arrigo, 2008, p. 67). To fully understand the concept of what relativism in the
criminal justice field is about, we have to have a general understanding of the
relativism components such as ethical objectivism and ethical universalism. ... Show

Ethical objectivity is the idea that different observers have the same perception,
ideas, thoughts and feelings. It is based on knowledge claim of what is in front of

Universalism is the application and effect of knowledge on everyone in the same
situation whether it s culture, the person belief, the situation at hand, or even the

Urban Sprawl In Brazil
The first thing to note regards the estimated results is the effectiveness of the
measures of urban sprawl. The population density and the percentage of urban area,
the two most used measures of urban sprawl, fail in capture its effect on the cost of
providing public service in Brazilian municipalities; the parameters estimated, in most
cases, are statistically insignificant and/or have a small value. By its turn, the CV,
which shows the dispersion of the population in the urban area, is insignificant in all
the estimated equations. Whereas, the gravitational index appears to be a better
measure of urban sprawl for Brazilian high urban concentrations. It indicates that the
sprawling movement towards the edge of the municipalities increases some items of
expenditure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A possible explanation for this might be that the model is not well specified for the
spending on urban infrastructure, since the model is common to all categories of
expenditure. If this is the case, some important variables, like political issues and the
spending on infrastructure by other government levels, not added in the model, can
influence the effects of the urban sprawl. This explanation can also be extended to
others expenditure items in which the parameters of urban sprawl are not statistically

Slavery In African American Research Paper
Slavery in America started sometime in 1619, when people from Africa were brought
to Jamestown, Virginia. Slavery lasted in America for some centuries, and the
influence it had on literature is a very vital one. When every citizen in America
preached the phrase Right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness , slaves were being
treated like animals. This inhumane practice revolutionized American arts and
literature. One of the most popular genres in African American literature was slave
narratives that developed in mid 19th century. Slave narratives accounted the harsh
lives of slaves, mostly in the Southern states, and their struggle to freedom. A lot of
these slave narratives inspired the abolitionist struggle, and also inspired in promoting
Wikileaks May Have Saved Tunisia from Political Disaster
Wikileaks main goal has been finding the truth of topics wanted to be hidden to the
public, and in this case their power was used to protect Tunisia. The procedure used
to spread the truth may not be the most appropriate. It is the truth, and it will always

Niccolo Machiavelli.
In some societies such as Tunisia, wikileaks has been so helpful that their fight has
gone from virtual to physical. This is Wikileaks utopia, where a population gets
together and embraces the fight against their government in order to defend their
rights as a country. In Tunisia people did go out to protest and stand for their
freedom of speech right, and all this began in the web.
Tunisians had enough in their plate already, this was just the drop that spilled the
glass. In the past weeks prior freedom of speech strikes, Tunisia was in a very bad
shape. First of all food prices were going up at the same time as the unemployment
rate. Past two characteristics are red flags for any government. On top of all this,
corruption scandals were making the people even angrier. Officially, Tunisia s case is
the first time that wikileaks makes a population take actions in their own hands.
These protests are also about the country s utter lack of freedom of expression
including when it comes to WikiLeaks. The only way that a society would achieve
the status of real democracy is having freedom of
African Religion Paper
Unit IV Scholarly Activity
The religious ceremonies practiced within the African religion attempt to funnel
cosmic energy or power for the betterment of the tribe. These ceremonies serve as a
way for them to build strong relationships with other members of their community,
the gods, their ancestors, and nature spirits. The shrines and altars they use generally
are not a grandiose structure. Often they are not even a permanent structure, they can
be a simple stone marker in someone s yard.
During any ceremony, there is typically singing and dancing. People wear masks to
allow invisible spirits to interact with the human world (Deming, 2015). Before

An increase in inventory is likely to lead to an increase in the cost of managing the

stored for too long.
Sourcing
With the adoption of the SEDEX system, United Biscuits has raised the ethical
standards of its suppliers ensuring that they are in alignment with their overall
sustainability strategy.
The trade off however is a reduction in the pool of suppliers and also an increase in
cost due to the fact that the suppliers might have to increase the price of their goods
in order to stay competitive. The use of direct sourcing agreements also increases the
time and cost of finding and managing new suppliers.
Transport
The recent innovations of using waste oils as an alternative to fuel , optimising
product pack and pallet fill to maximise load and also using canal transport instead
of lorries in Belgium is a cost saving and energy efficient strategy. However the trade
off is that it reduces the frequency at which shipments can be made, which might
result in a longer consolidation period and a reduction in inventory turnover, which

Professionalism In The Workplace
Introduction Professionalism is a term that has existed for a long time. Its definition
varies from one individual or era to the other. For some, being professional is seen
as dressing elegantly at work, or doing an excellent job. For others, however, being
professional is translated as having higher degrees or other certifications. Nonetheless,
professionalism comprises all of these definitions, although it also constitutes much
more. It is the level of aptitude or excellence, as well as the aim, conduct or qualities
that professionals have. A professionis a compensated occupation that necessitates
one to have formal credentials and training as well as a certain range of skills. The

organizational problems as experts incorporate their skills in the affected areas.
Further, unlike in the traditional setups where professionals were self employed

group that regulate and govern their activities and services. Therefore, there is lesser
recognition or value of such as compared to professionals in the past, who were

The World War 2 Rotary Wing Aviation
At the close of World War 2 rotary wing aviation began its transition into a so
called renaissance period. New and exciting advancements were being made to give
new aircraft greater stability and range. After many demonstrations on exactly what
an aircraft could do, the United States Army decided to adopt rotary wing aircraft to
fill a search and rescue (SAR) role initially. During the Korean War, medical
evacuations and search and rescue missions took up the majority of missions for our
pilots. However, we were very limited in what we could achieve. The technology was
primitive in using piston driven engines along with heavier parts than necessary.
Seeing how useful slow moving aircraft were to our forces, Army Aviation leaders

As the title suggested, the program goal was to stock a dedicated light class, rotary
wing system with a multipurpose battlefield role. The helicopter would be called
upon to undertake various missions including that of SAR, MEDEVAC, observation,
transport, reconnaissance, escort, Close Air Support (CAS) and direct attack. (p.1)
During the Korean War, our internal rotary winged aviation assets were performing
duties in a very limited role. Although used extensively and often, the majority of
missions that took place were either lift oriented, medical evacuation and in some
cases reconnaissance. The helicopter most suited for this role at the time was the
Bell H 13 Sioux. The H 13 saw its first flight on 8 December 1945, and marked the
first large scale procurement of a helicopter by the United States Army, being utilized
from 1948 onwards. While great for its time, the H 13 was very limited in what it
could achieve. It was originally fitted with a piston driven engine. Eventually it
would be upgraded to a turbine engine; however the frame was still heavy and even
the upgraded turbine engine didn t make up for the lack of lift being generated by its
measly two bladed rotor system. To say it bluntly, it was overweight and
underpowered, and we wanted something better.

Lab Experiment On Catalase
Abstract
Catalase is an enzyme needed to break down hazardous hydrogen peroxide into
nonhazardous oxygen and water. This is needed for organisms as the reaction rate
of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is too slow to protect cells against the
oxidation of hydrogen peroxide. The purpose of this experiment is to test the
concentration of hydrogen peroxide on catalase and variation in temperature of
catalase to find the optimal values that will produce the highest rate of products. It
was hypothesized that as the concentration of substrates increases, the reaction rate
will as well. The null hypothesis for this is that the substrate concentration will have
no effect on the reaction rate. For the varying temperature of catalase, it was
hypothesized that as the temperature increases, the reaction rate will increase as well
until the enzyme is denatured. The null hypothesis for this is that varying temperature
will have no effect on the reaction rate. The experiment was completed by using a
10mL graduated cylinder filled with water that collected oxygen gas that was
produced by the reaction. From this experiment, one can see that as the amount of
hydrogen peroxide concentration increases, the rate of the reaction increases as
well. The results support this as the average reaction rate starts at 0.00 mL O2/min
for 0.0% hydrogen peroxide and raises to 38.17 mL O2/min for 0.8% hydrogen
peroxide. As the temperature of catalase was increased, rate of reaction continued to
Superman And Me Sherman Alexie Analysis
Family values have an enormous impact on children. These impacts constantly
reveal altered outcomes. In the essay Superman and Me, a Native American boy is
empowered by his heritage to break through stereotypes of intelligence. Likewise,
Stone Soup presents a single mother who breaks through stereotypes to see her
differences as a normality. Although both of these authors are faced with harsh
situations, these essays lead to unlikely empowerment in the end. Whereas Alexie
perceives pride as encouraging others to look past stereotypes of race through
intelligence, Kingsolver perceives pride in the strength of a single mother, a mother
who doesn t make her children any less happy. In the essay Superman and Me,
Sherman Alexie tells an inspirational story of how he managed to push through
standards and encourage Native Americans to want better for themselves. The author
s parents had a significant repercussion on what he wanted of his future. Alexie
states, We were poor by most standards, but one of my parents usually managed to
find some minimum wage job or another, which made us middle class by reservation
standards... We lived on a combination of irregular paychecks, hope, fear, and

Los Alamos and Beyond
While performing graduate studies at Princeton, Feynman decided to find ways to

physicists, to win the race for the A bomb against the Germans. Feynman
responded to the call and joined some of America s greatest minds at Los Alamos
research base. Unfortunately, it was around this time that his wife, Arlene, was
diagnosed with tuberculosis. He was able to keep her nearby in Albuquerque,
where she could reside in a hospital to provide her care. Los Alamos proved to be a
significant shift for Feynman, who was not only amidst some of the greats of the
time, but also working nonstop on a research project. He did, however, find
sufficient time to occupy himself with a new hobby. Recreation was limited at Los
Alamos, and in his spare time Feynman found something of sufficient variety and
complexity to occupy his attention; safecracking. In his spare time he practiced on
the various safes and filing cabinets in Los Alamos, because almost everything there
was sensitive information and was therefore stored in a container with a combination
lock. This skill earned him a quirky repute amongst his peers, whom he would
occasionally leave messages inside their own safes.

##versical Dilemmas, And Peter Singer s The Singer...
The subject of suffering has been a discussion of debate among numerous
philosophers for many decades. In the article, The Singer Solution to World Poverty,
Peter Singer forms two theoretical scenarios to encourage readers to consider their
obligations in aiding children in need; in the poem Musee des Beaux Arts, by W.H.
Auden, employs the use of two paintings to illustrate the indifference of humanity to
individual suffering. At first, readers will say that both pieces are noticeably different
in terms of selflessness, but a thorough inspection of both works uncovers a
misleading truth that imply controversial opinions on the issue. The usage of
imaginary incidents in both writings contain problems of distortion of actuality. The
inaccurate evidence will likely trigger readers to be inclined to reach deceptive
assumptions in regards to the author s proposed solutions.
First, in The Singer Solution to World Poverty, Singer deceives actuality when he
generates two events in which an individual is faced with an ethical dilemma
whether to save a child or sacrifice his or her luxuries. In the second scenario
offered by Singer, Bob faces the choice of either turning the switch on the railroad to
save a child or letting the train destroy his life savings, a Bugatti. Furthermore, people
will condemn Bob for not freeing the child. Though, Singer argues as there is no
distinct line amongst the situation and the real life issue of donating money to
children in need, wealthy

Caesar about me won t you? said the woman while lowering her dagger. Brutus
began to think that she was not going to kill him, but the moment he second
guessed her was his most tragic mistake. When he let down his guard, the woman
slammed her dagger into Brutus leg. He then continued to bleed out, screaming in
agony. The woman and the guards took one last look at Brutus before leaving the
tomb. The New Emperor, Marcus Junius Brutus, was dead. Along with his death,
was the death of his Empire, an Empire that lasted only lasted three short days.
Within a week, all deconstruction of the Temple of Caesar was halted permanently.
The Empire had ended and the Republic of Rome reborn. The population rejoiced
the death of their short lived Ex Emperor. The filled the streets, chanting and singing
all throughout the day and night when they heard the news. The Usurper of Rome

Using the ОІ s for those assets and the methodology learned in this course, determines the appropriate discount rate for the Collinsville investment. We are interested in obtaining the asset beta for Collinsville investment. Here from the reading material, we find there were altogether 6 chemical companies that produce sodium chlorates. They are Hooker, Pennwalt, American, Kerr McGee, Brunswick and Southern. However, since we are evaluating the addition of a sodium chlorate plant, the two firms (Brunswick and Southern) who specialize in producing sodium chlorate are likely the best twins . To determine the asset betas of each company, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, in the given pro forma in Exhibit 8, the cost of salt and other in 1984 was 1836 while that in 1983 is 1956. Thus, the growth rate is (1956 1836)/1836=6.6%. Thirdly, since the total fixed costs account for 14.1% of its sales in the year of 1983 and 1984, we assume the total fixed costs will remain at this level until 1989. Similarly, the account receivable, account payable, and inventories stays at 10%, 5.5% and 4.5% of sales respectively. For the depreciation part, we adopted the straight line method. Here since the depreciation of year 1984 was $1270, we just assumed all the depreciation amount to be equal to $1270 till the year 1989. With all of these previous assumptions, we obtain the complete pro forma financial statement and the cash flow table for the Collinsville Plant. Together with the discount rate we calculated from the first part, we get the NPV of this project is $8737.6. Under this valuation, the $12M offer is high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. 3. Calculate the incremental NPV from adding the laminate technology to the Collinsville plant. What is the NPV of the Collinsville plant with the laminate technology? When we consider the laminate technology, we have to add $2.25M to the CAPX for first year and add $225,000 to depreciation per annum from the second year to the last year. Moreover, we assume the

Canon Scarlet Letter To the Tweed Trolls of the Ivy League schools, Although I don t feel I m qualified to determine what deserves a place on your oh so high and mighty official canon list, I am entitled to my own opinion, and that is what entitles me to make suggestions toward changes in this ever changing, ever evolving canon list of influential works of literature. I would like to point out four works that could be removed from this list, that are either simply outdated, or uninteresting to current generations, and will note books that have the same general theme to take their place. In order to determine which books should be omitted, I asked my family about their opinions on books I ve read that I didn t find interesting, and for replacements I used books... While The God of Small Things deals with social hierarchy and castes, as well as the laws and customs of India, it can be very difficult to follow with the different time periods. We read The God of Small Things in my sophomore English class as well, and even met its author, Arundhati Roy at a conference in Madison. For me the book tried too hard with symbolism, it overflowed with it. Too much symbolism can muddle the book, and can sometimes be even better if it is stripped bare to the basic meaning. To replace The God of Small Things I chose the Divergent series. Although based on a fictional Chicago, Divergent parallels The God of Small Things because it also has to deal with social hierarchy, although in Divergent they were divided into factions rather than castes. The series deals with many different aspects of personality, which also is a theme in The God of Small

One such singer, who has been singing for the past 60 years is non other then my favourite singer Lata Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar is and has been the most heard voice in all of India for some time now. Lata has been active in all Indian popular and classical music, sung film songs, ghazals , bhajans and pop (Nagma, 2004). Lata s mesmerizing melodious voice has won fans all over the Indian subcontinent and the world. As she made her entrance into the film industry, Lata, faced a lot of difficulties because at the time, Punjabi voices controlled the industry. She did not give up even after a few rejections. Finally, director, Ghulam Haider, gave Lata her breakthrough song with Dil Mera Toda from the movie Majboor in 1948. Haider said, Let me foretell today that this girl will soon put to shade everyone else including Noor Jahan (a famous singer of the 1940 s). Producers and signers will fall at her feet begging her to sing in their films. quot; (Kumar, n.d). Initially Lata was heavily influenced by Noor Jahan s whose voice strong and powerful represented the openness, strength and extroversion of the Punjab. In fact Lata was requested by many producers to alter her voice to sound more like Noor Jahan s since the perception was that her thin voice would no go down well with the famed strong and powerful voice of Noor Jahan (Parikmunir, 2004). 1949 became a powerful year for Lata s career. When I am asked this question, I will always respond, plastic . Plastic , because it is more convenient to carry and easier to discard. When I am asked this question and I am thinking about the environment, my immediate response is none of the above as I know that reusable bags will be better for the environment. However, this paper will compare and contrast paper and plastic bags throughout their product life cycle using life cycle analysis (LCA). Both paper and plastic go through similar stages in their birth to death lifespans. They are: Acquisition of Raw Materials Manufacturing and Processing Distribution and Transportation Use and Reuse, and finally Disposal When analyzing both paper and plastic bags across these cycles, paper and plastic will both consume energy (renewable and non renewable) and produce pollutants. This LCA will determine the more environmentally friendly choice. Acquisition of Raw MaterialsThe raw material for paper bags is trees while the raw material for plastic bags is oil. Trees are a renewable resource as long as trees are not being cut down faster than new trees being planted. Oil is a non renewable fossil fuel. According to NBC News Chief Environmental Correspondent, Anne Thompson, 14 million trees are required for paper bags and 12 million barrels of oil are required for plastic bags in one year (NBC News,

Nothing here should concern the American public. Genetic testing for abnormalities saves children from a life of significant disability and spares their parents painful stress. The subsequent abortions avoid a wretched existence for the children and improves the quality of life for their surviving families. That is not genocide; it is compassion and mercy. Moreover, it relieves both the parents and society from having to shoulder severe medical expenses for care. What deserves the rebuke? It is the system with all of its subtle pressures that promotes eugenic genocide. That is what is being done, and that is the real enemy. For hidden within this system lurks a sinister, half conscious, genetic selection system. If awakened fully, it will snap eagerly to attention to do its job. What is that? The passion to play god, expressed in the arbitrary elimination of entire people groups deemed aesthetically undesirable and, therefore, less than human. It is the opening shot in a war a war over who is worthy of birth (humanity) and who is not (non human garbage). How could that be? What expert can assure that Iceland s focus will not broaden to include other genetic traits that have nothing to do with disability but are just unfavored socially? The precedent has been set. If history is any guide, that is precisely what will happen. Gender is not a disease, but sexual selection is already an international problem. Moreover, advocates for the disabled currently sound the alarm for the future, such as Lloyd Lewis (president of the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition). • 7. The Business Judgment Rule Has Served For Decades As The... The business judgment rule has served for decades as the most important protection against personal liability for directors and officers. And it also has been criticized frequently as providing too much protection for the directors and officers of corporations. It is the time for some changes to be made to business judgment rule. A: Economic Environment Changes The business judgment rule is designed to prevent courts from second guessing the quality of a decision, which made by directors and officers. Because the modern organizational structure of corporations allows shareholders, who actually own the corporationto elect a board of directors to manage the corporation, these directors and officers have more business experience and are more familiar with the needs, strengths, and limitations of the corporation than shareholders and the courts. Therefore the business judgment rule recognizes that the directors and officers are best able to make business judgments. The business judgment rule originated in 1945 in Otis Co. v. Pennsylvania R. Co [2], the corporate directors were sued because they only dealing with one investment house and not shop around for the best possible price available in the sale of securities. The federal district court held that the directors chose the wrong course of action in good faith therefore do not subject to liability for negligence in the discharge of their appointed duties. • 8. Imagery And Their Mind Through Descriptions And Sensory... Imagery is the use of language to create mental pictures in one s mind through descriptions and sensory perceptions (Wheeler). In Digging, Heaney establishes the setting of the poem by describing that he is in what seems to be a room with a window that overlooks an area of green. He starts the poem off with Between my finger and my thumb / The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. / Under my window, a clean rasping sound / When the spade sinks into gravelly ground: / My father, digging. I look down ( Digging ). He uses the appeals to sound, as in a clean rasping sound and the spade sinks into gravelly ground, as well as appeals to sight, I look down, and appeals to touch, [b]etween my finger and my thumb, to create an image in the reader s mind of what that day, or perhaps thought, looked like. The image that is created is one that shows contrast, in this case between an unidentified narrator and his father. As the poem continues, Heaney describes But I ve no spade to follow men like them. / Between my finger and my thumb / The squat pen rests. / I ll dig with it. The contrast that this furthers is the idea that the narrator is very different from his father, creating a divide that can be the start of tension. Because the narrator and his father cannot necessarily understand each other due to these differences, as each chooses his different approach to digging, the narrator seems to understand that not much can be done about the father s choice to remain a

The number of people arrested for marijuana law violations in 2013 was 693,482 which costs the United States more than $51,000,000,000 annually (Way, 2013). The governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, in 2012 signed an executive order becoming the nation s first statewide vote to end marijuana prohibition. Making recreational use and home cultivation of small amounts of marijuana legal in the state of Colorado for adults 21 years of age and older. According to the Colorado Center on Law and Policy amendment 64 will save the state $12 million in savings for the year 2013 because of a deduction in criminal costs. Courts and prisons are seeing less violations due to issues with marijuana so there is no need to spend as much of the tax payer s money on them. Legalization of marijuana will not only benefit the states by reduced law enforcement expenses but will also create jobs. Marijuana is a billion dollar industry that the government is missing out on. With the legalization for the popular drug comes an abundance of career options and job opportunities. There will be a need for companies that can make pipes, bongs, vaporizers, papers and other products associated with weed which will then create job openings. It will also create large amounts of profit and revenue from the sales tax that the government could implement. On the market there will be a new product being produced and sold increasing gross domestic product for the United States. It is expected that the legal use of recreational marijuana could increase Washington State s tax revenue by $25 million by July of 2015, with an estimated $200 million increase by mid 2017, according to state economists (Shumacher,
  • 10. How Does Shakespeare Present Women In Juliet And Desdemona Elizabethan women were subservient to men and dependent on their male relatives. Women were expected to act as dutiful daughters, mothers and wives, yet anything contrary to that was deemed shameful. It is for this reason that Shakespeare depicts women as capable of defying social norms and notions as seen through the characters: Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Desdemona in Othello. While both female characters challenge the status quo, Desdemona is more successful. This is demonstrated through the disobedience shown towards parents, the fortitude to voice opinions and dominance over male counterparts.By comparison, Juliet and Desdemona challenge the status quo through displaying disobedience towards their parents. Juliet disobeys her family when she insidiously falls in love and marries a Montague; Romeo. The Montague s and Capulet s are mortal enemies so Juliet contemplates and decides to leave her family to be with him, O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? /Deny thy father and refuse thy... Brabantio presumes Desdemona has been put under a spell for there is no other reason she would do such a thing. As Juliet disobeys her whole family in loving their enemy, Desdemona deceives her father and innate racism by marring Othello. The concept of a white female willingly with an African American male is absurd and nefarious. That is indeed why Desdemona more successfully challenges the status quo. Differing from Juliet, Shakespeare uses her authentic relationship with Othello to demur a major injustice: racism. On the whole, Juliet and Desdemona challenge the status quo by disobeying their

Usually this luxury is taken for granted, because the money that is earned is always enough to supply our everyday need and the work day is finished before the next night. Working conditions were not always this good. These good working routines gradually came into action growing from the Industrial Revolution. The women that were employed were paid way less than that of the men and they would work for long, exhausting hours. Women were also employed before men because they had small hands and could work quicker. With their small hands they would easily unjam the machines and they could operate sewing machines with better ease than men could. The children that were employed were usually 14 16 years of age and they too would work to support their families. When these children were sent to work in the morning they would most likely not return until the next day. Most children would normally work in the coal mines and in the sewing and textile industry. External evolutions of technological and cultural factors can all impact the success of an intended organizational change. Still, such change is often needed to keep an organization healthy. Overall, the main reason is to increase the overall success of the organization, whether it is the operational flow or the organizational culture itself. Truman was an outline for the basic foreign policy that America would use against Communism and the Soviet Union for nearly four decades. While President Truman assumed office while inexperienced in global affairs, the doctrine demonstrated his firm stewardship on foreign policy. The doctrine, which was eventually adopted as an international relations policy, was introduced in a speech regarding intentions of the country to help Turkey and Greece with military and economic support for them to avoid falling into the Soviet sphere. The main goal of the doctrine was to help free individuals who were opposing initiatives by armed minorities towards suppression. Through different time periods, people have fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People fasted in Biblical times to pay reverence to God or just to exercise self discipline. Anorexia has been around almost as long as man.(Deth and Vandereycken, 1990) Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is not contageous, of course; it is spread through society and the media. For example, what is known as the quot;Barbie doll syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a mental disease. People starve themselves so that their bodies will match their fashion role models. One strong example of this is the quot;waif quot; look that came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. It tends to begin during childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These changes can be: going away to camp, switching

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in other shows? This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example being Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). The sweeping change is most noticeable to the majority of the public however, through the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have proven to be fairly spread across the board of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the way in which producers seek to advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget productions have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less popular productions have resorted to more consumer based TV ads

Therefore one can trust that because one thinks one exists; this leaves each of us with his/her own mind (Blackburn, 1999: 49). Premise two states that we can and do know that other people have minds, this can be based on the interactions we have with other people. The fact that someone else can love you back and you can feel it makes it possible that they are connected to your mind in the mental realm which can only mean that they do have a mind. Based on the fact that it is difficult to conceptualise that one may be the only existent being makes it open to believe that one is not the only one existent other people do exists and therefore they have minds. Premise two therefore is valid which diminishes what is presented in premise one about Cartesian Dualism that we can never know that other people have minds. Premise three therefore lawfully, following from premise one and two that with the validity presented in previous premises, states that Cartesian Dualism is false. The reason why it can be believed that the Zombie argument is true is that we can know that other people have minds based on experiences, having mutual feelings as other people and same reactions as other people. This shows that they are conscious and they do have minds because their reactions are triggered by their mental events which determine how they should react.

This has resulted in a nation that, in 2013, spent 17.1 percent of its annual GDP on healthcare, as compared to the Netherlands who spent approximately 12.9 percent on healthcare (World Health Organization). How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why English began its rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the progenitor of the language, once bragged that the Sun never set on the British Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to all areas of the globe, and the nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions. Because the conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline. Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native speakers than any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the sheer volume of Chinese make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak English as a second language because

Sourcing With the adoption of the SEDEX system, United Biscuits has raised the ethical standards of its suppliers ensuring that they are in alignment with their overall sustainability strategy. The trade off however is a reduction in the pool of suppliers and also an increase in cost due to the fact that the suppliers might have to increase the price of their goods in order to stay competitive. The use of direct sourcing agreements also increases the time and cost of finding and managing new suppliers. Transport The recent innovations of using waste oils as an alternative to fuel , optimising product pack and pallet fill to maximise load and also using canal transport instead of lorries in Belgium is a cost saving and energy efficient strategy. New and exciting advancements were being made to give new aircraft greater stability and range. After many demonstrations on exactly what an aircraft could do, the United States Army decided to adopt rotary wing aircraft to fill a search and rescue (SAR) role initially. During the Korean War, medical evacuations and search and rescue missions took up the majority of missions for our pilots. However, we were very limited in what we could achieve. The technology was primitive in using piston driven engines along with heavier parts than necessary. Seeing how useful slow moving aircraft were to our forces, Army Aviation leaders began... The helicopter would be called upon to undertake various missions including that of SAR, MEDEVAC, observation, transport, reconnaissance, escort, Close Air Support (CAS) and direct attack. (p.1) During the Korean War, our internal rotary winged aviation assets were performing duties in a very limited role. Although used extensively and often, the majority of missions that took place were either lift oriented, medical evacuation and in some cases reconnaissance. The helicopter most suited for this role at the time was the Bell H 13 Sioux. The H 13 saw its first flight on 8 December 1945, and marked the first large scale procurement of a helicopter by the United States Army, being utilized from 1948 onwards. While great for its time, the H 13 was very limited in what it could achieve. It was originally fitted with a piston driven engine. Eventually it would be upgraded to a turbine engine; however the frame was still heavy and even the upgraded turbine engine didn t make up for the lack of lift being generated by its measly two bladed rotor system. To say it bluntly, it was overweight and underpowered, and we wanted something better. With Technical Specification 153 released, civilian companies immediately started building and presenting concepts to secure the

  • 37. Lab Experiment On Catalase Abstract Catalase is an enzyme needed to break down hazardous hydrogen peroxide into nonhazardous oxygen and water. This is needed for organisms as the reaction rate of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is too slow to protect cells against the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide. The purpose of this experiment is to test the concentration of hydrogen peroxide on catalase and variation in temperature of catalase to find the optimal values that will produce the highest rate of products. It was hypothesized that as the concentration of substrates increases, the reaction rate will as well. The null hypothesis for this is that the substrate concentration will have no effect on the reaction rate. For the varying temperature of catalase, it was hypothesized that as the temperature increases, the reaction rate will increase as well until the enzyme is denatured. The null hypothesis for this is that varying temperature will have no effect on the reaction rate. The experiment was completed by using a 10mL graduated cylinder filled with water that collected oxygen gas that was produced by the reaction. From this experiment, one can see that as the amount of hydrogen peroxide concentration increases, the rate of the reaction increases as well. The results support this as the average reaction rate starts at 0.00 mL O2/min for 0.0% hydrogen peroxide and raises to 38.17 mL O2/min for 0.8% hydrogen peroxide. As the temperature of catalase was increased, rate of reaction continued to

In the article, The Singer Solution to World Poverty, Peter Singer forms two theoretical scenarios to encourage readers to consider their obligations in aiding children in need; in the poem Musee des Beaux Arts, by W.H. Auden, employs the use of two paintings to illustrate the indifference of humanity to individual suffering. At first, readers will say that both pieces are noticeably different in terms of selflessness, but a thorough inspection of both works uncovers a misleading truth that imply controversial opinions on the issue. The usage of imaginary incidents in both writings contain problems of distortion of actuality. The inaccurate evidence will likely trigger readers to be inclined to reach deceptive assumptions in regards to the author s proposed solutions. First, in The Singer Solution to World Poverty, Singer deceives actuality when he generates two events in which an individual is faced with an ethical dilemma whether to save a child or sacrifice his or her luxuries. In the second scenario offered by Singer, Bob faces the choice of either turning the switch on the railroad to save a child or letting the train destroy his life savings, a Bugatti. Furthermore, people will condemn Bob for not freeing the child. Though, Singer argues as there is no distinct line amongst the situation and the real life issue of donating money to children in need, wealthy
