Ten ways to turn your learners into zombiesCammy Bean
Want to build a zombie army? Want to make sure you turn your employees and learners into mindless beasts, with drooling lips and glazed eyes? Then turn them into zombies with elearning that's truly horrifying! Ten tips for making horrendous elearning, followed by some silver bullets of design if your real aim is to keep them human and alive.
Eight Ways to Make Your Learners Fall in LoveCammy Bean
So much eLearning just makes people want to break up with their training departments. How can you turn that relationship around and get people to fall in love with eLearning? Try one of these eight smooth moves you can use to win their hearts and minds (plus an extra special bonus move to really get that lovin' feeling going strong.) Love really is the answer.
Beyond your studies ~ You studied X at Y. now what?
HackPra, July 2018
A student's life ago, the author somehow managed to graduate.
On the way, he made a lot of mistakes -- and he still does.
A few people since called him 'successful', but LOL, if only they knew....
And now, the author will do another (big!) mistake:
instead of hiding in shame as he probably should,
he'll share his mistakes with anyone bored enough to attend,
in the hope that he's the last person to ever look that dumb to commit such mistakes.
If you're a genius and you know what to do in life, please skip this. Seriously.
If, like the author at the time, you wonder WTF is going on with graduation, professional work and life, then hopefully you learn a few things. Maybe.
Btw the author is 42 (WTF - old!).
Maybe that will help to provide a few answers.
You are *not* an idiot ~ or maybe we're all idiots.
Keynote at NorthSec 2021.
Talking about school, failure, success, diploma, impostor syndrom, manipulators, burn out, suicide, and how to deal with them.
The talk delivery was more personal, the slides are kept generic.
The recording is available @ https://youtu.be/Iu70J49bPlE?t=20869 (starts at 5:47:49)

Blended Learning for Compliance Training WebinarKineo
Contrary to what some may think, compliance training is not the “enemy.” No, the problem we’re facing is the fact that so many organizations simply slap a bunch of bullets and boxes on a screen, force learners to sit through countless slides, and call it “training.” This makes for a very unpleasant experience that learners dread. And we don’t blame them.
Just because we have to do something, doesn’t mean it needs to be awful. Let’s consider a different approach, a blended approach. In this webinar presented by Cammy Bean, VP of Learning Design, and Chip Cleary, VP of Solutions & Consulting, they will discuss how blended learning design can make a difference for your compliance training.
Chip and Cammy discussed:
- Discuss key challenges with compliance training
- How to develop a “blend” that works for compliance
- Share real-life use cases and examples of great compliance training “blends”

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
6. Zombie Hunter Tactic: Create a front door worth
• A branded LMS
6
experience.
• Engaging
• Interactive
• Easy to
navigate
• Generates
intrigue
…and leaves
learners wanting
more
opening.
7. 7
So good you could eat it up…
Yum! This LMS
looks better
than brains.
8. 8
2. Kill Their Feelings
Zombies don’t need to feel, right…?
9. 9
…and numb them with boring learning objectives.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Blah
• Blah
• Blah
• Blah
• And more blah…
Click here for extra blah, blah blah…
Are you brain dead yet?
21. 21
Drone. On. And On. And On….
If seeking to build a zombie army, it is critical that
the general follows important steps to zombify
those individuals seeking to escape the general’s
domain by hunting them down with boring
instructional design speak, copious amounts of
corporate jargon, while also numbing their brains
with fact after fact of repetitious blather that will
go in one ear like a worm only to consume the
individual’s brain and thus, successfully, turn him
or her into a zombie. Mmmm....brains. Brains!
22. 22
Zombie Hunter Tactic: Take a high-empathy
approach. Talk to your learners like human beings -
-warm their cold, dead hearts.
42. 42
Don’t give them false hope for the future and DON’T
provide any motivation, support, or encouragement.
You have completed this
course.
There is nothing more
until the next course.
THERE IS NO EXIT.
And there was no point..
46. 9. Isolate them. Don’t allow any opportunities for
46
them to connect with others.
47. Zombie Hunter Tactic: Get social and informal.
47
Hey, how did
you do this? What do you
think?
Here’s my idea.
I’d love some
feedback.
What are some
best practices
for this?
This is a challenge
for my department?
What ideas do you have?
48. 10. Don’t play games. (Zombies don’t know how
48
to have fun.)
Zzzzzzz…
49. Zombie Hunter Tactic: Get your learners out of zombie land
and into gaming land (no drooling or glazed eyes here.)
49
51. 51
The Zombie Hunter’s Rule Book:
1. Make a really nice front door (your LMS)
2. Get their attention and make it emotional
3. Avoid the info dump. Give it life through stories.
4. Talk to them like human beings.
5. Make the activities relevant and reflective.
6. Make the visuals matter and avoid cheesy stock images.
7. Give them choices and let them explore.
8. Provide a call to action and give them hope for the future.
9. Enable and empower them connect with each other and
collaborate.
10.Make it fun with games and incentives.
