The goal of this presentation is to provide a brief overview of current situation in a field of document accessibility at Masaryk University, Brno, describe the current state, issues we face, and present some suggestions how to fix them.
Higher Education Provision of Accessible Information for Learning: GuidelinesIAU-HEEFA
Isabelle Turmaine, IAU Director of Information Products and Services, presents the results of testing of e-accessibility guidelines undertaken by IAU higher education institution members.
Given at the IAU Seminar on higher education for Education and e-accessibility (IAU HEEFA-ICT4IAL) held on 18-19 November 2014, Ankara, Turkey
15 Years After an OCR Suit: NC State’s Accessibility RefreshPatrick Loftus
In 1999, NC State University entered into a voluntary resolution resulting from three complaints filed from the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR). The resolution agreement resulted in the creation of a campus-wide IT accessibility policy, an accessibility coordinator position, and other essential accessibility resources that were relevant at the time.
But what does accessibility at NC State University look like 15 (actually 17) years later? After so much time, it would be easy to fall behind or fail to maintain the established accessibility standards.
In this session, Grey Reavis (University IT Accessibility Coordinator) and Rebecca Sitton (Assistive Technology Coordinator) will look at how they are creating a proactive strategy to address the current risk areas on campus.
Topics will include:
The history of accessibility at NC State
The OCR complaints and the major initiatives that came out of them
NC State's risk assessment process and current initiatives
How awareness of OCR complaints influences campus climate and changes
NC State's campus-wide accessibility policy
Faculty training
Working to make accessibility a proactive priority on campus
Researching student mobility in a digital worldSteven Verjans
Presentation of the results of research into digital barriers for student mobility (final report of the Victorious project - http://www.victorious-project.org/ )

Examining the practicalities of accessibility and inclusion in post-pandemic ...Frederic Fovet
The push for extensive online teaching and learning had begun well before the COVID pandemic and the online pivot, but the last three years have dramatically intensified the reflection around what Education 4.0 might look like in the post-secondary. Consensus appears to privilege hybrid and blended learning as the format which is most likely to optimally meet the needs of learners in coming decades. Lessons from the three years of pandemic disruption have been rich and nuanced in this respect. Within this phenomenal momentum of pedagogical creativity and innovation, however, the situation in relation to accessibility and full inclusion of all diverse learners has been ambivalent, and the experiences of diverse students have been contradictory. This session showcases the qualitative analysis of phenomenological data collected among accessibility and inclusion specialists within higher education – faculty and support staff - regarding the challenges and opportunities encountered during these transformative three years. The theoretical paradigm within which this data is showcased and analyzed is interpretivist, but the work also acknowledges preoccupations of critical theory/ critical pedagogy. The discussion that emerges from these findings will focus on the ways these pandemic lessons on inclusive teaching and learning can now serve as an exceptional window to proactively frame smart pedagogies of the future that leave out no stakeholders. The final section of the session examines ways to integrate these pandemic lessons to generate sustainable best practices for accessibility and inclusion in transformative blended learning spaces, that succeed in going beyond ad hoc interventions and retrofitting.

A Survey on Autism Spectrum Disorder and E-Learningrahulmonikasharma
Autism or mental imbalance is turmoil in the development and improvement of a mind or central nervous system that covers a huge range of skills, impairment and symptoms. The children who are experiencing autism (or mental imbalance) confront challenges in conveying and adjusting in the group as they experience difficulty in understanding what others feel and think. These days learning innovations changed instructive frameworks with amazing advancement of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Moreover, when these innovations are accessible, reasonable and available, they speak to more than a change for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this paper, a writing study and foundation study is done on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and E-Learning System for Autism Children.

The Long Road from Reactive to Proactive: Developing an Accessibility Strategy3Play Media
Implementing accessibility policies in higher education is no easy task. For many, it is easy to get caught in a cycle of reactive accommodation where larger accessibility policies are never implemented. So how do you transition from reactive policies to proactive policies?
Korey Singleton, the Assistive Technology Initiative Manager at George Mason University, will walk you through their two-year process of moving from reactive solutions to proactive accessibility policies. His own experience with how difficult it can be to shift campus climate and administrative support towards proactive accessibility is incredibly useful for other universities struggling with the same thing. His detailed presentation will provide insight into how George Mason has overcome these challenges and developed a proactive approach to accessibility.
This webinar will cover:
- Collaborative strategies for campus-wide IT accessibility
- Strategies for getting faculty to use and create accessible material
- George Mason's accessibility policies & recent updates
- Workflow, collaboration, and policy recommendations
- Resources for accessibility training and testing
- Analysis of completed accessible media requests by fiscal year

Potřeby a zpětná vazba uživatelů? Altruismus?

How to improve UX by implementing accessibilityRadek Pavlíček
Accessibility is often connected to the needs and demands of people with impairement. This presentation - by means of practical examples - shows that vast majority of users can benefit from accessibility.
Lehký úvod do přístupnosti HTML5 a WAI-ARIA.
Accessibility can bring a lot of benefits also for libraries – reduction of operation costs, raising of amount of visitors or improvement of library´s PR. Let´s show how even a small change on a web page could dramatically increase its accessibility and help to gain benefits, that accessibility brings.
Let me also briefly introduce you our way of accessibility evaluation in Biblioweb contest, show you the problems, which we often meet and ways, how it´s possible to remove these barriers.
Slajdy k mé prezentaci Přístupné weby knihoven, kterou jsem přednesl na Knihovnickém workshopu ve Svitavách v pondělí 14. května 2012.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

How to ensure accessibility of documents, published at masaryk university
1. How to ensure accessibility of study
materials,
published at Masaryk University
Radek Pavlíček, Teiresias Centre, Masaryk University, Brno
2. Mission of Teiresias Centre is to guarantee accessibility of all
study programmes at Masaryk University. Nowadays we quite
often face issues connected with documents inaccessibility.
3. Although we are able to prepare materials, meeting the accessibility
requirements, there is still a lot what should be done to ensure better
accessibility of study materials in general and make the preparation
easier.
4. hundreds of students with special needs
thousands of employees
Although the vast majority of university students with special needs in
the Czech Republic are students of Masaryk University, it is true that
study materials are almost exclusively created and published with
respect to the needs and preferences of students without special
needs.
5. Changes, leading to the document
accessibility, are often made only with an
intuition and empathy and reflect only
needs of particular student.
6. Our mission is to change this state and prepare a conception
of complex universal learning design environment, in which
following goals are reached according to the general
standards and regardless this or that specific kind of
accessibility is currently required.
7. In this presentation I would like to focus on demands
and needs of students with visual impairment.
8. Theirs demands can be covered mostly by technical
means and authors could quite easily learn them and
start to use them.
Good structure
Sufficient Accessible PDF
contrast
9. Resources
Resources, in which study materials are published, and
ways, how they are created, are very heterogeneous. A
couple of examples follows.
18. Human factors
• Authors don´t have sufficient awareness and
knowledge about accessibility or they aren´t
interested in accessibility.
• Students don´t have sufficient knowledge how
to use their assistive technologies to read
study materials they are provided.
• Sometimes it´s quite difficult to get the
information which study materials student
really needs.
19. Legal Factors
• There is no conception yet in evaluating
accessibility of study materials. Nowadays it´s
is done only on demand.
• Authoritative source of techniques, practical
advices and tutorials how to create accessible
study materials (or documents in general) is
missing.
20. Technical factors
• Students have outdated technical equipment
(screen readers, screen magnifiers).
• Some “umbrella web portal”, gathering all the
information about accessibility, links to the other
resources, contacts, help, etc. is missing.
• There are accessibility issues concerning not only
the study materials, but also the environment in
which they are presented.
• There is no way how to in time and easily get the
information that student with special needs
enroll for concrete course.
21. Here are my suggestions, how to fix
some issues in human, legal and
technical factors mentioned before.
23. Human factors
• Accessibility training courses for authors.
• Wider technical and methodological
assistance to authors of study materials.
24. Legal factors
• Include a duty to create accessible documents
as a part of some university directive.
• The proposed EU Directive on the accessibility
of public-sector bodies’ websites.
25. Technical factors (1/2)
• To have a possibility to get information from
Masaryk University Information System, that
student with special needs enrolled for
concrete course.
• To have a permanent approach to sources
which can be an alternative for standard
printed study materials, which are not publicly
available.
26. Technical factors (2/2)
• To have a tool, enabling automatic
accessibility evaluation of study materials,
which are uploaded to Masaryk University
Information System.
• To create Web portal (e.g.
pristupnost.muni.cz), gathering all the
information about accessibility and universal
learning design, contacts, tutorial,
directives/guidelines, etc.
