Internalized Oppression And Violence Against Hagar By...
Liberationist, feminist, and womanist theologies aims and goals are not simply to understand
biblical texts and traditions in light of their historical contexts, but to highlight the structures of
power that marginalize and suppress subjects; they also emphasize the effects of these structures on
the lives of the dominated persons. Brazilian Paulo Freire asserts that the oppressed are
manifestations of dehumanization and internalizes their oppression. Consequently, they are divided
in and among themselves. This paper will address the concerns of genderoppression, internalized
oppression and the subjugation, exploitation, and violence against Hagar. As a scholar who engages
in a hermeneutic of privileging the lived experiences of African women

Knight s Role In Warfare During The Middle Ages
A knight s role and the impact heavy cavalry had on warfare have greatly varied throughout the
period of the Middle Ages. Although knight s dominated the battlefield and had a huge cultural
value in society you cannot ignore the impact that technology has had on their role. These
technological advances such as the longbow, the introduction of light cavalry and developments
such as gunpowder and artillery, the tactical developments such as sieges and the general
organisation surrounding warfare resulted in knights declining in social value, status and
affectability as well as a more dramatic yet gradual metamorphosis into the heavily armoured tank
divisions in today s modern armies.
It has always been a greatly contested debate as to when the Middle ... Show more content on

This is demonstrated mainly by the speed and manoeuvrability riding on horseback provided.
Speed could be converted into shock as the enemy if unaware of a knight s potential power ground
could be covered quickly before the enemy had a chance to provide a defence mechanism and
would have no option to surrender. This however was only evident in the early Middle Ages,
showing that heavy cavalry would not be the most dominant force throughout the entirety of the
Middle Ages. However this speed and manoeuvrability did not always result in the knight being the
dominant figure. The knight may have been dominant in the West where the terrain was favourable
and the heat moderate but when traveling to Jerusalem for the crusades they were less well suited
to endurance in a hot climate and clumsy and unmanoeuvrable making them ineffective and
vulnerable to the enemy. This shows how even though they may dominant warfare in Western
Europe they were too heavy to cover ground effectively and not as moveable as the lighter eastern
cavalry, which weighed approximately 700 to 900lbs to the Western 1,200 to

Essay on Simon vs. Roger in Lord of the Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Simon represents the innate morality of humans, acting
as a Christ like figure, while Roger embodies the all present cruelty and inherent sadism of
individuals. Throughout the novel, Simon remains unchanged in terms of morality, as others
slowly turn to savagery and hunting, as can be seen when Jack s group become, demoniac
figures with faces of white and red and green. Instead Simon finds a quiet spot in a little cabin
screened off from the open space by a few leaves. By holding his breath, he [cocks] a critical ear
at the sounds of the island, using his secret cabin to meditate. Coupled with his deep connection to
nature, Simon is revealed to be a Christ figure. When left alone with the... Show more content on

He led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the
chosen stones, only to remain, watching the littluns. Maurice, however, still felt the unease of
wrongdoing. Jack s only fault was yearning for power, which corrupts those who wield it. Roger
is corrupted and malevolent without ever thirsting for this power, and is therefore more evil
than Jack. Roger keeps to himself, much like Simon, and remains consistently evil throughout
the novel. Near the beginning, he picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry threw it to
miss, held back by the taboo of the old life. Later, he did not miss and with a sense of delirious
abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever, releasing a huge boulder and killing Piggy.
Under the weight of the boulder, the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased
to exist. The main symbol for the democracy, equality and justice was indirectly destroyed by
Roger. To him, Ralph was a shock of hair and Piggy a bag of fat, thus dehumanizing and
objectifying them. When Sam and Eric were cornered by Jack s group of savages, Roger
demonstrates his enjoyment for hurting others by [advancing] upon them as one wielding a
nameless authority. It was not for the sake of supremacy or control, but for unbridled sadistic
pleasure. When Ralph finds Sam and Eric, they say that Roger is a terror . He also points out that

Good Life In The Great Gatsby
A goal tempted to be achieved by people all over the world is the good life. The idea of endless
happiness is pleasing to everyone. Three components found in achieving the good life is an
intensive feeling of affection a person feels, when their heart starts racing when they see
something they love. Feeling belonged in a society helps a person feel connected and less lonely,
and significance to the world and to the people, feeling that one was put on this earth to make a
change. In an individual s life love, status and significance to the world and one another, are the
basic components in making the good life achievable. Achieving the feeling of love is desperately
wanted among everyone, in a person s lifetime the feeling of love... Show more content on

In a society people will compete and challenge others to have better status than others. Societies
all around the world work around status and every person works to have a good outlook on
themselves so others are intrigued. Glamorous lifestyles, known by everyone is the lifestyle
everyone wants to achieve, in the Great Gatsby social status is the hidden message behind every
action Gatsby did. Gatsby would throw lavish parties to keep his high class outlook. In Great
Gatsby it states, In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the
whisperings and the champagne and the stars... on weekends his Rolls Royce became an
omnibus, hearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and ling past midnight..
scrubbing brushes and hammers and garden shears, repairing the ravages of the night before.
(3.1). The high glamour of Gatsby parties was loved by all around the community, Gatsby was
seen as the mysterious high class man who was elegant with expensive personal items which
exemplified his class, and throwed the best parties, his status was amazing and he strived to keep
that up because it was important to him. Commenting on the idea of status, a report was written
about Social Class and Status in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby stated, Gatsby s success is
dependent on the fact that he did not follow the rules of society. In A Corruption of Character
(2008), by Halmstad University. this provides a visualization that Gatsby was different from those
in a society, which made him stand out more when he hosted insane parties, making his status in the

We created a scatter plot of the minimum sample size at a range of anticipated effect sizes given
the probability level of 0.05, the five predictor variables in our conceptual model, and the
generally accepted statistical power threshold of 0.8 (Cohen, 1988). Based on the availability of
stock price data for measuring the dependent variable, we focused on Fortune 1000 MNEs since
1990, which narrowed down the possible incidents from 141,967 in the GTD to 158 terrorist
incidents, representing 37 different MNEs. Variables Table 5 identifies and operationalizes the
independent, moderating, control, and dependent variables used in the conceptual model of
terrorism and international business. First, Firm Performance Resilience is the dependent
variable. Consistent with the Gittell et al. (2006) study of the airline industry after 9/11, we
measure resilience as the number of days it takes for a firm s stock price to rebound to the price
on the trading day prior to the terrorist attack. The idea here is that the shock of a terrorist attack
would drive the stock price down, but that more resilient firms would bounce back faster because
the more resilient firms have pre established, effective processes and plans to cope with the
impacts of such an attack. We source the stock prices for firms traded on U.S. stock exchanges
from the Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP) Daily

All The Light We Cannot See Quotes
I m only trying to make sense of this war inside my head. This quote relates to the characters in
All The Light We Cannot See because everyone is battling with love, truth, or identity while
battling the war in Europe. Marie Laure is living in Saint Malo with her crazy great uncle while the
war is raging on outside the city. Werner was accepted into the Hitler Youth
School and was sent out
into the war to track resistance radio signals. Sergeant von Rumpel is also on the search for the
Sea of Flames diamonds, and what Marie Laure doesn t know about her father can greatly hurt her.
In this novel, three of the characters are searchingfor either truth, love, or identity.
Knowing the difference between the truth and lies is a very common theme in All The Light
We Cannot See. Many characters are lied to by their loved ones and about things that can affect
them greatly, and von Rumpel wants to know the truth about the location about the Sea of
Flames. Sergeant von Rumpel is in dire need of the Sea of Flames diamond, so he can showcase
it in his new museum. He will do whatever is needed to locate the diamond among the vastness of
Europe and the war. Before Paris was invaded, the Museum of Natural History made three
replicas of the diamond and gave the replicas and the real diamond to four trustworthy
employees. The catch: none of them knew if they had a replica of the real diamond. Von
Rumpel was in Paris and found the shop of Dupont, which the owner later admitted to making
replicas and dispersing them in many locations. Once von Rumpel found out the locations, he
was even more determined to find all four diamonds . Especially because he recently found out
that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, and the stone is known to help a person live forever.
He has visited many places in search for the replicas or the diamond: Three replicas. Plus the real
stone. Somewhere on this planet among its sextillion grains of sand. Von Rumpel has visited the
museum, a jeweler, multiple homes, and Marie Laure s house in Paris in search of the Sea of
Flames. His main struggle is knowing if the stone is a replica or real. He is putting a great amount
of trust in the people he has confided in, and he hopes that they have given

School Uniforms
School uniforms make things more complicated
Firstly, school is the place where all of us step in at a very tender age. In one word, life begins at
school. It s not just education but school gives us the platform to nurture our faith, emotions in
such an early stage of life. The importance of making friends, working as a team we learn all these
in school. And wearing the same dress definitely brings a sense of unity among students.
In every school there are students from different backgrounds but with the school uniform everyone
becomes one the only identity dominates at that moment is all them are representative of the same
school. This is a great feeling of togetherness. School uniforms flashes out most of the drops of

Cameras also will protect students by providing evidence if something unexpected occurs.
More and more schools are installing security cameras in halls, classrooms and buses.
Administrators say it helps protect students and staff, but some argue the practice is invasive. many
students around the world have been falsely accused of something they didn t do. All of these
problems can be eliminated with one little piece of technology hanging from the ceiling. That little
piece of technology is a surveillance camera which can be placed almost anywhere. Many schools
are determining whether or not to install security cameras in classrooms. Those who have, have
seen dramatic changes in teachers, students, and even parents. Cameras have many helpful factors.
For instance, cameras can be used to train future teachers, broadcast to students at home, and deal
with bullying. Having cameras in a classroom environment are beneficial for students, teachers,
parents, and schools because they hold teachers accountable, help students improve their behavior,
and evaluate teacher and student interactions.
Reconnaissance in schools has turned out to be more famous, for wellbeing reasons, as well as to
screen the classrooms and teacher. The primary issue with influencing the schools more to secure is
the methods by which to influence them more to secure without people feeling dismissed. A couple

Truth In The Film Big Fish
As one should understand, mean has the capability to be found in what one perceives as factual
as well as fiction. This becomes apparent when viewing the film Big Fish, which accurately goes
on to portray the connections between fiction, non fiction, and truth through the recounting of a
man s life story. Upon watching the film, one delves into the life story of Edward Bloom in both
its glorious fiction with bizarre and outlandish occurrences and it s boring mundane truth. As the
plot progresses one will be able to understand this divide between what is true and what never
happened, allowing for a thorough understanding of both the film s protagonist Edward Bloom
and his son. Edward Bloom tells of his life as a work of fiction, while his son... Show more content

Ono Seafood Manuscript Analysis
The picture I attached is from Ono Seafood located in town. It is a poke restaurant and it is very

would be locals and people who know what Ono means, but now it is so popular and people come
from all over the world to eat there! I was talking to the woman who works there and her parents

Hawaiian restaurants attempt to remain local by using pidgin and Hawaiian words but are
restricted to using just a few because they want to use well known terms, or easy to understand
words. I was in a Vietnamese restaurant today and they had a sign that said
Ono Pho meaning delicious pho! Ono is a common word here in Hawaii and can be found in
many different places and restaurants. People who speak pidgin also speak another language as
their main language. In opposite, creoles are the languages that came to be from the children of
pidgin speakers. As the children grow up, they develop the vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar
so that they can use it as their main language of communication. Pidgin is an important part of
Hawaiian culture and can be found all over the islands in signs, everyday talk and much more.

Pablo Picasso s Gruernica Essay examples
In 1937, Pablo Picasso depicts an epic event in history in his Guernica using visual symbolism,
line, space, light and color which advocates to the observer the truth behind the subject matter of
the artwork itself. The line used leads to specific images to tell the story; the space throughout the
work is filled with many jagged and sharp shapes with an odd use of positive and negative space.
The light and color illuminate the actual scene. Knowing and understanding how the artist uses
these three fundamental tools will guide us to the meaning and logic of the artwork.

Now combined with the images of the candle, the light fixture and the horse we gather that, by
definition, the horse is the most economically important domesticated animal and was diminished
due to mechanization. The candle next to the light shows us a change in technology, advocating
the death of the horse with a spear in the side, as the destruction of Spain s cultural origins.
Finally we see the horse leading us back to the bull where between both heads we see the spirit
flying away alerting us that soul and spirit is being ripped away, that death is coming no matter if
it is in a bull fight or a battle, everything that lives will die.
Picasso s use of space in this masterpiece leads to similar conclusions to pain, suffering and the
eventual death of an ancient city or any living thing. This piece is extremely vivid and the use
of space used is probably breaking all the rules of art, but if we think about what we are actually
seeing we are not really looking at just art, we are looking at inhumane events in the world and it
almost holds an obligation to exploit the boundaries of art to get the desired effect which the artist
has done intentionally. Most art works contains non busy and busy areas which are proportional to
one another but in life we know that the main focus in the real world is all the chaos and that there
is no balance just that tunnel vision effect of the awe stricken horror. Even in the use of light and
color Picasso conveys the

Capitalism And Consumerism
Some would say that the advertisers are responsible for building the hype and the consumer is just
responding to a once in a lifetime deal (that happens every year). Some have even gone as far as
blaming capitalism and the manner in which it functions within our society. If you recall though,
James Twitchell blames the consumer and not these other outlets. Some might blame this on
capitalism, but one can love the freedom and innovation of capitalism and hate the materialism of
consumerism... However this isn t because capitalism promotes consumerism. Capitalism is just
an economic system an imperfect one that that reflects the values we put into it, so if we feed it
consumerism, that s what we ll get. We, the consumers, are guilty of turning Thanksgiving into a
consumerist holiday (Daniel). This isn t to say that everyone that participates in Black Thursday
or Friday is guilty of consumerism, maybe they don t have a family to spend the holiday with or
maybe shopping with family is there means of spending quality time together. The important thing
is that we are all consumers in this society and we must be aware of the production companies
ability to trigger that within our brains the need to buy more and more things we don t necessarily
need and sometimes even want. Playing the victim in all of this proves that you are aware of the
tactics used to get you to use your purchasing power and inturn you are aware of your own ability

Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time in history that our country was brought to the edge of financial
and emotional despair. There were many events that led to the great Depression, what were at the
important factors that brought the Depression to an end? A man by the name of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt was pivotal in bringing the nation a mindset of hope, his New Dealbrought about change
and the beginning of World War II all contributed to ending the Great Depression.
The collapse of the Stock Market in October 1929 began when 16,410,030 shares of stock were
sold off in a single day and the market lost $14 billion in value, nearly five times more than the
annual budget of the United States, capping off a week in which the market lost 39.6% of its value
between October 24th and October 29th. Many economists simply considered this part of the
normal business cycle and believed that intervening to stop or reverse it would cause even greater
problems. By July 8, 1932, when the market finally hit its bottom, it had lost a stunning 89% of its
pre crash October 23, 1929 value. ( )
Roosevelt is revered as one of the greatest men of the 20th century much because of his desire and
dedication to pulling the nation out of depression. Roosevelt won 42 of the 48 states and became
President in March 1933. In his inaugural address, Roosevelt stated the now famous line, The only

Sp In Sports Psychology
The delivery method in which a sports psychologist professional uses can be a determining
factor on the success and the ability to effectively communicate with the client. Depending on
what study is being reviewed, the ways that a SPP delivers their service to their clients can vary.
As it was talked about in this week s discussions, SPP s have many different standards for which
they have to follow in order to practice (Gordin, 2007). The way that the individual conducts
business can be different, as well depending on the demographics. For example, a SPP who is
working with a hockey player may have a slight different approach when dealing with a minor
league baseball player. The demographics of the sport and the environment the team or athlete...

the SPP, but along with the confidentiality side of things, they can t always know everything. The
SPP will need to work with the staff in order to establish their roles and expectations (Portenga et

management or staff. This way there is less of a chance that questions or arguments will arise at a
later point and time. Also, by having an open and communicating environment, it will build trust

Australian Identity And Ideal
From a Tarzan like, pun making simpleton to a vigilante fighting for justice in the outback of a
dystopian Australia, we really have it all when it comes to our vast selection of native films.
Although quite diverse in plot, setting and characters they all broadcast the concept of Australian
identity and ideals to the world. There are many concepts that reflect the typical Australian identity
such as mateship, larrikinism and the Aussie battler and it is more important know than ever to
celebrate what it means to be Australian.
One important aspect of Australian identity is the history and treatment of aboriginal people. The

Effective And Rational Priority Setting Of Health...
Baltussen et al. (2006, 2010) and Peacock et al. (2009) suggested that MCDA can make a difference
in making better and more transparent decision in the setting priorities in health. Baltussen et al.
(2006) argued that priority setting in health intervention was often ad hoc and decisions were not
optimally made. Instead they suggested implementing MCDA into health intervention decision
making since there are many criterias to be considered in the priority setting of health intervention.
They illustrated the comparison between ad hoc priority setting and rational priority setting in the
following figure. Peacock et al. (2009) stated that MCDA is important because the degree of
conflict between criteria, or conflict between different stakeholders regarding the importance of
different criteria, is such that intuitive decision making is unsatisfactory (p. 127). However, they
suggested using MCDA in health care planning for policy makers, they stated that they did not
suggest abandoning the current tools that policy makers used to make decision. Therefore, in this
review, I have also included an example from priority setting in health interventions without MCDA
as well. Priority setting in health interventions without an application of MCDA GonzГЎlez Pier et

A Project On The Project Life Cycle
Discussion Board Forum 3 Sana Gilani Liberty University BUSI 650 April 23, 2016 The Project
Life Cycle Explanation A project is a transitory effort attempted to develop an exceptional
merchandize or service. Since all projects are distinctive in nature and include a specific level of
ambiguity, they are distributed into particular stages that improve and support overall
management and control. According to Hormozi, McMinn, and Nzeogwu (2000), every
projects have a life cycle and they are born from an idea, develop into a finished product or
service, and then terminate (p.45). The stages or phases of project life cycles may vary
depending on management strategy, industry, application/ methodology being used for a
particular project. However, in general the project life cycle stages include: (1) Initializing, (2)
planning, (3) execution, (4) controlling, and (5) closing or termination. Meredith and Shafer
(2013) explained stretched S and exponential life cycle within the text book. In the stretched S
life cycle, the progress is slow in the initial phase but it takes speed during the implementing
phase and during the closing stage, as per Meredith and Shafer (2013), the more difficult tasks
that were postponed earlier must now be completed, yet people are being drawn off the project and
activity is winding down, so the end keeps slipping out of reach (p. 211). Whereas, in the
exponential life cycle, there is continuous activity on numerous aspects of

A Sociological View of Rastafarianism
Organized religion is a duality between the religion and the church which represents it. Sometimes
the representation of the religion is marred and flawed to those who view it because of the
bureaucracy contained within. Unknown to those who gaze upon the dissolved morals and values
of what is perceived to be the contradiction known as modern religion, it was never intended to be
this way. Most religions started off as a sect, a minor detail on the fringes of the society it never
wanted to represent. Rastfarianism is such a sect. The differences between Rastafarianism and a
normal mainstream religion are numberless, including: no set membership, no authoritative leader,
no offices of authority, no trained clergy and no involvement with... Show more content on

Rastafarianism was more than a religion to the people of Jamaica, it was a hope. It was their
escape from the the rational everyday world. This theodicy of suffering, in which the
underprivileged and underrepresented Jamaicans believed, was compensation for the
deplorable state in which they found themselves. The Rastafarian way of living and their
everyday activities began as a deviant social behavior, but rather was a routinization of the
masses into one cohesive unit, following the same general creed under different principles. This
point can be seen most specifically in the modern Rastafarian hairstyles. In traditional
Rastafarianism most Rastas do not cut their hair but allow it to grow naturally long matted
strands or locks. These locks are in accordance with the Leviticus 21:5: They shall not make
baldness upon their head (Johnson Hill 25). But in today s Rastafarianism, their are men who
will not grow facial hair or locks in accordance to their position in the work place and in society,
but still believe in the faith of and consider themselves a part of the Rastafarian religion. This
process of electing points on a subject in which a followers ideas converge with is called elective

Stereotypes In The Military
It is clear that in today s society there is still a growing controversy surrounding equality between
gender, specifically women in the military. Jobs for women in the military were not common in the
late 20th century, with only 67% of military positions open to women. In 2014, those percentages
increased dramatically, with about 95% militarypositions open to women. The idea of women
being exposed to violence was a concern to the public. The media have often shown violence
against women, particularly rape and abuse, making women appear to be victims. It is not that the
general public is shocked about women wanting to fight in the front lines, people feel strained

s been 13 years since the United States went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan and there have been
more than 200,000 women who had actively served in the wars. Although there are no laws barring
women from combat, keeping female service members away from the front lines have always
been a military policy. Since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, many women have served

pressing the military to acknowledge. The decision to lift the ban on women in the battlefield will

Analysis Of Augustine s The Confessions
Monnica With thirteen books making up the Confessions, it is hard to say what had played the
most important role in Augustine s life. Obviously, a crucial point in the story was Augustine s
conversion or return to Christianity. Readers see this as something Augustine was struggled with,
from stealing fruit to joining the Manicheans. Through all of his struggles about his faith, his
mother Monnica was devoted to his conversion. In this brief paper, I will discuss who Monnica
was, how she played a role in her son s conversion, and how she continues to influences others
through the Confessions. Born in 331 CE, Monnica came from a Catholic family from Thagaste.
When Monnica reached marriageable age she was married to Patricius, a Roman Pagan. While
Patricius had many faults, such as being hot tempered and being unfaithful to his wife, Monnica
always turned to Godto show he husband mercy (C. 9.9.19). From what we know, Monnica was
mother to many children. We can account for at least 3, Augustine, a brother, and a sister. While
the children grew up in a mixed religious household, Monnica was persistent on her children
receiving a Christian education. At one point during Confessions, Augustine writes my tender little
heart had drunk in that name, the name of my Savior and your Son, with my mother s milk, and in
my deepest heart I still held on to it (C. 3.4.8). Augustine grew up knowing the God of his mother,
that much is obvious when Augustine grew ill as a child. Plagued

Since normal people can t be expected to understand every point of view, every law, and every
aspect to a decision that needs to be made, they trust a group of people to make the decisions for
them. This, in small scale, is how our government works. Normal people and our society, has
realized that they can t make these decisions for the community because they can t understand
everything in play. To answer to this challenge, they put their trust into a system of people, the
government, to know the required information to make the decisions that have to be made to
keep the community together. This meeting, and my own reflection on its debates, made me
realize that everyone can criticize the government for the decisions they make, good or bad, but
in the end, that normal people simply can t understand every card in play in the society game.
Society is made up of everyone, not just a single group of people with a set group of problems
and influences. All must be accounted for when a decision is being made, or problems will arise.
The meeting made me realize that society, good or bad and however I personally, or anyone, feels

The Spanish Reconquista and the formation of Spanish national identity
During the times the Iberian Peninsula was ruled by the Muslims and was called Al Andalus,
Christians, Jews and Muslims coexisted in harmony in the Caliphates. However, the understanding
of Spain as it is understood today did not exist. It was because of the Christianisation of the
peninsula and the Reconquista that Iberia was reimagined as something more similar to what we
understand today as Spain and Portugal. In this essay I intend to explain how this happened, which

Whether this battle is real or an invention from some scribe in the eleventh or twelfth Century is
uncertain, but it is doubtfully key to the understanding of the cult to the saint, since the legend
tells that he appeared to King Ramiro I on a dream promising his victory over the Moors, and
even after being severely injured in a previous battle by the enemy army, they took victory over
their foes . One of the biggest collections of iconography is in the Santiago de Compostela
cathedral, where a large collection of pictures and sculptures dress the building with his image .
Perhaps the most recognizable figure of the whole Reconquista is El Cid Campeador, a
Castilian nobleman who regained the city of Valencia in 1094. Almost everything we know
about him comes from texts dating over a century and a half after his death, so there has been
speculation about if he was indeed a real man or just a legend, although this seems to be
completely speculated since there is proof enough to say with almost all certainty that he indeed
existed . He gained the city of Valencia in 1409, only to be lost again three years after his death .
Still, his image was still very present and magnified in the subsequent years, inspiring all kinds of
art and literature, such as the very significant Cantar del Myo Г‡yd, the oldest preserved epic
poem, which tells his story.
Despite being loss after his death, the city of Valencia was won again by Jaume I El Conqueridor

Ethical Framework In Teleological Framework
A case study was done on the closing of a textile manufacturing company in North Carolina, which
decided to relocate the business to another country. The decision to transfer was based on the fact
that the company would generate more revenue at a lower cost. However, the proponents of such a
move were based on an ethical teleological framework decision. However, an ethical leader has
certain qualities that are needed to build trust and develop sustainable relationships amongst
numerous stakeholders (Eisenbeils Brodbeck, 2014). According to the reading in Unit V, the
proponents and decision to move the textile company to Southeast Asia are based on the
teleological framework.
Also, to understand why this move is considered to be ethical, we must look at the meaning of
teleological framework. Teleological is based on one s consequences of action; nevertheless, these
results of interests are those that affect the individuals directly. Additionally, teleological ethics
determines the value of a moral action or a moral life result from that action or life; consequently,
philosophies within teleological ethics are also known as consequentialist ethical theories (Kocyigit
Karadag, 2016). Further, the leader is also in favor of utilitarianism, whereas they can find
themselves confronting undecidable dilemmas for which making a particular decision becomes
almost random (Farmer, 2015). Although, moving to Southeast Asia can be seen as a good and
assessable magnitude,

Informative Impacts Of School Shootings
School Shootings: Informative Essay There have been 220 shootings on school campuses in the
U.S. since 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown,
Conn. on Dec. 14, according to Everytown For Gun Safety, an advocacy group. (Krishnakumar,
Priya , and Len Degroot) Many people do not feel safe attending or sending their child to a
public school where they are possibly subject to a shooting. School shootings were first initially
brought to the attention of the public in 1999, Columbine was one of the first school massacres
that was recognized nationwide. Because of the magnitude of the shooting there is an abundance
of information online bearing information of the event. First off, the shooters had identified
specific targets, athletes, minorities and Christians. The two shooters had planned the firing for
over a year and thought out their whole strategy. ( Columbine High School shootings. ) There
was no plan in place to react to this shooting, because nothing like it had ever happened before.
Although if there was, we may not hear about Columbine to the degree we do today. Columbine
still is the most well known shooting and the horrific impact is still notable today across the
United States. In the eighteen years since Columbine in 1999 there have been hundreds of school
shootings, ranging from grade schools to college universities. Obviously, school shootings are a
big problem in the United States and hopefully in time with the proper precautions taken they will
eventually be eliminated forever. The warning signs are there however, to the average joe picking
up on these signals is not as easy as it may seem. Some red flags that can be noticed according to
School Shooters: The Warning Signs are, talk with their peers, their school assignments, their online
behavior, and/or their interactions with their parents. (Langman) Langman writes The most obvious
warning signs often are ignored because people simply do not take them seriously. In 1997 in West

Essay on Edna’s Suicide in The Awakening
The Awakening by Kate Chopin ends with the death of the main character, Edna Pontellier.
Stripping off her clothes, she swims out to sea until her arms can no longer support her, and she
drowns. It was not necessarily a suicide, neither was it necessarily the best option for escaping her
problems. We are told that she walks down to the beach rather mechanically, (Chopin 108) and that
she doesn t think about much, other than the heat of the sun. This doesn t seem terribly interesting
until we read that the reason she isn t thinking is because she had, done all the thinking which was
necessary after Robert went away, when she lay awake upon the sofa till morning. (Chopin 108)
This means that she has already planned exactly what she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Clearly, she feels that drowning herself in the sea is the best way that she can elude her children.
After walking into the sea, she begins to swim. There are several instances where we are told that
she grows progressively more tired. Since she has thought so much about this swim, she should
have known to turn back at the first sign of exhaustion. But she doesn t. She continues on to her
ultimate death, apparently understanding and willing. Comparatively, there seems very little
evidence to say that it was not suicide. A large part of any argument for just death stems from her
impulsiveness, and that she could ve been struck with the urge to swim very far out without
thinking of the consequences. This argument is not terribly valid since we are told that she has, in
fact, thought about her trip to the beach quite a lot. She also goes on and on...thinking it [the sea]
had no beginning and no end, (Chopin 109) and yet still decides to continue swimming. Her
thoughts right before her death offer a plausible, non suicidal ending. She seems to understand that
her life didn t have to end now, that perhaps Dr. Mandelet would have understood (Chopin 109) if
only she had the strength to swim back. But she didn t have the strength, so she died. Even though

The theories of Jacques Lacan give explanation and intention to the narrator s actions throughout the
novel Surfacing . Although Margaret Atwood may not have had any knowledge of the French
psychoanalyst s philosophies, I feel that both were making inferences on behavior and psychology
and that the two undeniably synchronize with each other. I will first identify the complex
philosophies of JacquesLacan and then demonstrate how the narrator falls outside of Lacan s view

This is the state to which the narrator wants to return. She is deeply disturbed by the identity that
has befallen her. I use the word befallen because it is this disparity, of having needs and no way to
express or fulfill them, that the narrator wants to escape from and return to the original state of
nature . We must understand the narrator s position in society in order to understand why she wants
to return to the REAL.
The second phase, the Imaginary, is where our sense of self is formed. It must be noted that the
process of forming a self is a settlement for having left the REAL and a labor to regain that
oneness, The fiction of the stable, whole, unified self that we see in the mirror becomes a
compensation for having lost the original oneness with the mother s body. In short, according to
Lacan, we lose our unity with the mother s body, the state of quot;nature, quot; in order to enter
culture, but we protect ourselves from the knowledge of that loss by misperceiving ourselves as
not lacking anything as being complete unto ourselves. (Klages, 2). The narrator early on in life

Theme Of Social Status In Wuthering Heights
Since the beginning of civilization, one s wealth, and status were determining factors that
influenced their place in a stratified society. In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, the author
embodied the realities of England s class system during the Victorian Era. During this Era, people
were born into a class and stayed there. This was essentially captured by the idea that social
mobility was rare and limited. Bronte uses characters such as Catherine, Heathcliff and Edgar as
well as the second generation as a tool to emphasize the differences in class, and how it ultimately
impacted the fate of the characters.Through the use of symbolism and juxtaposition, Bronte
exemplifies that the potency of love and relationships cannot outweigh the necessity social status.
While many will argue the impracticality of social status being the determining factor of one s way
of life, this is most notably seen through Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine Earnshaw: A woman
confused about her own identity and her love, ultimately led her to choose status and power over
love. In fact, since the commencement of Catherine s story, the readers are able to see that her
character transforms from being high spirited and rebellious into a proper girl. This notion of a
proper girl, is derived from the standards that society sets. There is a particular way in which one
acts, due to its class or status. For instance, Catherine exhibits this in Chapter 9, when she informs

Becoming A Television Journalist For A Local News Station
I aspire to become a broadcast journalist for a local news station, an author, and an editor. I plan
to confer the most interesting stories out to the world. I also plan to publish my novel that I am
currently working on along with other fiction stories. Although it is not definite how my journey
will begin and end, I do have a certain path I plan to proceed. First, I want to finish my

My goal is not easy and it also is not cheap. Six years of college for me is not free. During college

Imperialism In The Belgian Congo
Although in some imperialism improved the lives of the native people in the Belgian Congo by
providing modern infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, to a great extent imperialism made
life worse because of its effect on nationalism and traditions as well as, the physical and emotional
strain it inflicted in the Belgian Congo.
However, imperialism helped the native Congolians by providing modern forms of infrastructure.
Before the discovery of the African Congo, life in Africawas subpar. Lifespans were much shorter,
literacy and research were foreign concepts, and transportation was a mere fantasy. Infrastructure
provided the native Congolians with schools, hospitals, and railroads, giving them improved

I Am No Taller Than Three Feet
I stand no taller than three feet, even with the monster sized boots hiding my feet from the frigid
air on the lake. The bright orange hat falls over my eyes as I struggle to keep up with my dad. I
slip a bit on the ice and let out a shrill scream before getting ready to hit the ground, but I don t
feel any pain. I open my eyes to see that my superhero had swooped me up and saved the day. I
wrap my slender arms around his neck, hugging him. He carries me the rest of the way to the
small lakeside restaurant. When he sets me down on the ground again, my boots make a loud
bang on the wooden floor. A few heads turn towards us. One specific person that I notice is an old
man who s grey hair hangs a bit too long. His scruffy looking beard reminds me of my grandfather.
I waddle after my dad to the tall stools by the counter. I try to climb up by myself but I am much
too short. Dad picks me up again and sets me on the seat. He helps me unzip my jacket so that I
don t get too hot in the heated room. I look over at my dad and smile. It is the first time that we get
to go ice fishing for what seems like years but it s really only been about two weeks. He smiles
back as a waiter comes up to us. My dad asks if I d rather drink hot cocoa or chocolate milk. Hot
cocoa please, Dad. He orders for me and the waiter leaves to get it.
Do you want a burger, mac n cheese, or chicken strips, Princess? I smile and think about it for a
little bit.
Chicken strips sound yummy! The old man

The Pros And Cons Of Tort Law
Within Tort Law it has been acclaimed by most, that UK courts are not in favour of negligent
claims brought against the police force. There is no doubt that a police officer owes a duty to
protect the public However, in many regards the police aren t found to be guilty to owe any such
duty. The Tort of negligenceproclaims that one must be owed a duty of care to claim, otherwise
negligence caused to the claimant due to the conduct of the defendant, is held without regard. As
stated in the PoliceAct 1964 The chief officer of police for any police area shall be liable in respect
of torts committed by constables under his direction
It was firstly suggested that the courts show willingness to invoke public policy principles of
immunity where certain groups of defendants were sued in negligence , to which the case facts in
Hill v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [1988] will shine light on. Moreover, one may
suggest that the emergency services should be free to carry out their line of work without the
conscious threat of liability. If one was to act in such a way as that which threatened overriding
liability, it is questionable as to whether an officer would act in a defensive state of mind, as stated
by Lord Keith in Hill .
It may well be considered that the courts specifically deny claims against the emergency services,
invoking public policy, as observed in Capital and Countries Bank plc v Hampshire CC [1997]
and John Munroe Ltd v London Fire and Civil Defence Authority Others [1997] . The fire
brigade, like the police force are too exempt on the grounds of no duty is owed to an individual if
an emergency call is not responded to.
Policy is essentially concerned with the notion of Duty of care and maybe considered the fourth
element required for a negligence claim, primarily used to disregard claims against the police.
The principles of duty of care are centred around the cases of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932) , Hill
and Caparo Industries PLC v Dickman [1990] .
The case of Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] has been instrumental to the foundations of Tort Law,
following the notion that since this case negligence has rapidly developed into the cornerstone of
our system for compensating

get through this hardworking farmer called Elisa Allen for his personal benefits. The story revolves

with people. The tinker really was since he was very manipulating and convincing. The tinker
started off his conversation with her nicely until she began to be hard to convince. This is where
his dishonesty becomes apparent since he starts to lie and make up excuses. He starts talking
about how people are waiting for him and that he won t be having anything to eat tonight. He s a
salesman so he has to attract his customer toward his service. It s perfectly normal, but this is
where everything changes. He starts talking about her chrysanthemums. He quickly changes the
subject. What s them plants? Ma am? He s smart since he s still trying to get her to pay to his
services so he talks about her flowers. The conversation goes well and this is where he finally
shows his true colors. In one of the dialogue, the tinker has to bite his tongue just to approach
Elisa. They smell kind of nasty till you get used to them he said but quickly had changed his
tone when she said it wasn t nasty at all by saying I like the smell myself You can see how the
tinker really is trying to stay on her good side. He continues to flirt and mingle with her for quite
some time. He finally lies to her by saying there is a lady with a beautiful garden but has no
chrysanthemums and that she asked him to get him some seeds if he ever could. Elisa fell for
his bait and his plan. The tinker was very carefully manipulating her from the start. From being a
nice man to someone sociable in minutes of talking with her, she really had no idea what he was
trying to do. As the lies continued, Elisa eventually fell for his plan and gave him some work, but
she didn t know what he would do next. The tinker quickly gets caught up

Rhetorical Analysis Of States By Edward Said
Edward Said s States features an insightful, in depth analysis of Orientalism as it applies to
Palestinians and Israelis. He begins with a description of Palestine and the Palestinian condition
using photographs to demonstrate a more humanized perspective of these transient people. Said
reflects on his childhood in Palestine and draws from personal experience to paint a picture of a
people without a home, or to be more accurate, people without an identity. A rhetorical analysis
reveals the levels to which Said s persuasion actually manages to persuade the audience. Said s
use of pathos is strong and well developed due to his use of anecdotal evidence and his insistence
on humanizing the issue, while his ethos is considerably boosted by his personal experiences in
Palestine, with Israelis, and his comprehensive study of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of his standing in the academic world and his past publications on the same subject matter such as
Orientalism , it can be assumed that his ideas will be at least received, if not necessarily accepted.
Said also builds his connection with the audience by recounting tales from his youth and describing
situations similar to what would be experienced in a Western civilization such as celebrations.
These little things build bridges from one side of common thought to another, chipping away at the

  • 2. Internalized Oppression And Violence Against Hagar By... Liberationist, feminist, and womanist theologies aims and goals are not simply to understand biblical texts and traditions in light of their historical contexts, but to highlight the structures of power that marginalize and suppress subjects; they also emphasize the effects of these structures on the lives of the dominated persons. Brazilian Paulo Freire asserts that the oppressed are manifestations of dehumanization and internalizes their oppression. Consequently, they are divided in and among themselves. This paper will address the concerns of genderoppression, internalized oppression and the subjugation, exploitation, and violence against Hagar. • 3. Knight s Role In Warfare During The Middle Ages A knight s role and the impact heavy cavalry had on warfare have greatly varied throughout the period of the Middle Ages. Although knight s dominated the battlefield and had a huge cultural value in society you cannot ignore the impact that technology has had on their role. These technological advances such as the longbow, the introduction of light cavalry and developments such as gunpowder and artillery, the tactical developments such as sieges and the general organisation surrounding warfare resulted in knights declining in social value, status and affectability as well as a more dramatic yet gradual metamorphosis into the heavily armoured tank divisions in today s modern armies. It has always been a greatly contested debate as to when the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is demonstrated mainly by the speed and manoeuvrability riding on horseback provided. Speed could be converted into shock as the enemy if unaware of a knight s potential power ground could be covered quickly before the enemy had a chance to provide a defence mechanism and would have no option to surrender. This however was only evident in the early Middle Ages, showing that heavy cavalry would not be the most dominant force throughout the entirety of the Middle Ages. However this speed and manoeuvrability did not always result in the knight being the dominant figure. The knight may have been dominant in the West where the terrain was favourable and the heat moderate but when traveling to Jerusalem for the crusades they were less well suited to endurance in a hot climate and clumsy and unmanoeuvrable making them ineffective and vulnerable to the enemy. This shows how even though they may dominant warfare in Western Europe they were too heavy to cover ground effectively and not as moveable as the lighter eastern cavalry, which weighed approximately 700 to 900lbs to the Western 1,200 to ... • 4. Essay on Simon vs. Roger in Lord of the Flies In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Simon represents the innate morality of humans, acting as a Christ like figure, while Roger embodies the all present cruelty and inherent sadism of individuals. Throughout the novel, Simon remains unchanged in terms of morality, as others slowly turn to savagery and hunting, as can be seen when Jack s group become, demoniac figures with faces of white and red and green. Instead Simon finds a quiet spot in a little cabin screened off from the open space by a few leaves. By holding his breath, he [cocks] a critical ear at the sounds of the island, using his secret cabin to meditate. Coupled with his deep connection to nature, Simon is revealed to be a Christ figure. When left alone with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones, only to remain, watching the littluns. Maurice, however, still felt the unease of wrongdoing. Jack s only fault was yearning for power, which corrupts those who wield it. Roger is corrupted and malevolent without ever thirsting for this power, and is therefore more evil than Jack. Roger keeps to himself, much like Simon, and remains consistently evil throughout the novel. Near the beginning, he picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry threw it to miss, held back by the taboo of the old life. Later, he did not miss and with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever, releasing a huge boulder and killing Piggy. Under the weight of the boulder, the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. The main symbol for the democracy, equality and justice was indirectly destroyed by Roger. To him, Ralph was a shock of hair and Piggy a bag of fat, thus dehumanizing and objectifying them. When Sam and Eric were cornered by Jack s group of savages, Roger demonstrates his enjoyment for hurting others by [advancing] upon them as one wielding a nameless authority. It was not for the sake of supremacy or control, but for unbridled sadistic pleasure. When Ralph finds Sam and Eric, they say that Roger is a terror . Based on the availability of stock price data for measuring the dependent variable, we focused on Fortune 1000 MNEs since 1990, which narrowed down the possible incidents from 141,967 in the GTD to 158 terrorist incidents, representing 37 different MNEs. First, Firm Performance Resilience is the dependent variable. Consistent with the Gittell et al. (2006) study of the airline industry after 9/11, we measure resilience as the number of days it takes for a firm s stock price to rebound to the price on the trading day prior to the terrorist attack. The idea here is that the shock of a terrorist attack would drive the stock price down, but that more resilient firms would bounce back faster because the more resilient firms have pre established, effective processes and plans to cope with the impacts of such an attack. • 11. All The Light We Cannot See Quotes I m only trying to make sense of this war inside my head. This quote relates to the characters in All The Light We Cannot See because everyone is battling with love, truth, or identity while battling the war in Europe. Marie Laure is living in Saint Malo with her crazy great uncle while the war is raging on outside the city. Werner was accepted into the Hitler Youth School and was sent out into the war to track resistance radio signals. Sergeant von Rumpel is also on the search for the Sea of Flames diamonds, and what Marie Laure doesn t know about her father can greatly hurt her. In this novel, three of the characters are searchingfor either truth, love, or identity. Knowing the difference between the truth and lies is a very common theme in All The Light We Cannot See. Many characters are lied to by their loved ones and about things that can affect them greatly, and von Rumpel wants to know the truth about the location about the Sea of Flames. Sergeant von Rumpel is in dire need of the Sea of Flames diamond, so he can showcase it in his new museum. He will do whatever is needed to locate the diamond among the vastness of Europe and the war. Before Paris was invaded, the Museum of Natural History made three replicas of the diamond and gave the replicas and the real diamond to four trustworthy employees. The catch: none of them knew if they had a replica of the real diamond. Von Rumpel was in Paris and found the shop of Dupont, which the owner later admitted to making replicas and dispersing them in many locations. Once von Rumpel found out the locations, he was even more determined to find all four diamonds . Especially because he recently found out that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, and the stone is known to help a person live forever. He has visited many places in search for the replicas or the diamond: Three replicas. Plus the real stone. Somewhere on this planet among its sextillion grains of sand. Von Rumpel has visited the museum, a jeweler, multiple homes, and Marie Laure s house in Paris in search of the Sea of Flames. His main struggle is knowing if the stone is a replica or real. He is putting a great amount of trust in the people he has confided in, and he hopes that they have given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pablo Picasso s Gruernica Essay examples In 1937, Pablo Picasso depicts an epic event in history in his Guernica using visual symbolism, line, space, light and color which advocates to the observer the truth behind the subject matter of the artwork itself. The line used leads to specific images to tell the story; the space throughout the work is filled with many jagged and sharp shapes with an odd use of positive and negative space. The light and color illuminate the actual scene. Knowing and understanding how the artist uses these three fundamental tools will guide us to the meaning and logic of the artwork. Finally we see the horse leading us back to the bull where between both heads we see the spirit flying away alerting us that soul and spirit is being ripped away, that death is coming no matter if it is in a bull fight or a battle, everything that lives will die. Picasso s use of space in this masterpiece leads to similar conclusions to pain, suffering and the eventual death of an ancient city or any living thing. This piece is extremely vivid and the use of space used is probably breaking all the rules of art, but if we think about what we are actually seeing we are not really looking at just art, we are looking at inhumane events in the world and it almost holds an obligation to exploit the boundaries of art to get the desired effect which the artist has done intentionally. (2009) suggested that MCDA can make a difference in making better and more transparent decision in the setting priorities in health. Baltussen et al. (2006) argued that priority setting in health intervention was often ad hoc and decisions were not optimally made. Instead they suggested implementing MCDA into health intervention decision making since there are many criterias to be considered in the priority setting of health intervention. They illustrated the comparison between ad hoc priority setting and rational priority setting in the following figure. Peacock et al. (2009) stated that MCDA is important because the degree of conflict between criteria, or conflict between different stakeholders regarding the importance of different criteria, is such that intuitive decision making is unsatisfactory (p. 127). However, they suggested using MCDA in health care planning for policy makers, they stated that they did not suggest abandoning the current tools that policy makers used to make decision. Since all projects are distinctive in nature and include a specific level of ambiguity, they are distributed into particular stages that improve and support overall management and control. According to Hormozi, McMinn, and Nzeogwu (2000), every projects have a life cycle and they are born from an idea, develop into a finished product or service, and then terminate (p.45). The stages or phases of project life cycles may vary depending on management strategy, industry, application/ methodology being used for a particular project. However, in general the project life cycle stages include: (1) Initializing, (2) planning, (3) execution, (4) controlling, and (5) closing or termination. Meredith and Shafer (2013) explained stretched S and exponential life cycle within the text book. In the stretched S life cycle, the progress is slow in the initial phase but it takes speed during the implementing phase and during the closing stage, as per Meredith and Shafer (2013), the more difficult tasks that were postponed earlier must now be completed, yet people are being drawn off the project and activity is winding down, so the end keeps slipping out of reach (p. 211). Through all of his struggles about his faith, his mother Monnica was devoted to his conversion. In this brief paper, I will discuss who Monnica was, how she played a role in her son s conversion, and how she continues to influences others through the Confessions. Born in 331 CE, Monnica came from a Catholic family from Thagaste. When Monnica reached marriageable age she was married to Patricius, a Roman Pagan. To answer to this challenge, they put their trust into a system of people, the government, to know the required information to make the decisions that have to be made to keep the community together. This meeting, and my own reflection on its debates, made me realize that everyone can criticize the government for the decisions they make, good or bad, but in the end, that normal people simply can t understand every card in play in the society game. Society is made up of everyone, not just a single group of people with a set group of problems and influences. All must be accounted for when a decision is being made, or problems will arise. The meeting made me realize that society, good or bad and however I personally, or anyone, feels about it, has so much to account for when they work that error has to be expected. This what I drew from my time in that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Candidate Number: GDYL5 Total amount of words: 1675 ELCS6015 The Middle Ages And the Formation Of European Cultures The Spanish Reconquista and the formation of Spanish national identity During the times the Iberian Peninsula was ruled by the Muslims and was called Al Andalus, Christians, Jews and Muslims coexisted in harmony in the Caliphates. However, the understanding of Spain as it is understood today did not exist. It was because of the Christianisation of the peninsula and the Reconquista that Iberia was reimagined as something more similar to what we understand today as Spain and Portugal. Whether this battle is real or an invention from some scribe in the eleventh or twelfth Century is uncertain, but it is doubtfully key to the understanding of the cult to the saint, since the legend tells that he appeared to King Ramiro I on a dream promising his victory over the Moors, and even after being severely injured in a previous battle by the enemy army, they took victory over their foes . One of the biggest collections of iconography is in the Santiago de Compostela cathedral, where a large collection of pictures and sculptures dress the building with his image . Perhaps the most recognizable figure of the whole Reconquista is El Cid Campeador, a Castilian nobleman who regained the city of Valencia in 1094. Almost everything we know about him comes from texts dating over a century and a half after his death, so there has been speculation about if he was indeed a real man or just a legend, although this seems to be completely speculated since there is proof enough to say with almost all certainty that he indeed existed . He gained the city of Valencia in 1409, only to be lost again three years after his death . Still, his image was still very present and magnified in the subsequent years, inspiring all kinds of art and literature, such as the very significant Cantar del Myo Г‡yd, the oldest preserved epic poem, which tells his story. • 33. Ethical Framework In Teleological Framework A case study was done on the closing of a textile manufacturing company in North Carolina, which decided to relocate the business to another country. The decision to transfer was based on the fact that the company would generate more revenue at a lower cost. However, the proponents of such a move were based on an ethical teleological framework decision. However, an ethical leader has certain qualities that are needed to build trust and develop sustainable relationships amongst numerous stakeholders (Eisenbeils Brodbeck, 2014). According to the reading in Unit V, the proponents and decision to move the textile company to Southeast Asia are based on the teleological framework. Also, to understand why this move is considered to be ethical, we must look at the meaning of teleological framework. Teleological is based on one s consequences of action; nevertheless, these results of interests are those that affect the individuals directly. Additionally, teleological ethics determines the value of a moral action or a moral life result from that action or life; consequently, philosophies within teleological ethics are also known as consequentialist ethical theories (Kocyigit Karadag, 2016). Further, the leader is also in favor of utilitarianism, whereas they can find themselves confronting undecidable dilemmas for which making a particular decision becomes almost random (Farmer, 2015). • 34. Informative Impacts Of School Shootings School Shootings: Informative Essay There have been 220 shootings on school campuses in the U.S. since 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Dec. 14, according to Everytown For Gun Safety, an advocacy group. (Krishnakumar, Priya , and Len Degroot) Many people do not feel safe attending or sending their child to a public school where they are possibly subject to a shooting. School shootings were first initially brought to the attention of the public in 1999, Columbine was one of the first school massacres that was recognized nationwide. Because of the magnitude of the shooting there is an abundance of information online bearing information of the event. First off, the shooters had identified specific targets, athletes, minorities and Christians. The two shooters had planned the firing for over a year and thought out their whole strategy. ( Columbine High School shootings. ) There was no plan in place to react to this shooting, because nothing like it had ever happened before. Although if there was, we may not hear about Columbine to the degree we do today. Columbine still is the most well known shooting and the horrific impact is still notable today across the United States. In the eighteen years since Columbine in 1999 there have been hundreds of school shootings, ranging from grade schools to college universities. Obviously, school shootings are a big problem in the United States and hopefully in time with the proper precautions taken they will eventually be eliminated forever. The warning signs are there however, to the average joe picking up on these signals is not as easy as it may seem. Some red flags that can be noticed according to School Shooters: The Warning Signs are, talk with their peers, their school assignments, their online behavior, and/or their interactions with their parents. (Langman) Langman writes The most obvious warning signs often are ignored because people simply do not take them seriously. • 35. Essay on Edna’s Suicide in The Awakening The Awakening by Kate Chopin ends with the death of the main character, Edna Pontellier. Stripping off her clothes, she swims out to sea until her arms can no longer support her, and she drowns. It was not necessarily a suicide, neither was it necessarily the best option for escaping her problems. We are told that she walks down to the beach rather mechanically, (Chopin 108) and that she doesn t think about much, other than the heat of the sun. This doesn t seem terribly interesting until we read that the reason she isn t thinking is because she had, done all the thinking which was necessary after Robert went away, when she lay awake upon the sofa till morning. (Chopin 108) This means that she has already planned exactly what she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, she feels that drowning herself in the sea is the best way that she can elude her children. After walking into the sea, she begins to swim. There are several instances where we are told that she grows progressively more tired. Since she has thought so much about this swim, she should have known to turn back at the first sign of exhaustion. But she doesn t. She continues on to her ultimate death, apparently understanding and willing. Comparatively, there seems very little evidence to say that it was not suicide. A large part of any argument for just death stems from her impulsiveness, and that she could ve been struck with the urge to swim very far out without thinking of the consequences. This argument is not terribly valid since we are told that she has, in fact, thought about her trip to the beach quite a lot. She also goes on and on...thinking it [the sea] had no beginning and no end, (Chopin 109) and yet still decides to continue swimming. Her thoughts right before her death offer a plausible, non suicidal ending. She seems to understand that her life didn t have to end now, that perhaps Dr. Mandelet would have understood (Chopin 109) if only she had the strength to swim back. Although Margaret Atwood may not have had any knowledge of the French psychoanalyst s philosophies, I feel that both were making inferences on behavior and psychology and that the two undeniably synchronize with each other. I will first identify the complex philosophies of JacquesLacan and then demonstrate how the narrator falls outside of Lacan s view of society and how this leads to her demand for retreat from that society in order to become whole . Jacques Lacan was a French psychoanalyst that derived many of his theories from Sigmund Freud. His views of the conscious and unconscious being split and a ... I use the word befallen because it is this disparity, of having needs and no way to express or fulfill them, that the narrator wants to escape from and return to the original state of nature . We must understand the narrator s position in society in order to understand why she wants to return to the REAL. The second phase, the Imaginary, is where our sense of self is formed. It must be noted that the process of forming a self is a settlement for having left the REAL and a labor to regain that oneness, The fiction of the stable, whole, unified self that we see in the mirror becomes a compensation for having lost the original oneness with the mother s body. In short, according to Lacan, we lose our unity with the mother s body, the state of quot;nature, quot; in order to enter culture, but we protect ourselves from the knowledge of that loss by misperceiving ourselves as not lacking anything as being complete unto ourselves. (Klages, 2). • 43. Theme Of Social Status In Wuthering Heights Since the beginning of civilization, one s wealth, and status were determining factors that influenced their place in a stratified society. In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, the author embodied the realities of England s class system during the Victorian Era. During this Era, people were born into a class and stayed there. This was essentially captured by the idea that social mobility was rare and limited. Bronte uses characters such as Catherine, Heathcliff and Edgar as well as the second generation as a tool to emphasize the differences in class, and how it ultimately impacted the fate of the characters.Through the use of symbolism and juxtaposition, Bronte exemplifies that the potency of love and relationships cannot outweigh the necessity social status. While many will argue the impracticality of social status being the determining factor of one s way of life, this is most notably seen through Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine Earnshaw: A woman confused about her own identity and her love, ultimately led her to choose status and power over love. In fact, since the commencement of Catherine s story, the readers are able to see that her character transforms from being high spirited and rebellious into a proper girl. • 49. The Pros And Cons Of Tort Law Within Tort Law it has been acclaimed by most, that UK courts are not in favour of negligent claims brought against the police force. There is no doubt that a police officer owes a duty to protect the public However, in many regards the police aren t found to be guilty to owe any such duty. The Tort of negligenceproclaims that one must be owed a duty of care to claim, otherwise negligence caused to the claimant due to the conduct of the defendant, is held without regard. As stated in the PoliceAct 1964 The chief officer of police for any police area shall be liable in respect of torts committed by constables under his direction It was firstly suggested that the courts show willingness to invoke public policy principles of immunity where certain groups of defendants were sued in negligence , to which the case facts in Hill v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [1988] will shine light on. Moreover, one may suggest that the emergency services should be free to carry out their line of work without the conscious threat of liability. If one was to act in such a way as that which threatened overriding liability, it is questionable as to whether an officer would act in a defensive state of mind, as stated by Lord Keith in Hill . It may well be considered that the courts specifically deny claims against the emergency services, invoking public policy, as observed in Capital and Countries Bank plc v Hampshire CC [1997] and John Munroe Ltd v London Fire and Civil Defence Authority Others [1997] . The fire brigade, like the police force are too exempt on the grounds of no duty is owed to an individual if an emergency call is not responded to. Policy is essentially concerned with the notion of Duty of care and maybe considered the fourth element required for a negligence claim, primarily used to disregard claims against the police. The principles of duty of care are centred around the cases of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932) , Hill and Caparo Industries PLC v Dickman [1990] .
