I Am Nietzsche
Nietzsche even goes as far to say that Descartes statement, I think therefore I am, is not as
individualized as it should have been. The intention is that Descartes is still articulating his
statement of thought through language is because he already had a notion of what thinking meant.
And Nietzsche claims, If I had not already decided that matter within myself, by what standard
could I determined that what was happening is not perhaps willing or feeling ? (Nietzsche 46).
This way of thinking through the construction of language worries Nietzsche because if Descartes
was misled by this, then it could be true that people are frequently mislead by language. It is not
language itself that is evil, however, the illustration of Descartes... Show more content on

While there is no right or wrong answer to which author s idea holds is superior to the question
of language being a burden or an aid to societies, it would seem in contemporary society people
need a form of communication that language has to fill. While Nietzsche makes a definite point on
how language becomes a tool to deindividualize people, it can only be to a certain extent that they
evade their uniqueness. Humans must have a way to use language if they are to live in a
community even if that language is not fully illustrative of their true feelings. The time that
Nietzsche wrote Beyond Good and Evil was not much earlier than when Gadamer thought of his
works, but the world had some severe changes in the meantime. Two world wars and a growing
world population marks for large differences in the two authors works. Nietzsche s criticism of
language is more valid within smaller communities which were more likely during his time.
Although, by the time Gadamer wrote his works the world was much more colonized and mass
communication could have been probable without

Comparison Of SFBT And Narrative Therapy
Charlene, thank you very much for your discussion on SFBT and Narrative therapy.
You pointed out that with SFBT the client is the expert and this is a key element of SFBT and
developing a strength based therapeutic relationship. I truly enjoyed you addressing that the
therapist is there to guide the client but the client is the one that holds the answers for what is
best for them and how to overcome difficult situations. It is true that SFBT is a goal setting is a
key element of the therapeutic approach. SFBT would describe the clients problems by
establishing appropriate boundaries as a means of expressing ones true self. Desire and self reliance
can be regained through their competence (Bannink, 2007). SFBT is future based that strives for
positive moments and experiences than reflecting on past and negative experiences ... Show more

Furthermore, a narrative theoretical approach externalizing the words the client uses. If a client
mentions anxiety as the problem, the therapist would ask the client in what ways does anxiety look
like. Implementing exceptions to the current situation opens the possibilities of a change in the
thought process which alters their narrative story for the future.

Three Claims Against Toca
1) Decide what the District Court should conclude on each of the three claims against Toca,
Computer Fraud and Abuse Act prohibits anyone from intentionally damaging a computer without
authorization while, prohibits unauthorized users from causing damage recklessly, and from
causing damage and loss negligently (Zetter, 2014). However, the defendant has access to the
computer without authorization which in this case, Toca s accusation to Becker is similar. Thus, in
this act, intruders are held accountable for any damage they cause intentionally by trespassing on a
computer, even if they did not intend to cause that damage.

Cyber stalking laws normally classify cyber stalking as a misdemeanor offense. However, a main
issue in any cyber stalking case has been proving identity since, most people do not use their real
identities while communicating on the internet (Followill, 2015). In this case, the defendant is

Cyber stalking can result in penalties beyond jail time. Thus, if the harassment is proven to be

The History of Track and Field Essay
Track and Field events, also known as athletics, have progressed a great deal since their birth in
Olympus, around the ninth century B.C. More athletes and more nationalities compete in Track
and Field than in any other Olympic sport. Athletics is one of the largest attractions at the Modern
Olympics, drawing in huge crowds of spectators and creating interest at summer Olympics. Track
and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and
techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. The Olympic
motto, Citius, Altius, Fortius is describing the Track and Field events in Latin. The Latin means

In the data, which is available from that period, it has been shown that the number of footraces
was no more than six or seven per Olympic Games. This has changed greatly in the modern
Olympics. The winner of these Ancient Olympic races would be rewarded with an olive branch
crown. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the
Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor
composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the
Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic
trials.
Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping
we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for
momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump,
caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact,
the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about
the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet.
The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field
experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an
impetus. Some

Mean Girls Movie Essay
Mean Girls: The Adolescence Stage I will be covering the movie Mean Girls and some major
things that the movie has in concepts of the development that occurs in the adolescence stage
such as attachment, relational aggression, peer influence, and emotions. (Mark Waters, 2004)
This movie is a comedy full of memorable quotes, witty characters that some can relate with, and
a lot of laughs but realistic plot line, but what some people do not know is that some of the
actions from the Plastics can ruin their reputation and life choices.Mean Girls is about a girl

You ve got the pressure of being liked by many peers, and perceived popularity. If you picture an
image of the popular kids, you quickly realize that they have power but are not all liked so well
by many kids and teachers. Teens with high perceived popularity have good social and
leadership skills and are attractive and always dressed the best, but they also may be aggressive
and can do a lot of damage by bullying, and being mean to other kids. Relational aggression
subtle and indirect aggression that involves gossiping about and ignoring or excluding others.
(Page457) Indirect aggression such as gossiping about and ignoring others, even presumed
friends, although boys engage in more direct aggression than girls, girls tend to engage in more
relational aggression, at least in adolescence (Smith Rose, Schwartz Mette, 2010). In life it is
easier to feel good about yourself if you are popular than if you are a nerd . Once the cliques gain

Critical Analysis Of Oedipus The King
Critical Analysis: Oedipus the King Oedipus the King is a tragic play showing a shift from the
belief of fate to freedom of choice. Therefore, Oedipus the king is a great example of those who
run from fate ends up fulfilling their fate After reading this type of tragic play Oedipus the King
written by Sophoclesyou can see that the author did a very outstanding form of presenting a tragedy
that has the characteristics of mimesis and a tragic hero. Specifically, the writer written the play
that would leave many readers to be able to relate to and have a character whom characteristics are
noble and basically good. A purpose of tragedy is catharsis . In other words, the main reason for a
tragedy in a play is to purge an individual of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, however, Oedipus hubris ways led to his tragic reality. He lost his wife. He lost his
eyesight. He lost his children. He lost his kingship. With all his confidence and his persistence,
he uncovered the riddles of his life and found out that he was the boy born of Laius and Jocasta
who was the subject of the prophecy. His intelligence, pride and confidence led to this discovery,
which resulted in him losing everything that he had which in the end he fulfilled his fate. The
most crucial point in the play Oedipus the king was the fact that Oedipus was completely
unaware that he killed his own father. He had a mission to find out who was his father s killer.
Effectively the more Oedipus was motivated and with his excessive confidence in knowing the
truth of who killed his father, the play began to unravel and starts to fit together like the pieces
of a puzzle that Oedipus was known for figuring out. The more he pushed in finding who his
father killer was the more he was towards his reality of terror. The place where three roads meet
was the place where Laius was killed and the place where Oedipus, himself had killed a man. He
thought his father was a man named Polypus, the king of Corinth yet a man had shouted out at a
banquet that he was not his father s son. He was given a apprehension of a future great with pain,
terror, disaster...You are fated to couple with your mother, you will bring a breed of children

Poverty In The United States Essay
As poverty spreads, there are carving broader arcs of desperation throughout the country. A rising
number of Americans are struggling to make it from one paycheck or unemployment check to the
next (Abramsky, 2012). In the United States, families and individuals are classified as being in
poverty if their annual money income before taxes and other deductions falls below the official
povertythresholds (Betson, 1977). According to the United StatesCensus Bureau, poverty is based
on the number of people in a family, and who share an income less than three times the cost of
food for that household. The recent United State recession has pushed the number of poor young
children to their highest levels of poverty since 1994. Poverty is more pervasive... Show more

The average rate of child poverty is lowest among Whites, but Asian children are less likely to be
poor than Blacks and Hispanics (Bratter and Kimbro, 2013). Although poverty is borne more
heavily by minorities, the notion that poverty is only a minority problem is a meth. (Abramsky,
2012). Poverty is not shared equally across different demographic groups. African Americans
children, Latino children, and children in mother only families are disproportionately poor
(Corcoran and Chaudry, 1977). About 47 million Americans of all color ethnicities and
backgrounds are living at or below the poverty line (Abramsky, 2012). While the poor are barely
protected by a frayed social safety net and often disengaged from the decision making processes
that structure their lives, confronting the root causes of poverty is discouraging and increasingly
urgent (Abramsky, 2012). Dramatic changes in the family, society, and the economy have altered
the lives of children. Children are now more likely to live with a single parent with low levels of
schooling and work experience making it more difficult for parents to support a family above the
poverty level (Corcoran and Chaudry,

English Language Learners Research Paper
Teaching Math to English Language Learners
When it comes to teaching English Language Learners, math is often an under researched topic
because it is thought to be a language of numbers (Janzen, 2008). A misconception that many
educators share is that because math uses symbols it is not associated with language or culture
(Bresser, Melanese Sphar, 2009). Not all English Language Learners are the same, and often times
ELLs enter a new classroom that requires proficiency on both mathematical and linguistic levels.
ELLs come in with different levels of schooling, some come from a situation where they have been
attending school regularly, so the transition is not as hard as it is for the students who really have
not attended school on a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Math uses a specialized vocabulary that can only be learned in school. Words in math can mean
one thing and have a completely different meaning in everyday conversation. It takes English
Language Learners (ELLs) about two years to learn social (everyday) language, but math language
takes about five to seven years to learn. ELL students not only have to translate between English
and their native language, but also between social and academic language (Janzen, 2008; Slavit
Ernst Slavit, 2007). In math, we use language to explain concepts and to carry out the procedures,
so it is critical to have an understanding of the vocabulary in order to comprehend those concepts. If
students do not fully grasp the vocabulary in the problem, then they are at an obvious disadvantage.
ELLs may understand the content of the lesson, but inexperience with the language can hold them
back from expressing what they know. When students are learningto talk math, it is essential to
make the lesson comprehensible for the students, but also to make sure that the students have the
vocabulary needed to understand the instruction. It is important for students to not only be able to
understand the vocabulary used in the lesson, but also to be able to apply that vocabulary in
conversation (Bresser, Melanese Sphar,

Don t Waste Time With Time Management
Don t Waste Time With Time Management
By Laura Ashley Timms
Nov 24, 2011
We ve all heard of the concept of Time Management, but how many of us would claim that we have
really mastered it?
How do you succeed at managing your time? There is more to it than simply having and
following a schedule, as anybody who has tried this approach knows. Trying to organise what you
already do in a day to fit into a smaller space of time will not be possible simply because you type
it up and print it out as an itinerary or write it down in a planner. For this reason we talk instead
about Time Leverage, a more practical approach to making sure that your time is being used as
effectively as possible.
Time is a restricted resource.
Some companies may have bigger start up funds or a better network of potential clients, but
everybody is gifted the same amount of time in a day. Planning how to use the time you are
given should not be a matter of working through a to do list as fast as you possibly can. Whilst
this may make you super efficient, it may not be moving you towards your goals. For instance,
you may be incredibly organised in checking your mail and emails daily, with a small or empty
inbox, but if you never find a moment to email or call a potential new client or an important
contact, you simply remain static, performing tasks which will not move you closer to your or your
organisation s goals.
Be effective, not just efficient.
You will hopefully, as a business owner, already

Abstract
Telehealth has become a preferred method of healthcare delivery for many patients and healthcare
professionals alike. Some key benefits include its convenience and cost effectiveness. It also allows
patients to play a more active role in their own healthcare, which has been found to dramatically
increase patient outcomes. While research suggests that the advantages of telehealth outweigh the
disadvantages, it is important to note that not everyone would benefit from this form of technology.

Tic Disorders Inherited?
A tic is a repetitive, uncontrollable, purposeless contraction of an individual muscle or group of
muscles, usually in the face, arms, or shoulders. These movements may be signs of a minor
psychological disturbance. Such tics often occur in childhood and will probably be outgrown.
There are also tics that are caused by neurological disorders that could have resulted from brain
damage at birth, head trauma, or use of some specific medication (1). Tic disorders may be ... Show

These tics are more noticeable during stressful, fatiguing or emotional times (2). Boys are three to
four times more likely to be affected than girls. Transient tics usually do not last for more than one
year, although it is not uncommon to have these episodes over the course of several years. For
many children, the symptoms never go beyond blinking and sniffing (or similar choices) and are
often described as nervous habits or allergy symptoms.
Chronic tic disorders are differentiated from transient tic disorders in that their duration is over
many years and the behavior is unchanging. With transient tic disorder, the tic may change from
one type to another, (sniffing may be replaced by forehead furrowing and then the furrowing is
replaced by finger snapping), while in chronic tic disorder the tic remains the same for a very long
time.
Chronic multiple tics present often, and in series. Sometimes it is difficult to draw distinctions
between transient, chronic and chronic multiple tics (2).
Tourette Syndrome (TS), first described by Gilles de la Tourette, can be the most debilitating of the
tic disorders and is characterized by multiform, frequently changing motor and vocal or phonic tics.
There are multiple diagnostic criteria, as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders IV.
A. In Tourette Syndrome, both multiple motor and vocal tics have been present at some time

Columbus And Hook s Illusion Of Power
Columbus and Hook had a tyrannical illusion of power as well. Most notably Columbus upon
landing on islands in the Caribbean, he named each for instance, San Salvador, Santa Maria and,
Fernandina were all islands Christopher Columbus named although they already had names and
didn t belong to him nor the Spanish monarchy. These actions proved themselves dangerous to
the Natives a few years after Columbus arrival, as they were forced into slavery, Those left
behind were forced to search for gold in mines and work on plantations... (History.com). Slavery
and other mistreatments being allowed in the islands by Columbus is yet another example of
illusion of power, he holds no real authority but is running the islands as if they re his. Similarly,...

Hook demands respect from shipmates although he continually disrespects the crew throughout
Peter Pan as well as Hook. Both men use their illusion of power to strike fear into the people
around them, for example Captain Hook s shipmates are afraid of him so they blindly follow
him without contradicting his statements. In particular, Mr. Smee who plays the role of Hook s
assistant, is always nervous when Hook calls for Smee s attention. Correspondingly, Bartolome
de las Casas wrote in The devastation of the Indies: Hispaniola on page 42, ... [ Indians]
concealed their wives and children and still others fled to the mountains to avoid the terrible
transactions... , this alludes to the terrible horror that was struck deep into the hearts of all Natives
on the Islands with Spanish soldiers. The illusion of power these men possessed lead them to be
rude to their shipmates and others as a sign of superiority. Captain Hook is especially rude to his
shipmates who he would occasionally shoot or injure in both, Peter Pan and Hook. Christopher
Columbus however, is rude and mistreats those who he believes are below him; the

How Is Managing Climate Change, Changes America s Health
How is Managing Climate change, Changes America s Health
Fady Estany
Tennessee State University
What is Climate Change?
Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the
mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no
change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average
temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and
weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4
Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit
over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of
temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and
oceans are warming. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) As those changes take
place in our Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. So
as we understand, the managing of climate change is important, because it will create awareness on
the role of science, as well the role of humans, the effects of climate change, and the adaptation of
climate change.

Malaria Is An Infectious Disease
Background Malaria is considered as one of the deadliest diseases around the world. The cases
of malaria are getting worse and more serious especially in the African countries. Almost 40% of
the world s population could be affected by the disease. Malaria could cause over 1 million deaths
each year and could result to enormous damages to human and social being (Gething et al., 2014).
Most of the international organizations concerning human health have been working on provisions
for early the diagnosis and treatment of the disease as well as selective measures such as vector
control.
Definition
Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasitic protozoans which belong to the plasmodium
type. It is commonly transmitted by female Anopheles mosquito. The mosquito bite transfers the
bacteria into the bloodstream. The parasite migrates to the liver and reproduce. (Slutsker Kachur,
2013).
Brief History The cases of malaria could be recognized from the writings of ancient civilization.
There are ancient Chinese writings which described the symptoms of malaria (Gething et al.,
2014). However, its mechanism is not known until the discovery of the malaria parasite. The
parasite was discovered by Charles Louis Alphonse Laveran who is a French surgeon. He noticed
the parasites in the blood of the patient diagnosed with malaria. He was awarded Nobel Prize for
his discovery. In addition, the widely used antimalarial drug that is used in the modern times is
discovered during the

In 2007, the CIO had begun constructing the synthetic credit portfolio as a hedge against the

Personal Core Values And Beliefs
Situation
Where s the line between keeping your board informed and burdening the board with running the
day to day business?
Personal Core Values and Beliefs
It is important for board members to have some insight into the day to day operations of the
organization since they technically are volunteers and donors. They dedicate time to governing the
organization and financially contribute their own money and/or encourage others to do so.
However, board members are generally busy people who do not have the time for all of the minute
details. They want the overview to make the necessary decisions on behalf of the organization and
not be overwhelmed with details and the normal tasks that the staff would handle.
I am running into the lack of nonprofit board understanding by my board members. They believe
that I have the ability to oversee the organization, much like a CEO and President of a for profit
venture can. Therefore, I believe that most of them have no interest or time to really assist with
day to day operations, and I am accepting of that since I believe that their connections and networks
will provide great value.
Nonprofit Industry Norms and Standards
In the nonprofit industry, the board of directors serve as public trustees accountable to the public at
large for the governance of the organization. The board is tasked with the fiduciary duties of duty
of care, duty of loyalty, and duty of obedience (Standards for Excellence, 2014). To fulfill the duty

Consumer s Role On Creating More Garbage Over The Years
The issues pertaining to consumer s role on creating more garbage over the years remains to be a
controversial topic within the social and economic realms. Some issues that are in support of
garbage include brining in revenue to the district, employs a great amount of people, feeds our
economy by stimulating consumerism and the economy, allows individuals to live a mobile life,
helps to keep disease away and sanitary living conditions, convenient in regards to disposing
unwanted materials, and encourages composting. According to an organization called Less is More,
Organic wastes, such as food wasteand yard waste, make up 25 to 50% of what people throw

in closer proximities to each other more garbage is being produced, but by understanding how
compost their garbage efficiently can allow them to spend more on goods on the market. Some
values that are in support of garbage include prosperity, valuing one s quality of life and best
interests, morality, and wanting the best for their health. Some issues that are not in support of
garbage include the creation of excessive trash and unnecessary pollution, endangering animals
with trash, landfills and the toxins released, improperly disposing of garbage, truck pollution from

Summary Of The Heavy Wooden Door Abruptly
Slam! The heavy wooden door abruptly halts producing a shockwave composed of eight years of
anger and grief. Nora turns around. With a mindless mechanical movement, she trudges through
the dense snow. Nora follows the footprints that lie ahead of her. The snow is so deep that she
barely manages to keep her stockings half dry. The darkness quickly consumes Nora. Her sense
of direction is guided only by faint footprints, and a lambent lantern. Nora is all alone. As Nora
crests the hill, she looks one last time at her estate. Nora can faintly see Torvald s outline in the
sitting room, frozen like a painting in time. Resolutely, she turns her body and makes her way
down the steep slope. The wind whips at Nora s face as it crinkles her clothes and flaps her hair.
With a sense of freedom, Nora skips down the hill with joy like a young bird experiencing flight
for its first time. She falls. Nora s hair and dress are littered with thick clumps of snow. She
tumbles down the hill and slides across the frozen Nytt Liv stream into a soft snowbank. Slightly
shaken, Nora outwardly exclaims, Oh dear! I do have a lot to learn! Nora continues to navigate
her way through the icy landscape for some time until she reaches Krogstad s snow covered shanty.
A sense of anomie accompanies her deadpan face frozen from the cold wind. After a few moments
of blank staring, Nora knocks on the door. A solemn hollow sound penetrates through the door and
echos through the house. After a few minutes, Nora

How the Atrocities of War Exemplify the Characteristic...
In his novella Night, Elie Wiesel portrays the horrors he and his family faced at the hands of Nazi
Germany through graphic and moving descriptions of his plight. A compelling excerpt, I watched
other hangings. I never saw a single victim weep. These withered bodies had long forgotten the
bitter taste of tears, demonstrates the utter disregard for human life that many of the world s leaders
adopt in times of war, inspiring further research through the evocation of a need to more thoroughly
learn about the moral ambiguity that envelops those in positions of power during wartime. This
characteristic moral ambiguity of human nature is most clearly seen in the atrocities of war through
institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders to sacrifice troops. Through
analyses of conflicts such as the World War II, the Vietnam War, the Civil War, the An Lushan
Rebellion, and the Muslim conquest of the Indian subcontinent in such genres as non fiction books,
documentaries, the internet, music, and poems, the moral ambiguity of the human race is proven
to lead to atrocities of war such as institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders
to sacrifice the lives of their troops. Many painful examples of disregard for human life can be
seen across all instances of war, although perhaps most notably in the horrors the Jewish people,
among others, faced in the Holocaustof World War II at the hands of Hitler and the Nazi Party. The

Social Learning With Chimpanzees And Other Animals
Learning by observation is a type of learning in which an individual observes the behavior of
others, sees the consequences of the behaviors, and then attempts to carry out the same behavior.
Social learning is based on the standards of classical and operant conditioning and observational
learning. It is a commonly shared belief that people have an instinctive ability to imitate the
behaviorof others. However, this ability is not unique to humans. Animals have also showed
evidence of being able to mimic humans and other animals (Mazur, 2013). Chimpanzees, or Pan
Troglodytes, have demonstrated social learningthrough many different experiments in different
settings. Chimpanzees have shown the ability to observe the behavior of a model and reproduce
the behavior. However, chimpanzees have also demonstrated the mental capacity of understanding
when behaviors do not elicit a desired reaction and not repeating these behaviors under these
circumstances. This paper will focus on chimpanzees and their ability to learn new behaviors
through social learning. Marshall Pescini and Whiten (2008) discuss social learning with
chimpanzees in East Africa, focusing on the task of nut cracking. Nut cracking is unique to wild
chimpanzees who live in West Africa, so this study intended to measure whether or not
chimpanzees who do not live in the wild in West Africa would demonstrate the same ability to
learn nut cracking. The study took place on Ngamba Island in Lake Victoria, Uganda at a

Abstract This paper analyzes the multifaceted and ever evolving relationship between the European
Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO). With the globalization of security
concerns and with the series of major terrorist attacks beginning on September 11, 2001,
cooperation between these two major powers is becoming increasingly important and hotly
debated. In this day and age international security is of the utmost importance. The world leaders in
international security are the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO) and the European Union
(EU). This paper explores the relationship between these two institutions in the context of security
policies, members, global effect, and the participation and influence of the United States.
Introduction A separation has existed between the EU and NATO since there founding s, however,
with the growing realization that the concerns facing the international community can no longer be
managed by these organizations individually the issue of how the relationship between these
organizations will progress is being pushed into the forethought of political debate. Given the extent
of the transatlantic relationship, congressional foreign policy activities, and interests frequently
involve Europe, the relationship between the United States and the European Union (EU) has
become increasingly significant in recent years. This relationship is likely to grow even more
important. In this context, Members of Congress

As this question states, William Wordsworth s poetry demonstrates nature poet, real language of
men, spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, and emotion recollected in tranquility. The first
is the easiest to indemnify. In Wordsworth s poem Ode: Intimations of Immortality from
Recollections of Early Childhood , there are several lines that depict nature. An example is the
line, The Rainbow comes and goes, / And lovely is the Rose. (Wordsworth 10 11). In the preface to
Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth defines real language of men as a line or a sequence of lines that are
written in the language of prose rather than the poetic metre normally associated with poetry

wander from land to land somewhere between life and death, continually repeating his story

To him my tale I teach. (Coleridge 587 590)

Tammany Hall Gambling
State and federal laws preventing lotteries had a profound unintended consequence. There is a long
history of illegal gambling proceeds corrupting politics and one of the most appropriate examples
involves the Democratic Party political machine of New York City, Tammany Hall. Zachariah
Simmons built a very organized network with hundreds of policy shops throughout New York City.
In just one week, the gross receipts totaled $1 million and a great deal of those profits trickled
down to the local political bosses. Tammany Hall ruled politics in New York City for decades by
a few simple means corruption and voter fraud. For example, Tammany Hall literally released
prisoners from the penitentiary to vote for them in the election of 1843. William... Show more

Big Tim Sullivan was the leader of an unofficial gambling commission in New York City.
Members of the secretive commission included Frank Farrell (New York City gambling mogul),
a State Senator, and the Chief of Police, Bill Devery. Every gambling house, policy shop, and
craps game was charged at least $300 for a license, which was collected by the local precinct
captain. There was no pretense with these licenses as there were no regulations in place to protect
consumers. This was simply a lucrative bribery system amounting to $3,095,000 for the year of
1900, according to the The New York Times. Obviously, the ban on gambling wasn t

Analysis Of An Eye Who Is The Whole World Go Blind
An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. Ghandi. The story of Dawn reinforces this well
known quote by demonstrating the heavy silence of murder and it s feeble justifications.
A few years after the Holocaust, one of it s victims, Elisha, is recruited from his home in Paris as a
terrorist in the city of Palestine. In his short time there, he has participated in violent group
retaliation against the British, yet has never been forced to kill individually until now. This story
documents the tale of a young boy s struggle to come to term with the human s ability to commit
cruel acts, as well as his struggle to justify the ultimate act of cruelty: murder. Within it s startling
revelations of the human conscience, Dawn illuminates that the comforts of revenge are only
temporary; murder terminates all answers.
With this, the author, Elie Wiesel, is able crumble the foundations of terrorisms and the reasoning
that hate can ever resolve hate in his first novel, called Dawn.
Dawn takes place in Palestine, a place where the Jewish community wakes up to a red, vengeful
sky. After surviving the Holocaustthe main character, Elisha, has been recruited as a terrorist for
the Freedom Movement. For Elisha, who is now without a family, the Freedom Movement
represents a new dawn, an act of hope, and most importantly, a retaliation in the name of faith to
secure what s rightfully his peoples. However, daybreak presents Elisha with a more tortured
reality; he has been

Objective Morality
My purpose in writing this is to argue for the existence of an objective morality based entirely on
rational and scientific reasoning. By objective morality I do not simply mean that morality exists in
the sense that various societies consider various actions to be immoral. What I mean is that certain
actions are inherently right or wrong regardless of what any society thinks about them. In other
words, I mean that there is an objective moralitywhich exists independently of human beliefs and
human civilization. There are many people who have the opinion that it is not possible to believe
in such an objective morality without also believing in concepts such as God or an eternal soul. I
believe that they are wrong. I will attempt to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this perspective, rocks fell to the ground while steam rose because everything tends
to go to its natural place. If we do a more thorough examination, including all the cultures
throughout all of history, we will find an even larger variety of opinions regarding the law of gravity.
This does not, though, mean that there is no objective law of gravity which exists independently
of human society. The beliefs in gravity which I described are attempts by human societies to
approximate reality. Clearly, some approximations are better than others. Perhaps the current belief
in the curvature of space time is also incorrect and will later be replaced by an even better
approximation. However, most people would have no problem agreeing that the curvature of space
time explanation of gravity is a better approximation to reality than the explanations which came
before it.
All that this shows is that even though different cultures hold very different beliefs about a
certain issue, this does not necessarily imply that there is no objective reality behind these
beliefs. The claim which I will be arguing for is that this is the same for morality as it is for gravity.
All the moral beliefs which came before us and all the moral beliefs today are, in exactly the same
way as in the case of gravity, approximations to

The Between Self Disclosure And Computer Mediated...
This article explores the difference between self disclosure in Computer Mediated
Communication (CMC) and Face to Face Communication (FTF). More specifically, this article
focuses Joseph Walther s Hyperpersonal Model from 1996, and presents an attributional
extension on the model. The article begins by discussing the presence of self disclosure on the
internet, stating that self disclosure is rife in profiles for online dating and that the average
Facebook user discloses approximately 25% of the standard information that could be disclosed .
The article states that while there has been lots of research articles on the reasons that self
disclosure is so prevalent in CMC, such as anonymity and selective self presentation, they all seem
to make the assumption that increased self disclosure in CMC directly results in increased
intimacy. Hence, while research has shown that people disclose more information in CMC relative
to FTF, no one has empirically proven the impact of self disclosure on intimacy in CMC.The article
continues by defining the concepts and theories crucial to understanding the topic at hand. The
disclosure intimacy link is a theory which states that self disclosure is directly proven to foster
intimacy in a relationship (Sternberg,1988). The Hyperpersonal model sets out to explain the
reason why some online relationships tend to be more intimate than FTF relationships (Parks
Floyd, 1996). The Hyperpersonal Model states that CMC can be Hyperpersonal

Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow vs. The...
When we compare Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the 1980 television
movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow starring Meg Foster, Dick Butkus, and Jeff Goldblum, we
find that while there are several similarities between the two, there are also some key differences.
When we look at various characters as well as the storyline, we see those similarities and
differences. Washington Irvings depiction of Katrina Van Tassel is that she was a little of a
coquette and liked to mix older and modern fashions she wore the...stomacher of the older time; and
withal a provokingly short petticoat, to display the prettiest foot and ankle (Irving 325) because
they accentuated her best features. Add in her beauty a blooming lass... Show more content on

After he expresses his sorrow again, her reply is, Indeed you were, sir (6:56 7:09). She also
made sure that when she was leaving, after Ichabod learned who she is, that her father (who
hired him) could fire him just as fast (7:21 7:25). An example of her coquettishness is when she
ponders the possibility for a girl to have two suitors; and she is called selfish and greedy by
another character because the person that already has the best man in the county wrapped
around her finger like a wedding ring shouldn t be making google eyes at other men (46:16
46:33); this goes to show a similarity to the written story. During the course of the movie,
however, she becomes increasingly interested in Ichabod; she tells another character that she
wants a gentle man, an educated man, a quiet man (48:12 48:19). She is in love with Ichabod,
which is a contrast to the movie. The ending of their story in the movie is also not the same as
the written story; we assume they live happily ever after. Moving from Katrina to her biggest
suitor (in every sense of the word), we find that Irving s representation of Abraham Brom Van
Brunt, otherwise known as Brom Bones, can be summed up in Irving s own words. His physical
appearance, his Herculean frame and great powers of limb (Irving 327), caused Brom to be the
object of awe, admiration, and good will by the people of Sleepy Hollow (Irving 328). Brom was
generally considered a mixture of entertainment

U.s. Dollar, China s Central Bank
In order to contend with the US Dollar, China s central bank has devalued the Yuan nearly 2% in
August 2015.This bank policy was seemed to be a wave to the Chinese market, even the economic
market all around the world, which brought a series of fluctuation and impact to the economy. Why
china took this monetary action to face with the problem from the US dollar (What are the
factors)? What is the (Positive or negative) influence will be aroused in the short term by this
Chinese Yuan depreciation? What will be happen if this devaluation last in the further and what will
be affected by this monetary policyin the long term? The following text will answer and analyse
these three questions.

So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons,
China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the
healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the
monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly
speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In
conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan)
circulate in the international economic market, externally are the two key factors drove China to
devalue Yuan.
In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative
impact in China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will
go up considerably in the short run.
Aggregate demand is the total level of spending in the economy and consists of four elements:
consumer spending (C), private investment (I), government expenditure on goods and services (G)
and expenditure on exports (X) less expenditure on imports (M), Thus AD=C+I+G+X M (Sloman,
Wride and Garratt, 2015). According to the Diagram 1 (Tradingeconomics.com, 2015), It is obvious
to find that after July, 2015, China s export expenditure increased significantly, especially in August

Torture Is Always Wrong Analysis
The author, Melissa Mae, explains the issue, along with the opposing sides, clearly. Mae begins the
essay by introducing the issue. She says the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib gained attention
around 2004. Americans became concerned when they found out the government was using torture
and were extremely upset about it. She states that people believed torture was being used as a part
of the government s interrogation of war on terror detainees. Though she tells the readers what the
issue is, she never fully explains it. She only tells us that the essays she wrote about were written
around the time the debate was heating up. A positive trait about this essayis that she stated the issue
in the first paragraph.
Not only does Mae give examples from both sides, but she also includes many quotes that keep the
reader interested. She writes, Whereas Bagaric and Clarke think saving lives justifies torture,
however, Johnson believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mae gives the same amount of examples from each side of the argument. Whenever talking about
one writer, she also adds input from the other writer. Mae says, Bagaric and Clarke, in their turn,
anticipate Johnson s argument and refute it by arguing that those who believe (as Johnson does)
that torture is always wrong are misguided. This helps the reader understand both sides of the
argument equally. The writer gives an interesting aspect to the essay. She makes her point clear to
the audience, which makes the essay readable. In the essay, Mae adds fascinating details to keep
the reader interested. When the essay begins to get uninteresting, she adds a detail that makes you
want to continue reading. Paragraph two is a prime example of this. Mae gives a few facts about
the authors, loosing interest from the reader, and then proceeds to add the common ground at the
end of the paragraph. Adding the common ground there persuades the reader to continue

Pan Europa s Main Issues
II. Issue Identification Pan Europa s main issues can be divided into three parts, the first and
most important being their financial struggle. Due to a recent price war, Pan Europa s
profitability has suffered greatly. Their debt equity ratio of 1.25 and price to earnings ratio of 8
times has resulted in a below average stock price. Currently, their stock is being traded below
book value and well below its competition. This can have a disastrous effect on the company as
many major security brokers are labeling the stock as uncertain and issuing sell recommendations
to investors. This can result in the rapid sale of equity that would deflate Pan Europa s value even
further. Such an event also opens the door for a hostile takeover, as a third party can quickly
acquire a large portion of equity. A high debt equity ratio and historically high debt financing
initiatives increases potential for financial distress, and possibly bankruptcy, if they cannot recover
sufficient funds to cover their cost of debt The second issue faced by Pan Europa has to do with
their external environment. Low population growth in northern Europe coupled with increasingly
saturated markets has resulted in stagnant sales. As competition intensifies, Pan Europa is forced to
make risky decisions, such as the provocation of a price war mentioned above. Although they may
cause smaller, weaker firms to exit the market in the short term, these rash decisions have impacted
Pan Europa s bottom line.

Importance Of Measuring Meridian Arcs Essay
The completion of the survey of a great chain of first order triangulation s along the arc of the 30th
meridian of east longitude, from South Africa to Egypt, is considered one of the most exceptional
surveying feats to ever be executed in Africa and thus its history has interested geodetic surveyors
throughout the world. This paper aims to expatiate on the importance of measuring meridian arcs,
the need to establish a geodetic survey in a country or continent and subsequently will recount the
sequence of events that led to the 75 year length completion of the African arc.
The size and shape of the Earth have been of interest to man since the earliest of times, dating as
far back to Eratosthenes in the third century. Throughout the years during the 18th and 19th
century, geodesists were pre occupied with the task of devising a more accurate determination of
the size and shape of the Earth. This led to the observing of necessary triangulations along arcs to
determine the radius of the Earth and its degree of flattening (MacDonald, 2000). The African arc,
conceived by Sir David Gill, Her Majesty s Astronomer at Cape Town, was created with the
understanding that it would contribute immensely to the better knowledge of the form and
dimensions on the Earth (Smith, 2006) therefore adding value to the advancement of geodesy.
However, besides the need to determine more accurate dimensions for the Earth (Hendriks, 1955),
there was a pressing need to establish a reliable and

Alleles Lab Report
The Effect of Regularity of Environmental Disasters on Allele Frequencies in a Moth Population
The purpose of this experiment was to determine how changing environmental factors would affect
the allele frequencies in a population of white, brown, and black moths. More specifically, the aim
was to see if final allele frequencies would coincide with the Hardy Weinberg theory of evolution,
or if genetic drift, amplified by environmental disasters, would play a significant role in the outcome
of the experiment.
The results of the experiment were analyzed using a Chi squared test. Expected results were
calculated for a hypothetical situation where the population of moths corresponded with the Hardy
Weinberg theory, and these expected results... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(4) When a population changes (either increases or decreases) for seemingly no reason, genetic
drift is most often to blame. (1) Frequencies of alleles available in the gene pool for that
population are subject to change when evolution takes place, and one or more alleles can
sometimes vanish. Populations with fewer organisms often experience more substantial genetic
drift, due to the fact that if there is less of an allele in a gene pool during a generation, there is a
higher risk that a large amount of that allele will be removed just due to random chance genetic
drift. (4) It is important to note that the final population during the frequent disasters trial became
243 from an original 4000 when one of the alleles ( a ) was lost. This is considered a population
bottleneck (4) where the population decreased by a significant amount. In a situation like this,
there are fewer alleles available in the gene pool of that population for that generation, so there is a
bigger chance that genetic drift will accidently cause the loss of a substantial portion of one of the
alleles, driving it to discontinuation.

Life Insurance, Accidental, And Long And Short Term...
Life insurance provides a guarantee of compensation in the case of loss of life in return for a
payment of a premium paid to a company. Life insurance, in different forms, may be offered by
many companies as part of a comprehensive benefits package. It is a significant benefit as it
provides family members with financial assistance and peace of mind in the event of death.
There are several different options for to choose from and deciding what options are best for each
will depend on several factors and the advantages of each option and the goals of each. This paper
will define the different insuranceprograms that may be available in organization s compensation
and benefits package precisely term life insurance, universal, whole life insurance, accidental death
dismemberment, and long and short term disability insurance. It will further outline the advantages
of each.
No one can predict when their death is going to happen and for many this type of conversation may
be one that is uncomfortable. However, when thinking about loved ones left behind it is important
to think about the financial burdens that they may face in one s absence. Therefore, life insurance
should be thought of as income replacement that will be lost due to premature death. The factors an
individual should consider are the expenses required to be maintained such as mortgage, college
education, living expenses and surviving spouse retirement (Failla, 2014). In determining the
options that may be

What Is The Archetypes In To Kill A Mockingbird
Literary criticism is an informed written analysis and evaluation of a literature. Also literary theory
is a means to understand the various ways people read and connect through texts. In the novel, To
Kill A Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee, the story displays archetypal criticisms through using
multiple archetypes within the work. This criticism displays how reoccurring symbols, situations,
and themes help develop the story. Throughout the novel, the archetypes being the hero, victim,
and the tree as a symbol for friendship are used. The hero archetype is reflected numerous times in
TKAM. One character who shows heroic traits is Scout when the text states, Jem shrieked and

Tom Robinson, who was the main victim of the novel, had been defended by Atticus who had
said, And so a quiet, respectable, humble negro who had the unmitigated temerity to feel sorry
for a white woman has had to put his word against two white people s (Lee 273). Tom came to be
a victim because he suffered from the statements that Bob Ewell said and was cheated. Although
he is against white people who have their stories wrong and filled of lies, he is the one who loses
the case when this should not have been what occurred. As a result of this, it causes him to be
sent to prison where he later kills himself. This is due to the fact that this ruined his emotional
state which led to the build up to his death. Similarly, Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by
people such as Miss Stephanie Crawford whose rumors say, As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo
drove the scissors into his parent s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed
his activities (Lee 13). Boo is a victim because he is deceived. Since not much is known about
him, the town of Maycomb spreads rumors, which lead to false impressions about him. Also, he
suffers by how he is perceived because this leads for him to not come out and face all of the
prejudice within Maycomb. Most importantly he is emotionally hurt because in the beginning of
the story Jem and Scout are curious about him and want to see him when he does not want to be
with anyone at all. Likewise, Jem is a victim as he was being helped from the encounter with
Bob when he was with Scout because it was seen that, Jem s arm was dangling crazily in front of
him (Lee 353). As Jem and Scout are coming back, Jem is mainly a victim since he is physically
harmed from this event by having his arm broken by Bob Ewell. He was targeted by Ewell due to
the actions of Atticus, which caused

Essay on Jay Gatsby’s Dangerous Illusions in The Great Gatsby
Jay s Dangerous Illusions in The Great Gatsby
America is a land of opportunity and hopes and dreams can become reality. The American Dream
consists of the notion that the struggling poor can achieve financial success through hard work. F.
Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, puts this premise to the test while also warning against
the dangers of believing too passionately in any dream. The central character, Jay Gatsby, proves a
tragic hero who succeeds financially but fails emotionally when he attempts to hold onto something
from the past (Mizener 126). Gatsby not only possesses imaginative dreams, but also idealistic
illusions. These illusions eventually result in the unfortunate downfall of Jay Gatsby. ... Show more

Not a second passes that Gatsby does not obsess about what could have been had things worked
out differently five years before.
Jay Gatsby s current state is one of emptiness and despair because he fails to live in the present
by dwelling too much in the past. Gatsby and Daisy are alike in the fact that both carry well
forgotten dreams from age to age (Fitzgerald 143), but Daisy has moved on with her marriage to
Tom, while Gatsby is left stretching out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way
(Fitzgerald 25). Gatsby finally musters the courage to become reunited with Daisy Buchanan, with
the help of his next door neighbor, Nick Carraway. Nick holds tea at his house and invites the
unsuspecting Daisy. For a few minutes at least, the two connect with passionate intensity, but Nick
makes the observation that:
There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams not
through her own fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion. It had gone beyond her,
beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time,
decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can
challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart (Fitzgerald 101).
Gatsby finds himself with Daisy again, yet will not accept that they are not meant to be

  • 2. I Am Nietzsche Nietzsche even goes as far to say that Descartes statement, I think therefore I am, is not as individualized as it should have been. The intention is that Descartes is still articulating his statement of thought through language is because he already had a notion of what thinking meant. And Nietzsche claims, If I had not already decided that matter within myself, by what standard could I determined that what was happening is not perhaps willing or feeling ? (Nietzsche 46). This way of thinking through the construction of language worries Nietzsche because if Descartes was misled by this, then it could be true that people are frequently mislead by language. It is not language itself that is evil, however, the illustration of Descartes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there is no right or wrong answer to which author s idea holds is superior to the question of language being a burden or an aid to societies, it would seem in contemporary society people need a form of communication that language has to fill. While Nietzsche makes a definite point on how language becomes a tool to deindividualize people, it can only be to a certain extent that they evade their uniqueness. Humans must have a way to use language if they are to live in a community even if that language is not fully illustrative of their true feelings. The time that Nietzsche wrote Beyond Good and Evil was not much earlier than when Gadamer thought of his works, but the world had some severe changes in the meantime. Two world wars and a growing world population marks for large differences in the two authors works. Nietzsche s criticism of language is more valid within smaller communities which were more likely during his time. Although, by the time Gadamer wrote his works the world was much more colonized and mass communication could have been probable without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of SFBT And Narrative Therapy Charlene, thank you very much for your discussion on SFBT and Narrative therapy. You pointed out that with SFBT the client is the expert and this is a key element of SFBT and developing a strength based therapeutic relationship. I truly enjoyed you addressing that the therapist is there to guide the client but the client is the one that holds the answers for what is best for them and how to overcome difficult situations. It is true that SFBT is a goal setting is a key element of the therapeutic approach. SFBT would describe the clients problems by establishing appropriate boundaries as a means of expressing ones true self. Desire and self reliance can be regained through their competence (Bannink, 2007). SFBT is future based that strives for positive moments and experiences than reflecting on past and negative experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the defendant has access to the computer without authorization which in this case, Toca s accusation to Becker is similar. • 5. The History of Track and Field Essay Track and Field events, also known as athletics, have progressed a great deal since their birth in Olympus, around the ninth century B.C. More athletes and more nationalities compete in Track and Field than in any other Olympic sport. Athletics is one of the largest attractions at the Modern Olympics, drawing in huge crowds of spectators and creating interest at summer Olympics. Track and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. The Olympic motto, Citius, Altius, Fortius is describing the Track and Field events in Latin. The Latin means Faster (Swifter), Higher, Stronger, and indicates the running,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the data, which is available from that period, it has been shown that the number of footraces was no more than six or seven per Olympic Games. This has changed greatly in the modern Olympics. The winner of these Ancient Olympic races would be rewarded with an olive branch crown. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic trials. Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump, caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact, the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet. The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an impetus. Relational aggression subtle and indirect aggression that involves gossiping about and ignoring or excluding others. Therefore, Oedipus the king is a great example of those who run from fate ends up fulfilling their fate After reading this type of tragic play Oedipus the King written by Sophoclesyou can see that the author did a very outstanding form of presenting a tragedy that has the characteristics of mimesis and a tragic hero. His intelligence, pride and confidence led to this discovery, which resulted in him losing everything that he had which in the end he fulfilled his fate. The most crucial point in the play Oedipus the king was the fact that Oedipus was completely unaware that he killed his own father. He had a mission to find out who was his father s killer. Effectively the more Oedipus was motivated and with his excessive confidence in knowing the truth of who killed his father, the play began to unravel and starts to fit together like the pieces of a puzzle that Oedipus was known for figuring out. The more he pushed in finding who his father killer was the more he was towards his reality of terror. The place where three roads meet was the place where Laius was killed and the place where Oedipus, himself had killed a man. • 8. Poverty In The United States Essay As poverty spreads, there are carving broader arcs of desperation throughout the country. A rising number of Americans are struggling to make it from one paycheck or unemployment check to the next (Abramsky, 2012). In the United States, families and individuals are classified as being in poverty if their annual money income before taxes and other deductions falls below the official povertythresholds (Betson, 1977). According to the United StatesCensus Bureau, poverty is based on the number of people in a family, and who share an income less than three times the cost of food for that household. The average rate of child poverty is lowest among Whites, but Asian children are less likely to be poor than Blacks and Hispanics (Bratter and Kimbro, 2013). Although poverty is borne more heavily by minorities, the notion that poverty is only a minority problem is a meth. (Abramsky, 2012). Poverty is not shared equally across different demographic groups. African Americans children, Latino children, and children in mother only families are disproportionately poor (Corcoran and Chaudry, 1977). About 47 million Americans of all color ethnicities and backgrounds are living at or below the poverty line (Abramsky, 2012). While the poor are barely protected by a frayed social safety net and often disengaged from the decision making processes that structure their lives, confronting the root causes of poverty is discouraging and increasingly urgent (Abramsky, 2012). Dramatic changes in the family, society, and the economy have altered the lives of children. Children are now more likely to live with a single parent with low levels of schooling and work experience making it more difficult for parents to support a family above the poverty level (Corcoran and Chaudry, ... English Language Learners Research Paper Teaching Math to English Language Learners When it comes to teaching English Language Learners, math is often an under researched topic because it is thought to be a language of numbers (Janzen, 2008). A misconception that many educators share is that because math uses symbols it is not associated with language or culture (Bresser, Melanese Sphar, 2009). Not all English Language Learners are the same, and often times ELLs enter a new classroom that requires proficiency on both mathematical and linguistic levels. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Math uses a specialized vocabulary that can only be learned in school. Words in math can mean one thing and have a completely different meaning in everyday conversation. It takes English Language Learners (ELLs) about two years to learn social (everyday) language, but math language takes about five to seven years to learn. ELL students not only have to translate between English and their native language, but also between social and academic language (Janzen, 2008; Slavit Ernst Slavit, 2007). In math, we use language to explain concepts and to carry out the procedures, so it is critical to have an understanding of the vocabulary in order to comprehend those concepts. If students do not fully grasp the vocabulary in the problem, then they are at an obvious disadvantage. ELLs may understand the content of the lesson, but inexperience with the language can hold them back from expressing what they know. When students are learningto talk math, it is essential to make the lesson comprehensible for the students, but also to make sure that the students have the vocabulary needed to understand the instruction. It is important for students to not only be able to understand the vocabulary used in the lesson, but also to be able to apply that vocabulary in conversation (Bresser, Melanese Sphar, ... • 15. Don t Waste Time With Time Management Don t Waste Time With Time Management By Laura Ashley Timms Nov 24, 2011 We ve all heard of the concept of Time Management, but how many of us would claim that we have really mastered it? How do you succeed at managing your time? There is more to it than simply having and following a schedule, as anybody who has tried this approach knows. Trying to organise what you already do in a day to fit into a smaller space of time will not be possible simply because you type it up and print it out as an itinerary or write it down in a planner. For this reason we talk instead about Time Leverage, a more practical approach to making sure that your time is being used as effectively as possible. Time is a restricted resource. Some companies may have bigger start up funds or a better network of potential clients, but everybody is gifted the same amount of time in a day. Planning how to use the time you are given should not be a matter of working through a to do list as fast as you possibly can. Whilst this may make you super efficient, it may not be moving you towards your goals. For instance, you may be incredibly organised in checking your mail and emails daily, with a small or empty inbox, but if you never find a moment to email or call a potential new client or an important contact, you simply remain static, performing tasks which will not move you closer to your or your organisation s goals. A tic is a repetitive, uncontrollable, purposeless contraction of an individual muscle or group of muscles, usually in the face, arms, or shoulders. For many children, the symptoms never go beyond blinking and sniffing (or similar choices) and are often described as nervous habits or allergy symptoms. Chronic tic disorders are differentiated from transient tic disorders in that their duration is over many years and the behavior is unchanging. With transient tic disorder, the tic may change from one type to another, (sniffing may be replaced by forehead furrowing and then the furrowing is replaced by finger snapping), while in chronic tic disorder the tic remains the same for a very long time. Chronic multiple tics present often, and in series. Sometimes it is difficult to draw distinctions between transient, chronic and chronic multiple tics (2). Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4 Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and oceans are warming. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) As those changes take place in our Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. The mosquito bite transfers the bacteria into the bloodstream. The parasite migrates to the liver and reproduce. (Slutsker Kachur, 2013). Brief History The cases of malaria could be recognized from the writings of ancient civilization. There are ancient Chinese writings which described the symptoms of malaria (Gething et al., 2014). However, its mechanism is not known until the discovery of the malaria parasite. The parasite was discovered by Charles Louis Alphonse Laveran who is a French surgeon. Analysis Of William Wordsworth s Poetry As this question states, William Wordsworth s poetry demonstrates nature poet, real language of men, spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, and emotion recollected in tranquility. The first is the easiest to indemnify. In Wordsworth s poem Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood , there are several lines that depict nature. An example is the line, The Rainbow comes and goes, / And lovely is the Rose. (Wordsworth 10 11). In the preface to Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth defines real language of men as a line or a sequence of lines that are written in the language of prose rather than the poetic metre normally associated with poetry (Preface to Lyrical Ballads n.d.). The story of Dawn reinforces this well known quote by demonstrating the heavy silence of murder and it s feeble justifications. A few years after the Holocaust, one of it s victims, Elisha, is recruited from his home in Paris as a terrorist in the city of Palestine. In his short time there, he has participated in violent group retaliation against the British, yet has never been forced to kill individually until now. This story documents the tale of a young boy s struggle to come to term with the human s ability to commit cruel acts, as well as his struggle to justify the ultimate act of cruelty: murder. Within it s startling revelations of the human conscience, Dawn illuminates that the comforts of revenge are only temporary; murder terminates all answers. With this, the author, Elie Wiesel, is able crumble the foundations of terrorisms and the reasoning that hate can ever resolve hate in his first novel, called Dawn. Dawn takes place in Palestine, a place where the Jewish community wakes up to a red, vengeful sky. After surviving the Holocaustthe main character, Elisha, has been recruited as a terrorist for the Freedom Movement. By objective morality I do not simply mean that morality exists in the sense that various societies consider various actions to be immoral. What I mean is that certain actions are inherently right or wrong regardless of what any society thinks about them. In other words, I mean that there is an objective moralitywhich exists independently of human beliefs and human civilization. There are many people who have the opinion that it is not possible to believe in such an objective morality without also believing in concepts such as God or an eternal soul. I believe that they are wrong. I will attempt to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this perspective, rocks fell to the ground while steam rose because everything tends to go to its natural place. If we do a more thorough examination, including all the cultures throughout all of history, we will find an even larger variety of opinions regarding the law of gravity. This does not, though, mean that there is no objective law of gravity which exists independently of human society. The beliefs in gravity which I described are attempts by human societies to approximate reality. Clearly, some approximations are better than others. Perhaps the current belief in the curvature of space time is also incorrect and will later be replaced by an even better approximation. However, most people would have no problem agreeing that the curvature of space time explanation of gravity is a better approximation to reality than the explanations which came before it. All that this shows is that even though different cultures hold very different beliefs about a certain issue, this does not necessarily imply that there is no objective reality behind these beliefs. The claim which I will be arguing for is that this is the same for morality as it is for gravity. All the moral beliefs which came before us and all the moral beliefs today are, in exactly the same way as in the case of gravity, approximations to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article explores the difference between self disclosure in Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and Face to Face Communication (FTF). More specifically, this article focuses Joseph Walther s Hyperpersonal Model from 1996, and presents an attributional extension on the model. The article begins by discussing the presence of self disclosure on the internet, stating that self disclosure is rife in profiles for online dating and that the average Facebook user discloses approximately 25% of the standard information that could be disclosed . The article states that while there has been lots of research articles on the reasons that self disclosure is so prevalent in CMC, such as anonymity and selective self presentation, they all seem to make the assumption that increased self disclosure in CMC directly results in increased intimacy. Hence, while research has shown that people disclose more information in CMC relative to FTF, no one has empirically proven the impact of self disclosure on intimacy in CMC.The article continues by defining the concepts and theories crucial to understanding the topic at hand. The disclosure intimacy link is a theory which states that self disclosure is directly proven to foster intimacy in a relationship (Sternberg,1988). The Hyperpersonal model sets out to explain the reason why some online relationships tend to be more intimate than FTF relationships (Parks Floyd, 1996). When we compare Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the 1980 television movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow starring Meg Foster, Dick Butkus, and Jeff Goldblum, we find that while there are several similarities between the two, there are also some key differences. Washington Irvings depiction of Katrina Van Tassel is that she was a little of a coquette and liked to mix older and modern fashions she wore the...stomacher of the older time; and withal a provokingly short petticoat, to display the prettiest foot and ankle (Irving 325) because they accentuated her best features. She also made sure that when she was leaving, after Ichabod learned who she is, that her father (who hired him) could fire him just as fast (7:21 7:25). An example of her coquettishness is when she ponders the possibility for a girl to have two suitors; and she is called selfish and greedy by another character because the person that already has the best man in the county wrapped around her finger like a wedding ring shouldn t be making google eyes at other men (46:16 46:33); this goes to show a similarity to the written story. She is in love with Ichabod, which is a contrast to the movie. The ending of their story in the movie is also not the same as the written story; we assume they live happily ever after. She states that people believed torture was being used as a part of the government s interrogation of war on terror detainees. • 49. Pan Europa s Main Issues II. Issue Identification Pan Europa s main issues can be divided into three parts, the first and most important being their financial struggle. Due to a recent price war, Pan Europa s profitability has suffered greatly. Their debt equity ratio of 1.25 and price to earnings ratio of 8 times has resulted in a below average stock price. Currently, their stock is being traded below book value and well below its competition. This can have a disastrous effect on the company as many major security brokers are labeling the stock as uncertain and issuing sell recommendations to investors. This can result in the rapid sale of equity that would deflate Pan Europa s value even further. Such an event also opens the door for a hostile takeover, as a third party can quickly acquire a large portion of equity. A high debt equity ratio and historically high debt financing initiatives increases potential for financial distress, and possibly bankruptcy, if they cannot recover sufficient funds to cover their cost of debt The second issue faced by Pan Europa has to do with their external environment. Low population growth in northern Europe coupled with increasingly saturated markets has resulted in stagnant sales. As competition intensifies, Pan Europa is forced to make risky decisions, such as the provocation of a price war mentioned above. Although they may cause smaller, weaker firms to exit the market in the short term, these rash decisions have impacted Pan Europa s bottom line. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Importance Of Measuring Meridian Arcs Essay The completion of the survey of a great chain of first order triangulation s along the arc of the 30th meridian of east longitude, from South Africa to Egypt, is considered one of the most exceptional surveying feats to ever be executed in Africa and thus its history has interested geodetic surveyors throughout the world. This paper aims to expatiate on the importance of measuring meridian arcs, the need to establish a geodetic survey in a country or continent and subsequently will recount the sequence of events that led to the 75 year length completion of the African arc. The size and shape of the Earth have been of interest to man since the earliest of times, dating as far back to Eratosthenes in the third century. Throughout the years during the 18th and 19th century, geodesists were pre occupied with the task of devising a more accurate determination of the size and shape of the Earth. This led to the observing of necessary triangulations along arcs to determine the radius of the Earth and its degree of flattening (MacDonald, 2000). The African arc, conceived by Sir David Gill, Her Majesty s Astronomer at Cape Town, was created with the understanding that it would contribute immensely to the better knowledge of the form and dimensions on the Earth (Smith, 2006) therefore adding value to the advancement of geodesy. However, besides the need to determine more accurate dimensions for the Earth (Hendriks, 1955), there was a pressing need to establish a reliable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (4) When a population changes (either increases or decreases) for seemingly no reason, genetic drift is most often to blame. (1) Frequencies of alleles available in the gene pool for that population are subject to change when evolution takes place, and one or more alleles can sometimes vanish. Populations with fewer organisms often experience more substantial genetic drift, due to the fact that if there is less of an allele in a gene pool during a generation, there is a higher risk that a large amount of that allele will be removed just due to random chance genetic drift. (4) It is important to note that the final population during the frequent disasters trial became 243 from an original 4000 when one of the alleles ( a ) was lost. This is considered a population bottleneck (4) where the population decreased by a significant amount. In a situation like this, there are fewer alleles available in the gene pool of that population for that generation, so there is a bigger chance that genetic drift will accidently cause the loss of a substantial portion of one of the alleles, driving it to discontinuation. ...
