Presentation to the International Society of Knowledge Organisation (ISKO) at City University, London in November 2014. Looking at the impact of mobile devices on knowledge sharing and the design of systems
Gutenberg gave the world the modern printing press and with it the resulting explosion of texts that could be distributed to everyone. The last decade has witnessed the same phenomena with the convergence of technologies. For instance the smart phone now enables communication and knowledge exchange by anyone anywhere. The impact is only just being felt, however it is transforming the planet. The Gutenberg Impact.
Presentation from the SiS Catalyst and EUCU.NET Technucation conferernce at the University of Porto, 28th November to 1st December 2013. Workshop A - The Content.
I started my media/journalism career in 2011 with Al Jazeera's New Media team. Social media was seen as something 'peripheral,' not real journalism and not to be taken seriously. However since then, we've seen Facebook's Mark Zuckberg testify before the US Congress and Senate (and be summoned before the British Parliament), we've seen the rise of digital and with it a total shift in what social media and digital means for journalism. In this talk, I briefly discussed how the social landscape has evolved from 2011 to now, why you don't need to study journalism to be a journalist, why numbers are your best friend and what metrics matter.

Working Online Effectively and Securely - CIN workshop 2015Marco Campana
Online tools have an incredible impact on society and how we get and use information. But what do they really do? How can we use them? Should we be using them? Our clients, volunteers and leaders are often among the most sophisticated users of technology. They have expectations about being able to communicate with us quickly and easily. How do we reach out to them with information in ways they can use? Your use of the internet should be connected to the work you do every day. What does this actually look like?
This interactive session looked at emerging trends and demonstrating best practices for online information & service provision. Marco will demystify online communication and e-service delivery and help you take the next steps in making practical, daily use of the web in your community engagement, client service and public campaigns.
