As virtualization technology becomes pervasive there is a continuing demand to increase the performance of guest virtual machines. Many hardware virtualization techniques, such as nested paging and IOMMU, have already been developed to accelerate the guest virtual machines frequent operations in different areas. However, one area that has not yet been addressed is the handling of interrupts in a virtual machine environment.
This presentation talks about the design of AMD virtual interrupt controller (AVIC). The AVIC architecture addresses the overhead of interrupt processing in a virtualized environment by applying hardware acceleration to three major components of interrupt processing: 1) Delivery of interrupts directly from I/O devices to a guest operating system; 2) Interprocessor interrupts between the virtual CPUs in a guest; 3) Local APIC accesses by guest operating systems.

First series of my "Learning AOSP" workshop for Android Sydney Australia. The presentation talk about how to build AOSP for Nexus 7 (1st generation) - WiFi version
The IoT is becoming extremely popular keyword in the industries while there are many different interpretations or various definitions. However, one common requirement is that it requires many Sensor devices connected to Linux devices. The user space drivers for GPIO, I2C/SPI and UART sensors in the past were implemented separately from scratch delicately for each product. This will cause significant challenge of software engineering overhead while GPIO, I2C/SPI and UART sensors are dramatically increasing which have to be supported. The IoTDK is one of the library to provide portability of sensors' driver to solve the situation.
The talk will includes guide of IoTDK and 96Boards and tutorial of programing I2C and GPIO devices. Targeted audiences are who are interested in IoT sensors or who would like to move from Arduino and Raspberry Pi to modern ARM CPU effectively.
This presentation was delivered at LinuxCon Japan 2016 by Akira Tsukamoto.
Flutter provides an excellent way to build Android, iOS, web and desktop apps, but what about the back end services? Full stack Dart is all about using that investment in Dart programming to build the services used by applications, whether it's in the cloud or on the Internet of Things. This presentation will look at the tradeoffs between just in time (JIT) and ahead of time (AOT) compilation, Dart on Docker, the Functions Framework for Dart, Profiling and Performance Management. Choices of back end architecture (x86_64 vs Arm) will also be examined, along with some of the challenges this can present for Continuous Delivery.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
