This unit seeks to enable learners to understand the importance of taking accurate body measurement and also know how to take body measurement for accurate fit in sewing and pattern drafting.
What is lay planning?
Lay planning is the arrangement process of cutting room ,table space and labor. Perfect fabric spreading and cutting schedules are depends on the table length, type of equipment, spread length, spreading time, cutting time and personnel.
The cutting room manager must maintain the time; properly utilize the equipments, table space, and personnel also.
Why is lay planning important
To get a clear managing process of cutting room.
To reduce production cost
To save the fabric wastage.
To finish the cutting process in schedule time.
To achieve optimal efficiency.
To make the plan easy, computer software can be used.
Time consuming.

The fabric is folded in the lengthwise direction. The selvedges of both sides are placed one on top of the other and folded in the middle.
The fabric forms a fold at the centre. All folded patterns are placed along this fold. This fold is also used for different type of frocks, shirts and blouses.

How to have good Communications Skills?Introcanvas
Communication (from Latin "communis", meaning to share) is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writing, or behavior.

Policies and Procedures are the strategic link between the Company's Vision and its day-today operations.
It is important because well written policies & procedures allow employees to understand their roles and responsibilities within predefined limits.
Basically, policies & procedures allow management to guide operations without constant
Managing employees can be one of the most difficult aspects of running a business. Establishing policies and procedures and stating them in the employee manual may ease the burden. Clearly communicated standards may help to reduce employee complaints, absenteeism, and staff turnover. One of the purposes of a personnel policy and procedure manual is to address legal requirements such as equal opportunity employment.

Class 100 - Chain stitch
1.One of the simplest stitch types, the chain stitch has one or more needle threads and is formed by Intra looping.
2.This stitch is very Insecure and unravels easily if a stitch is broken or skipped or if the last loop is not fastened securely.
3.This stitch is used for sewing buttons and buttonholes, hemming, basting and pad stitching.
Class 200 - Rand Stitch
1.Generally formed by hand, the hand stitch is made with a needle that is passed from one side of the material to the other as a single line of thread.
2.The most important machine to duplicate this stitch is a pick stitching machine, which is used as a decorative detail on the other edges of jackets.
Straight Long Seams
The timekeeper starts the chronometer.
Pick Up the 20”x5” plaid plies, align them and place them under needle. Take reference to any straight line on the plaid fabric.
Start sewing by following the reference point and sew off at the end.
Turn the fabric by 180 degrees and position it under the needle taking a new reference point.
First try to sew straight with any number of bursts applicable to you and once you achieve this objective try to reduce the number of bursts.
Continue the process 4 as many time as possible using the same fabric.
At the end of this exercise you should be able to sew a long straight seam in a 1 or 2 bursts
Basic Skills-
To use Industrial machinery efficiently, you should be able to select and set a needle; adjust the stitch length regulator, pressure regulator, and knee lift; Identify balanced tension and adjust as needed; and select appropriate thread.
Circumference Measurement-
A - Bust - Measure the bust at the fullest part. Measure all around the body (total circumference).
B - Waist - Measure the waist where the body bends. It helps to bend side to side to identify exactly where to measure. You can put an elastic band around the waist to mark the correct placement.
C - Hip - Measure the hips at the fullest part, usually around the seat.
D - High Hip - Measure around the fullest part, about 3 - 4" below the waist. This is helpful when fitting a slim skirt or pants (to get an accurate idea of the shape of the hip, or the belly).
E - Front Waist Length - Start at the shoulder (right next to the base of the neck), and measure to the waist, measuring over the fullest part of the bust.
F - Back Waist Length - Measure from the base of the neck (in the center, not the side), to the center of the waistline.
G - Arm Length - Measure from the top of the arm (find the bone at the shoulder/top of arm) to the wrist (find the bone at the side of the wrist), WITH THE ELBOW BENT. It's important to keep the elbow bent to allow for movement when you make a sleeve.
BEFORE YOU LIFT
Plan Your Route: Path clear? Trip hazards removed? Dry?
Assess the Load: Too heavy? Can I use a hand truck or forklift? Can I slide it?
WHEN YOU LIFT
Lift It Right: Position your body close to the object. Keep your back straight.
Move It Right: Don't twist your back.
Lower It Right: When you put the load down, bend your knees not your waist.
GET HELP IF YOU NEED IT
Work Together: Don't be a hero. Communicate with your partner!
In this session we will learn the steps involved in fabric sewing techniques.
1.Sewing 6”x 6” Sewing off the material
2.Sewing 6”x 6” Staying Within Material
3.Sewing 6”x 6” back tack
4.Sew Over 3 Sides 6”x 12”
5.12 X 6 Top stitch
6.Backtack 6”x 1`2”
7.Baste 6” X 6” in Chain
By the end of this session we will be able to understand the different ways which are involved in the process of sewing a fabric. This presentation is ideal for those who are working as a trainers in the Skill India Campaign with Job Role as Sewing Machine Operator.
1. Universal Or Zigzag
This all-purpose presser foot is the default for most straight and zigzag stitching, and even many decorative stitches.
2. Zipper
Zipper feet allow you to stitch close to the zipper coils, helping to create a neat appearance and allowing proper zipper functioning.
3. Buttonhole
Buttonhole feet come in a variety of styles, but all help to create neat and uniform buttonholes on your garments. Those with a built-in memory allow you to repeat the same size quickly and easily.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
