The document discusses how the media product portrays certain social groups through its design choices. It targets middle class 17-25 year old females in the UK. To represent the middle class, it uses a basic design without being boring. Short, direct language and a simple but eye-catching layout signal the target class. Femininity is conveyed through feminine fonts, shots that show figures subtly, and soft language. The product aims to attract a range of ethnicities but currently only uses white British models.

How my media product represents particular social groups
1. How my media product represents
particular social groups
Middle class
17-25
female
2. Social Class
What I have conveyed and how;
• I am conveying middle class people on my magazine and I have done this
by;
• I have kept the mise en scene of the magazine basic and simple but not
boring or empty enough to be working class.
• I have used a simple shot choice so I can capture facial expression and
body language to portray the models feelings and show a more natural
side to them to let there class show through.
• I have used a lot of direct language which will also represent how middle
class want to be spoken too directly as as they know they have a higher
class rating than the working class however they are not a higher class as
the upper class who would want to be spoken up to.
• The layout of my magazine is eye catching but simple, its not overly
sophisticated which shows that it is aimed towards a lower class but the
classiness of the text and fonts shows its not as low as working class
therefore it must be middle class.
3. Age
What I have conveyed and how;
• I am hopefully conveying my target age of 17-25 on my magazine
and I have done this by;
• Using a simple but still quite colourful mise en scene as well as a
simple but eye catching layout with short simple sentences so
younger readers do not get bored as this age range is know for
being regular buyers of their favourite magazine so I want to make
it an easy magazine for them to skim through if they do not want to
sit and read it.
• My shot choice throughout the magazine is one which allows the
reader to simply look at the picture and see the emotion of the
models so they do not have to look into the picture a dn they are
also in a school type uniform so with a younger audience it makes
them relatable.
4. Gender
What I have conveyed and how;
• I am conveying females throughout my magazine and I have
done this by;
• Using feminine fonts and texts throughout my magazine
but without making it really girly
• I have used a shot choice witch shows off their figure but
without showing off a lot of their bodies which keeps it
sophisticated as well as making it very feminine as if you
show off too much skin it becomes almost trampy and
takes away from the femininity.
• I have used quite soft language which also adds to the
femininity of the magazine is it gives is quite a gentle feel
and means its not up in the readers face, and often gentility
is linked to females.
5. Ethnicity
• What I have conveyed and how;
• I have conveyed a white British ethnicity however
this is not to say that ethnicity is my target
audience as I am hoping to target a range of
ethnicities with my magazines.
• The models I have used are white British and this
is the reason I say that white British is the
ethnicity.
• The language obviously will make a difference as
only people who speak English will but my
magazine because it is written In English only.
6. Audience response
• I am hoping for a positive response from my
target audience however, it is unreasonable to
expect all responses to be positive and so due to
this I am hoping for some reasonable criticism to
help me make any last tweaks before releasing
another issue.
• The response I get from my focus group has been
mixed thorough the process but when I showed
them the final piece they all had a positive
response.
