The Government of India has set ambitious targets to increase solar power generation to help address climate change and promote renewable energy. The target is to have 100 GW of solar power by 2022, including 40 GW from solar rooftops. Several large solar parks have been approved to help achieve these targets by reducing costs. India is well-positioned for solar power due to its location and has seen rapid growth, having more than tripled its solar capacity since 2014. Individual citizens also have an important role to play through rooftop solar and energy efficiency.
