INTRODUCTION- SOLAR PHOTOVOLTIC ENERGY
The depletion of conventional resources on a worldwide basis has necessitated an urgent search for
alternative energy sources to meet up the present load demands. Solar energy is a clean, inexhaustible
and environment- friendly potential resource among all renewable energy sources. But in the present
scenario, there is a need of continuous supply of energy, which cannot be full filled alone by the grid.
Therefore, in order to meet the load demand and increase the power generation, solar and other
conventional conversion units are now being implemented as a Grid connected energy systems.
Photovoltaic offer the consumers the ability to generate electricity in a clean, quiet and reliable way.
Photovoltaic systems are comprised of photovoltaic cells, devices that converted light energy directly
into electricity. It is anticipated that photovoltaic systems will experience an enormous increase in the
decades to come. However, a successful integration of solar energy technologies into the existing
energy structure depends also on a detailed knowledge of the solar resource. But to note it is essential
to state the amount of literature on solar energy, the solar energy system and PV grid connected system
is enormous. Grid interconnection of photovoltaic (PV) power generation system has the advantage of
more effective utilization of generated power. However, the technical requirements from both the
utility power system grid side and the PV system side need to be satisfied to ensure the safety of the
PV installer and the reliability of the utility grid.
Every 15 minutes the amount of energy from the sun that strikes the EARTH is sufficient enough to
supply the energy requirement of the whole world for one year. To produce Green Energy from natural
resources and processes that are replenished constantly in its various forms which are considered to be
environment friendly, non-polluting and help reduce the impacts of conventional electricity generation
thus increasing the nation’s energy independence.
To make Solar Energy, a complementary clean alternative source of energy, Government of India
announced Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) last year. The mission is focused on the
promotion of Solar Energy at grass root level to Utility Scale Mega Projects. The entire mission is under
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy & in association of Ministry of Power & Energy. The progress of
the mission at every stage is over-viewed by Prime-Minister’s Office (PMO). This clearly indicates the
government’s commitment & seriousness towards Solar Energy development in India

O U R M I S S I O N - India, a rapidly growing economy with more than 1 billion people, is facing a
huge energy demand. The country stands fifth in the world in the production and consumption of
electricity. The electricity production has expanded over the years but we cannot deny the fact that the
population of the country is also expanding. The power produced in the country is mostly from coal
(53%) and it is predicted that country’s coal reserves won’t last beyond 2040-50. More than 72%
population living in villages and half of the villages remain without electricity. It’s high time that our
country should concentrate more on energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy. To meet this
surging demand, solar energy is the best form of energy to full fill the energy needs of India and bridge
the energy demand-supply gap.

SOLAR ENERGY IN INDIA
India has tremendous scope of generating solar energy. The geographical location of the country stands to
its benefit for generating solar energy. The reason being India is a tropical country and it receives solar
radiation almost throughout the year, which amounts to 3,000 hours of sunshine. This is equal to more
than 5,000 trillion kWh. Almost all parts of India receive 4-7 kWh of solar radiation per sq metres. This
is equivalent to 2,300–3,200 sunshine hours per year. States like New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar,
Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal have great
potential for tapping solar energy due to their location. Since majority of the population lives in rural
areas, there is much scope for solar energy being promoted in these areas. Use of solar energy can reduce
the use of firewood and dung cakes by rural household.
Solar power in India is a fast growing industry. As of 30 June 2017, the country's solar grid had a
cumulative capacity of 13.11 GW. India quadrupled its solar-generation capacity from 2,650 MW on 26
May 2014 to 12,289 MW on 31 March 2017
Advantages of Solar Energy in India
Some of the advantages of solar energy which makes it all the more suitable for India are as follows:
1. This is an inexhaustible source of energy and the best replacement to other non-renewable energies in
India.
2. Solar energy is environment friendly. When in use, it does not release CO2 and other gases which
pollute the air. Hence it is very suitable for India, India being one of the most polluted countries of the
world.
3. Solar power is inexhaustible. In energy deficient country like India, where power generation is costly,
solar energy is the best alternate means of power generation.
4. You don’t need a power or gas grid to get solar energy. A solar energy system can be installed
anywhere. Solar panels can be easily placed in houses. Hence, it is quite inexpensive compared to other
sources of energy.

In a solar plant, the efficiency and the profitability relies on both performance of its single parts but also

The procurement is broadly divided into 4 stages:

The scope of work usually includes:
 Designing of SPV plant and submission of drawings for client’s approval.
