This document discusses how the author's media product represents the social groups of young adults and teenagers who listen to hip-hop music. The images, layout, and language were chosen to appeal to this target audience. The product also divides audiences by age and gender, using images of younger hip-hop artists that would attract both male and female viewers. To represent the hip-hop social group, the author examined existing hip-hop magazines and included stereotypical aspects like the clothing worn by featured artists.
2. Social Groups
My media product represents the social group of young adults and
teenagers who listen to “hip-hop” music. I think I have achieved this
through the images, layout and language, by this I think I met all
aspects of a “hip-hop” magazine.
My media product also divides social groups between
their age and gender. An example for this is the images I
used throughout my product attract the same audience. If
I were to use an older artist that’s older than my target
audience, I wouldn’t have met my aim of targeting my
social group. I wanted to attract both genders because I
wanted to have a much wider audience to target.
In order to represent the social group “hip-hop”, I
looked at existing hip-hop products and noticed
that there was a stereotypical view on hip-hop
magazines; I tried to represent this through my
magazine through what my artist was wearing in
my images. In addition I looked at what my social
groups hobbies and interests are, so I tried to focus
this in my final product.
