The document discusses how the author's hip hop magazine product challenges and develops conventions of real hip hop magazines. It analyzes inspiration from magazines like XXL and KING to inform its masthead, images, and house style. While adopting common features like centering the masthead and using dark colors, it makes unique choices like a mid-shot facial image to emphasize emotion and adding gold to symbolize wealth. This adapts conventions to engage audiences with a realistic but distinctive magazine.

Media Question 1 presentation
1. Q1) In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. • My hip hop magazine that I have designed has
the appropriate features of what a real media
product would have as long as challenge and
develop the forms and conventions of the real
media products.
3. My Inspiration
• My inspiration of the Hip Hop magazine that I
have created was from the various other Hip
Hop magazine’s that I researched in order to
have an idea of how my Hip Hop magazine was
to be created which would therefore enhance
my magazine making it more appealing to the
audiences, the magazines that I gained
inspiration from are considered to be high
regarded and successful Hip Hop magazines
which would therefore aid me in looking for the
correct information.
5. • By analysing these Hip Hop magazines it
meant that I was able to gain an
understanding of how Hip Hop magazines are
and how I can develop and challenge the
forms and conventions as it means that I was
able to develop and challenge the media
conventions through the use of the
masthead, main image, house style.
6. Masthead
• The masthead that has been used in common Hip Hop
magazines such as ‘XXL’ is shown to be at the top of the front
cover starting from the left hand side and is also bold. I
developed this idea as although I put my masthead at the top
of the front cover and is bold, I decided to put it in a centred
position as I believe it would give more of an effect and stand
out more.
7. Main Image
• For the main image of my magazine front cover I developed my magazine main
image compared to other magazines as for the ‘KING’ magazine it shows a hip-hop
artist’s full body showing his stance and also his facial expressions and also it is
placed in the centre of the front cover but for my music magazine even though I
decided to put the image in the centre of my front cover I challenged the music
magazine as I decided to instead of having long shot, I decided to have a mid-shot
of my artist therefore expressing his facial expressions more which would reinforce
the stereotype more that rappers are intimidating as you see the full emotions in
his face.
8. House Style
• For my house style I used a similar house style compared to
the other Hip Hop magazines as they all consist of darker
colours such as black, red, dark blue etc. as I decided to use
the colours black and grey but I also challenged this by
including colours such as Gold to show the wealth of the artist
as they’re stereotypically known to be wealthy.
9. • I also have decided to include in my music
magazine the same features that a music
magazine would include such as a barcode in
the suitable place, a dateline, the price and a
suitable relatable hip-hop magazine article as
well into my own music magazine as this
would give it a realistic feel and be more
engaging to the audience reading the
magazine as they would see it is professional.
