Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

5. For the filming of artist performance in my music
video I used a Canon VIXIA HF M52 Full HD 10x
image stabilize camcorder and GE HZ15 Power
Pro Series 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 15X
Optical Zoom. These were easy and simple to
use because I already had knowledge of how to
use a standard camera/video camera in every
day to day life and more importantly it was mostly
familiar from last years AS work when I needed to
take photo's for my music magazine and be able
to use a camera effectively.
I experimented last year with different angles and
shot types during the planning stages by looking at
the types of different media texts, effective angles
and shot types in existing programmes, magazines
and music videos, for instance: merlin/Q
magazine/Gabrielle aplin - panic cord (this song in
particular as the genre for my music magazine at
AS was Indie and it shows good use of mise-en-
scene)

10. As Practice after choosing a genre (r&b/ pop) I
then attempted to replicate different shots from
other music videos in the same genre that
influenced me, I then made myself aware of
how to get the shot types on the schools
camera and my own. Furthermore, once I’d
thought of a concept for my music video it was
easy to film at different angles to suit the style of
music, for instance, I wanted it to show a lot of
emotion and intimacy between artist and
audience therefore, I used a lot of close-ups in
order for the audience to
empathise/sympathise with the performer in the
video and develop an individual relationship
with the artist. Here are the variety of shot types
I used in my video using the camera’s
effectively:
11.
12. Establishing shots of artist, location and performer-
introduces a location/artist/performer
13.
14.
15.
16. Before filming the footage for my main product,
during the planning and production stages I
decided to use the Canon VIXIA HFM52 FULL HD
10x image stabilize camcorder to take test footage
to make sure I was able to replicate the shots
successfully and if I had any trouble trying to
construct it I would know before hand and the
footage would be more effective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM57LRpBclo
17. I used a camlink TP2100
21mm 3 way camera tripod
during the planning and
production stages. I used a
tripod when creating the
test footage in order to
have the full knowledge of
how to use a tripod and
camera together well,
create the shot types and
variety of different angles.
18. I also, used a tripod during the production stages purely
for performance to make it look professional and
prevent it looking unsteady. I decided to use a tripod for
the artist performance because in R&B/ Pop video’s the
shots look steady, clear and fresh which is what I
needed to do in my video to make sure I conformed to
the forms and conventions of my chosen genre.
However, for narrative I chose not to use a tripod
because I planned for the concept to be very creepy,
sinister and upsetting therefore, I decided to film it
handheld to create this emotive feeling and
atmosphere. For instance when the little girl (molly) is
crying the unsteadiness of the footage adds to the
whole effect.
19. I used SD cards 8gb and 2gb in
order to record all the footage
and store it efficiently. I then
used an integral USB card
reader adapter SD SDHC SDXC
microsd single slot memory stick
in order to take the recorded
footage from the SD cards and
transfer it onto an apple imac.
These two types of hardware
were super easy to use because
again, I had used them
previously in my AS work and
consisted of limited effort to use.
20. I used an Epson V300
scanner during the
planning stages in
order to scan my
storyboards onto an
apple imac. I found
this easy to use
because I had used
it during the planning
stages for my AS
work last year when
planning my
magazine.
21.
22. I used a Toshiba laptop and Acer Aspire during the
production stages of the video, for instance: to play
back the music from you tube for the narrative to
help the performer get into the role of her character
as a lonely and depressed child
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-3BI9AspYc
I also, used these laptops to access word press at
home to complete my homework's 1 and 2 and to
complete extra work at home.
Furthermore, I used these two laptops to complete
the evaluation questions via Microsoft Power point
and accessed Google to convert Microsoft power
point to slide share. This technology was extremely
easy to use because, I’ve used it in everyday to day
life for other projects, homework and leisure time.
23. I used a 3 point light set up (back
light/key light/fill light) and green
screen for the production stages
of my music video for the filming
of artist performance. I decided
to use a 3 point light set up
because I felt the lighting made
a huge difference to the filming
and made the outcome more
effective. Moreover, using a
green screen it meant I could
change the whole of the
background to white too which
in contemporary R&B/Pop videos
is a current effect to use.
Furthermore, I also, used this
lighting and green screen set up
for the photography of my
album and advert.
24. The Apple Imac was the most
important part of the whole process of
planning, construction and research
because it was used in all stages. The
apple imac was used for all of the
software programmes e.g.
final cut pro X (apple) x 10.0.9 (video
editing)
Apple safari v 5.1.9 (web browser) -
research via internet
Apple photoshop CSS v 10.0 (digital
imaging)
Microsoft Power point v 14.1
(presentation)
wordpress- blogging
youtube -video hosting/searching
Slideshare
Facebook
25.
26. I used facebook during
the evaluation stages
of my work in order to
send individual private
messages to people
who were in my target
audience for my
complete music video
and asking them to
watch the video and
comment on either
YouTube or facebook
with constructive
criticism in order for me
to answer the
audience feedback
question:
27. I used YouTube during the
evaluation stages of my work in
order to receive constructive
criticism from individuals. I also,
used YouTube to upload my
finished media video product so
then I could embed it on wordpress
to be marked.
28. I used Microsoft power point v
14.1 (presentation) for the
evaluation stages of my work. I
decided to present my
answers via PowerPoint
presentation because I felt it
was great, I knew how to use it
and I was able to present it
artistically which I couldn’t get
the hang of when trying to
present my answers on Prezi.
Furthermore, it was extremely
easy to convert to slide share
and then I was able to embed
the source code into
wordpress to make the
evaluation posts.
29. I used Slideshare during the evaluation stages of my work in
order to convert my evaluation answers completed on
PowerPoint presentation to slideshare in order to easily
embed my presentation onto wordpress. This was an
extremely easy type of software to use because it only
consisted of creating an account and then uploading the
PowerPoint presentation and then slideshare did the rest for
you.
30. Safari was extremely important for the planning, research and evaluation
stages of my work because it enabled me to access wordpress which
was the blog I used predominantly for all my coursework therefore, it was
the most vital software.
Furthermore, It was also, important in accessing YouTube to upload my
finished product and to receive audience feed back. As well as
slideshare to convert my PowerPoint presentations to slideshare enabling
me to embed the presentation on wordpress.
Moreover, Facebook to receive audience feedback for my finished
music video. I found it extremely easy to use safari because I use it in
every day to day life for other A level subjects I am currently studying and
also, leisurely.
Safari was also, a very important software for the whole of my work
because, it enabled me to search for other media texts in my own genre
to help me firstly of come up with a genre but then also, think of a
concept and understand what forms and conventions are and what
Andrew Goodwin's 7 conventions are. I used safari in order to take
screenshots for the evaluation stages of my work too.
31. I used Wordpress to display
my work therefore, all the
research into forms,
conventions,mise-en-
scene, genre and the rest
of Andrew Goodwin's
conventions. Also, to
display my evaluations,
digipak and YouTube video
of my music video. I found
wordpress incredibly easy
to use as I had used it
previously to display all of
my AS work too.
32. Final cut was used in the creation of the music video. I
enjoyed using this type of software because it was a
new type of technology I had never heard of before,
encountered or used. I found it very challenging and
sometimes became aggravated, however, support
and help from teachers made it easier and I found the
more I used it, the more comfortable I felt and the
more I challenged myself. I learnt a lot about how to
make a video using Final cut software, for instance:
how to use markers to make sure the video is edited in
beat with the music,
how to edit clips and piece it together to form a
story/narrative
How to add effects to clips effectively without making
it look silly
How to edit the green screen background effectively
to make it match your type of genre e.g. I changed
the green screen to a bright white because that was
the type of backgrounds pop videos and sometimes
R&B videos used and linked to synergy.
33. I used Photoshop for
all of my digipak work
therefore, my CD
album
(front/back/middle)
and the Advert. I
found Photoshop
easy to use because I
needed to use it at
AS for all of my main
work e.g. Magazine.
Furthermore, I used
Photoshop to edit all
the photos I took
from the photo shoot
for the album and
advert that I used.
