2. Phones and Communication
As both of us have Iphones we used them to our advantage.. They
allowed us to message each other if we needed something e.g.
Equipment, or even up coming up with new ideas. Taking
pictures of locations we came across independently and
sending them to each other for opinions on potential locations
we could film at. Communication is and was vital in making our
Film opening, it sped up the process and allowed all of us to be
involved at once, and even how we would film if one of us
wasn't in school that day..
Our smart phones were also vital because I kept notes on mine
like how we should do a certain thing, people scripted lines,
the storyline. I did this because If we lost pieces of paper that
we needed it would be helpful to have had all the notes,
although the batteries did die a couple times because we was
filming for so long.

Creating our media project we used and learnt about different technologies which contributed to
the final product of our film trailer whilst editing. Such as

Music in a trailer is one of the most important things, it holds many conventions relating to the
thriller genre. Sound is used to create tension with eerie or intense music being played either
as diegetic or non-diegetic material within the scene. High pitched sound is often used as it
makes the spectator uncomfortable and shows how the scene might not be pleasant or
something unexpected might happen. Many other uses of sound are used in thrillers and even
within dialogue is usually unique to other genres as inner monologues or perhaps narrators
can be found in many thriller films which create a more direct tension to the spectator making
it seem as if they are experiencing the film from the characters point of view.

4. Motion : the application
Using the Apple Macs to create our media product we came across many different
applications we could use, We used Motion to create our institutional logos and
improve the lighting for our footage, Motion and Final Cut work hand in hand
where clips can be sent to motion through final cut and saved straight on to final
cut. On Motion we learnt how to input lights, move them around and make them
apply to our film opening through playing around with them and watching them
back. We also learnt how to create shapes, animate them, make them move and
apply effects through adding behaviours, motion paths, recording movement and
adding things from the library. We used it to add lights to intertitles and scenes of
the trailer which upon review and uploading looked different in final cut

5. Final Cut
Using final cut we were able to upload our footage to the programme and edit it
all together. As a group we picked up skills on how to use tools such as the cross
fade pen which we could fade audio as it is very effective in film trailers and
editing our clips into each other, e.g. if we wanted to show ‘time had passed’ or
fade out the audio in our film opening also speeding clips up or down by right
clicking them and setting a speed time. Our media project Learning to use final
cut will contribute to our skills of making media projects and speed up the
process in the future.Our skills from last years project meant that we could edit
quicker independently with more knowledge and skills from what we achieved
last time with feedback which we acted on

6. Audiotool
At first we attempted to use Audiotool an online copyright free music
tool which you can use in the browser, it allowed us to edit our track
anywhere/anytime with our login, the problem we faced was not
being able to record sound on the application and edit from there.
But we did learn how to use the online music kit, for future use, such as
 Loops
 Kicks
 Claps
 Machiniste
 Minimixer
 Synths

7. Garage Band
We used Garage Band to create our music
For our film opening, we learnt to use the instruments, for example the
different keyboards, we used the sound effects and looped them, the
ambient dark drone noise in the background. the tools allowed us to move
around the audio to where we wanted. We found the ambient noises on
there which really made a difference to our trailer, for example an eerie
sound over the intertitles adds suspense.

8. Live Type
We used live type to create our titles for our film opening which would come in and out,
but after making them and getting some feedback we realised we use use a different
programme making them look much better, installing fonts that the mac didn’t have,
adding light to them and making them move made them look so much better.
However I did learn how to use both programmes In live type I learnt how to use the
different effect for texts, sizing, colours, fonts and timing. This knowledge allowed us
to have our titles coming in fading which created mysterious titles to benefit us and
fit the genre of our film opening. Through Trail and error we had difficulties with the
framing between two different programmes, final cut and Livetype. The framing for
each programme was different and didn't fit together which made the titles look
pixelated. And also using live type it was difficult to use the framming settings and
took us time to figure out the frame settings to match those of the camera.
