globally significance
 Encourage sustainable livelihoods & development
through a holistic approach of ecology, economy, cultural
and social concerns.
 Empower NGOs as agents of change in natural resource
management for the building of dependent communities
& resilient societies
THE CHALLENGE

empower the Most Vulnerable Groups (MVGs) to achieve
the following;
 Build their capacity in climate change adaptation,
mitigation, technology & technology transfer
 Promote sustainable livelihoods & development
especially for rural communities
 Building communities’ capacities for natural resource
management and resilience
WHY NGOS’ CONTRIBUTION TO THE SDGS IS
IMPORTANT
 The Most Vulnerable Groups (MVGs) / NGOs play or can play
an essential role in the following;
 Institutions development within the areas of research,
natural resource management, climate change etc
 Establish Institutions / organizational concerned with capacity

establishment of eco-communities/ ecovillages.
WHAT IS NEEDED FOR NGOS’ EMPOWERMENT TO
ACHIEVE SUSTAINABILITY
 A platform through which NGOs can gain knowledge,
ideas, experience as a tool to achieve sustainability
 Participation of NGOs from grassroots (local) through
national and international levels to share their skills/
voices
 Promoting knowledge sharing and networking
opportunities at all levels
 Encourage the replication & scaling up of best practices
THE WAY FORWARD
 Establishment of the Women Environment and Climate Action
Network (WECAN) Initiative as powerful tool to ensure that women
play an active role in sustainable livelihoods/ development &
combating the negative effects of CC within their countries &
communities.
 Promote their roles as carers of the sick, family & community,
natural resource managers and home makers /community builders
is key to encourage environmental conservation & promote
sustainable development.
 Through effective environmental conservation & climate action,
women shall be able to alleviate poverty, combat cc, promote
sustainable livelihoods & build resilient communities
THE WAY FORWARD II
 NGOs can be primary educators for sustainability & can
ensure that their children start from a young age to live
sustainable lives & help conserve, protect, manage &
preserve their natural resources & total environment.
This has been achieved through the Green School
Program/Tunza Afrika Program (TAP) , Tanzania working
with children as agents of change
 Participation at the International Women Earth and
Climate Initiative (IWECI) Summit, New York, 20-23 Sept
2013 (www.iweci.org)
THE WAY FORWARD III
 The First Ladies Action on Climate Change (FLACC) Africa
Initiative works in collaboration with African First Ladies
at all levels to raise the awareness of women and climate
change in Africa and become powerful agent of change in
the transition from the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs) to the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs)
 South-South Technology Transfer Program (SSTTP)
 Tunza Afrika Program (TAP)
