House Bill 5 reduces the number of end-of-course exams required for Texas high school students to graduate. It allows students greater flexibility to choose their courses while maintaining academic rigor. Students will earn a diploma in one of five endorsement areas like STEM, arts and humanities, or public services. The bill removes some testing requirements and gives students more choice over their educational path aligned with their interests.

The 20% Solution: Selective Colleges Can Afford to Admit More Pell Grant Recipients finds that if every college was required to have at least 20 percent Pell Grant recipients, nearly 79,000 more Pell students would have to be admitted to 349 colleges and universities, half of which are selective colleges. Some selective colleges have suggested that Pell Grant recipients do not gain admittance because they would not be able to keep up with the workload. However, the Georgetown Center report finds that 78 percent of Pell recipients who attend selective colleges and universities graduate, while their chances to complete diminish to 53 percent at open-access colleges.

One of the K”“12 curriculums primary objectives is to provide learners ample time to adjust and acquire the abilities for the desired exit. The learners are expected to move on to middle level skill development, entrepreneurship, or college. Yet, concerns are raised about the curriculum offering the instructions needed to help learners build the skills necessary to be successful in their chosen careers. With an initial evaluation, this study seeks to ascertain the level of readiness of the Don Andres Soriano National High School Senior High School Grade 12 learners for the school year 2022 2023 to pursue the various Senior High School exits. A comparative descriptive research design was used for this quantitative study of 227 randomly chosen Grade 12 margin of error of 0.05 . Scaling and multiple choice questionnaires similar to those used on college entrance exams were the two types of questionnaires used in this study. Results indicated that the majority of learner respondents wanted to continue their education after high school. Also, statistics revealed that competency learners primarily excelled in independent learning. Ironically, the self manage ability is the one that needs the most development in order to move on to college. The null hypothesis is rejected since only 56.64 of learner respondents chose to pursue higher education and passed the college exam. The learners are not prepared to proceed on their chosen senior high school exit. Thus, this survey found that learners are still not prepared to move on to their preferred senior high school exit. It implies that more training and learning reinforcement may be deemed necessary to further improve Senior High School learners. Gica M. Tugbong | Kent Lancer C. Alistre | Gerald A. The Morrill Land-Grant Acts had the most significant positive impact on students' access to higher education. This is because this act made it possible for the new states in the west to put up colleges for their students. The institutions that were established gave a chance to a lot of farmers and other working-class people who could not previously access higher education. Since the land was the most readily available resource, it was given for these states to establish colleges. According to Christy (2017), even though some individuals misused the earnings from those lands, the Morrill land-grant Act gave the foundation of a national system of state colleges and universities. Finances from the lands even helped existing institutions, helped build new institutions, and other states were able to charter new schools.
Grutter v. Bollinger & Gratz v. Bollinger had the most influence in shaping how higher education institutions recruit and retain students from diverse backgrounds. This is because this ruling recognizes the benefits of diversity in education and validates any reasonable means which can be used to achieve that diversity. The verdict is even supported by a lot of studies which show that student body diversity promotes learning outcomes, and 'better prepares students for an increasingly diverse workforce and society…'" (The Civil Rights Project, 2010). Grutter vs. Bollinger laid a foundation for the diversity we see today in universities and colleges. Garces (2012) asserts that in our current world, which is diverse, access to higher education is what determines our legitimacy and strength. This all has been made possible by the Grutter v. Bollinger & Gratz v. Bollinger. The ruling helped break down stereotypes and for students to understand others from different races.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Editor's Notes
House Bill 5 was signed into legislature on June 10th by Governor Rick Perry (The Texas Tribune, 2013). House Bill 5 impacts a number of areas in Texas Education including curriculum, accountability, assessment, and accreditation. The most notable changes are state testing requirements, graduation planning, and the requirements for high school graduation.
The reduction of high school testing requirements went into effect during the 2013-14 school year. The new graduation plans and changes to credit requirements go into effect with the freshman class of 2014-15.
English I, English II, Algebra I, U.S. history and biology EOCs are required. The state no longer requires students to pass the STAAR in the areas of chemistry, physics, geometry, world history, world geography, Algebra II and English II end-of-course tests to graduate. The bill also removed the requirement on districts to include the end-of-course test scores as fifteen percent of course grades (Texas Education Agency, 2014). Students who do not pass one or more of the EOC tests that are no longer required do not have to retest. A student who fails any of the required assessments are required to retest. EOC retests will be administered three times throughout the year in December, Spring and July.

Students will earn a Foundation High School Program Diploma and declare an endorsement area. While the Texas Education Agency and the State Board of Education are still working on transition and implementation of House Bill 5, the 2014- 2015 school year marked the beginning go the Foundation High School Program (Texas Education Agency, 2014). This allows students as ninth graders to indicate the endorsement they plan to receive in writing with the flexibility to change the endorsement at any time. Students can choose endorsements in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Business and Industry, Public Services, Arts and Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Each school district must provide high school students with the courses that allow students to complete the curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement.
I have been part of the Capstone Committee for my school district as we move forward with HB5. My department has spearheaded the implementation of ePortfolios to document students progress with endorsements.
The audience of this presentation is teachers and staff members in my district. It acts as a resource to define our districts response to HB5 and the direction the district with take moving forward.
