By Sophie Ciurlionis Homework should NOT be compulsory in Primary School.
Homework are tasks that a teacher sets up for students to do at home. There are a variety of tasks e.g. Reading, Maths and Assignments. Here are three reasons why homework should NOT be compulsory in Primary Schools.
Firstly, homework tears students social lives apart and stops them from getting fit. Instead of doing boring, old homework, students could be doing more physical things like hockey or cricket. If a student does homework, he or she will most likely be on the couch or at a desk and this doesn’t help their fitness levels. By doing sport, students will be getting fit, but when they’re doing homework they aren’t exercising so they will become obesse. Also if students are doing homework they will not be able to hang out with their friends and this is vital for their personal growth.
Secondly, homework is sometimes completed be the parents when it gets too hard for the students. If homework gets too hard, some students can’t do it without help. If this happens, the parents have to do it, then it’s not the students work. Then when the students turn their homework in, the teachers, who are very smart, would automatically know it’s too well written, and so the students would then get in trouble, and that is not a good thing .
Lastly, homework doesn’t help the environment as it wastes paper and ink. When students do homework, that is a whole lot of ink and paper going to waste. So it’s best to have happy students and a happy environment. Homework is pointless as we have already learnt the set tasks at school.
I strongly believe homework shouldn’t be compulsory in Primary school because it tears apart students social lives, is sometimes completed by the parents when it gets too hard and it doesn’t help the environment, as it wastes paper and ink.
