• Italian inventor, who proved the
feasibility of radio communication.
• sent and received his first radio signal
in Italy in 1895. In 1899, he flashed the
first wireless signal across the English
Channel
• two years later received the letter "S,"
which was telegraphed from England to
Newfoundland (now part of Canada)
• was the first successful transatlantic
radiotelegraph message

EXPERIMENTATION
During World War I, the government
used radio for defense.
• Radio was being useful back then
• In Pittsburg, a Westinghouse Corporation
engineer, named Frank Conrad has been
allowed by the government to be on the radio
during the war to develop the de Forest
vacuum tube into a transmitter that they had
for the war.

• Radio stations played in three minute
song
• Programming and music was being
targeted at a specific age group
• 1963, AM station began sounding
tired, The Beatles and The Rolling
Stones arrived to influence the music
scene
• FM came back and overtook AM.
• Pop music becomes better
• AM did not pay music from newer
albums so FM overtook AM quickly
because they would play the new
music.

• AM tried to challenge FM
by going stereo but
nobody cared.
• Big music stations were
making lots of money
• People love listening to
the radio
• Advertisers want to buy
radio and there is Disco
music on FM.

removed federal
regulations for radio.
• Radio companies
shutting down facing
new challenges as
well as losing money.
