Neil Shubin Your Inner Fish Summary
The book Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin is a journey into 3.5 billion year history of the human
body. The book is an entertaining and useful novel that demonstrates the evolution of some of our
major structures through time. By analyzing fossils and DNA, the author shows us that our
hands truly resemble fish fins, our head is organized like that of a long extinct jawless fish, and
that major parts of our genome look and function like those of worms and bacteria. The book
takes us on a remarkable expedition in which it will show us our inner fish, reptile and monkey.
The author of Your Inner Fish, Neil Shubin, discovered a missing link , a fossil he called Tiktaalik.
Tiktaalik shows features that connect the evolutionary gap between fishes and land living animals.
Shubin demonstrates in the first four chapters how different branches of science prove that many
organs within numerous creatures, ancient or living, are deeply related. For the following chapters
he discusses the resemblances between the designs of bodies, skulls, hands, eyes and ears
belonging to most of the beings of the animal kingdom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Content Analysis and Ethnographic Research in Decoding...
In recent years there have been a number of studies regarding how children perceive friendship
(Brownlow, 2012). Children may have different understandings of what friendship means to them
depending on their age or where they live. Two methods used in this field are content analysis and
ethnology. This essay will illustrate the similarities and differences between the two methods
through the work of two groups of researchers. Content analysis was used by Brian Bigelow and
John La Gaipa, and ethnographic researchwas carried out by William Corsaro. The essay will show
that although the researchers worked in the same area of study with some similarity in their
approach, they produced contrasting data that was therefore analysed... Show more content on

Prior to commencing their research, Bigelow and La Gaipa and Corsaro needed to decide who
the participants would be. They wanted to know what children s personal views were, so a
common factor for both types of research was that those taking part were all children. Bigelow
and La Gaipa chose a large sample of children aged 6 to 14 years old (Brownlow, 2012). They all
resided in the same city in Canada and came from a similar or identical social group. There were
480 participants all together chosen from eight schools, with thirty girls and thirty boys from
each. The age range was a significant factor to them because they wanted to study how children
understood friendship at different ages and stages of their life. Using such a large number of
children in their study meant that they could make generalisations about children s friendships
and how they develop over time. This data could then be applied to children as a whole. Corsaro
chose his participants differently. The children that took part in his studies were about three years
old (Brownlow, 2012). In addition, unlike Bigelow and La Gaipa, Corasro did not limit his
research to one city, or even one country. He wanted to know what friendship meant for children at
different times and in different places. Therefore, Corsaro studied children in different countries
including, the United States and Italy (Interview with William Corsaro, 2010). By

Manzana Insurance Company
Case:
Manzana Insurance Fruitvale Branch (Abridged)
Harvard Business School
Executive Summary
Fruitvale s core management problem is the low performance due to an unacceptable long
turnaround times (TAT). Especially because of the late Renewals many of FruitvaleВ
ґs customers
are turning to its major competitor Golden Gate. The operating performance needs to be improved
by eradicating the bottleneck in Underwriting. This will be achieved by restructuring and
simplifying the process. Through our solution we are going to achieve a new TAT of 0,518 days

average all daily incoming insurance requests will be processed in an extremely ... Show more

An UT will therefore underwrite two requests. After underwriting both each team member will
rate one of the two requests. It is important that the DCs distribute similar requests in terms of
rating time to one certain UT. Due to the fusion of step two and three 25% (time savings in
writing and getting into the case) or more of rating time will be saved. In order to stay within a
save margin we reduced the weighted average rating time by 25% and added this to the
weighted average time of underwriting. We divided the weighting time of the first request lying
on the desk while the second is being processed on both requests. In average 12 requests will be
processed by the UTs every 109.6 minutes. Every 54.8 minutes (109.6/2 min) 6 requests can be
processed by the policy writing department. Hence the average service rate in step two and three is
the same. This would also increase productivity by decreasing queuing time.
Including all these changes our calculations lead to a TAT of 3:53 hours (see Apendix)
We will not set priorities on certain products (RUNs, RERUNs, RAPs, RAINs). We will rather
implement FIFO for all products, independent of the profit generated. In order to motivate the
employees to do so Salary/Plus can set incentives by rewarding an increase of the weighted
average time needed to process a request. This is also a very fair solution with regard to the clients.

The Golden State Of Mind Is Dried And Cracked
The Golden State of Mind is Dried And Cracked
It s hard to imagine what life would be like without easily accessible and plentiful water. Humans
use water in many different ways for a number of important reasons, so the current drought that s
taking place in California is a big deal. Last year, during an outdoor speech, California governor
Jerry Brown made this statement: Today we are standing on dry grass where there should be five
feet of snow. This historic drought demands unprecedented action, therefore, I m issuing an
executive order mandating substantial water reductions across our state . California is home to 27
million acres of farmland and 38 million people, so this problem is widespread and could be
devastating nationwide. Everyone from farmers in somewhat rural areas, to residents in the middle
of huge cities feel the repercussions of the drought. The issue at hand is very complex and
multidimensional, but can be thoroughly explained by answering these key questions:
What is happening?
Why is this important?
What is being done to solve this issue?
What can still be done to solve this issue? The drought is a huge problem that won t go away
without certain changes, so understanding the various aspects of California s current drought is the
only way to fix what could be a catastrophe for the entire nation.

Persuasive Essay On Free Contraceptives
Free Contraception Whether contraceptives should be provided at no charge is a huge debate in
the United States. Controversy emerge red through this causing millions to take a stand. The use
of contraception has a very important role in the lives of women and their partners. In an action
to have all forms of contraception be free the number of unwanted pregnancies, abortions, health
issues, and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases would decrease. A women s health is
affected by contraception. In a study done by Health Line a woman s digestive, integumentary,
cardiovascular, central nervous, and reproductive systems are greatly altered by the use of these
products. In fact, they can even be used to help treat other health concerns such as menstrual
relief, skin changes, and more (Health Link). With the use of contraception their bodies are able
to benefit and be modified. It is not only a way women use to be relieved of pain but to improve
their skin. Another prevented cause of contraception is the decline in spread of std s. By using
protection and contraceptives there is a more difficult process to spread the diseases. It is
important to keep in mind that the best method for an individual and her or his partner depends on
which method the couple will use consistently and properly (Peer Health). It is important to gain

The Jungle Book Analysis
Look for the bare necessities the simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your
strife... (The Bare Necessities, Bill Murray and Neel Sethi)
Sounds familiar? It s the song The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book. The Jungle Book
(2016) is about Mowgli, a young boy who was raised by a family of wolves since he was born.
Mowgli must leave the jungle his only home, when a vicious tiger Shere Khan wants him dead.
Accompanied by a wise panther Bagheera and a free spirited bear Baloo, the journey to a new
home begins. Along the way, Mowgli meets a variety of jungle animals that teach him important
life lessons. The Jungle Book uses the male bonding and animal archetypes to support and reject
the male gender myth by presenting Mowgli learning important life lessons from the animals and
his journey of self discovery that leads to a wild adventure.
An archetype is a pattern or character types that films used repeatedly to deliver a subconscious
message. The Jungle Book has two main archetypes of animal and male bonding. Although The
Jungle Book uses all the jungle animals, the animal archetype is seen through and mainly focuses
on the wolves (Akela and Raksha), the panther (Bagheera), the bear (Baloo), the tiger (Shere Khan)
and the Gigantopithecus (King Louie). In Creating the Myth , Seger states, Many myths contain
animal archetypes that can be positive or negative figures (393). In the film, one will see Akela,
Bagheera and Baloo as positive figures/animals who protect and want the best for Mowgli. Shere
Khan is the negative figure/animal who is seeking revenge on Mowgli. The male bonding
archetype can be seen through Mowgli bonding with Bagheera, Baloo and Akela as they teach him
important life lessons throughout the film.
Cultural myths (mythologies) are a set of stories and beliefs that characterizes a culture. For
example, the male gender myth is defined by the American culture as a man who is physically
/mentally strong, powerful, protector, provider/head of the household, educated, independent,
confident, and responsible. The Jungle Book shows the male gender myth by having much of male
jungle animals than female. The characters that support the male gender myth are Akela, Bagheera,

Food Pantry Case Study
Michelle Woolley Sauter is the lead designer and owner of One Coast Design Corporation now
based in Summerville, South Carolina just outside Charleston. Since 1995 Michelle has been
giving back to charities close to her heart. Through her efforts of philanthropy during her 28
years in the State of Florida, she worked in conjunction with local and regional non profit task
forces dealing directly with hunger and homelessness of displaced children throughout South
Florida and the islands of the Caribbean. Michelle launched a Food Pantry within the Safe House
and offices of Children s Home Society, the largest counseling facility and adoption agency in
the state of Florida. This was a pivotal and extremely influential move as now case workers
going out to make site visits were able to identify situations where the only issue for these
families was being under resourced. Because needs are usually delayed due to processing
constraints, many families could go without immediately needed resources such as food and baby
items for days. The setting up of an organized Pantry would be a stop gap measure and needed

Looking at more numbers, it becomes clear that companies need to find a better way to cut
down on the costs associated with the traditional hiring process. To save some money in the
process of hiring, every company need to follow some key ways like develop the employee
referral program, turn their career site into a talent community and mash able job board listings.
Here are the few reasons for hiring a good and dedicated team: Facilitates better communication.
Motivates employees. Promotes creativity. Develops problem solving skills. Breaks the barrier.
2. Required resources: Most of the companies are eager to engage in testing, but if they don t
have their proper resources which is one of the fastest ways to see the program to fail. Even
though the team have some good ideas, they cannot rectify the errors and execute them without the
proper required resources. So, maintain the required resources which are needed to test or
complete the project. 3. Prioritize the errors: In every project, during the analysis or development
phase there are some defects. To save the time and money, first list out the highest priority defects
because when the team resolve the prioritized errors most of the errors are resolved and the output
will be good. 4. Documentation: Every project needs documentation. Proper documentation is the
only key thing that can make it possible and makes testing more accurate in

Why Was Ancient Greek Culture Important
The Importance of Ancient Greek Culture
The ancient Greeks were unquestionably a gargantuan reason that today s civilizations are
remarkably developed. Their ideas have affected multiple generations. In many ways too. For
example their political, religious, and economic structures have all altered the United States and
even the world. These three aspects are just a few instances of the importance of Ancient Greece.
These, however, are the main reasons that Ancient Greecewas so esteemed.
One aspect of culture that was essential in ancient Greece was politics. Before most of ancient
Greece had a democratic or oligarchical type of government, most of them were monarchies; in
other words, they were governments controlled by kings. The ... Show more content on

This is displayed in Sophocles s play where the text reads: You know your orders: take her to the
vault and leave her alone there. And if she lives or dies, that s her affair, not ours: our hands are

the gods to let her live. She was left in a vault where she had no contact with anybody. While
some Greeks did believe in the gods to a great extent, there is also evidence that most of them did
not. Many of Greeks did not regularly pray to the gods. This is proven in the quote: ...it is easy
to overlook the fact that most Greeks believed in their gods in roughly the modern sense of the
term and that they prayed in a time of crisis not merely to the relevant deity... . This evinces that it
was only crucial to pray when there was a crisis or vital problem. Obviously, it is clear to see that
religion was important to the Greeks, but another aspect that was important was the economy.
Finally, the economic aspect of ancient Greece was important to the Greek culture. If a Greek had
more wealth, it would display that they had more authority and power than other poorer citizens.
Sophocles 441 B.C. play Antigone explains, however, in the quote, ...the wisest have sometimes
been known to count a few coins too many. Creon contrastingly expresses his idea of wealth. He
clarifies that the economic system is imperfect and should be improved. He basically explains that

African Americans And African American Community
As seen through time, African Americans have been at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing
funds that are available to most people. This however has not stopped them from creating and
accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans
have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors
that have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are
currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about.
Throughout each decade there have been forms of aid created solely for African Americans. Before
slavery, when African Americans were still in Africa, the communities were thriving economically
and socially. Africa produced a plethora of advanced civilizations. Although Europeans like to credit
themselves for the spread of Christianity, Christianity was in Ethiopia long before the Europeans
came. As one can see through time, church is an important communal and distinctive quality of the
African Americancommunity. In his book, West African Religion: A Study of the Beliefs and
Practices of Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Ibo, and Kindred Peoples, Geoffrey Parrinder explains, Africa had
a history, long before the Europeans came to our shores... Religion is a fundamental, perhaps the
most important, influence in the life of most Africans (Parrinder 1). African Americans already had

Abuse in Foster Care Essay
About two thirds of children admitted to public care have experienced abuse and neglect, and
many have potentially been exposed to domestic violence, parental mental illness and substance
abuse (Dregan and Gulliford). These children are being placed into foster care so that they can
get away from home abuse, not so they can move closer towards it. The foster children s varied
outcomes of what their adult lives are is because of the different experiences they grew up with in
their foster homes. The one third of those other foster children usually has a better outcome in adult

The Purpose Of Art And Its Felicity
Joseph Anton Koch The purpose of art and its felicity lies both in its aesthetic quality as well is the
instructive capacity of art, wherein the various perspectives employed by artist s help to understand
the particular period in which the work was created and the influences that may have attributed to
the final product. The early 19th centuryin Europe was marked by a desire to return to the
classicism of the Greek and Roman empires as it connoted a sense of stability after the upheaval
of the French revolution which had brought down existing social, political and economic structures
to an end. The work ofJoseph Anton Koch, a German painter who chose to live in Rome and
imbibe the traditions of the classicists shows in his work a clear attachment to the values of linear
composition and idyllic subject matter and this is clearly apparent in his monumental workHeroic
Landscape with Rainbow, now a part of the European gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in
New York City. This work is an apt illustration of the manner in which the neoclassical tradition of
landscape paintingbecame an important part of the works of European painters of the early 19th
century as a means of portraying the kind of society which people aspired to after the upheavals of
the late 18th century. The heroic landscape as a painting genre had achieved great popularity in the

Why God Was Flawed
God chose to use nations who sinned, had weaknesses, and were flawed to accomplish His
purpose. He chose Israel among all the nations of the world to work with. God chose Israel to be
a kingdom of priest and a holy nation. In Exodus 19:5 6 God proclaimed to Moses to tell the
Israelites: Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured
possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, but you shall be for me a
priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites.
Throughout the Bible God has used men and women who were imperfect or flawed to also
accomplish His purpose. These ancient people of Israel went into captivity because they had
sinned and were flawed but through it all God wanted other nations to see that when the Israelites
obeyed God, they were blessed but when they disobeyed God they would be punished. Like the
Israel and the people from within, we too have sinned but through it all and despite our
imperfections God uses us for His glory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

virtually anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and
secondary consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social
structure relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal
behaviors. Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach
adolescence, at which time they leave), or an individual. They are notorious carriers of disease, can
outcompete native species, and can be quite aggressive when confronted by humans. For these
reasons and more, the urban raccoonis considered a pest, and in many areas there have been
countless efforts to control their populations (Gehrt, S. D., et. al., 2010, Pg. 35 47). This paper
will propose actions that would need to be taken in order to deter raccoons from pursuing human
waste as a food source in the effort of controlling their population.
Due to the raccoon s opportunistic nature, overtime the species have found

Conflict Of Styles In Watership Down By Richard Adams
Conflict of Styles The success of any group is determined by those who lead it. In Watership
Down by Richard Adams, a band of rabbits leave their warren when one of them feels that
danger is coming. They encounter several struggles before they settle down and create the
Watership warren. An attempt to extract does from another warren called Efrafa starts a rivalry
between the two groups, lead by Hazel and General Woundwort respectively. Hazel and
Woundwort are two vastly different leaders. Hazel and Woundwort become leaders in different
ways. After meeting Kehaar, the Watership rabbits discuss the future of the warren, and they
realize that they need does. Hazel then proposes that Kehaar can fly and find a nearby warren
they can take does from. All of the rabbits accept Hazel s idea, as they have come to consider him
their leader. He was simply the one as a Chief Rabbit ought to be, (188). Hazel s natural rise to
power shows how his rabbits view him. They all respect him and naturally see him as an
authoritative figure. He is also a capable leader, as he can use each rabbit in a way that they can
benefit the group. Woundwort s rise to power, however, required force. At Efrafa, the story of
General Woundwort is told. After he loses his family, a young Woundwort finds and joins a
warren. Soon he had become Chief Rabbit, having killed both the previous Chief and a rival
named Fiorin, (304). Woundwort s violence in rising to power carries over to when he is in power.

What Are the Challenges That Face a Psychotherapist...
What are the challenges that face a psychotherapist working with self harm or eating disorders.
She cuts herself. Never too deep, never enough to die. But enough to feel the pain. Enough to feel

This perhaps would be something that could be worked on in therapy. It was also suggested that
some people self harm as a way of communicating or expressing things they cannot speak. It is
suggested when self abuse is used in this mannor it is considered manipulative an attempt at
getting a need met or to influence another. If this is the case it is important for the therapist to
listen to what that need is and to help the individual satisfy that need in a constructive and
effective manner I imagine the therapists first challenge when presented with an individual who
self harms is creating a space where the client can trust the therapist. I can imagine an individual
who self harms will carry a large level of guilt and shame at the behaviour and it is as always
vital to move at a pace the client is comfortable with. If I am aware of marks or cuts before the
client has disclosed to me I will wait until the client feels safe or I feel is ready to talk about the
behaviour. Often the client will not have appropriate support systems for whatever reason which
puts them in a very vulnerable position. I would never suggest a no self harm contract as I feel
that would create too much pressure. It is important to remember that the behaviour is the adapted
coping strategy for this individual and on some level it provides some release or comfort and the

Good And Evil In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
It is an important life question that everyone has asked throughout humanity: are human born
good or evil? It has been repeatedly asked and for years people have debated whether we have a
good nature or an evil one. In my opinion, I believe human nature causes people to be bad and
require the need to be controlled. This question can be seen in William Golding s Lord of the Flies
and it can be speculated that Golding viewed human nature as an evilone. Throughout the book and
humanity, there are several clues that can lead us to the answer. It is evident in every part of the
world; there is evil. From the six million Jews that have been executed in World War II, to the
thousands of African people used as slaves, and to every schoolyard bully.... Show more content on

In our society, people at a young age are taught and forced to be good to one another. As you can
see babies and younger children are self centered and misbehave frequently. Kids often believe
things must go their way and can be cruel bullies to one another. During kindergarten and early
years of elementary school, children can be seen fighting for toys. However, our teachers and
parents taught us that if we misbehave, we will be punished. If we were naturally born good,
wouldn t we be able to act good naturally? In Lord of the flies, the boys arrived on the island well
behaved and stated they will survive because they are English. However, their set of rules were
not obeyed and slowly the boys stopped following the laws of civilization. The boys ranged from
ages 5 to 12 years old, thus the younger children were easily capable of becoming savage as they
were not taught how to be courteous. As well, the younger boys did not know what they were
doing was wrong. The children were exposed to violent manners from the older boys and quickly
developed to behave like them. As evident in the final scene of Lord of the Flies, one of the littlun

Victorian Era Research Paper
The Victorian Era started with Queen Victoria s rule from June 20, 1837 to her death on January
22, 1901.
The Victorian Era primarily describes a period of English history, where Britain saw a rise in
industrialization, growth in the economy, growth of the middle class, growth of a large population,
and a large scale expansion of imperial power.
The society was extremely conservative and patriarchal. There was an idea called the Cult of
Domesticity that believed that a woman s identity should consist of piety, purity, domesticity, and
submissiveness.
However, this era saw the birth and rise of political and social movements such as socialism,
liberalism, and organized feminism.
Because of the rapid changes that occurred during the Victorian Era, it brought out rapid changes in
literature.
The most popular topics for Victorian Era novels were industrialization, class, science vs. religion,
progress, utilitarianism, the role of women in society, and how to live an ideal life.
This era also saw an increase of works in a large variety of subjects such as scientific works,
philosophy, nature writing, and Gothic tales.
Early Victorian works, emphasized the notion of what is English or what constitutes an Englishman
. This is mostly due to how conservative the society was. Later Victorian works rebelled against
these ideas.
The novel became the most popular form of literature during the Victorian Era. Many of them were
originally serialized.
Many novels during this era helped develop our current popular genres such as fantasy and science
fiction.
There was a rise in female novelists, but they went under male pseudonyms because of how male
patriarchal the society was and female writers were often shunned.
The most popular writer of this time was Charles Dickens.
The Bronte sisters wrote many significant works, but they were not appreciated by Victorian critics.
Others famous writers include:
William Thackeray, who wrote Vanity Fair
Thomas Hardy, who wrote Far from the Madding Crowd
Oscar Wilde, who wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray
George Eliot (Mary Anne Evans), who wrote Middlemarch
Charles Dickens was the most famous Victorian novelist.
He did not get a formal education and had a poor

Presently, the sound shuttle is trying to make energizing new disclosures in a second amplified

Systematic Economic Change and Poverty Reduction: The Effects of Governance on Inequality
Liberalization is a term that has dominated the minds, and governments of Latin America from the
advent of the region encompassing debt crisis of the 1980s. Many reforms, with the idea of
opening up the market and reducing barriers to trade in order to increase growth, control inflation,
and reduce social unrest, have taken hold in the region in notable countries such as Mexico. In,
Programs on Poverty and Inequality: Chile, Mexico, and Peru, John Sheahan explores the
reasons as to why liberalization programs have seemingly worked in some countries, and have
had lackluster effects in others. Chile, for example, is often cited as the shining beacon of
economic example in Latin America, and is also grouped in with the East Asian economies that
developed to the level of Western Europe from the 1980s onwards. Conversely, Mexico has had
disappointing growth that has never recovered to pre 1980s levels, along with social unrest and
failures in governance. This paper will explore the questions: Why does poverty persist so much
in some countries in the region e.g. Mexico, and Peru to a lesser extent, and why does it seem
effectively controlled in other parts, such as in Chile? Sheahan argues that direct social programs
are increasing in popularity as effective forms of controlling the negative effects of liberalization
reforms, but that they

The Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a key point in The United States of America s history that without it,
the country as we know it would be completely different. The Louisiana Purchase may have been
a controversial decision, but it was a good on that put America on track to becoming a superpower.
Almost half of America was included in the Purchase and the rest on the west coast is separated by
the land included in the Purchase. So, if the purchase had never happened America would still be
confined to only the east coast that borders the Atlantic and we d be a much smaller country.
However, since the Louisiana Purchasedid happen, the country spans from both the west and east
coast. The Louisiana Purchase is the treaty that lead America to be one of the three largest
countries in the world. Along with the land came the things that are within nature and can only be
created by nature which are natural resources. Included in the Purchase made between Jefferson
and Napoleon was everything on and in the ground, that was bought. This means that all of the
gold, oil, wood, and any other useful resources that could be found on the land was included in
the deal. America was then opened up to many more riches to help their economy. This could also
comprise of the new land that could be used for farming of many different plants and foods. So,
not only did the territory grow so did the wealth in natural resources.

Dumb Drivers At age 16, I have only been driving for 15 months, and I have only been licensed
for six of those few months. That s a mere half of a year. Some might say I am inexperienced, but
then why do I still seem to know more about driving than 75% of drivers on the road? Maybe it s
because I just took drivers ed, or maybe I ve just gotten a lot of practice. I m not saying my
driving skills are anything more than satisfactory; however, it appears to me that most other
drivers have skills far below average. I understand emergencies happen and people get distracted,
but that is no excuse for the poor driving quality I witness every day around my own
neighborhood. Why do our roads seem to be filled with subpar drivers? Perhaps the rules of the
road slowly slip their mind over the 10 40 years it s been since they have participated in a driving
program. Maybe people get careless as they grow older, believing their time on the road makes
them an expert driver, or maybe they no longer have the respect for the vehicle they are driving
and the responsibility that goes with it. Maybe that s why they will pull out so carelessly into the
road only to hit a new, less experienced driver.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Afghanistan s Giant Buddha Is Restored By 3d Light...
Afghanistan s giant Buddha was restored
A Chinese couple insistently tried to do something meaningful for the conflicts countries with
courage.
Introduction:
The Bamiyan Buddha in Afghanistan has been restored by 3D light projection technology by
Xinyu Zhang s work team. One Sunday night, in the moment when the giant Buddha was raised up
after fourteen years of laying destroyed in front of around 200 locals, everyone was cheering up
and gazing over the Buddhas, as the Bamiyan can see their hope again.
Must say, reappearing the Buddhas is an extremely huge project for them. Zhang with his team has
been driving 10,000 km from Beijing and passing through conflict zones. On this trip, revisiting
The Silk Road and experiencing the cultures of the Middle East were the main purpose.
Paragraph 1: The Buddhas of Bamiyan do not belong to Bamiyans, or not just Afghanistan. It is
owned by the whole mankind. Said by Xinyu Zhang, the plotter of this project. In Afghanistan,
there were two sides of prevalent opinions for restoring the Buddha, one was for restoration, and
the other was for maintaining the sites. Thus, the project of using 3D light projection technology
has been permitted by UNESCO. Restoring the Buddha of Bamiyan, he needed to do the search for
all the information and create the portrayal for the projector. A culture researcher from Kabul
University was willing to provide more information for Zhang, even though he stills got no ideas

Lupus is a potentially life threatening disease that effects about 1.5 million Americans. Lupus can

but many people who have Lupus do not experience more then one or two of these symptoms. (The
Lupus Foundation of America, The Lupus Page)
There are many different ways to treat Lupus. The most common treatment does not cure Lupus,
but minimizes the symptoms and reduces inflammation. Support groups to help relieve anxiety and
regular exercise can help treat the disease as well. There are a bunch of drugs that can be prescribed
to help treat the specific symptoms. Most of these drugs are anti inflammatory drugs. Some of them
are as simple as over the counter painkillers like Tylenol, while others can be powerful steroids with
anti inflammatory agents in them. (The Lupus Foundation of America, The Lupus Page)
In conclusion Lupus is definitely a very serious disease that we must learn more about. My great
aunt had Lupus for over ten years and during that time suffered in ways no person should have to.
She would fall down constantly and break bones. Near the end of her life, she would break bones
doing stuff as simple as getting out of bed.

Descriptive Essay About Trail Riding
Do you ever have a dream where you re falling, and it feels so real that your body wakes you up?
Well this was not a dream. I was falling, and there was no bed for me to wake up in.
Growing up I was always around horses. My mom got into horses as a teenager, and they never
left her heart. The minute I was born I was put up in the saddle. Where most families would bond
by going swimming, hiking, or to watch a movie, my family bonded by going horseback riding.
(Or as we call it, trail riding.) The first horse I remember riding was a beautiful mare (girl horse)
named Angel. She was a sweet old white quarter horse who took care of everyone who rode her.
I went on many trail rides with her and when she passed away I learned at the early age of six
that people s deaths aren t the only deaths we morn. Eventually I moved on and started riding a
new horse whose name was Tanka.
Tanka was a stubborn and sassy sorrel mare. I really didn t ride her on my own because she
probably would ve taken advantage of me being a beginner. Since I couldn t ride her on my own
my sister Lisa usually rode along on Tanka while I sat behind the saddle, holding on to the edge of
it for dear life. One cloudy mid September day my mom decided we should go on a trail ride. Since
we didn t have enough horses for everyone who wanted to come on the ride, my mom came up
with a plan.
She planned that me, Lisa, and my mom s friend Lori should ride down the road to meet my mom
and her other friends at their house

From then on out I left market research at the required $50,000 just to stay safe. One of the most
important parts of the game I found was spending on IMC. After the first quarter as a group,
when we did very poorly, we found that putting money into IMC was the best way to increase
our profit and market share. What I found that worked best regarding IMC, was to basically put
all additional budget into it. Almost every quarter I did this, my profits would continue to rise.
When I did the simulation individually, every time I gained more money in my total budget that
money would address IMC first. IMC was definitely the key to the game for me. The single most
argued part of the simulation for our group was the distribution of money in Power To Size Ratio,
Manufacturing, and Thermal Resistance. At first it seemed that no matter what we did as a group
some customer would complain about something. No customer complained more than Customer B
complaining about wanting more thermal. Our group found ourselves always arguing over how
much money to put into which of the three categories. We never really did a great job doing so
because there was always an unhappy customer. What I found to be the best method was based on
sure luck. I really wanted to take some relatively large risks in my last attempt at the individual
simulation so I cut out Manufacturing Efficiency Improvement entirely. After two quarters of
making a huge profit, I kept that up until the end. This

chart looks like this: Look first at 1995. In the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new
sharing arrangement. In the AL, the SD fell for a couple of years only. So, maybe sharing made
the difference in the AL, but not for long. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been
falling since before the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD
jumped dramatically from there on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both
leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an
unmitigated success. 4. Do the averages you calculated in Part B add anything to your
conclusions about the impact of increased local revenue sharing on competitive balance.

Analysis Of The Book Halfbreed By Maria Campbell
Summary Maria Campbell s autobiography Halfbreed is a moving story about a young Native
girl s battle to survive, in coming to terms with the past and in discovering a way to build a
brighter future in an atmosphere of social abuse and viciousness. Campbell is the oldest
daughter of seven children, and was born in northern Saskatchewan. Within the book, she points
out the differences between the Native people and the whites, as well as those of status Indians
with non status Native people. Both whites and full blooded Native people rejected her due to
her designation as a non status Native, otherwise known as Metis. Filled with a strong feeling of
resentment and anger, Campbell s search for self identity and her struggle to overcome the
poverty, discrimination, and cruelty experienced by Metis individuals are described within the
novel. When Campbell was twelve, her mother passed away. As a young girl, she was forced to
give up school and take on the role of the mother to her younger siblings. At fifteen years old,
Campbell felt obligated to marry in order to prevent her younger brothers and sisters from being
taken away from her and her father. Unfortunately, her diligent work and good intentions did not
keep her family together. Her spouse, a white, abusive alcoholic, reported her to the welfare
authorities, and her siblings were taken away and placed in foster homes. Her husband chose to

The Loudest Duck By Laura A. Liswood
Throughout the book The Loudest Duck by Laura A. Liswood, we learn about what it means to
be truly diverse and how to obtain this diversity. The book gives many examples of how and why
it is important for companies to be diverse. Through this paper I will be outlining the main points
the other made and share some of the lessons I feel are important.
The first few chapters outline the main problems with diversity that business deal with. While the
rest of the book goes deeper in to the issues and ways to overcome or avoid the problems to create
a truly diverse institute. The author gives background into the Noah s Ark theory as well as the
grandma effect. She also talks about the dynamics of dominate and non dominate groups in the
work place as she relates them to the Elephant and Mouse theory.
The first theory the book looks at is the Noah s Ark theory. The author explains that organizations
often try to become diverse using the Noah s ark model which simply means they try to have one
or more employees that meets each of the minorities. That is, they hire men women and people of
color rather than just hiring the people who are most like them.
This raises more problems than it solves because people are being hired for who they are rather
than the skills that they possess. In this type of situation people who are more qualified for a job
may be pushed aside in order to hire someone who meets the company s diversity needs. Instead of
following this Noah s Ark model

more and more integrated with our lives. On that same note, more electronics are being
connected to the Internet. Gone now is the age old view of the Internet being a place you go in
a web browser. Devices are able to talk to each other, whether they re ten feet away or ten
thousand feet away. This brings with it both amazing new possibilities, but also a slew of
problems including both ethical dilemmas and security risks. Since the technological boom of
around the year 2000, people have been exposed to computers on an almost daily basis. Along...

You probably have already experienced this technology hands on, as it s the software behind
almost every browser based email service. Another driving aspect of Web 2.0 is user created
content. Before, the web was maintained by geeky individuals who knew how to write the code
needed to make the site work. This left probably about 90% of the population just able to fetch
web sites and not create them themselves. With Web 2.0, however, users are able to easily upload
videos, pictures, and stories with ease. YouTube quickly rose as the number one video sharing site
in 2006. Photobucket currently hosts more than 7 billion images on its servers. It s this freedom of
expression that has led to the birth of thousands of online communities. People no longer have to
turn to the news channel to find out what s happening in the world, because it appears on Twitter
the minute it happens. Anyone can upload a video on YouTube and become an instant celebrity,
with thousands of people subscribing to your channel and watching your videos. Some sites even
allow you to turn video views into small income. Finally, the most important breakthrough in Web
2.0 has been search. The most influential player in this field has, without a doubt, been Google.
Many companies have tried to rival this giant, but they don t even come close to the power Google
holds. Google has even become a genericized trademark. When people talk about searching
something online, the first thing that

The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
Randall Jarrell was in the Air force for many years prior to becoming a poet. His poetry does a
good job of describing the harshness of warfare throughout the world. His poem The Death of the
Ball Turret Gunner is exactly this. The overall theme is portrayed through the metaphor of the
state giving birth to an offspring that is already dead, also the dream of democracy and freedom
does not apply to due to the fact that one is already dead. Deathis something that everyone has to
look forward to at some point in life, but one is temporarily alive by this idea of the American
dream they are handed throughout a lifetime. It is not until many are faced with adversity that
life is truly noticed. For the gunner this moment comes when he is six miles from earth facing
enemies that he wakes up for the first time. He is awake due to this being the first time in his life
that he is truly separated from that dream. Jarrell uses the second half of line three to describe
this idea of the detachment from the normality of everyday life. Jarrell is saying that everyday
life is just a dream and one is a zombie, dazed going through the motions of typical life. What
Jarrell is saying here is that Americans are born dead due to the life they are brought up in and
since they are dead do not get to experience real life. The ball turret gunner only truly lives for a
little bit due to the changing consequences of war around him. Last line of the poem describes his
actual death and how

the most popular. This large reservoir offers an impressive number of marinas along hundreds of

morning and wildflowers blooming in the spring.

The book is an entertaining and useful novel that demonstrates the evolution of some of our major structures through time. By analyzing fossils and DNA, the author shows us that our hands truly resemble fish fins, our head is organized like that of a long extinct jawless fish, and that major parts of our genome look and function like those of worms and bacteria. The book takes us on a remarkable expedition in which it will show us our inner fish, reptile and monkey. The author of Your Inner Fish, Neil Shubin, discovered a missing link , a fossil he called Tiktaalik. Tiktaalik shows features that connect the evolutionary gap between fishes and land living animals. Shubin demonstrates in the first four chapters how different branches of science prove that many organs within numerous creatures, ancient or living, are deeply related. For the following chapters he discusses the resemblances between the designs of bodies, skulls, hands, eyes and ears belonging to most of the beings of the animal kingdom.... • 3. Content Analysis and Ethnographic Research in Decoding... In recent years there have been a number of studies regarding how children perceive friendship (Brownlow, 2012). Children may have different understandings of what friendship means to them depending on their age or where they live. Two methods used in this field are content analysis and ethnology. This essay will illustrate the similarities and differences between the two methods through the work of two groups of researchers. Content analysis was used by Brian Bigelow and John La Gaipa, and ethnographic researchwas carried out by William Corsaro. The essay will show that although the researchers worked in the same area of study with some similarity in their approach, they produced contrasting data that was therefore analysed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to commencing their research, Bigelow and La Gaipa and Corsaro needed to decide who the participants would be. They wanted to know what children s personal views were, so a common factor for both types of research was that those taking part were all children. Bigelow and La Gaipa chose a large sample of children aged 6 to 14 years old (Brownlow, 2012). They all resided in the same city in Canada and came from a similar or identical social group. There were 480 participants all together chosen from eight schools, with thirty girls and thirty boys from each. The age range was a significant factor to them because they wanted to study how children understood friendship at different ages and stages of their life. Using such a large number of children in their study meant that they could make generalisations about children s friendships and how they develop over time. This data could then be applied to children as a whole. Corsaro chose his participants differently. The children that took part in his studies were about three years old (Brownlow, 2012). In addition, unlike Bigelow and La Gaipa, Corasro did not limit his research to one city, or even one country. He wanted to know what friendship meant for children at different times and in different places. Therefore, Corsaro studied children in different countries including, the United States and Italy (Interview with William Corsaro, 2010). By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After underwriting both each team member will rate one of the two requests. It is important that the DCs distribute similar requests in terms of rating time to one certain UT. Due to the fusion of step two and three 25% (time savings in writing and getting into the case) or more of rating time will be saved. In order to stay within a save margin we reduced the weighted average rating time by 25% and added this to the weighted average time of underwriting. We divided the weighting time of the first request lying on the desk while the second is being processed on both requests. In average 12 requests will be processed by the UTs every 109.6 minutes. Every 54.8 minutes (109.6/2 min) 6 requests can be processed by the policy writing department. Hence the average service rate in step two and three is the same. This would also increase productivity by decreasing queuing time. Characterised by its fox like face, bushy striped tail, and unmistakable mask of dark patches around their eyes, the growing population of urban raccoons has become somewhat of an epidemic. These small creatures are known for their relatively high intellect, enabling them to access human resources. Raccoons are omnivores, and have been consistently observed to eat virtually anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and secondary consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social structure relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal behaviors. Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach adolescence, at which time they leave), or an individual. • 24. Conflict Of Styles In Watership Down By Richard Adams Conflict of Styles The success of any group is determined by those who lead it. In Watership Down by Richard Adams, a band of rabbits leave their warren when one of them feels that danger is coming. They encounter several struggles before they settle down and create the Watership warren. An attempt to extract does from another warren called Efrafa starts a rivalry between the two groups, lead by Hazel and General Woundwort respectively. Hazel and Woundwort are two vastly different leaders. Hazel and Woundwort become leaders in different ways. After meeting Kehaar, the Watership rabbits discuss the future of the warren, and they realize that they need does. Hazel then proposes that Kehaar can fly and find a nearby warren they can take does from. All of the rabbits accept Hazel s idea, as they have come to consider him their leader. He was simply the one as a Chief Rabbit ought to be, (188). Hazel s natural rise to power shows how his rabbits view him. They all respect him and naturally see him as an authoritative figure. He is also a capable leader, as he can use each rabbit in a way that they can benefit the group. Woundwort s rise to power, however, required force. At Efrafa, the story of General Woundwort is told. After he loses his family, a young Woundwort finds and joins a warren. Soon he had become Chief Rabbit, having killed both the previous Chief and a rival named Fiorin, (304). Woundwort s violence in rising to power carries over to when he is in power. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If this is the case it is important for the therapist to listen to what that need is and to help the individual satisfy that need in a constructive and effective manner I imagine the therapists first challenge when presented with an individual who self harms is creating a space where the client can trust the therapist. I can imagine an individual who self harms will carry a large level of guilt and shame at the behaviour and it is as always vital to move at a pace the client is comfortable with. If I am aware of marks or cuts before the client has disclosed to me I will wait until the client feels safe or I feel is ready to talk about the behaviour. Often the client will not have appropriate support systems for whatever reason which puts them in a very vulnerable position. It has been repeatedly asked and for years people have debated whether we have a good nature or an evil one. In my opinion, I believe human nature causes people to be bad and require the need to be controlled. This question can be seen in William Golding s Lord of the Flies and it can be speculated that Golding viewed human nature as an evilone. Throughout the book and humanity, there are several clues that can lead us to the answer. It is evident in every part of the world; there is evil. From the six million Jews that have been executed in World War II, to the thousands of African people used as slaves, and to every schoolyard bully.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our society, people at a young age are taught and forced to be good to one another. As you can see babies and younger children are self centered and misbehave frequently. Kids often believe things must go their way and can be cruel bullies to one another. During kindergarten and early years of elementary school, children can be seen fighting for toys. However, our teachers and parents taught us that if we misbehave, we will be punished. If we were naturally born good, wouldn t we be able to act good naturally? In Lord of the flies, the boys arrived on the island well behaved and stated they will survive because they are English. However, their set of rules were not obeyed and slowly the boys stopped following the laws of civilization. The boys ranged from ages 5 to 12 years old, thus the younger children were easily capable of becoming savage as they were not taught how to be courteous. As well, the younger boys did not know what they were doing was wrong. The children were exposed to violent manners from the older boys and quickly developed to behave like them. • 27. Victorian Era Research Paper The Victorian Era started with Queen Victoria s rule from June 20, 1837 to her death on January 22, 1901. The Victorian Era primarily describes a period of English history, where Britain saw a rise in industrialization, growth in the economy, growth of the middle class, growth of a large population, and a large scale expansion of imperial power. The society was extremely conservative and patriarchal. There was an idea called the Cult of Domesticity that believed that a woman s identity should consist of piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness. However, this era saw the birth and rise of political and social movements such as socialism, liberalism, and organized feminism. Because of the rapid changes that occurred during the Victorian Era, it brought out rapid changes in literature. The most popular topics for Victorian Era novels were industrialization, class, science vs. religion, progress, utilitarianism, the role of women in society, and how to live an ideal life. This era also saw an increase of works in a large variety of subjects such as scientific works, philosophy, nature writing, and Gothic tales. Early Victorian works, emphasized the notion of what is English or what constitutes an Englishman . This is mostly due to how conservative the society was. Later Victorian works rebelled against these ideas. The novel became the most popular form of literature during the Victorian Era. Many of them were originally serialized. Many novels during this era helped develop our current popular genres such as fantasy and science fiction. There was a rise in female novelists, but they went under male pseudonyms because of how male patriarchal the society was and female writers were often shunned. The most popular writer of this time was Charles Dickens. The Bronte sisters wrote many significant works, but they were not appreciated by Victorian critics. Others famous writers include: William Thackeray, who wrote Vanity Fair Thomas Hardy, who wrote Far from the Madding Crowd Oscar Wilde, who wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray George Eliot (Mary Anne Evans), who wrote Middlemarch Charles Dickens was the most famous Victorian novelist. Many reforms, with the idea of opening up the market and reducing barriers to trade in order to increase growth, control inflation, and reduce social unrest, have taken hold in the region in notable countries such as Mexico. In, Programs on Poverty and Inequality: Chile, Mexico, and Peru, John Sheahan explores the reasons as to why liberalization programs have seemingly worked in some countries, and have had lackluster effects in others. Chile, for example, is often cited as the shining beacon of economic example in Latin America, and is also grouped in with the East Asian economies that developed to the level of Western Europe from the 1980s onwards. Conversely, Mexico has had disappointing growth that has never recovered to pre 1980s levels, along with social unrest and failures in governance. This paper will explore the questions: Why does poverty persist so much in some countries in the region e.g. Mexico, and Peru to a lesser extent, and why does it seem effectively controlled in other parts, such as in Chile? Sheahan argues that direct social programs are increasing in popularity as effective forms of controlling the negative effects of liberalization reforms, but that they ... Why do our roads seem to be filled with subpar drivers? Perhaps the rules of the road slowly slip their mind over the 10 40 years it s been since they have participated in a driving program. Maybe people get careless as they grow older, believing their time on the road makes them an expert driver, or maybe they no longer have the respect for the vehicle they are driving and the responsibility that goes with it. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD jumped dramatically from there on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an unmitigated success. 4.
