- 5. Would you liketo be able to………? • Read what the doctor has written about you • Order repeat prescriptions • Have a list of what happened & when • Get more information about your condition • Read consultants’ letters • See your test results • Check referrals • etc.

- 7. Test results • Alltest results available • Blood tests • If regularly tested, can monitor trends • Understandable, value, graphic, Normal / Abnormal • Labtests Online • Comment by doctor • Can avoid repeating tests • No need to contact practice
- 9. Summary of significantevents • Form filling, insurance & benefits etc. • Useful when you are asked the same thing over and over again! • Good to be a reminded of progress • Links to trusted sites where information is available

Letters, referrals etc •All communications that go in & out of the practice • Gives the patient confidence, knows what has been done • No need to contact practice • Letters from consultants……supposed to send but often don’t • Can check understanding and roles in what happens next • Can use the letters to inform others who don’t communicate • Examples…..France, Grandson, Yvonne, Margaret
- 11. Consultations etc. • Patientretention of information can be as low as 10% • Can check understanding & what happens next • Can get family or friends / carers help • Language difficulties …… Australia………. Nursing homes • Elderly man in A&E • Safe medicine • No need to contact practice
- 12. Mobile Phone app •Have information available anywhere home and abroad with just 2 passwords! How cool is that? • A large percentage of the population have a suitable mobile phone • Information about passwords can be stored under ICE or using an ICE app on the lockscreen • ICE app is next to the Patient Access records access app • If someone steals the phone, passwords can be changed
- 13. Having access tomy medical information has given me……… • More confidence • Better understanding of my conditions • More productive conversations leading to shared decision making • More control • More independence • More convenience • I’m very lucky!

Challenges for PatientEngagement • Digital Divide • No interest / lack of interest in their health • Think it’s too complicated can’t be bothered • Don’t know about it • Needs support from practice / staff / clinicians • Want to be cared for and told • Worries about external pressures • Don’t want it…it’s scary, can get hacked • Lack of understanding of what is possible • Nothing to see…….Wonderful!

Challenges for PracticeEngagement • Who has the time ? • Where will the funding come from ? • Will this just build higher expectations that we cannot deliver on? • What about those who can't do it ? • If staff themselves don't have it, why should patients ? • What if patients ask questions about errors, info that is missing etc ? • Why should practices prioritise this over others ? • Our notes are not fit to be shared because….. • I don't mind as long as I do not have to do it…. • This does not fit in with the wider engagement of others…. • It's just too difficult so why bother ? • I know other practices don't do questionnaires, why should we ?
