HILT is a terminology service created by JISC that provides machine-readable terminology and mappings between different subject schemes. It aims to improve subject searching and browsing by enriching the terms a user knows through synonyms and related terms. HILT currently covers over 10 subject schemes and will help improve search and browse mechanisms for information services by identifying relevant collections and services based on subject terms. HILT is beginning a six month public testing period and invites individuals and services to participate.

However, a key prerequisite and enabler of digital transformation is computational accessibility and interoperability of data, as laid out in the FAIR Data principles. The Hyve has been involved in the FAIR Data movement since the start, and for this webinar, our CEO Kees van Bochove will be talking to a very special guest, Ruben Kok, director of DTL. DTL and its predecessor NBIC, as well as ‘spinoff’ GO-FAIR have spent an enormous amount of effort in the past years on outreach, training, tools and community building around the FAIR Data Principles. Towards Semantic APIs for Research Data Services (Invited Talk)

Rapid development of Internet and Web technology is changing the state of the art in communication of knowledge, or results of research activities. Particularly, Semantic technology, linked and open data become key enablers for successful and efficient progress in research. At first, I define the research data service (RDS) and discuss typical current and possible future usage scenarios involving RDS. Further, I discuss the state of the art in the areas of semantic service and data annotation and API construction, as well as infrastructural solutions, applicable for RDS realisation. At last, innovative methods of online dissemination, promotion and efficient communication of research are discussed.

A Query Model for Ad Hoc Queries using a Scanning Architecture

Systems like Hadoop, Hbase and Hive allowed the world to take huge strides in managing and analyzing large amounts of data. Products like Flurry analytics make efficient use of large amounts of hardware using these tools to build statistics for hundreds of thousands of applications. However, these tools require the end user to first set up relevant analytics queries and then wait days for the results. If the results prompt new questions or the original query is not quite right, the user must rerun and wait again for the results. We present the Burst system developed at Flurry to support low-latency single pass queries over very large and complex mobile application streams. We have created a data schema and query model that can answer very complex ad-hoc queries over data, and is highly parallelizable while maintaining low-latency. We implement these scans so that they are time and space efficient using the advanced disk scanning techniques provided by the underlying operating system.

COLLABORATIVE BIBLIOGRAPHIC SYSTEM FOR REVIEW/SURVEY ARTICLES

This paper proposes a Bibliographic system intends to exchange bibliographic information of survey/review articles by relying on Web service technology. It allows researchers and university students to interact with system via single service using platform-independent standard named Web service to add, search and retrieve bibliographic information of review articles in various science and technology fields and build-up a dedicated database for these articles in each science and technology field. Additionally, different implementation scenarios of the proposed system are presented and described, andrich features that offered by such system are studied and described. However, this paper explains the proposed system using computing area due to the existence of detailed taxonomy of this area, which allows defining the system, their functionalities and features provided.However, the proposed system is not only confined to computing area, it can support any other science and technology area without any need to modify this system.

As we know there are multiple users and they access various websites and every website contains multiple web pages. It is difficult for the users to find a document that is equal to their needs. Users browse their request by submitting their queries to any search engine like Google or Yahoo and it is has been found that most of the results given by the search engines are irrelevant most of the time. Web crawlers are most of the important components used by a search engine that collects web pages from the web. It is not easy for a crawler to download specific web pages. The ontology, created from the browsing history, was then parsed for the entered search query from users and the corresponding results were returned to the user providing a semantically organized and relevant output. An ontology-based web crawler uses ontological concepts for improving its performance. So it will be easy for the users to get relevant data what as per the user search request. We have focused on self-adaptive semantic focused crawler, SeSM and StSM algorithm.
