5.5 Housing and Service Interventions for Youth and Young Parents: Successful Models
Speaker: Todd Witt
For unaccompanied youth and young parents who cannot be reunified with their families or quickly re-housed independently, longer-term housing interventions may be necessary. This workshop will examine transitional housing models currently being utilized to serve youth and young parents, including congregate facilities and scattered-site units, as well as methods of targeting and minimizing involuntary exits.

Good #oral health is critical to good overall heath and while tooth decay and other dental diseases can have long lasting impacts on long-term health and employability, millions of Americans go without needed dental care because they can’t find a dentist, can’t afford care, lack dental insurance, or are unaware of the importance of dental care.
Two major policy initiatives now include chronic absence as an accountability measure for schools in California, the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). This session will feature Attendance Works, the nation’s leading expert on chronic absence, California education policy leaders, and school health experts who will provide an overview of the accountability measures, how they can be used to reinforce the importance of health for attendance, and how school-based health providers can support efforts to address chronic absence.

Supporting Abused and Neglected Children Through Early Care and PolicyHealthy City
Title: Supporting abused and neglected children through early care and policy
This webinar will make the case for supporting abused and neglected children through early care opportunities as well as describe how to use the healthycity.org site to research and identify policy solutions around foster youth and early childhood education issues.
Learning objectives:
1) Strengthen one’s understanding of populations that make up abused and neglected children
2) Learn how to identify data around abused and neglected children on healthycity.org
3) Understand policy opportunities to improve conditions for the youngest abused and neglected children
Families are connected to both schools and communities, shouldn’t family supports be integrated too? In Alameda, we have forged a county-district-CBO partnership to create a family “hub” or central family resource center in one district. We will share our approach, focusing on the innovative partnerships and financing strategies that have made it possible.
Engaging families in voluntary services to prevent further intervention from the formal system.

Childhood adversity, such as child abuse and exposure to violence and poverty, can have negative long-term impacts on health and well being. In this webinar, our panelists discussed how to describe the burden of childhood adversity in your community, how to frame your message most effectively, and how to engage and mobilize your community to address the roots and effects of childhood adversity. Panelists also lead participants on a virtual tour of Kidsdata’s Childhood Adversity and Resilience data, research, and policy recommendations.

Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

The Program
Healthy Families America (HFA) is a nationally recognized
evidence-based home visiting program model designed to work
with overburdened families who are at-risk for adverse
childhood experiences. The model is equipped to work with
families who may have a history of:
• Trauma
• Intimate partner violence
• Mental health and/or substance abuse issues

The Model
With three decades of research, the model is proven to be
effective with families. Twelve critical elements were developed:
• Services are voluntary and initiated prenatally or at birth and go to
age 3
• Standardized assessment tool identifies families most in need
• The program is culturally competent; supports parents, parent-child
interactions, and child development; links families to medical
providers and/or additional services and extensively trains home
visiting nurses
