2. Do you want to live in healthy
surroundings?

3. We call everything around us our
environment. This includes the people, things,
land, trees, plants, animals, and even our air
and water. We need to protect the
environment because it is a gift from God.

4. Our environment provides us
with what we need in order to live.
It gives us food, medicine, clothing,
and shelter.

5. Even young children can help
protect the environment. By
helping protect the environment,
we make it a better place to live in.

6. Cleaning Our Surroundings
During the school- wide cleaning activity, the Grade One
students were assigned to help clean the garden and mini
farm.
The garden has different kinds of trees, plants, and
flowers. The mini farm is home to the big rabbits, a rooster, a
hen with 10 chicks, and ducks with a couple of ducklings.

7. The students started cleaning. Some watered the plants. Some
fed the animals. Others swept dried leaves and other pieces of trash.
They threw trash into the garbage can. Their teacher picked up plastic
cups, bottles, and candy wrappers. She reminded the class to
the garbage into biodegradable and nonbiodegradable materials. She
explained that biodegradable materials are those that rot and become
part of the soil. Some of the materials considered nonbiodegradable
may still be recycled.

8. As they continued cleaning, they heard something
from behind. Their teacher looked around and saw a
pupil throwing stones at a bird. She called the pupil’s
attention and told him that it was wrong to hurt
animals. She reminded the rest of the class they are
of God’s creation.

9. After cleaning, the teacher explained to the
class the importance of keeping their
surroundings clean. The class agreed that living
a clean environment is healthier and more fun.
Therefore, the environment should be kept clean
at all times.

10. The pupils learned that day that everything
God created is a gift. A gift is something that
should be valued and cared for. That is why
people should protect God’s gifts. Let us all
respect and love our environment.

11. It is important that we all work
together in making and keeping our
environment clean and healthy.

12. Each one of us has a part to play
in taking care of the environment.

13. We should always remember the following:
•The planet and everything in it are gifts from God.
•It is our responsibility to take care of all of God’s
gifts to us.
•Protecting our environment will make our planet a
clean, safe, and beautiful place to live in.
