by Amnon Shashua & Ziv Aviram, one
to be a researcher of the Hebrew
University, the other an experienced
business man.
Mobileye – How it all started
Prof. Shashua evolved his academic
research into a technical solution for a
vision system which could detect vehicles
using only a camera and software
algorithms on a processor.

The support – the technology transfer company of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem ( Yissum) founded in 1964 to market
ideas and innovation of university researchers and employees.
At first the company developed algorithms, and a processor
chip called the EyeQ chip.
After years of testing, the chip and software algorithms began
to be sold as commercial products to original equipment
manufacturer (OEM) customers: BMW, General Motors and
Volvo

Other Government to push ADAS

European Regulation for Lane Departure Warning
EU Regulation No. 351/2012 specifies the
technical requirements and test procedures for Lane
Departure Warning Systems (LDWS) that detect
unintentional drift of the vehicle out of its travel lane and warn
the driver by a combination of optical, acoustic or haptic
signals.
The Regulation specifies requirements on the system
operation, specifies test procedures to confirm the
performance of the system and includes examples of the lanes
markings that the system must be able to detect.

Mobileye Pilot with Austrian Government
In June 2016, Austrian Minister of Transportation Jörg Leichtfried presented
measures to increase road safety
The first step: to cut the number of fatalities in half by 2020
The number of traffic accidents in Austria is constant for several years now,
but the number of deaths has increased by 11% to 479 deaths, compared to
2014. The ultimate goal is no more fatalities on Austrian roads.
One of the principal measures: Mobileye Shield +™ pilot project
The BMVIT (Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology) will
fund the pilot project, in which 20 trucks will be equipped with the
innovative collision avoidance system Mobileye Shield+™.
After a test period, the minister will evaluate the opportunity to
extend the equipment to all the trucks in the country via tax
incentive measures.

During the tests, approximately 300 of Mobileye’s
aftermarket collision avoidance systems were installed on
buses and trucks and driven 15 million kilometers. On
average, the vehicles equipped with Mobileye systems
showed:

MTA SHIELD+ INSTALLATION
Working with MTA to install Shield+ on 145 buses.

Rheinbahn Pilot in Dusseldorf
As of January, Rheinbahn and Mobileye started a one year pilot
project equipping buses with Mobileye’s Shield +
The city of Düsseldorf is one of the first cities in Europe and specifically in
Germany to test the system, illustrating commitment to
improving road safety and following the lead of other endorsements
of Mobileye's Technology.
Conducted a meeting with the mayor of Dusseldorf in Mobileye HQ,
he stated he wants to equip all the large vehicles in Dusseldorf with the
shield + solution,as the first step of becoming a “Smart City”.

After running trials over several months, they are installing Cycle
Safety Shield Powered by Mobileye technology in their new urban
delivery vehicles.
This is part of their commitment to keep pedestrians and cyclists safe.
So far about 80 vehicles have been installed with a two camera
system.
The roll out will continue on all new vehicles with 100-200 more
vehicles in Q3.
