Throughout these presentation slides, we will
be discussing strategies, resources, activities
that teachers can use to enhance
heath and wellness. We will also learn about
obstacles that teachers will encounter while
doing health and wellness.
Developmentally Appropriate Practice
• In Developmentally Appropriate Practice in
deal with health and wellness for children on
must know what is Developmentally
Appropriate Practice is. In NAEYC’s
comprehensive statement is the best of
practice of care and education of young
children from birth to age eight and is based
on principles of children development and
learning theory and supported by research.
Health and Wellness
Definition
1. Health is a state of complete physical,
mental, and social well-being, not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity (World
Health Organization, 2003a).
2. Wellness – this refers to optional health and
the vitality to enjoy life and determines by
life choices (Sorte, J., Daeschel, I., &
Amador, C., 2011).
Five Teachers Points in
Developmentally Appropriate
• Common D.A.P.’s include but are not limited to:
• 1) Strategies in familiar activities such as singing together, story reading,
and dramatic play
• 2) At the universal level, all children should receive sufficient density of
positive feedback from their caregivers(as cited in Program Practices
for Promoting the Social Development of Young Children and
Addressing Challenging Behavior )
• 3) At the secondary level, a social skills curriculum should be adopted and
implemented.(as cited in Program Practices for Promoting the Social
Development of Young Children and Addressing Challenging Behavior )
• 4) At the tertiary (or intervention) level, assessment-based interventions
that are developed through the process of Positive Behavior Support
(PBS) have been shown to be effective as cited in Program Practices for
Promoting the Social Development of Young Children and Addressing
Challenging Behavior )
• 5) Offering individual activities, such as having children to keep a dairy of all of the
foods they have eaten for the day.
Effective Teachers Strategies
1)Practice proper hand washing
2)Sanitize toys
3) Clean the classroom daily
4)Send sick children home
Classroom Practices in Washing Hands
in Developmentally Appropriate
In developmentally appropriate children are capable of
washing their hands effectively when the support are available
to them. It is important for teachers and students to remember hand
washing is the single most important way to reduce the spread of
diseases and unwashed or improperly washed hands with hygiene
measures are the primary source and significantly for the spread of
diseases and reducing spreading diseases.
The equipment and supplies that can be used would include
providing a child-size sink and step stool so the children can
reach the water. Running warm water is need to encourage
scrubbing and to remove soil and germs. Liquid soap should
provide it is easier for children to use. Disposable towels are
recommended to avoid the spread of germs.

Information For Teachers in Washing
Hands
Kids don't always listen when teachers and parents tell them to wash their hands
before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing.
But it's a message worth repeating — hand washing is by far the best way to
prevent germs from spreading and to keep kids from getting sick.
First Line of Defense Against Germs
• Germs can spread many ways, including:
• touching dirty hands
• changing dirty diapers
• through contaminated water and food
• through droplets in the air released during a cough or sneeze
• on contaminated surfaces
• through contact with a sick person's body fluids
When kids come into contact with germs, they can unknowingly become infected
simply by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. And once they're infected, it's usually
just a matter of time before the whole family comes down with the same illness.
Engaging Ways To Teaching in Washing Hands
• Assess the children's knowledge of proper hand washing technique and the basics of when and how often hand washing
is indicated.
• Present a developmentally appropriate hand washing lesson to teach proper hand washing technique using resources
obtained from www.henrythehand.com.
• Demonstrate the effectiveness of thorough hand washing using the Glogerm and blacklight.
• Have the children return demonstrate the hand washing technique that they have learned.
• Reassess to ensure that learning has taken place and children are able to verbalize and return demonstrate the
technique that they have learned.
One techique that can be used in explaining and teaching children in washing hands is
•
Teach new hand washing song to the children:
– If you’re happy and you know it, scrub your hands.
– If you’re happy and you know it, scrub your hands.
– If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
– If you’re happy and you know it, scrub your hands.
– If you’re happy and you know it, rinse them off.
– If you’re happy and you know it, rinse them off.
– If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
– If you’re happy and you know it, rinse them off.
Resources in Washing Hand:
Henry the Hand video presentation which discusses proper hand washing
technique and the basics of when and how often hand washing is indicated.

Teaching How To Wash Hands
Washing hands are important actions in preventing the
spread of diseases. Young children touch and share many objects
throughout the day and placing their hands, fingers and toys close to
their mouth and noses. Here the proper steps in washing hands
1) Wet Hands
2) Soap about 20 seconds
3). Scrub backs of hands, wrists, between fingers, under fingernails.
4). Rinse hand well from soap
5). Use disposable towels and throw them away in the proper trash cans.
6) Turn off taps with towels
Conclusion
In developmentally appropriate practices is to help
young children to especially vulnerable on spreading
diseases in the classroom or at home teachers needs to
practice in immunization, hand washing, and daily
health checks to help control infections and diseases.
Involving teachers in sanitization practices are
important strategies to protect children from blood
bourne and diseases spreading. It also very important
for teachers take responsibility to teach children how
they can be participants in keeping themselves healthy
and setting goals of wellness and provide children with
healthful skills that they can use in the future.

  • 3. Summary Throughout these presentation slides, we will be discussing strategies, resources, activities that teachers can use to enhance heath and wellness. We will also learn about obstacles that teachers will encounter while doing health and wellness.
  • 4. Developmentally Appropriate Practice • In Developmentally Appropriate Practice in deal with health and wellness for children on must know what is Developmentally Appropriate Practice is. In NAEYC’s comprehensive statement is the best of practice of care and education of young children from birth to age eight and is based on principles of children development and learning theory and supported by research.
  • 5. Health and Wellness Definition 1. Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (World Health Organization, 2003a). 2. Wellness – this refers to optional health and the vitality to enjoy life and determines by life choices (Sorte, J., Daeschel, I., & Amador, C., 2011).
  • 6. Five Teachers Points in Developmentally Appropriate • Common D.A.P.’s include but are not limited to: • 1) Strategies in familiar activities such as singing together, story reading, and dramatic play • 2) At the universal level, all children should receive sufficient density of positive feedback from their caregivers(as cited in Program Practices for Promoting the Social Development of Young Children and Addressing Challenging Behavior ) • 3) At the secondary level, a social skills curriculum should be adopted and implemented.(as cited in Program Practices for Promoting the Social Development of Young Children and Addressing Challenging Behavior ) • 4) At the tertiary (or intervention) level, assessment-based interventions that are developed through the process of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) have been shown to be effective as cited in Program Practices for Promoting the Social Development of Young Children and Addressing Challenging Behavior ) • 5) Offering individual activities, such as having children to keep a dairy of all of the foods they have eaten for the day.
  • 7. Effective Teachers Strategies 1)Practice proper hand washing 2)Sanitize toys 3) Clean the classroom daily 4)Send sick children home
  • 8. Classroom Practices in Washing Hands in Developmentally Appropriate In developmentally appropriate children are capable of washing their hands effectively when the support are available to them. It is important for teachers and students to remember hand washing is the single most important way to reduce the spread of diseases and unwashed or improperly washed hands with hygiene measures are the primary source and significantly for the spread of diseases and reducing spreading diseases. The equipment and supplies that can be used would include providing a child-size sink and step stool so the children can reach the water. Running warm water is need to encourage scrubbing and to remove soil and germs. Liquid soap should provide it is easier for children to use. Disposable towels are recommended to avoid the spread of germs.

  • 10. Information For Teachers in Washing Hands Kids don't always listen when teachers and parents tell them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing. But it's a message worth repeating — hand washing is by far the best way to prevent germs from spreading and to keep kids from getting sick. First Line of Defense Against Germs • Germs can spread many ways, including: • touching dirty hands • changing dirty diapers • through contaminated water and food • through droplets in the air released during a cough or sneeze • on contaminated surfaces • through contact with a sick person's body fluids When kids come into contact with germs, they can unknowingly become infected simply by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. And once they're infected, it's usually just a matter of time before the whole family comes down with the same illness.
  • 11. Engaging Ways To Teaching in Washing Hands • Assess the children's knowledge of proper hand washing technique and the basics of when and how often hand washing is indicated. • Present a developmentally appropriate hand washing lesson to teach proper hand washing technique using resources obtained from www.henrythehand.com. • Demonstrate the effectiveness of thorough hand washing using the Glogerm and blacklight. • Have the children return demonstrate the hand washing technique that they have learned. • Reassess to ensure that learning has taken place and children are able to verbalize and return demonstrate the technique that they have learned. One techique that can be used in explaining and teaching children in washing hands is • Teach new hand washing song to the children: – If you’re happy and you know it, scrub your hands. Resources in Washing Hand: Henry the Hand video presentation which discusses proper hand washing technique and the basics of when and how often hand washing is indicated. • 13. Conclusion In developmentally appropriate practices is to help young children to especially vulnerable on spreading diseases in the classroom or at home teachers needs to practice in immunization, hand washing, and daily health checks to help control infections and diseases. Involving teachers in sanitization practices are important strategies to protect children from blood bourne and diseases spreading.
