Position Overview - Basic Functions & Responsibility Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
To create a positive working relationship between MSD and the NHS that optimises the local environment and grows our
business by:
• Encouraging the adoption of EBM.
• Coordinating national and local actions to ensure inclusion of Vioxx , Cozaar and Arcoxia in PCO formularies.
• Coordinating national and local actions to ensure inclusion of Vioxx , Cozaar, Arcoxia, Fosamax, Zocor and
Singulair in targeted PCO disease guidelines.
• Encouraging prioritisation of Osteoporosis in targeted PCOs and the production of treatment guidelines
• Seeking out and developing opportunities for collaborative working with key customer groups.
• Providing support and feedback to Business Units.
• Identifying barriers to business / organisational development and develop and implementing actionable
solutions

Primary Activities Primary activities include, but are not limited to:
1. To build and maintain relationships, on behalf of MSD, with key managers and board members within Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care
Organisation - where appropriate, act as the key point of contact between these "corporate" bodies and MSD.
2. To research, record and maintain a defined minimum data set for each StHA / PCO. This to include organisational development plans, key
personnel, strategic documents, clinical priorities and investments plans, current position taken with regard to key products and disease areas on
defined scales, formulary detail, links with secondary care and other influencers.
3. In close co-operation with local BDMs and Hospital Managers to develop and maintain a business plans for PCOs which define the disease area
and product objectives for the entire MSD team responsible for the area covered by the PCO . To be responsible for getting these plans approved,
managing their implementation - including co-ordinating routine meetings with sales teams and managers and feeding back progress to these teams
through appropriate media, and for routine reporting of progress against the agreed plan metrics.
4. Provide routine intelligence on NHS organisational and policy developments through to Head Office.
5. Manage allocated budget to support above business plans. Prepare and present proposals for further moneys when available from marketing
teams or franchise business units. Provide routine reports to stakeholders on existing and new projects.
6. To effectively work in a team environment ensuring cooperation of team members in associated primary and secondary care teams
Skills Required
• At least 4 years demonstrably successful selling experience within the pharmaceutical industry, preferably with previous management experience or from
NHS Management with appropriate commercial acumen and inter-personal skills.
• Proven , demonstrable ability to plan and manage complex projects and to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
• Proven ability to quickly grasp complex concepts (Health Economics) and absorb and recall detailed technical detail (Product and Disease Area).
• Proven track record of successfully working with and within teams to achieve objectives.
Dimensions
• Territory to cover 1/24 of UK 1Strategic HA, 10-15 Primary Care Organisations.
• Interface with 16 - 30 Representatives / 8 BDMs / 2 Hospital Managers.
• Manage allocated budget of c£8K to support implementation of business plans.
• Development of Business Plans and Business Proposals for projects that historically have attracted up to £150,000 investment from product teams.
