This therapy focuses on reaching the deeper layers of muscle and the surrounding connective tissues, offering relief for various conditions and discomforts. It is essential to note that the experience can differ significantly from what one typically expects from a massage. Here, let us discuss a brief overview of deep tissue massage, outlining the primary treatment steps, considerations, and potential benefits.
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of massage therapy is that it’s noninvasive and fairly easily tolerated by the client. “Second,” says Jurch, “is that other forms of treatment may not address all of the necessary areas.” Meaning, again, that some of your clients may be feeling pain in one area whose source is actually in another. “A massage therapist can understand the relationship between each of the muscles that have an impact on a joint,” explains Donnelly. “Knowing which muscle needs to be released first in order for subsequent muscles to be effectively treated is immensely helpful.”
That a massage therapist is focused on muscles, tendons and insertion points is also helpful, according to Donnelly. “A massage therapist can use the referral patterns of the trigger points to follow the point of pain described by the client back to the originating muscle, locate the trigger point in that muscle and apply direct pressure to release the spasms,” she explains.
Typically, massage therapists use a type of compression—sometimes referred to as digital pressure—to help relieve trigger points. “The goal of treating trigger points is to remove the spasm and return the sarcomere to its original length,” Jurch explains. “Digital pressure works by applying pressure to a ‘knot’ for anywhere from 30 seconds to 90 seconds, until a change in the tissue is felt.”
However, both Donnelly and Jurch agree that while doing this work, clearly communicating with your clients is imperative, as they may experience some pain and you need to be able to adjust pressure when necessary. “Unlike a relaxing massage, trigger point therapy can be uncomfortable to receive, especially while applying the direct pressure on the trigger point,” Donnelly says. “I always explain to clients that it’s very important for them to tell me immediately if the pain is not tolerable to I can adjust my pressure.”
Jurch shoots for a seven out of 10 on a client’s pain scale, cautioning that massage therapists don’t want to be too aggressive with this work and cause irritation to the tissue. “Once the therapist feels the tissue change,” he says, “they should remove the pressure and perform some general massage strokes to the area.”
So, while you are used to checking in with clients during a massage therapy session, doing so more frequently may be necessary when doing trigger point work. “What may be just fine in one area might be intolerable in another,” Donnelly explains. “I ask my clients over and over ‘Is this pressure OK?’ Sometimes we laugh because I ask so often, but they definitely get the point that it’s vital for me to know how they are doing during the entire massage therapy session.”
Clients who are in chronic pain, no matter what the cause, are looking for one thing: relief. More and more, massage therapy is proving helpful. For your clients who look to you for help managing chronic pain, understanding—and being able to treat—trigger points can sometimes make all the difference.

Shiatsu is a form of massage originating in Japan that uses finger and palm pressure on parts of the body called meridians. It is considered a holistic therapy that can help relax muscles and reduce stress and pain. While there is no evidence it can treat diseases, proponents believe it can aid conditions like arthritis, headaches, and issues related to pregnancy and circulation. The related technique of zen shiatsu incorporates elements of Buddhist meditation to enhance the massage and understand chi or life energy flow through the meridians.

2. OBJECTIVE OF MASSAGE:
Massage is the practice of soft tissue manipulation, functional and in some cases psychological purposes.
Massage therapy can help you to relax your stress in many ways. Massage includes acting and
manipulation of body with pressure-structured, unstructured, stationary or moving- tension, motion, or
vibration done manually or with mechanical aids.
3. Benefits of Massage:
1. Reduces stress: Getting regular massage helps in reducing stress. Health experts have
determined that more than 90% of all the diseases are stress related and many of them can be cured
by regular massage therapy.
2. Helps to fight back pain: Massages are a great way to reduce back pain. While your muscles
may get stiff and begin to pain during long work hours of sitting in front of the computer, massage can
help them stretch these stiffened muscles and help you feel more flexible
3. Improves blood Circulation: Massages improve the circulation of the blood in your body. This in
turn makes sure your body gets an abundant supply of oxygenated blood, and helps in removal of
toxins
4.Eaier Pregnancy: Massages are great during pregnancy
5.Recovery from workout strain: no matter level of fitness a person is at as an athlete, workout is
bound to place your muscles under strain. Massages can relieve you of the exercise strain and speed
the recovery process as well.
6.Helps with insomnia: another heath condition that benefits greatly from regular massage therapy
is insomnia. wether your sleeping troubles are full blown or just mild disturbances, massages can
effectively make a great improvement.
4. 7.Improves in body immune system: regular massages help in the circulation and working of
the lymph nodes. Lymph cells are what make the body immune system.
8.Greater joint flexibility: The benefits of massage are just limited to muscles, bones also
benefit from it. Massage helps to increase joint flexibility. Movement becomes easier and you
become more active.
9. Massage therapy decreases tension, depression and pain.
10.Reduces blood pressure
5. CLASSIFICATION OF DIFFERENT MASSAGING TECHNIQUES:
Swedish Massage Therapy:
This is the most common type of massage therapy in the United States. It is also known as Swedish massage
or simply massage therapy. Massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements
on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and
relaxing. If you've never had massage before, this is a good one to try first.
Aromatherapy Massage:
Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy with the addition of one or more scented plant oils called
essential oils to address specific needs. The massage therapist can select oils that are relaxing, energizing,
stress-reducing, and balancing, etc. One of the most common essential oils used in aromatherapy massage is
lavender. Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an
emotional component.
Hot Stone Massage:
Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and
balance energy centers in the body. The massage therapist may also hold stones and apply gentle pressure
with them. The warmth is comforting. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but
prefer lighter massage.
6. Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses
slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for
chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often
feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Shiatsu:
Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that uses localized finger pressure in a rhythmic sequence on
acupuncture meridians. Each point is held for for two to eight seconds to improve the flow of energy and help
the body regain balance. People are normally pleasantly surprised when they try shiatsu for the first time. It is
relaxing yet the pressure is firm, and there is usually no soreness afterwards.
Thai Massage:
Like shiatsu, Thai massage aligns the energies of the body using gentle pressure on specific points. Thai
massage also includes compressions and stretches. You don't just lie there--the therapist moves and stretches
you into a sequence of postures. It's like yoga without doing any work.
Thai massage is more energizing than other forms of massage. It is also reduces stress and improves flexibility
and range of motion.
Pregnancy Massage
Also called prenatal massage, pregnancy massage is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers.
Massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage know the proper way to position and support the
woman's body during the massage, and how to modify techniques. Pregnancy massage is used to reduce
stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is
customized to a woman's individual needs.
7. Reflexology:
Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology
involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body.
Reflexology is very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day or just have tired, achy feet
.
Sports Massage:
Sports massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. But you don't have
to be a professional athlete to have one-it's also used by people who are active and work out often. The
focus
Isn't on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. Combinations of
techniques are used. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish massage. Facilitated stretching is a
common technique. It helps to loosen muscles and increase flexibility.

30. CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THE SURVEY:
Mostly all the products are from china, Singapore, Thailand or local, no branded company produces massagers accept
Panasonic.
Price ranges from 200 to 1200 rupees.
There are minimum one and maximum eight different attachments to massage different parts of bodies.
Mostly all the massagers are vibrating type, only few varieties like Osim’s from Singapore are tapping kind.
Tapping massagers are more relaxing than vibrating once
There is not much requirement and demand for different attachments, more or less all of them give the same kind of effect.
Massing a back is very difficult while using a massager alone, u need some ones help for doing it.
The vibrations that are coming out of the massager do not give any pressure on the body, giving a very cold effect.
No pressure points are being pressed while using a vibrating massager.
