PURPOSE OF THIS TRAINING
• PROVIDE A BASIC SUMMARY OF SAFETY
  PROCEDURES AND SAFE GUARDS ASSOCIATED
  WITH HAND AND POWER TOOLS

• IDENTIFY AND ELIMINATE TOOL RELATED
  ACCIDENTS AND HAZARDS.
Five Basic Safety Rules

1. Keep all tools in good condition.
2. Use the right tool for the job.
3. Inspect all tools before and after use for
   damage.
4. Operate all tools IAW manufacturers
   instructions.
5. Use proper safety equipment required for the
   assigned task.
Hazards Of Hand Tools


 Don’t use a chisel as a screw driver, tip my break off and injure someone.
 Hammers, axes and other tools with loose, splintered or cracked handles may cuase the the
  heads to fly off and injure someone.
 Iron/Steel hand tools can cause sparks which could be an ignition source.
 Employees using tools with sharp blades should direct the tool away from themselves or isle
  areas.
Power Tool Hazards

   Never Carry Tool By the Cord.
   Don’t yank the cord from the receptacle to disconnect it.
   Disconnect tools when not using them.
   Secure work with clamps and Vises.
   Wear proper safety equipment.
   Follow instructions in user’s manual.
   Remove all damaged electric tools from use and tag them.
   Don’t remove tool safety guards.
   Don’t use power tools in damp or rainy conditions.
   Ensure power tool cords don’t become tripping hazards.
Gasoline Operated Tools

   Shut down engine and allow to cool before filling gas tank.
   Ensure adequate ventilation when using gas operated tools in confined spaces.
   Handle, transport and store gas in approved storage containers.
   Fuels vapors can burn or explode and give off dangerous exhaust fumes.
   No smoking around flammable liquids.
