Examples Of Idealism In Frankenstein
Initially, the creature has a mind that revolves around idealistic perceptions. These perceptions
came into the picture due to the creatures encounters with humanity. Victor Frankenstein for
example, abandoned the monster at birth, consequently leading to the creature s inevitable
distress: But where were my friends and relations? No father had watched my infant days, no
mother had blessed me with the smiles and caresses;...All my past life was now a blot, a blind
vacancy in which I distinguished nothing (101). This feeling of distress was accompanied by the
monster s longing for a family or companion. This sense of loneliness sparked by Victor s immoral
actions is what led to the monster s first idealistic perception. A perception that regarded the belief
that he could mutually and happily coexist with other humans. A symbolic representation of this is
exact idea is the monsters second encounter with humanity, an encounter which occurs after the
monster has had time to ponder and fantasize about his idealistic perceptions. Confidently and
proudly, the monster enters a village full of humans: But I had hardly placed my foot within the
door before the children shrieked. And one of the women fainted. (74) expecting his idealistic belief
to be the truthhe was once again disappointed and so he creature s idealistic beliefs are questioned.
Despite this heartbreaking encounter with humanity, the monster s idealistic perceptions and
beliefs only increase further. He alters his

Commitment Of The Individual Essay
Commitment of the Individual
Washburn campus has a very appealing atmosphere for veterans starting school. As a veteran,
estimated success in graduation is much higher than a standard student coming out of high school.
All thou most veterans are looking for an education specific to a career, Washburn University s
methods towards veterans is a contributing factor. From an intro course set up specifically for
veterans, to financial assistance programs, the atmosphere encourages a positive attitude. All that is
needed is the resolution of the individual.

Theodore s persistence towards accomplishing what he set out to, was a driving force for those

every principle herein laid down. Even after Theodore lost the 1912 election, the driving motive
for Theodore to start the expedition to the River of Doubt, he still took it upon himself to do
something about the issues he saw around him. Over all, I would recommend this book to anyone
interested in learning about Theodore Roosevelt, and it isn t hard to read.
With all of this to occupy Theodore s time, it is interesting to note that in the years following, he
also became worked with The American Historical Association as president there. The American
Historical Association s website has Theodore s presidential address in December
of 1912. From this annual address, History as Literature2, Theodore goes at this with the equal
effort to do achieve. When considering the event going on at the same time for Theodore, it is a
testimony to his will that he was able to lead the oldest American society of professors and

Leonardo Da Vinci s Influence On Aviation
Flight Physics
Leonardo da Vinci improved our knowledge of flight by persisting and following his dreams
even though we still today have yet to comprehend the full meaning of flight and how it works.
Due to his never ceasing effort, we now have a vast variety of flying machines and thanks to his
passion to this impossible feat, it seems as if we can do anything when it comes to flight
Leonardo da Vinci was Famous for many things In his lifetime from painting the Mona Lisa to
making the first tank, But probably the most interesting and fascinating thing about him was his
view on aviation. he did many things to improve his knowledge of flight. he invented many things

leonardo s ideas and inventions of flight vividly show he wanted to soar. Yet did he know that
2000 years later his inventions will bring humans into this the vault of heaven. His parachute
was a major success as it is still being used today as a tool for the military and a source of
excitement! (5 things Leonardo da Vinci did to change the world, ZME Science, 2008) His
ornithopter influenced modern day planes and how they functioned. So in effect, if it was not
for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead
of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by
his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man
in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been
constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could
not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led
him to design the world s first parachute. In the long run, leonardo da vinci did so much more
than just change the world of aviation for generations to come, he changed the world by leading
others to follow in his footsteps. Leonardo da Vinci is a prime example of inspiration, courage, and
creativity for just about anybody that has a goal in mind

The Horror of Child Sexual Abuse and the Catholic Church.
Early Sunday morning, people shuffle in through the mahogany doors as the smell of
Frankincense and Myrrh tickle the nose. Rays of sunlight beam through the stained glass
windows, making rainbow images on the red velvet carpet. What sounds like the voices of
angels singing praise to the lord harmoniously circulates in the air. A mighty voice roars from the
altar, Now, let us bow our heads in prayer. This is a majestic place where one can find peace,
confess sins and thank the lord for all of the blessings he has bestowed upon them.
In May of 1992, all of this would change, as Catholicism would be thrust to its knees. A story
concerning a Catholic Priest sparked the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawyers for the victims have obtained a 69 page document outlining sexual abuse protocol. This
document written in 1962, possessing the seal of Pope John XXIII, blatantly states the church
should be protected at any cost and those who choose to ignore the secret of the Holy Office are in
jeopardy of excommunication. There are also questions concerning poor judgment applied at the
Diocese level:
During a deposition, Bishop Thomas L. Dupre stated that he reassigned Rev. Richard Meehan to
administrative duties following his removal from a local parish after abusing a child. He not
only had access to sexual abuse files but also destroyed confidential files pertaining to sexual
abuse cases that were kept in a secured area. Furthermore, Rev. James J. Scahill insists that he was
present in a meeting where Bishop Dupre stated his parish was not only safe but also fortunate
because the late Bishop Christopher J. Weldon had destroyed many files implicating priests of
child sexual abuse, before he died in 1982 ( Spotlight Investigation ).
After the unsealing of church records, it was found that the Catholic Church was well aware of the
dark history surrounding some of its priests. In addition, a vast number of child sexual abuse
complaints were found, implicating several hundred Catholic priests.

Sociological Imagination Summary
In chapter one of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills writes, Seldom aware of the
intricate connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history,
ordinary people do not usually know what this connection means for the kinds of people they are
becoming and for the kinds of history making in which they might take part (Mills). Essentially,
Mills is saying that people have tunnel vision when they do not use the sociological imagination,
which is the awareness of the connection between an individual s experience and the history of
society. We tend to only focus on what is directly affecting us while staying unaware of what is
affecting our entire society. We do not see that all of our significant life events are merely products
of history. I find value in Mills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without a sociological view, the average person would see that my parents left the Philippines for
personal reasons. They wanted to raise a family and give their children a better life, so they
immigrated to America. Now, using what Mills calls the sociological imagination, it becomes clear
that my parents actually left the Philippines due to a cultural aspect affecting their country and
society. Basically, in the Filipino culture, families take care of their elders so there are few nursing
homes in the country. My mother is a physical therapist who works in nursing homes, so she would
not have had a job in the Philippines. In America, however, there are plenty of nursing homes
meaning more working opportunities for my mother, thus my parents immigrated to America. The
culture and history of Filipino society is the main reason that I grew up in America, not just because
my parents wanted a better life. With the sociological imagination, people can learn more about
themselves by understanding how the history of the world has affected

Family Is Family Essay
Family is what you make it. When someone asks you, who is in your family how do you
answer? Do you tell them your mother? Your father? Sisters and Brothers? Do you tell them you
don t have any? Do you say I have family but they are not blood? Do you simply tell them you are
alone in the world? Who and what do you consider family? Family is not a mother that leaves her
child with its grandparents to sell herself to men for drugs. A mother that gives up custody of her
children, and dumps them on other family members to one day not return. A mother that makes her
six year old daughter stand on the street corner, and beg for money. A mother that tries to kill her
child by beating her head into a bed frame, until her head looks like hamburger meat. A mother that
starves her child so that she can have her next fix. A mother that cut all ties with her children, until
she needs something.
Family is not a father that rather forget about his daughter. A father that is forced to spend time
with his child. A father that spends all his time with his children from his second wife. A father that
works less than ten miles from his child, but can t even stop by to say hi. A father that drinks too
much. A father that goes twenty years without speaking to his child.
Family is not brothers and sisters that bully you. Siblings that tell you that you are ugly, and kick
you while you are down. Siblings that make fun of the cloths you wear. Siblings that lie to the
court, and take your child

How Did Thomas Aquinas Contribute To The Catholic Church
Even before the birth of whom would be a major contributor in the foundation of the Catholic
Church a prophecy was brought before his mother. According to this prophecy, Thomas Aquinas the
son of Landulph, count of Aquino, would enter the Order of Friars Preachers, become a great
learner and achieve unequaled sanctity. (Biography.com) His knowledge and wit began to shine at
an early age when Thomas was sent to the Abbey of Monte Cassino to train among Benedictine
monks. That was until he turned 13 and the economic fall lead to him returning to his home in
Naples, Italy. Thomas did not let this stop him. He continued in his studies and found an interest in
Aristotles work, this strengthened his curiosity for the field of philosophy. (St thomasaquinas.org)

The Bracero Program War creates all kinds of hardships on everyone involved whether it is

The contracts were to be written in Spanish but often times they were written in English and the

cause for the termination of the Bracero Program. A prevalent event to the termination of the
program was the increased popularity of the cotton harvester. The cotton harvester was actually

until 1949 and by 1960 cotton harvesters were utilized more than laborers themselves (Holley).

Andrew Luth What Is Orthodox Theology Analysis
Andrew Louth in his article What is theology? , warns that there is a danger of setting theology
down alongside all other academic studies and assuming that theologia is one of them. The
difference being the very purpose of the study. Yet within this specific discipline, namely theology,
it entails a dimension beyond the disciplines of all other human learning, that academes must bear
witness to. To consider theologyas simply the study of Godin scholastic terms, will almost 1
inevitably lead into all sorts of possible misuse of a theologian s apparent theophany. These
knowings about God cannot be presented without making clear that at its heart there is an

If we seek to understand it, we will only understand in part. But there is something to understand
nonetheless, and such understanding is what we might well call theology.21
In the Orthodox Church and tradition, theology has a very different meaning from the one we give
it today. It is a gift from God, a fruit of the purity of the Christian s spiritual life. Theology is
identified with the vision of God, with the immediate vision of the personal God, with the personal
experience of the transfiguration of creation by uncreated grace. Theology is not a theory of the
world, a metaphysical system ... not an intellectual discipline but an experiential participation, a
communion. 22
Revelation is also preserved in the church. The church today is a great, living storehouse of the
knowledge of God. From within the church revelation can sprout an inner revelation. In the church
the fullness of her understanding is given through doctrine, but, the knowledge of this world is
always only partial, awaiting the fullest revelation in the Parousia. It is very important to

Hillside Strangler Case Solution
The Hillside Strangler was the name given to two killers who strangled and killed their victims,
dumping their bodies in the hills of Los Angeles. These killings took place during October 1977
and February 1978, involving ten young women ranging from ages 12 to 28. With over one
hundred law enforcement task force members working to solve this case, the fear within the
community was undeniably present. It wasn t long before the clues would come in one by one,
helping detectives solve this heinous crime. Once two sets of DNA was revealed on the crime
scenes, policerealized they had not just one, but two killers. The killers were later discovered to
be cousins Kenneth Alessio Bianchi and Angelo Anthony Buono. Kenneth Bianchi was born in
Rochester, New York to a prostitute mother and was given up for adoption when he was born.
His upbringing was normal, but he was known to be a pathological liar. He had a fantasy about
joining the police force, but when he applied both in New York and Los Angeles, he was rejected.
In 1975 Bianchi decided to move to Los Angeles to stay with his role model and older cousin
Angelo Buono. He ends up living with Buono, becoming a part of his sexual urges, and
ultimately killing innocent women. Angelo Buono was also born in Rochester, New York to
Italian immigrant parents, and moved to Glendale California when he was five years old. His
interest about sex started at a young age, and as a teenager had claimed to have raped several girls.

The Law Of Obligation And The Criminal Law
The English system law has been described as a common law rather than a civil law system. To
begin with, there is a significant difference between the civil and criminal law. On the one hand,
the purpose of the civil law will be to settle disputes between private s parties. On the other hand,
criminal law is the body of law that punish criminal offenses and protect the innocent.
In order to complete our essay, we will first focus on the fact that a link clearly exists between
tort and contract law. The law of tort and contract are part of the law of obligations . They are
indeed similar in nature, but, a sharp distinction can t be denied, while obligations in contract law
are set by the parties themselves, obligations in tort are set by the law. The law of obligation is a
branch of the civil law legal system.
Hence the idea, that similarities and differences can be demonstrate between the law of obligation
and the criminal law.
Firstly, both contract and tort law are both delimited by obligations and usually deal with a duty
that has been breached. Liabilities are part of the civil liability responsibility.
The nature of obligation in a contractual relationship is established by the terms of the contract.
The parties must respect their duties or liabilities arising out of the obligation undertaken by the
contract. A breach of contract is a breach of a legal obligation. In tort law, the nature of the
obligation is not agreed between the parties, but arises by virtue

The Causes Of Maternal Mortality And Morbidity
It is estimated that 529, 000 maternal deaths occur globally every year in developing countries.
The probability that a woman will die during pregnancy is 400 per 100,000 live births. The risk is
higher in sub Saharan Africa with 1,000 per 100,000 live births. The death of a woman during
pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period, is known as maternal mortality, occurs in 99% of
all developing countries (WHO, 2015).
According to the World Health Organization, the causes of maternal mortality and morbidity in Sub
Saharan Africa are mainly results of a defective health system when it comes to dealing with
complications during and after birth. The complications that contribute greatly to maternal
mortality include hemorrhage, infection, high blood pressure, unsafe abortions, and obstructed
labor. These complications are the leading causes of death among women aged 15 to 49 in
developing countries.
Kenya is a country that has been making a lot of progress in approaching some of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDG) and certain health indicators. However, reducing maternal mortality
still remains a challenge in this nation. The reason behind this slow progression results from the
interaction of social, cultural, economic and logistical barriers, combined with a high fertility rate
(World Bank), and inadequate and under funded health services (WHO). Strengthening the health
system and improving quality of healthcare delivery can overcome these challenges.

The Theoretical Relevance Of Marx s Theory Of Alienation
The theoretical relevance of Marx s theory of alienation has been the subject of much contention
since the posthumous publication of his Economic and Philosophical manuscripts in (). While the
notion of alienation, along with its distinctly Hegelian underpinnings, has frequently been
dismissed as a youthful error in comparison with Marx s supposedly more mature work, I argue
that it is fundamental to his critique of capitalism. As Sayers (p.xi) notes, After his early period,
Marx did not often use the term it and much other Hegelian language is for the most part
abandoned. Nevertheless, the concept of alienation is implicit throughout Marx s work, and it
continues to provide a major basis for his understanding of capitalism and for his critique of the
impact of the market . It is important to relate Marx s philosophical project back to the always
implicit notion of alienation as a set of relations between people and as a mode of being in the
material world specific to capital(ism), otherwise there is a risk of overlooking the human
relationships that underpin the capitalist mode of production. As Ollman () points out, By
dismissing the essential human relations, the basic relations of alienation which underly capitalist
production, its surface relations become everything (p.202). So, in dismissing the human
relationships that maintain a given mode of production, it is reified thus, any critique that does not
take this into consideration fails to address the matter

Who Is Weng In The River s Song
Becoming good at a skill for most people takes many steps, and for some those steps aren t exactly
alike. The character Weng, in Suchen Christine Lim s novel The River s Song, exemplifies this.
The novel often switches perspectives between main characters, Ping and Weng, and moves back
and forth through time. Largely based around music, this novel follows both characters through
where their musical journey takes them. Pings journey takes her to America to teach music,
separating her from Weng for much of their adult lives. The novel is set in Singapore for much of
the story, and centers around the cleaning up of their river there, where many people work and live,
including Weng. This cleaning up of the river largely contributes to his musical... Show more

After nine months in prison, he is given a chance to use his talents and learn to become a well

five every day, it was practice, practice and more practice...The Training regimen was very, very
tough, the professors were top notch. If it weren t for Professor Mah Shi fei, I would ve quit
(Suchen 195). This step here is where Weng finally transitioned into the musician he is meant to
be. Music essentially became his life for awhile people who become good at anything, at some
point dedicated every waking moment to it. All the previous steps in his life led up to this point.
Chong Suk s early influence to work towards discipline allowed him the ability to stick through
all those long hours at school. Weng could not have made it through that schooling without his
father drilling it into him at an early age. His step with Ping gave him insight on how to play
with others and deal with others. Not much is mention on the school other than that passage but,
it seems reasonable to conclude that he would have to teach others in the school and learn other
things from that teaching. All this allowed him to achieve a great deal in the music community.
This is apparent by how even ping living in America had heard about him: I ve kept in touch
with the Singapore music scene as part of my professional interest, and the name of the
orchestra s principal flautist and dizi player, well known in Asian music circles, has not escaped
my notice. In fact, I ve been quietly tracking his rise to fame (Suchen 153). Ultimately through
these steps he achieved what he dreamed of and what was meant for him. He gathered praise for
his playing and Weng s fame grew as well, all traits of a good

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Essay
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, short for ECMO, is an extracorporeal system of giving
both cardiovascular and respiratory support to people whose heart and lungs can t give a sufficient
measure of gas exchange to maintain life. This may be from the result of recent cardiac surgery.
Generally, this has been utilized on kids, yet the use in adults with heartand respiratory disorders
has increased over the years. Extracorporeal is defined as occurring outside of the body. Normally
after a patient experiences a lung injury they are placed on mechanical ventilation which helps push
oxygen into the lungs. Sometimes lungs are so badly damaged to the point they are unable to

heart. This procedure can give full support of the heart and lungs. Another form of support is the
venovenous (VV) ECMO which can offer up to 80% of cardiac output gas exchange without
having cardiovascular support. For a physician to perform ECMO, they will place tubes called
cannulae into the patient to facilitate the removal and return of blood back in the body. What
dictates how to place the tubes is dependent on the patient s weight and the type of ECMO being
administered. Once the tubes are in place and machine is turned on then the patient s blood
begins to move out of the body through the drainage cannula. The blood coming from the body
into the pump is carrying very little oxygen. It is then filtrated through the pump known as an
artificial lung , where O2 is added and CO2 is removed. George Makdisi state, While outside the

Impressionism
Impressionists were seen as artists who were challenging normal and accepted concepts of color and
light. Impressionism got its start when certain painters started to use more natural methods of
painting and lighting their work, really straying from the traditional rules of academic painting and
art. In 1874, a group of artists called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors, Printmakers, etc.
put together an exhibit in Paris, France(4). Subsequently starting the movement which we know
today as Impressionism. Its founding members included Claude Monet, and Edgar Degas among
others. The group was unified and brought together only by its independence from the official
annual Salon (the Salon was the official art exhibition of the AcadГ©mie des Beaux Arts in Paris.
The salon considered to be the greatest annual art event in the Western world beginning in 1667) (2).
While many conservative critics disapproved of their work for its unfinished and sketch like
appearance, more progressive writers and critics praised it for its depiction of modern life and
enjoyed it for its contemporary subject matter with an innovative, new and different style calling
attention to it by calling it a revolution in modern painting (3) . To further on the style and history
of Impressionism and post impressionism I will be discussing three works of art exhibiting the

not take long to produce but would not meet today s ever increasing demands. People want
faster, smoother and lifelike scenarios which make greater demands on processing speed,

to the 3d rendering and development of present day. Now since the demand is higher and price

Is Addiction A Choice

Is Addiction a Choice or a Disease?
One of the most insidious characteristics of drug addiction is a recurring desire to consume drugs
despite its negative outcomes. Addicts usually present with a compromised ability to suppress drug
seeking behaviors even when confronted with extremely adverse consequences, including social
isolation, monetary setbacks, physical discomfort or incarceration. Despite the nature of addiction
as a recurring behavior, there are persisting arguments that addiction is not a choice but a disease,
and that the addict does not have any voluntary control over the condition. Contrary to this
argument, Sussman and Sussman (2011) clearly articulate addiction as an engagement in a

Addiction does not have any infectious agent and is not biologically degenerative. Additionally,
it does not have any pathological process, which casts serious doubts over its being a disease. On
the other hand, empirical evidence has found that not only are addicts able to regulate their
addiction, they are also able to alter their addictive behaviors to align them with real world issues
and challenges. The risk taking behaviors exhibited by addicts have a behavioral beginning, and
can explain the behavioral etiology of addiction. The fact that most research points out the
behavioral basis of addiction, and laws that have been instituted to prevent addictions. This
especially pertains to chemical substances, indicates that prevailing understanding in both the
scholarly and legal realms, considers addiction as voluntary and a matter of choice. Therefore, the
argument that addictive behaviors are biologically mediated, is inaccurate, because not only can
addictive behaviors be regulated, they can be give up with enough will power. The description of
addiction underlines the role of conscious choice that is inherent in the addictive behavior, and
therefore it can be concluded that addiction is a choice and not a

Essay On Gerrymandering
When looking at a map of the United States, it can be seen that it is very cut and dry. The borders
of states are straight, cut at right angles, and distributes the land proportionally. The same cannot be
seen or said for Congressional districts. The intention is to evenly divide up the States even further
but instead, it is based on the state populations. It can also be apparent that the drawing of the
districts in recent years has been less than about population numbers, but as to who the population
votes for. Representation including district boundaries is known as the practice of gerrymandering.
So in the process of setting districts, gerrymandering is a practice attempting to establish a political

came as a result of discriminatory representation in the state of Alabama. This case however,

group to unlikely win. Only when race seems to be the predominant factor in the apportionment,
do these redistribution schemes face any legal action, being at risk with the 14th Amendment. It is
very easily possible to give a win to a minority party because of these practices. In North Carolina,

Mobile Shopping In Mobile E-Commerce
Introduction
With evolving technologies and digital innovation, mobile e commerce is rapidly growing. Mobile
devices, especially smartphones, have revolutionized the online shopping experience with time and
seems like it s just the beginning to the frontier.
M commerce is shopping through a mobile device smartphones or tablets. This experience is
becoming a habit for many consumers. According to a study among 1,000 US merchants, 16% of
them already have an established mobile shopping channel and 32% of them are on strategic phase
to start selling products through mobile within a year (Meola, 2016).
The mobile shopping is expected to grow bigger and bigger. As per the US Census Bureau and
comScore, in 2014, m commerce was 11.6% of the $303 billion USA e commerce total and
estimated to increase to 45% of the total e commerce value by 2020 (Meola, 2016).A large market
share with potential to grow into a billion dollars
Industry and constant technological advancements in Android and iOS operating systems will
transform m commerce very soon. This makes it critical to evaluate this EC initiative and obtain a
more holistic picture about shopping from a touch of a button.

This information is used to inform trading decisions, which often result in large profits (Woyke).

American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective

prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012). The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate
cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality
rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a
genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the
genetic predisposition so that already puts African American men in a place for higher incidence.

Live, attenuated microbes is the best option as opposed to a strain that is unable to replicate
since the live microbe allows for a self limited local infection. This infection allows for both the
innate and the adaptive immunity to respond, allowing certainty that microbial peptides coded by
both class I and class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes will be present. This calls
for a strong activation of class I and class II restricted T cell receptors with the right amount of
concentration for proper immune response to exposure. Other benefits to the live, replication
competent vaccine is that a small dose is enough which is considerably beneficial due to the
worldwide vaccination agenda required for the potential eradication of the disease. With regard to
smallpox, the innate immune system does not react to the infection, and the adaptive immunity
takes over after the amount of virus is great, making the virus viable. Vaccinia is not able to
bypass the response of innate immunity and therefore is maintained by the body in a local site. It

Mission Command In The Battle Of Tippecanoe
Mission Command in the Battle of Tippecanoe The Battle of Tippecanoe took place in 1811
between forces of the United States under the command of Indiana Territory Governor William
Henry Harrison and forces from a pan Indian movement under religious leader Tenskwatawa,
known as the prophet. The battle ended in Harrison s forces successfully repelling an attack by
Tenskwatawa s forces (Center for Military History, 2014). Harrison s exercise of good mission
command was critical to his forces victory, allowing him and his subordinate leaders to coordinate
and organize their defense and counterattack to defeat the Indian assault.
The Battle
Background
As the United States grew and expanded in the early 1800s, the settlers desire for land caused
conflict with the Indians who held that land. As a reaction, Indian leaders and brothers Tecumseh
and Tenskwatawa created a movement with members from multiple tribes and established a
community they called Prophetstown at the confluence of the Wabash and Tippecanoe Rivers in
Indiana. Tecumseh served as the military leader of the community, and Tenskwatawa served as the
spiritual leader (Center for Military History, 2014). After a treaty signed by some Indian leaders
gave territory to the Indiana territory, the brothers claimed it was illegitimate and began raids
against settlers to resist settlement of the disputed territory (Center for Military History, 2014). The

defined as a male who was a man s man that exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of
pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the years, especially in literature, the evolution of
masculinity can be directly traced through careful and considerate evaluation and analysis. As we
explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to fully understand include what exactly
it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time, and what it means to be a man in
today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a specific image is conjured
in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a great athletic physique,
and the idea of an overcomer. In a certain time period this would be exactly correct, but
masculinity has evolved and changed since this definition held true. So what exactly does it mean
to be a man? There are a plethora of answers to this question when looking only at one society, let
alone the entire world. However, when looking at American

Compare And Contrast Superintendent And School Board...
Superintendent and School Board Relationships Simple arithmetic is not an easy task. Just like
some students have difficulties with basic mathematics skills, so does the Superintendent. This is
not to say that the Superintendent cannot do basic math. What this is really comparing is the
challenging undertaking involved in counting four out of seven votes in favor of the
Superintendent s recommendations. Swaying back and forth for Board votes is timely and very
hard to accomplish, but it is an essential part of the job. Sharp and Walter (2004) explain board
members have no authority as individuals. However, together or as a majority they can be
extremely powerful in making policy. Longer tenures and more efficient working... Show more

Along the same lines, it is important that when individual board members request information it is
sent to every single member. Otherwise, the Superintendent gives up the opportunity to understand
from where each board member is coming (Effective Superintendent School Board Relations). This
to some extent could be used as informational leverage, which could help down the line when trying
to sway support. Keeping records on request is also considered very helpful when working with
Boards. It is important that they stay informed, but it is also just as valuable that they get some
feedback as to how much information they are requesting. They may tend to back off from
requesting so much information. Regardless as to how and how often, the Superintendent must
establish a communication system. Boards do not like surprises. It undermines board members
trust, and makes them look bad, when they hear information about the district from another source
(Effective Superintendent School Board Relations). Getting the Boards trust can assist in creating a
team concept. In any relationship, whether it is at home or work trust is essential for success. Trust
is fundamental to all working relationships. Superintendents must be able to develop trust so that
all members feel united in working toward a common goal. Many times, the demise of a
Superintendent School Board relationship can

Psychological Theories Of Behavioral Finance
Behavioural Finance
Introduction
Behavioural finance is a relatively new area of evolving research in finance. Behavioural finance
seek to combine behavioural and cognitive psychological theory with conventional economics and
finance to get a better understanding for why individual investors make irrational financial
decisions.
According to Sewell (2007), Behavioural finance is the study of the influence of psychology on the
behaviour of financial practitioners and the subsequent effect on markets. The science focuses on
the effects of individual investors making decisions based on hunches or emotions.
Ritter (2003, p.429), describes behavioural finance is based on psychology which suggests that
human decision processes are subject to several cognitive illusions. These illusions are divided into
two groups as illusions caused by heuristic decision process and illusions rooted from the adoption
of mental frames grouped in the prospect theory (Waweru et al., 2008, p.27)
People may make predictable, non optimal choices when faced with difficult and uncertain
decisions because of heuristic simplification. Behavioral biases, abstractly, are defined in the same
way as systematic errors are, in judgment (Chen et al, 2007).
Behavioral finance theories, which are based on the psychology, attempt to understand how the
psychological variables (heuristics, prospect, and herding) and perceived risk behaviour (Risk
Perception, Risk attitude and Risk Propensity) influence individual

Tsotsi Research Paper
If you were to be a victim in tsotsis life how would you see his actions? Now if you re simply
seeing it from a stranger s point of view what would you do? Well I ve come to the conclusion
that Tsotsi should be charged with 10 15 years, tsotsi is mentally ill, but that doesn t give Tsotsi
the right to do as he pleases, with his mental illness he will also get help in prison . Tsotsi is
given the best gift which is freedom, with him having freedom he ruined lives. Tsotsi caused
harm to his own friend Boston, he intimidates and uses his power to get others to do his dirty
work, and lastly tsotsi uses an innocent baby for his own good. How could you get so mad at
someone for being truthful with you? For having so much love and respect for you... Show more

Tsotsi meets this woman and she gives him a strange baby, that baby changes tsotsi for the better
yet, that baby somehow seems to pay for Tsotsis choices and for his prideful actions. On page
125 it says, first he got rid of the ants on the face. The baby awoke once in the course of this and
cried feebly .(fugard 125) This scenario clarifies that tsotsi doesn t care for the kid, how do you
leave a kid alone in a box under a bed for a whole day then come back and expect everything to be
pitch perfect? It s impossible for a baby that is months old to take care of himself. We can also
see that in the book it shows how the baby dies because its left in the ruins by Tsotsi, on page
225 it says, he got there with seconds to spare. He had enough time to drive for the corner where
the baby was hidden... then it was too late for anything; and the wall came down on top of him,
flattening him into the dust . (fugard 225) This proves that if Tsotsi never took charge of this
baby knowing he couldn t even take care of himself the baby wouldn t of died, at least not on his
watch. The baby died because tsotsi wasnt man enough to have the baby around him at all sides,
instead he chose to hide the baby and leave him unattended. He left the baby far away from him
because he was ashamed of him, if tsotsi hadn t left that baby there the baby wouldn t of been

Internal Conflicts In Alice Walker s The Color Purple
As individuals, we must understand ourselves and our personal struggles. As part of a society, we
must understand how we fit into the world around us. Consequently, we must then bridge the gap
between these two ideas. In the film adaptation of Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the main
character, Celie, discovers her individuality overtime, as she eventually finds her niche among
others (Spielberg, 1985). Through incorporating both internal conflicts and how a person relates
with the external society, The Color Purpleacts as a transitional piece, linking the unit of conflicts of
self to the unit of conflicts involving groups.
The Color Purple examines several aspects of unit one, including the difference between singular
or multiple perspectives and the subsequent impact of adding more perspectives to an issue. As
discovered in unit one, the principle of Occam s Razor, which usually favors a singular
perspective, holds that entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity, but this thought
process often oversimplifies the issue by disregarding certain aspects or details of a situation
(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015). As if adhering to Occam s Razor, Celie in the
film, rather than further complicate her situation, chooses the path of least resistance by living
the majority of her early to mid life viewing her circumstance with a singular perspective in
which the society holds that she has no choice, but to conform to its sexist expectations
(Spielberg, 1985). However, Sofia and Shug provide new, additional perspectives that fuse
together in the formation of a cyclopean image, which gives Celie greater awareness of her
situation (The Cyclopean View, n.d.; Spielberg, 1985). Through gaining these multiple
perspectives, Celie realizes the abuse she suffers and decides to take initiative against them,
eventually embracing her inner individuality and no longer submitting to the whims of every man
she encounters, as society would expect a black woman of the time to do (Spielberg, 1985). By
unveiling the power of multiple perspectives in comparison to a singular perspective, The Color
Purple coincides with a predominant topic of unit one.
Undoubtedly, The Color Purple touches on the seeming thesis

There Is An Additional Bonus Besides The Saving Of Money
There is an additional bonus besides the saving of money in the home vegetable garden
cultivation. That is the tenderness and superb flavor of vegetables we harvest and prepare for
table use when they are at their very best. Even if the cost were the same, we would happily
work our own gardens because we know that those vegetables harvested in commercial fields,
shipped to market and then used in the kitchen after a week (or more) has passed, simply cannot
be compared in flavor and quality to those we harvest in our own gardens and eat the same day!
For a continuous supply, the planting of beans at about two week intervals will keep the table
constantly supplied. One packet of Pole Beans will provide enough plants for the Small home...

If you are a nature lover and enjoy watching a flurry of hummingbirds or a wave of beautiful
butterflies fluttering around your yard, a natural choice of landscaping would be butterfly
bushes. These beautiful, amazingly delicate bushes will attract nature s tiniest creatures and
give you a front row seat for their dancing performances. Butterfly bushes come in a variety of
colors that will highlight or accent any garden design. Hues of gold, blue, purple or pink flowers
grow rapidly on these hearty green shrubs. Even the most inexperienced gardener will delight in
the production of amazing flower s with just nominal care. Butterfly bushes grow rapidly, so one
must be careful in selecting the right place to display them. For use in a small flower garden, the
butterfly bush should take center attention. It s regal flowers will be a proud display, and a definite
eye catcher. Plant the butterfly bush center stage, then add smaller annuals around it. The annuals
should be a complimentary color to the butterfly bush. If your butterfly bush produces dark rich
purple flowers, consider adding lighter purple, or even pink, petunia waves in a circle around it.
If you want a bolder statement, plant several butterfly bushes of various colors down the side of
your flower garden or fence. These plants will grow and come together as a

Essay on Biography of Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia at midnight between July 9th and 10th 1856. He was
intelligent since his early childhood. He soon became interested in engineering and he studied it
at the Technical University in Graz, Austria, from 1877 to 1880. Right after that he went to the
University of Prague in 1880, but his father had died and he withdrew his studies from the
University soon after. Tesla always dreamed of becoming an electrical engineer and to invent a
new type of power transmission instead of Direct Current (DC). He mourned for his father for
about a year, but he had to return to his work. In 1881 he went to Budapest to work as an engineer

By about 1895 Tesla became a poor man due to a number of failed inventions, so he tried to get a

Essay On Electronic Vehicle Control
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ESC systems sense parameters such as yaw rate, steering
wheel angle and lateral acceleration in order to detect differences between the intended and
actual path of the vehicle. The system is then linked to the ABS and engine management system
in order to differentially apply the brakes and/or reduce the engine power to individual wheels,
thus generating yaw moments to correct the vehicles path. These systems are known by a
variety of other proprietary names such as Vehicle Dynamic Controller (VDC) and Vehicle
Stability Control (VSC) but are referred to generically as ESC in this report. Market penetration
of ESC systems was estimated at 27% in Europe in 2002, and is expected to reach 50% in Europe
by 2007 (Reed Electronics Research, 2003). Previous research indicates that ESC significantly
reduced instability in test manoeuvres where substantial instability was encountered. It also
suggests that ESC does not influence vehicle behaviour when a driver attempts to operate outside
the physical limits of the vehicle. No significant disbenefits of ESC systems were found, and clear
evidence of positive influence on safety and accident reduction was cited (Grover Knight, 2005).
ESC is also now strongly recommended to all consumers by the EuroNCAP organisation
(EuroNCAP, 2005). It is suggested that ESC must work to constrain vehicle behaviour to that
expected by normal human driving behaviour. It does this either by producing similar

Biomedical Engineering Personal Statement
Homo sapiens are known to be the most advanced creatures on Earth, the number of humans in the
world is exponentially increasing to nearly over seven billion as 250 babies are born every minute
and with the population increasing by almost 3 people per second. Life relies solely upon the
biomedical sciences. It s an area of expertise that is constantly advancing out, therefore to study the
convolution of the humanbody and to contribute to such a field has lead me to apply to Biomedical
Sciences at University.
My interest in Biomedical Science came in a school run extended project scheme in which I
devised a study of genetic modification of the human body. I found that I was fascinated by
whether the survival of an organism was based on one s genome or one s environment. For
example, I did research on Michael Phelps, an eight time olympic gold medalist, who has said to
have genetic advantages over other olympic athletes. For instance, he is double jointed in the chest
which enables him to extend his arms higher above his head and pull down at an angle that
increases his efficiency through the water by 20% allowing him to make quicker starts and turns.
The research gave me an insight of how complex and sublime the inner structures and workings of
the human body are, therefore has fuelled my desire to study the physiology of human bodies

  • 2. Examples Of Idealism In Frankenstein Initially, the creature has a mind that revolves around idealistic perceptions. These perceptions came into the picture due to the creatures encounters with humanity. Victor Frankenstein for example, abandoned the monster at birth, consequently leading to the creature s inevitable distress: But where were my friends and relations? No father had watched my infant days, no mother had blessed me with the smiles and caresses;...All my past life was now a blot, a blind vacancy in which I distinguished nothing (101). This feeling of distress was accompanied by the monster s longing for a family or companion. This sense of loneliness sparked by Victor s immoral actions is what led to the monster s first idealistic perception. A perception that regarded the belief that he could mutually and happily coexist with other humans. A symbolic representation of this is exact idea is the monsters second encounter with humanity, an encounter which occurs after the monster has had time to ponder and fantasize about his idealistic perceptions. Confidently and proudly, the monster enters a village full of humans: But I had hardly placed my foot within the door before the children shrieked. And one of the women fainted. (74) expecting his idealistic belief to be the truthhe was once again disappointed and so he creature s idealistic beliefs are questioned. Despite this heartbreaking encounter with humanity, the monster s idealistic perceptions and beliefs only increase further. He alters his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet did he know that 2000 years later his inventions will bring humans into this the vault of heaven. His parachute was a major success as it is still being used today as a tool for the military and a source of excitement! (5 things Leonardo da Vinci did to change the world, ZME Science, 2008) His ornithopter influenced modern day planes and how they functioned. So in effect, if it was not for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led him to design the world s first parachute. In the long run, leonardo da vinci did so much more than just change the world of aviation for generations to come, he changed the world by leading others to follow in his footsteps. Leonardo da Vinci is a prime example of inspiration, courage, and creativity for just about anybody that has a goal in mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early Sunday morning, people shuffle in through the mahogany doors as the smell of Frankincense and Myrrh tickle the nose. Rays of sunlight beam through the stained glass windows, making rainbow images on the red velvet carpet. What sounds like the voices of angels singing praise to the lord harmoniously circulates in the air. A mighty voice roars from the altar, Now, let us bow our heads in prayer. This is a majestic place where one can find peace, confess sins and thank the lord for all of the blessings he has bestowed upon them. This document written in 1962, possessing the seal of Pope John XXIII, blatantly states the church should be protected at any cost and those who choose to ignore the secret of the Holy Office are in jeopardy of excommunication. There are also questions concerning poor judgment applied at the Diocese level: During a deposition, Bishop Thomas L. Dupre stated that he reassigned Rev. Richard Meehan to administrative duties following his removal from a local parish after abusing a child. He not only had access to sexual abuse files but also destroyed confidential files pertaining to sexual abuse cases that were kept in a secured area. Furthermore, Rev. James J. Scahill insists that he was present in a meeting where Bishop Dupre stated his parish was not only safe but also fortunate because the late Bishop Christopher J. Weldon had destroyed many files implicating priests of child sexual abuse, before he died in 1982 ( Spotlight Investigation ). After the unsealing of church records, it was found that the Catholic Church was well aware of the dark history surrounding some of its priests. In addition, a vast number of child sexual abuse complaints were found, implicating several hundred Catholic priests. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wright Mills writes, Seldom aware of the intricate connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history, ordinary people do not usually know what this connection means for the kinds of people they are becoming and for the kinds of history making in which they might take part (Mills). Essentially, Mills is saying that people have tunnel vision when they do not use the sociological imagination, which is the awareness of the connection between an individual s experience and the history of society. Without a sociological view, the average person would see that my parents left the Philippines for personal reasons. They wanted to raise a family and give their children a better life, so they immigrated to America. Now, using what Mills calls the sociological imagination, it becomes clear that my parents actually left the Philippines due to a cultural aspect affecting their country and society. Basically, in the Filipino culture, families take care of their elders so there are few nursing homes in the country. My mother is a physical therapist who works in nursing homes, so she would not have had a job in the Philippines. In America, however, there are plenty of nursing homes meaning more working opportunities for my mother, thus my parents immigrated to America. • 16. The Law Of Obligation And The Criminal Law The English system law has been described as a common law rather than a civil law system. To begin with, there is a significant difference between the civil and criminal law. On the one hand, the purpose of the civil law will be to settle disputes between private s parties. On the other hand, criminal law is the body of law that punish criminal offenses and protect the innocent. In order to complete our essay, we will first focus on the fact that a link clearly exists between tort and contract law. The law of tort and contract are part of the law of obligations . They are indeed similar in nature, but, a sharp distinction can t be denied, while obligations in contract law are set by the parties themselves, obligations in tort are set by the law. The law of obligation is a branch of the civil law legal system. Hence the idea, that similarities and differences can be demonstrate between the law of obligation and the criminal law. Firstly, both contract and tort law are both delimited by obligations and usually deal with a duty that has been breached. Liabilities are part of the civil liability responsibility. The nature of obligation in a contractual relationship is established by the terms of the contract. The probability that a woman will die during pregnancy is 400 per 100,000 live births. The risk is higher in sub Saharan Africa with 1,000 per 100,000 live births. The death of a woman during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period, is known as maternal mortality, occurs in 99% of all developing countries (WHO, 2015). According to the World Health Organization, the causes of maternal mortality and morbidity in Sub Saharan Africa are mainly results of a defective health system when it comes to dealing with complications during and after birth. The complications that contribute greatly to maternal mortality include hemorrhage, infection, high blood pressure, unsafe abortions, and obstructed labor. These complications are the leading causes of death among women aged 15 to 49 in developing countries. Kenya is a country that has been making a lot of progress in approaching some of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and certain health indicators. However, reducing maternal mortality still remains a challenge in this nation. The reason behind this slow progression results from the interaction of social, cultural, economic and logistical barriers, combined with a high fertility rate (World Bank), and inadequate and under funded health services (WHO). The Theoretical Relevance Of Marx s Theory Of Alienation The theoretical relevance of Marx s theory of alienation has been the subject of much contention since the posthumous publication of his Economic and Philosophical manuscripts in (). While the notion of alienation, along with its distinctly Hegelian underpinnings, has frequently been dismissed as a youthful error in comparison with Marx s supposedly more mature work, I argue that it is fundamental to his critique of capitalism. As Sayers (p.xi) notes, After his early period, Marx did not often use the term it and much other Hegelian language is for the most part abandoned. Nevertheless, the concept of alienation is implicit throughout Marx s work, and it continues to provide a major basis for his understanding of capitalism and for his critique of the impact of the market . It is important to relate Marx s philosophical project back to the always implicit notion of alienation as a set of relations between people and as a mode of being in the material world specific to capital(ism), otherwise there is a risk of overlooking the human relationships that underpin the capitalist mode of production. As Ollman () points out, By dismissing the essential human relations, the basic relations of alienation which underly capitalist production, its surface relations become everything (p.202). For a physician to perform ECMO, they will place tubes called cannulae into the patient to facilitate the removal and return of blood back in the body. Once the tubes are in place and machine is turned on then the patient s blood begins to move out of the body through the drainage cannula. In this essay, using the example of the comedy Midsummer Night s Dream , we will try to argue that the writer uses the notion of love as a metaphor, in order to explore certain topics concerning human feelings. This play was written in 1595 1596, probably a little later than Romeo and Juliet and deals with the marriage of Theseus, Duke of Athens and Hippolyta, the Amazon queen as well as all the surrounding events. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a prostate cancerincidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African American men that increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants, which is the most commonly seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012). The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. First, a low cost, heat stable vaccineand a bifurcated needle to go with it. Second, a disease that is easily diagnosed due to its signature rash. Live, attenuated microbes is the best option as opposed to a strain that is unable to replicate since the live microbe allows for a self limited local infection. This infection allows for both the innate and the adaptive immunity to respond, allowing certainty that microbial peptides coded by both class I and class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes will be present. This calls for a strong activation of class I and class II restricted T cell receptors with the right amount of concentration for proper immune response to exposure. Other benefits to the live, replication competent vaccine is that a small dose is enough which is considerably beneficial due to the worldwide vaccination agenda required for the potential eradication of the disease. With regard to smallpox, the innate immune system does not react to the infection, and the adaptive immunity takes over after the amount of virus is great, making the virus viable. Mission Command In The Battle Of Tippecanoe Mission Command in the Battle of Tippecanoe The Battle of Tippecanoe took place in 1811 between forces of the United States under the command of Indiana Territory Governor William Henry Harrison and forces from a pan Indian movement under religious leader Tenskwatawa, known as the prophet. The battle ended in Harrison s forces successfully repelling an attack by Tenskwatawa s forces (Center for Military History, 2014). Harrison s exercise of good mission command was critical to his forces victory, allowing him and his subordinate leaders to coordinate and organize their defense and counterattack to defeat the Indian assault. The Battle Background As the United States grew and expanded in the early 1800s, the settlers desire for land caused conflict with the Indians who held that land. As a reaction, Indian leaders and brothers Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa created a movement with members from multiple tribes and established a community they called Prophetstown at the confluence of the Wabash and Tippecanoe Rivers in Indiana. Tecumseh served as the military leader of the community, and Tenskwatawa served as the spiritual leader (Center for Military History, 2014). They often want to talk about how they missed having real fathers, real loving, present fathers, because of the way that they tried to fit the picture of masculinity (Steinem). This particular idea of masculinity is a much more modern interpretation that has changed drastically over the centuries. Masculinity used to be defined as a male who was a man s man that exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the years, especially in literature, the evolution of masculinity can be directly traced through careful and considerate evaluation and analysis. As we explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to fully understand include what exactly it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time, and what it means to be a man in today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a specific image is conjured in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a great athletic physique, and the idea of an overcomer. Behavioural finance seek to combine behavioural and cognitive psychological theory with conventional economics and finance to get a better understanding for why individual investors make irrational financial decisions. According to Sewell (2007), Behavioural finance is the study of the influence of psychology on the behaviour of financial practitioners and the subsequent effect on markets. The science focuses on the effects of individual investors making decisions based on hunches or emotions. Ritter (2003, p.429), describes behavioural finance is based on psychology which suggests that human decision processes are subject to several cognitive illusions. These illusions are divided into two groups as illusions caused by heuristic decision process and illusions rooted from the adoption of mental frames grouped in the prospect theory (Waweru et al., 2008, p.27) People may make predictable, non optimal choices when faced with difficult and uncertain decisions because of heuristic simplification. Behavioral biases, abstractly, are defined in the same way as systematic errors are, in judgment (Chen et al, 2007). • 50. Internal Conflicts In Alice Walker s The Color Purple As individuals, we must understand ourselves and our personal struggles. As part of a society, we must understand how we fit into the world around us. Consequently, we must then bridge the gap between these two ideas. In the film adaptation of Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the main character, Celie, discovers her individuality overtime, as she eventually finds her niche among others (Spielberg, 1985). Through incorporating both internal conflicts and how a person relates with the external society, The Color Purpleacts as a transitional piece, linking the unit of conflicts of self to the unit of conflicts involving groups. The Color Purple examines several aspects of unit one, including the difference between singular or multiple perspectives and the subsequent impact of adding more perspectives to an issue. As discovered in unit one, the principle of Occam s Razor, which usually favors a singular perspective, holds that entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity, but this thought process often oversimplifies the issue by disregarding certain aspects or details of a situation (The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica, 2015). As if adhering to Occam s Razor, Celie in the film, rather than further complicate her situation, chooses the path of least resistance by living the majority of her early to mid life viewing her circumstance with a singular perspective in which the society holds that she has no choice, but to conform to its sexist expectations (Spielberg, 1985). However, Sofia and Shug provide new, additional perspectives that fuse together in the formation of a cyclopean image, which gives Celie greater awareness of her situation (The Cyclopean View, n.d.; Spielberg, 1985). Through gaining these multiple perspectives, Celie realizes the abuse she suffers and decides to take initiative against them, eventually embracing her inner individuality and no longer submitting to the whims of every man she encounters, as society would expect a black woman of the time to do (Spielberg, 1985). By unveiling the power of multiple perspectives in comparison to a singular perspective, The Color Purple coincides with a predominant topic of unit one. He said that it would be used to defend of American soil; nevertheless the military rejected his offer. Tesla made one last effort to get a military contract. He would make a sending ... • 54. Essay On Electronic Vehicle Control Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ESC systems sense parameters such as yaw rate, steering wheel angle and lateral acceleration in order to detect differences between the intended and actual path of the vehicle. The system is then linked to the ABS and engine management system in order to differentially apply the brakes and/or reduce the engine power to individual wheels, thus generating yaw moments to correct the vehicles path. These systems are known by a variety of other proprietary names such as Vehicle Dynamic Controller (VDC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) but are referred to generically as ESC in this report. Market penetration of ESC systems was estimated at 27% in Europe in 2002, and is expected to reach 50% in Europe by 2007 (Reed Electronics Research, 2003). Previous research indicates that ESC significantly reduced instability in test manoeuvres where substantial instability was encountered. It also suggests that ESC does not influence vehicle behaviour when a driver attempts to operate outside the physical limits of the vehicle. No significant disbenefits of ESC systems were found, and clear evidence of positive influence on safety and accident reduction was cited (Grover Knight, 2005). ESC is also now strongly recommended to all consumers by the EuroNCAP organisation (EuroNCAP, 2005). It is suggested that ESC must work to constrain vehicle behaviour to that expected by normal human driving behaviour. It does this either by producing similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Biomedical Engineering Personal Statement Homo sapiens are known to be the most advanced creatures on Earth, the number of humans in the world is exponentially increasing to nearly over seven billion as 250 babies are born every minute and with the population increasing by almost 3 people per second. Life relies solely upon the biomedical sciences. It s an area of expertise that is constantly advancing out, therefore to study the convolution of the humanbody and to contribute to such a field has lead me to apply to Biomedical Sciences at University. My interest in Biomedical Science came in a school run extended project scheme in which I devised a study of genetic modification of the human body. I found that I was fascinated by whether the survival of an organism was based on one s genome or one s environment. For example, I did research on Michael Phelps, an eight time olympic gold medalist, who has said to have genetic advantages over other olympic athletes. For instance, he is double jointed in the chest which enables him to extend his arms higher above his head and pull down at an angle that increases his efficiency through the water by 20% allowing him to make quicker starts and turns. The research gave me an insight of how complex and sublime the inner structures and workings of the human body are, therefore has fuelled my desire to study the physiology of human bodies beyond A Level....
