The origin of the Gurjars is uncertain, but many claim descent from the Hindu Sun Dynasty and connect themselves to the deity Rama. Historically, Gurjars were sun-worshippers and established kingdoms in regions of modern-day India and Pakistan, with one kingdom centered in Bhinmal with a capital at Pilo-mo-lo. In the 18th century, several Gurjar chieftains ruled areas with populations of over 100 villages. Today, pockets of Gurjars are found in parts of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, with some following Hinduism and others following Islam.
