This document discusses applying principles of open source software development to the creation of open educational resources (OERs). It uses the development of the OER Handbook on WikiEducator as a case study. The author draws parallels between OER development and open source software development processes like having alpha/beta releases, issue tracking, and considering future editions. The author argues that using these open source development models provides benefits for OER projects like conveying that materials are constantly evolving and allowing for flexibility through versions and remixing.
