- Discuss: What are learning centers? What are learning stations? Note: One way to take notes on this is to complete a Venn Diagram comparing the two. A t-chart would also work. According to Carol Ann Tomlinson, stations are different places in the classroom where students work on tasks simultaneously, and whose activities are linked. Centers, on the other hand, are areas in the classroom where students refine a skill or extend a concept.

- Discuss: Students rotate through all of the stations after spending a specified amount of time or completing a specific task in a station. The stations are connected based on content, unit, concept, or theme.
- Discuss: Differentiated learning stations mean that there are stations specifically designed for the range of learners in the classroom. Most students will likely be grade-lvel learners. They should be able to work with minimal teacher support once they understand the task in a station. Learners in need of scaffolding will need more direct instruction and more time to complete the task in each station. The GT and advanced-level learners have already mastered the content or concept in stations A-D so they do not complete those stations; instead, there are two stations targeted to these learners that require primarily teacher monitoring.
