Anti-Trust Caution
3
• GS1 operates under the GS1 anti-trust caution. Strict compliance with
anti-trust laws is and always has been the policy of GS1.
• The best way to avoid problems is to remember that the purpose of the
group is to enhance the ability of all industry members to compete more
efficiently.
• This means:
- There shall be no discussion of prices, allocation of customers, or products,
boycotts, refusals to deal, or market share.
- If any participant believes the group is drifting toward impermissible discussion, the
topic shall be tabled until the opinion of counsel can be obtained.
• The full anti-trust caution is available via the link below, if you would like to read it in
its entirety: http://www.gs1.org/gs1-anti-trust-caution.

Traceability starts with knowing WHERE
16
• GS1 GLN offer unambiguous identification to stakeholders in Value Chains and
Transport & Logistics Networks.
• ID Keys without access to Linked Data does not add a lot of value
• The GS1 User Community NEEDS databases and services that enable
access to reliable, trusted, up-to-date information linked to Locations.
• Stakeholders (like Port of Rotterdam; PoR) need it sooner rather than later.
• Their first priority however is to be able to easily assign GLN to the relevant
locations (and link the relevant data to them).
• PoR has developed an application that delivers that easy assignment of GLN.

Why is this IMPORTANT?
23
• GLN databases and service will have
common core data elements.
• They will also have resources (groups of
data elements) that are relevant for (a)
specific domain/s
• Users in different domains will need
data entry applications that are easy for
them (targeting data relevant to them)
• GLN will often need to be linked to existing
industry identifications
• PoR Application may be basis for
domain specific GLN entry Applications

Full hierarchy of locations easily mapped using GLN
• GS1 User Community may use approach for any other domain e.g.
• (Warehouse) campus, buildings, dock-doors
• Inland terminals (Barge or Rail)
• Accurate / reliable geographical location information.
• Navigational assistants can always “find the right place”.
At last we can be sure about WHERE

PORT Trieste: A Port caught between the sea
and rocky mountains. The port and city CANNOT
handle the traffic to and from the port
• Use Cases focus on planning (ETA/ETD) to drive
optimization of processes across the various modes
of transport (both sea and land) and the port
• Also shifting cargo to Rail Mode of Transport
• Container, vehicle, intermodal unit level tracking
• Intelligent Transport Systems used in motorways
infrastructure to enable tracking and provide better
traffic information to enable better ETA.
Dry PORT Fürnitz: The clear idea is
to support from the logistic HUB in
Fürnitz + the Trieste Port in
various processes:
 Identify the containers by GS1
Standards
 Get the real time information where
the Container is
 Use our different GS1 Messages
(EANCOM, XML)
 Optimize inbound/outbound
processes at the Logistic Centre in
Fürnitz
 See different technologies
(Barcodes and RFID) working
together
Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g.
Link to Austria Pilot
• Tracking Containers via
Rail towards/from Trieste
port
• Improving/accelerating
customs clearance
processes for containers
shipped via Trieste port
 Container tracking into hinterland (especially the connection with Austria Pilot)
EPCIS; GSIN, GINC, GTIN product data may help Customs improvements,
 Track & Trace Shipments (linked to Train T&T)
EPCIS service operated by GS1 (may need to add FENIX/ConFed connector),
 Parking Slot Management (GLN opportunity maybe)
 Terminal Slot Booking (GS1 France Tool may ease connecting more carriers electronically => less manual effort)
 E-CMR pilot; link to current GS1 eCMR initiative.
© GS1 2019
Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g.
PORT of Antwerp + hinterland
Multimodal inland Hub-Procter & Gamble-
Mechelen-Willebroek pilot site across TEN-T corridors
• The scope is the transportation by barge and truck of ocean containers loaded
with P&G products, between P&G distribution centre and Antwerp Port, for both
international import and export purposes.
• This pilot develops a centralized data hub to coordinate and visualize the movement of
both empty and full containers between Antwerp port, Willebroek barge terminal and
Willebroek distribution centre.
• The problem is lack of integrated visibility on ocean carrier bookings, empty
container depot, container loading, barge capacity planning and sailing details to
Antwerp port.
• Linked activities such as dangerous goods notifications and customs clearance are
negatively impacted by this situation.
• This results in multiple manual checks, stand-alone reports, inefficiencies in operation
and customs conflicts due to non-synchronized processes.
OIA connect
• OIA Connect standardizes
data sources through
modern ETL data
transformation.
• This process can be further
standardised to facilitate
more globally / federated
architectures.
• GS1 GSIN and GINC for
container tracking will be
put in place
© GS1 2019
Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g.
PORTS : Marseille, Fos sur mer, Dunkerque, Lille - Dourges, Eurotunnel site
(Calais-Coquelles)
• This pilot site is working on the Multi Modal Transport T&L services interoperability
on the Mediterranean and the North Sea – Mediterranean TEN-T corridors
• They closely work with the French administration on dangerous goods related topics
• It will demonstrate intelligent Multi Modal Transport on the Mediterranean and the
North Sea – Mediterranean TEN-T corridors. All of these ports are Multimodal (barges,
trains, trucks, and ships).
• In FENIX, the new FENIX pilot site we will bring it a big step further by deploying
interoperability in the North and South of France between the ports of
Marseille, Fos-sur-Mer, Dunkerque, Lille, Dourges, Eurotunnel and Strasbourg.
• The French Pilot Site will continue integrating of more specifically the MyAeolix connectors, the Data
Transformation service and the toolkit for the Cargo Community service called AP+/CI5 which is
currently used in most of the ports and make it interoperable with FENIX.
• This pilot site will also integrate in the global FENIX architecture, the use cases developed in the SELIS
project (https://www.selisproject.eu/About).
The French Pilot Site
already uses:
SSCC for RORO
Unit (EAN128)
The results of European
CORE and French
GeoTransMD projects,
which have demonstrated
the feasibility of the
architecture agreed by
the UNECE-Working Party
on the Transport of
Dangerous Goods will be
considered.
The use of electronic data processing (EDP) or
electronic data interchange (EDI) techniques as an
aid to or instead of paper documentation is
permitted, provided that the procedures used for
the capture, storage and processing of electronics
data meet the legal requirements as regards the
evidential value and availability of data during
transport in a manner at least equivalent to that of
paper documentation.

FENIX and so what?
72
• Access to many new User Companies in new Industries / Sectors;
opportunities to make them aware of (GS1) standards
• Help them implement standards in innovative solutions
• Generate Case Studies from implementations
• Embed GS1 standards in Federative Infrastructure that will be the foundation of
collaboration in Value Chains involving all sorts of stakeholders:
Manufacturers, retailers, ports, parts & component suppliers,
Logistic Service Clients and Logistic Service Providers
• Ensure improvements in Supply Chains that make them
more sustainable (planet-friendly), effective and efficient
• By improving communication in intermodal transport we are directly or indirectly
helping our current user companies
© GS1 2019
What are the results we want to achieve?
73
• Embed various GS1 ID Keys in the core of the various Use Cases and Pilots.
GLN, SSCC, GTIN, GSIN, GINC
• Ensure GS1 standards are included in the core of the Federative Infrastructure
(where feasible) cutting across Pilots and Use Cases
• Embed EPCIS in a number of Pilot Sites / Use Cases as well as
cutting across Pilots and Use Cases
• Develop GLN-based services for Pilots/Use Cases; these may be extended to
become global GLN service on the GS1 Registry Platform
• GS1 to develop a proper standard for the exchange (in near-real time) of
planning/future events (Expected, Requested, Planned) next to the EPCIS Actual
events
© GS1 2019
Where the music plays?
74
• 80% of addresses in transport orders do not match with known addresses in the
repository while 95% of designated locations are known.
• Specific data on logistics locations are important for ground operations
but poorly shared and difficult to maintain
• The national scale is not sufficient, the international scale is not ready yet,
so working at an intermediate scale (Europe) seems to be the best solution.
• We need to realise the needs for standardisation in Maritime and Ports;
a lot of opportunities are emerging in this sector
GLN registry, EPCIS 2.0, Digital Link, just to name a few –
let’s step out of our FMCG comfort zone and go to where a lot of music plays
FENIX will take care of first steps in this direction.

3.6 Building the CVCH SW prototype
4. Preliminary Conclusions
 It could be said that…
 Most of initial needs and inefficiencies alongside CVCH
could be solved just providing visibility.
 Sharing the important data when those happen helps
to anticipate decisions and re-planning operations
with minimal consequences.
 These kind of innovations are making supply chains
smarter by increasing their predictability, transparency
and speed of delivery.
 This solution helps to fine-tune supply chains in real
time.
 It is a perfect complement to the PSPO platform for
achieving end-to-end visibility. 26© APBA

  • 15. Demo GLN Assignment Tool Making use of GLN easy for User Companies Ben van Scherpenzeel, Director Nautical Developments, Policy & Plans , Port of Rotterdam 20th February 2020; Global Forum; Brussels
  • 16. © GS1 2019 Traceability starts with knowing WHERE 16 • GS1 GLN offer unambiguous identification to stakeholders in Value Chains and Transport & Logistics Networks. • ID Keys without access to Linked Data does not add a lot of value • The GS1 User Community NEEDS databases and services that enable access to reliable, trusted, up-to-date information linked to Locations. • Stakeholders (like Port of Rotterdam; PoR) need it sooner rather than later. • Their first priority however is to be able to easily assign GLN to the relevant locations (and link the relevant data to them). • PoR has developed an application that delivers that easy assignment of GLN.
  • 17. © GS1 2019 Screenshots of the Application Home Screen 17
  • 18. © GS1 2019 Screenshots of the Application Create Terminal 18

  • 22. © GS1 2019 Screenshots of the Application Result in Global Part Master Data Platform browser 22
  • 23. © GS1 2019 Why is this IMPORTANT? 23 • GLN databases and service will have common core data elements. • They will also have resources (groups of data elements) that are relevant for (a) specific domain/s • Users in different domains will need data entry applications that are easy for them (targeting data relevant to them) • GLN will often need to be linked to existing industry identifications • PoR Application may be basis for domain specific GLN entry Applications CORE Data Re source 1 Re source 2 Re source 4 Re source 3
  • 24. © GS1 2019 Conclusions - GLN assignment Demo 24 Full hierarchy of locations easily mapped using GLN • GS1 User Community may use approach for any other domain e.g. • (Warehouse) campus, buildings, dock-doors • Inland terminals (Barge or Rail) • Accurate / reliable geographical location information. • Navigational assistants can always “find the right place”. At last we can be sure about WHERE

  • 69. © GS1 2019 PORT Trieste: A Port caught between the sea and rocky mountains. The port and city CANNOT handle the traffic to and from the port • Use Cases focus on planning (ETA/ETD) to drive optimization of processes across the various modes of transport (both sea and land) and the port • Also shifting cargo to Rail Mode of Transport • Container, vehicle, intermodal unit level tracking • Intelligent Transport Systems used in motorways infrastructure to enable tracking and provide better traffic information to enable better ETA. Dry PORT Fürnitz: The clear idea is to support from the logistic HUB in Fürnitz + the Trieste Port in various processes:  Identify the containers by GS1 Standards  Get the real time information where the Container is  Use our different GS1 Messages (EANCOM, XML)  Optimize inbound/outbound processes at the Logistic Centre in Fürnitz  See different technologies (Barcodes and RFID) working together Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g. Link to Austria Pilot • Tracking Containers via Rail towards/from Trieste port • Improving/accelerating customs clearance processes for containers shipped via Trieste port  Container tracking into hinterland (especially the connection with Austria Pilot) EPCIS; GSIN, GINC, GTIN product data may help Customs improvements,  Track & Trace Shipments (linked to Train T&T) EPCIS service operated by GS1 (may need to add FENIX/ConFed connector),  Parking Slot Management (GLN opportunity maybe)  Terminal Slot Booking (GS1 France Tool may ease connecting more carriers electronically => less manual effort)  E-CMR pilot; link to current GS1 eCMR initiative.
  • 70. © GS1 2019 Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g. PORT of Antwerp + hinterland Multimodal inland Hub-Procter & Gamble- Mechelen-Willebroek pilot site across TEN-T corridors • The scope is the transportation by barge and truck of ocean containers loaded with P&G products, between P&G distribution centre and Antwerp Port, for both international import and export purposes. • This pilot develops a centralized data hub to coordinate and visualize the movement of both empty and full containers between Antwerp port, Willebroek barge terminal and Willebroek distribution centre. • The problem is lack of integrated visibility on ocean carrier bookings, empty container depot, container loading, barge capacity planning and sailing details to Antwerp port. • Linked activities such as dangerous goods notifications and customs clearance are negatively impacted by this situation. • This results in multiple manual checks, stand-alone reports, inefficiencies in operation and customs conflicts due to non-synchronized processes. OIA connect • OIA Connect standardizes data sources through modern ETL data transformation. • This process can be further standardised to facilitate more globally / federated architectures. • GS1 GSIN and GINC for container tracking will be put in place
  • 71. © GS1 2019 Maritime and Ports cases within FENIX, e.g. PORTS : Marseille, Fos sur mer, Dunkerque, Lille - Dourges, Eurotunnel site (Calais-Coquelles) • This pilot site is working on the Multi Modal Transport T&L services interoperability on the Mediterranean and the North Sea – Mediterranean TEN-T corridors • They closely work with the French administration on dangerous goods related topics • It will demonstrate intelligent Multi Modal Transport on the Mediterranean and the North Sea – Mediterranean TEN-T corridors. All of these ports are Multimodal (barges, trains, trucks, and ships). • In FENIX, the new FENIX pilot site we will bring it a big step further by deploying interoperability in the North and South of France between the ports of Marseille, Fos-sur-Mer, Dunkerque, Lille, Dourges, Eurotunnel and Strasbourg. • The French Pilot Site will continue integrating of more specifically the MyAeolix connectors, the Data Transformation service and the toolkit for the Cargo Community service called AP+/CI5 which is currently used in most of the ports and make it interoperable with FENIX. • This pilot site will also integrate in the global FENIX architecture, the use cases developed in the SELIS project (https://www.selisproject.eu/About). The French Pilot Site already uses: SSCC for RORO Unit (EAN128) The results of European CORE and French GeoTransMD projects, which have demonstrated the feasibility of the architecture agreed by the UNECE-Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods will be considered. The use of electronic data processing (EDP) or electronic data interchange (EDI) techniques as an aid to or instead of paper documentation is permitted, provided that the procedures used for the capture, storage and processing of electronics data meet the legal requirements as regards the evidential value and availability of data during transport in a manner at least equivalent to that of paper documentation.
  • 72. © GS1 2019 FENIX and so what? 72 • Access to many new User Companies in new Industries / Sectors; opportunities to make them aware of (GS1) standards • Help them implement standards in innovative solutions • Generate Case Studies from implementations • Embed GS1 standards in Federative Infrastructure that will be the foundation of collaboration in Value Chains involving all sorts of stakeholders: Manufacturers, retailers, ports, parts & component suppliers, Logistic Service Clients and Logistic Service Providers • Ensure improvements in Supply Chains that make them more sustainable (planet-friendly), effective and efficient • By improving communication in intermodal transport we are directly or indirectly helping our current user companies
  • 73. © GS1 2019 What are the results we want to achieve? 73 • Embed various GS1 ID Keys in the core of the various Use Cases and Pilots. GLN, SSCC, GTIN, GSIN, GINC • Ensure GS1 standards are included in the core of the Federative Infrastructure (where feasible) cutting across Pilots and Use Cases • Embed EPCIS in a number of Pilot Sites / Use Cases as well as cutting across Pilots and Use Cases • Develop GLN-based services for Pilots/Use Cases; these may be extended to become global GLN service on the GS1 Registry Platform • GS1 to develop a proper standard for the exchange (in near-real time) of planning/future events (Expected, Requested, Planned) next to the EPCIS Actual events
  • 74. © GS1 2019 Where the music plays? 74 • 80% of addresses in transport orders do not match with known addresses in the repository while 95% of designated locations are known. • Specific data on logistics locations are important for ground operations but poorly shared and difficult to maintain • The national scale is not sufficient, the international scale is not ready yet, so working at an intermediate scale (Europe) seems to be the best solution. • We need to realise the needs for standardisation in Maritime and Ports; a lot of opportunities are emerging in this sector GLN registry, EPCIS 2.0, Digital Link, just to name a few – let’s step out of our FMCG comfort zone and go to where a lot of music plays FENIX will take care of first steps in this direction.

  • 84. 4. Preliminary Conclusions  It could be said that…  Most of initial needs and inefficiencies alongside CVCH could be solved just providing visibility.  Sharing the important data when those happen helps to anticipate decisions and re-planning operations with minimal consequences.  These kind of innovations are making supply chains smarter by increasing their predictability, transparency and speed of delivery.  This solution helps to fine-tune supply chains in real time.  It is a perfect complement to the PSPO platform for achieving end-to-end visibility. 26© APBA
