The Capistrano Unified School District has eliminated state mandated core educational programs due to a lack of adequate funding from the State of California and is relying on fundraising and donations to provide art and music for students. Those schools that cannot rise sufficient funds through donations have no art or music programs. Relying on fundraising and donations to provide state mandated minimum curriculum violates the equal protections laws of the United States and California. Presentation to the CUSD Board of Trustees January 27, 2016 to restore district funded visual and performing arts or to declare fiscal insolvency.

Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). Companies are locked in metrics and quantitative measures, data that can fit into a spreadsheet. And by that they see the digital transformation merely as an efficiency tool to the fossil fuel age. The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
14. Future of Charter Schools It is no secret that charters were vigorously fought by the educational establishment for many years, seen as a vehicle for taking money from the old-school publics and "diluting" the school district's mission. As years have gone by, we've seen many charters do extremely well (and some still very poorly), as the model has moved into the mainstream and status quoers' ire has instead been directed at vouchers and similar programs.
15. In many ways, quality charters can serve as incubators for best practice in our school districts. They allow us to strengthen administrative functions and oversights. They allow us to set tough standards and chart the path to reach them. They allow us to innovate, both in terms of instruction and social structures. And they allow us to break the notion that we can't expect more, and we should be satisfied with the status quo. Some say that public schools will eventually take over and there will no longer be charter schools. Others say that charter schools will remain and keep building the standards for the public schools to follow.
16. TEP Charter School There is one charter school that is located in New York City. This charter school offers an excellent salary for their teachers. Salary is $125,000 a year with a chance to earn bonuses. The teachers have to meet rigorous requirements. At this charter school the teachers have several prep and planning times built in to their daily schedules as well as specific times to observe other colleagues. The teachers are granted a one year sabbatical every five years.
