2. Introduction
 The purpose of the report is on reviewing the article, ‘A Multi-agent system for Autonomous
Database Administration and Maintenance (ADAM)’
Problem statement and ADAM functions
Functions
 Autonomously monitoring of the database while broadcasting the error messages linked to space issues.
 Spotting fragmented objects through regular object monitoring or the broadcasted messages by the
system monitor.
 Performing the exercise of defragmentation and updating the data regarding the current database’s
health.
 Outlining status reports through E-mails to the management.
 Analysing the statistics of objects like occupied extends, growth rate and current size and applying past
knowledge to determine when to induce object defragmentation.
 At times when defragmentation has to be applied, the system will schedule and coordinate backups of
this object that has to undergo the defragmentation exercise.
